Leapfrogging to Pole-vaulting

An exhilarating manifesto for the future, this book convinces readers to make the shift from reactive leapfrogging to proactive pole-vaulting through radical transformation. The unique '3-4-7 framework' demonstrates how a paralysing mass of problems can be brought down to a formidable formula, thus making every problem solvable, no matter how big and complex. The book is dotted with inspiring case studies that can instil confidence in people from across the world to put this framework into practice for assured success. Dr Mashelkar and Mr Pandit ably show in this must-read book that-as an interplay of global issues constantly raise the bar for innovation today-there has never been a better time to use our learnings to pole-vault over those bars into a new future!

An Optimistic book that focuses on solutions and not just problems.

This is a very good book for anyone interested in the idea of sustainability, resilience, technology, economics, policy, social challenged and how all these topics are related (and especially relevant and relatable to Indian audience). It talks about how sustainable development and innovation should be done, what conditions it should satisfy and what tools are available to make it happen.

It identifies Environment, Energy and Employment (3Es) as key issues of our time which need to be addressed by any new innovation or product. Seven key characteristics of a good innovation are identified and further, four key tools (so called levers) for making such an innovation (which caters to 3Es) possible. Those four levers are: Policy, Social Engagement, Technology and Economic Model.

Along side the theme mentioned above, the book addresses a variety of other related topics such as

- chicken and egg problem of price and scale
- Technology and job creation/depletion
- Policy as pro-active vs post-active tool
- Role of government (and its limit) in helping a product or innovation that does good with respect to the 3 Es
- Discussion of successful and failed case studies
- Power and ease of social engagement in the connected era and its implications
- How to create leaders for the challenges current and next
- importance of radical innovation and why 10X improvement is the need of the time and not 10% improvement
- Idea of doing well by doing good (as against the idea of doing good after doing well)
.... and many more.
Recommended.
