It's not everyday that I read a romantic suspense book featuring a black woman/white man couple. This was an extremely engaging story, and I really enjoyed reading about Vanessa and Mark. I was a little perturbed that Mark felt the need to mislead Vanessa about his wealth and last name, which unnecessarily fomented her mistrust of him. But, I do understand his reasons. I also felt let down because Vanessa didn't confront Mark directly when given information that made her feel that she had been betrayed, by yet another man for which she had feelings. I didn't feel as though there was enough development of Vanessa's character. More of her background would undoubtedly have enhanced the story. The story did not drag on and on, with extraneous, mundane, and unessential details that are sometimes employed by authors to lengthen a book, while adding nothing substantive to further the plot. Thankfully, Ms. Wilson refrained from doing that. Hence, this book was "cooked" just right!
When Vanessa was kidnapped initially, I put my deductive reasoning abilities to the test and figured out who the mystery; however, that did not lessen my enjoyment of the story. There were a few missed or extra words here and there, but the errors were fairly negligible to me (BRAVO). The story revolved around the couple getting to know each other, Mark's business and the kidnapping.
There was some violence, but it was crucial to the story, and it wasn't gratuitous. The couple's sexual encounters were few (maybe 2) and didn't dominate the story. For those inquiring minds: some dirty talk and steamy sex was involved, but I wouldn't consider it to be erotic in nature.
In sum, while there were red herrings, this was not the most suspenseful read. But I don't care about that. The story was wonderfully told, it held my interest, and I enjoyed the book. I plan to read more of her books-guaranteed.

When it was learned who really kidnapped Vanessa I was totally taken aback! I guess if I had been paying attention while reading their conversations, it would have clued me in to the one who was really harassing and stalking Vanessa. He took advantage of their friendship listening to Vanessa confiding in him and helped her point the finger at one of her online dates gone wrong to mask his devious plans. Once he put his plans in motion he tried throwing Mark the man Vanessa loved and who loved Vanessa under the bus even to convincing the police that Mark had killed Vanessa when she broke up with him all the while he was holding her hostage in his basement thinking the longer be held her captive that she would eventually come to return his love. Mark refused to give up and being a billionaire gave him the resources to accomplish what the police seemingly had no interest in pursuing. Through his persistence, Mark stumbled upon Vanessa being held by the one person no one suspected and after being wounded by Vanessa's assailant managed to get to her and together they were able to contact the police after incapacitating her assailant! This was a very good story that had me on the edge of my seat from the moment Vanessa was kidnapped to Mark' s heroic rescue of her! I truly enjoyed reading this book.
This was the most unbelievable interracial romance that I have ever read. Mark was the billionaire white male who owned a chain of gyms all over the United States. He went from owning one gym to owning 300 in 10 years. Vanessa was the Black female who was a manager of a call center. They both ended up using the same online dating service for different reasons.
Vanessa had 5 unsuccessful dates. The fifth guy, Harold, started stalking her. Mark and Vanessa met for one date after texting and talking to each other. They met and fell in love and immediately started having unprotected sex. The book turned for the worse.
Mark had to go to Denver to handle an emergency. Vanessa had been repeatedly lied to by her ugly, fat white male friend, Harold, to turn her against Mark. She finally called Mark and cursed him out. While Mark was gone, Vanessa was abducted and held in a basement for over a month. Mark and her Mom went to the police and reported her missing. Of course, the police weren't interested in finding a Black female missing in New York. They simply thought Mark had killed her.
The book simply became even more unbelievable. The ending was more unbelievable with a HEA because it was a romance. Read it at your own risk!
This love story is full of suspense, drama, and some action. There is also lies, deceit and most of all betrayal. Vanessa and Mark meet as a coincidence as both of them was on the verge of deleting their profile from a dating site. They met, then things took off from there. Then things turn when Vanessa started getting strange messages from Harold who she had one date with before meeting Mark. Then it of the blue she gets kidnapped, held captive for a while then she finally sees who kidnapped her and it turned her world upside down and made her questioned everything about her life for the last 3 yrs. Mark would stop at nothing to find Vanessa. This is a must read!!!!!
A good story with a lot of suspense. I figured out early on who the real villain was, and it wasn’t much of a surprise. I also think there are teachable moments in this story especially concerning on line dating. My beef with hero is he should have told her who/what he really was. Nothing like jumping into a relationship and not being honest. But then had he done that there wouldn’t have been a story. Mark was perfect for her, and glad they had a happy ending. Wish the ending wasn’t so rushed. I would have liked more backstory after he rescued her, but I’m glad the epilogue tied up all the loose ends.
Loved it. Because of her busy work schedule, Vanessa decided to try online dating, what a mistake.😣😣😣, Mark always dated women that only saw $$$ signs. As luck would have it ,Mark's secretary did an online profile for him and agreed to give it one week, Vanessa was about to delete her profile page when she see a message from fitness-Mark. That's were the story begins, stalking, kidnapping, and attempted murder.
I thought the kidnapping part of the book was insane and a little overdramatic. I like that you can see the main characters fall in love. Their connection when they first met was obvious. The ending was a little bit rushed and the whole traumatic experience affected their relationship.
I gave this book five stars because it was filled with drama, suspense, fantasy love and an incredible ending. I would recommend this unbelievable modern day interracial love story to anyone who wants to escape their everyday boring lifestyle. Kudos
The second read was just as good as the first. Ms. Wilsons story telling as always compelling and intriguing. Her characters come to life and make you root for their HEA.
I loved this story. I couldn't put it down. Read it right through. So glad the heroine was strong and not a whimpering female. Their love was strong and so was she.
