This mix of LesRom and post-apocalyptic fiction was very compelling and I couldn’t put it down.” - Amazon Review, Darkness Falls"… a gripping plot with outstanding characters and beautiful love stories. I really, really hope that this series will continue.” - Amazon Review, Darkness This is a full-length novel, which can be read as a stand-alone book, however, it is closely tied to the previous two stories “Darkness Falls” and “Darkness Remains.” These books have an end-of-the-world theme but are significantly more focused on strong female characters in loving sapphic relationships.

I genuinely loved books 1 and 2 of this series. Book 3 was really hard for me to get through. It felt too long. And by this point, there were already too many characters to be vested in. The addition of more characters left me exhausted trying to keep up.
It was written well. I felt that the story naturally went in a conceivable direction. I did laugh a bit how prevalent insta families are in this series.
The epilogue is twenty years later. That felt jarring for some reason. And we didn't see what happened to some of the characters. So was left feeling it was abrupt and unsatisfying.
Overall, I recommend reading the series. 1 and 2 were really good. And 3, while not as good as the others, provides the ending for closure.
Wow, this was a pageturning conclusion to the Darkness Trilogy and I immediately added this series to my list of books to read over and over again. This trilogy has everything; pandemic chaos, a brutal attack, a family forged by circumstances, sacrifice, adventure, finding love in the darkest of times, a group of women from different walks of life, fantastic characters with heroic traits and so so much more. It was exciting, intriguing and I highly recommend The Darkness Trilogy.
2.5⭐️ This was ok, it’s been months since I read the first two books in this series. I could barely remember the earlier books. I liked the theme of this series but there was very little character development, dialogue or angst.
I admit, I teared up a few times throughout this entire series, and especially at the last part. Luck wrote a wonderfully challenging, angsty, sexy, romantic, nail-biting, series. She created beautiful imagery in my head that I felt like I was right there with the characters. She presented everyone with challenges that furthered the growth of their character, but not so much that it seemed humanly impossible to overcome... well, Taylor I consider the female version of Captain America and her challenges were a bit steeper than the rest ;) Not once did I grow bored because Luck gave us a variety of different scenarios and kept our minds fresh by alternating between each couple. She did a great job at wrapping things up without leaving us to wonder about much. I plan to read the 4th installment which I hope will fill us in on Meg and Grace's journey as a new couple.
5 stars all around for this adventurous and romantic series!
I fell in love with characters of this series in book one of this series and the new characters as the series went on. You had some bad people and you had good people. KC Luck did a beautiful job writing a storyline that showed if you stick together things turn out great. I loved the ending not knowing what happened to everyone was ok. Because we got a beautiful adventure with a happy ending. Thank you KC Luck for a beautiful adventure. I definitely recommend this series.
Too short for how good it was, the post-apocalypse storyline too shallow
Simple as the title. I literally read the whole trilogy in one day, which as far as I'm concerned makes this into a single book with how short the 3 were. I know there are 2 more in the series but considering the epilogue of this one I've a feeling the remaining two will not follow the same full cast. I hope I'm wrong but still. Now, I'd honestly thought to give one star less because of the... I suppose, naiveté would be the best word. The story of all 3 is generally good, the romance is amazing and frankly the sex scenes were Exquisite (capital E intended) and while I understand that it wasn't the focus of the series the apocalypse scenario and experiences felt lacking. The issues resolved often too easily or were unsatisfying in execution, Fate and Destiny were too much deus ex machina at times. Which is sad because honestly I would read a dozen of these in a day if the world were slightly more ... real I suppose.
I'm honestly unsure if I'll go for book 4 tomorrow, if you don't see a review from me on it means I likely didn't. Probably instead I forfeited the sapphic binge I'm currently on to re-read "One Second After" by Fortschen in order to satisfy the post-apo hunger (this specific flavour of it in fact) this series gave me.
If I do read the other 2 currently available books I'll go back to books 1 and 2 for an in depth review, more specifically a pedantic deconstruction of all the things this post apocalypse got wrong or could have done better. And really only that, because the lesbian romance is absolutely f----g amazing and the different flavours of LOVE the Author showed is in just these three short books with a handfull of characters is breathtaking. On that front they're honestly top notch.
Happy because I love the women of this series! They are strong, empowered and loving. Their adventures have been so much fun to follow. From a nurse to a tough as nails ex-army sergeant, they all come together to overcome the darkness. They fall in love and build lives together, while danger lurks in the darkness. If you have read the other two installments, you probably feel the same way I do, I love these stories and wanna have these women as my friends! Now to the sad part. When you find an author that can captivate you and make you feel as if you are living the story with her characters, you will be sad to read “The End”! KC has built a world that scares you at first, but then makes you want to be a part of it. Rebuilding and finding ways to survive, the women in this trilogy draw you into their world, learning and loving with them! I have enjoyed their adventures and I am sad to see their stories end. I wanna celebrate their successes with them and see where life takes them. But KC has to move on to her other projects and leave the ladies of the Darkness trilogy (hopefully not forever) behind. I enjoyed this series and I will reread it several time, I’m sure. Thanks for taking us on this ride, KC!
KC Luck continues “The Darkness Series” with another spellbinding book.
Still without electric and winter coming on, the family and friends of Lexi and Jackie Scott could not be happier. They have survived the international power outage, gas outage, riots, and food shortages. What else could go wrong that would hamper their new life. How about military control of their peaceful town? What about finding a murderer? Or, how about a outbreak of the flu? With no vaccine available will people remember to stay away from others; or cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing; what about washing their hands frequently? Remember, water is cherished. With how well Astoria is doing, will word spread and others come creating a need for more food and housing? Yikes, will they need to blockade the avenues into town or will they just open their hearts and welcome them? So many question that can only be answered by reading “Darkness United (The Darkness Series Book 3). Ps… I wonder what book 4 of the series will bring since the Epilogue is 20 years later?
If you're reading this review, I hope you've read Darkness Falls, and Darkness Remains first! In each book, K.C. has introduced a few new characters. In this one, we begin with Meg and Grace thus leading back to Astoria where Lexi and Anna are preparing for Thanksgiving. They are still without electricity and suspect they won't be getting it back anytime soon. Sweet Sam is worried about running out of needed items and would like to go find out how others are fairing outside of the town. She struggles with leaving Laura behind while Taylor and Jackie continue to do their best to maintain order in the city. Things get complicated when more people hear of Astoria, and benefits to living there. As these brave women face the trials and tribulations of living without the benefits of electricity they pull together to help others and maintain relationships. A must read!
I loved this series, but i'm not sure i enjoyed the 3rd and final installment as much as the others.
I didn't really connect with the new characters, Meg and Grace and i'm not sure if they brought anything extra to the story that couldn't have been achieved with the existing characters from book 1 and 2.
I like that unlike most other survivalist/post apocalyptic books, the storyline went beyond the immediate problem and the ensuing days/weeks afterwards. The author actually allowed us to envisage what long term life could look like. That said the epilogue was a miss for me. It eluded to the future happenings for some characters and not others. I think it either needed to be more involved or not there at all.
Overall, a series i've really enjoyed, with characters that you will want to root for. It's definitely a series which i would choose to reread.
There are three more books in this series, but this is the one that made me say ‘I think I’ve seen enough. No more, please.’
We get another set of lesbians which officially makes for EIGHT POVs ( too many. Too. Many.) our existing couples have a few trials and tribulations that all turn out totally fine, and nobody has to grow or change or reckon with a hard truth.
I have come to my own hard truth that this is simply not the series for me. I want someone to lose a leg, or an eye, or have their house knocked down. I would say this series is like Little House on the Prairie but even there, the dog dies and Mary goes blind. These lesbians are charmed, nothing hard or bad will ever happen to any of them, and if you love that, I love that for you. I don’t need a death or a sad ending, just a realistic level of difficulty.
I enjoyed the Darkness Trilogy books. The story is suspenseful, the characters likable, the premise could happen.
The only reason I did not give this last book 5 stars is that I found the ending a bit rushed. There is no power due to a solar explosion, however, very little is told in the book about how power was restored, how the numerous characters adapted and adjusted.
An epilogue with one of the characters talking to her grandchildren is what gives the reader the idea that they all survived, stayed with their partners and stayed in the town. No update on Grace and Meg, the book ended too abruptly.
Looking forward to this author’s next story. Wish this one would have had a more detailed ending.
WOW! Great Series, can't wait for the next novella (or novel ;-))
KC writes another great novel! I did not think I would enjoy this type of genre. I totally enjoyed this series. I fell in love with the courage, tenacity, love and growth of the characters. There is not a dull moment in Darkness United. I couldn't put it down, not even through the turbulence on my flight! These women and their town pulled together to create a self sufficient town with law and order. They welcomed immigrants from other volatile areas where no food was available. Take this journey with these resourceful women who love fiercely and see where they wind up 20 yrs. later. Thank you for another excellent novel KC!!
I just got the audible version of this book so I finally completed the series. It is a well-written story the relationship between the characters are wonderful as you watch them grow. Buy this book there are lots of characters that are being followed at the same time. Although the newest characters their story to me was a little lacking. Their romance was rushed and they didn't get enough story to really show how they fall for each other and grow. It was a good ending although some of the dangers we're a little lacking. I thought there was going to be a bit more problems with the army base but that part just never really came into fruition. I'll definitely be reading the entire series again it'll be on my once-a-year list.
As the three couples try and survive and make a city for all the towns people to enjoy, things just get harder by the day. When the flu comes to town when people are coming from other city to live there because of the community was coming together to help everyone survive. The army sent a Major to see how things are going in the town but the Major was relieved to to see that law and order was thriving because of her friend Taylor when they where in the army together. Sam and Laura went to go exploring other city to fine things are not better but worse. When they see the army and are taken back to the town the army puts things in order and get things back in well working order over time.
What another excellent book. Each book in this series had me enthralled from the first page. The carry-over of characters from book to book made each one more intriguing to read. The addition of new and exciting characters, although not diminishing the importance of the others, made me want to read on and on. Now that I've started the final book in the series I'm excited to see what happens to all the characters on their journey forward. I'm also disappointed that this is the final book. KC has the ability to capture your heart with each book and leave you wishing for more when the book has ended. Kudos KC for another great book, and thank you for sharing your talent for us to enjoy.
I waited till this book came out to read this series and it was definitely worth it!!! This is a story to read and I totally loved it. There is so much that was great to read about. The characters had depth and so loving. The second chance Lexi and Anna got was wonderful. At a time when things were scary the characters stuck together to get things done. I loved the series so much I recommend it to one of my Aunts, we tend to like the same kind of books, well non lesfic ones but I think this series can be read by anyone. It has so much in it. So I would recommend reading this series and this book, but start at Darkness Falls. Enjoy!
I struggled to write this review only because it meant the story had come to an end and I totally fell in love with these characters. KC took me on an amazing journey of what could happen if everything around you stopped working and you had to use that land to survive, and on top of it all she threw in heartfelt love stories between strong women am took us on an amazing journey within the end of the world as we knew it. The character development was spot on throughout the series and the storyline got better with each book and as it came to the end I was sad to part ways with each and every one of these wonderful characters
A very satisfying end to Anna & Lexi and Taylor & Jackie's story. The four of them, with Alice, traveled through Washington state to arrive in Astoria. Which, was the oldest city on the West Coast. The story continues with people hearing about the safety and provision in Astoria and with new people there is tension and fear. KC Luck weaves the story through overcrowding, a health crisis, panic at the fear of outsiders, and it's a beautiful story. Read this story and the first two books in the series and be amazed with great storytelling.
Content warnings: a few, brief sex scenes, rare use of profanity, and some mild violence. In addition to the six main characters from Darkness Remains, two more characters join the cast: Grace and Meg. I love stories that alternate focusing on multiple characters. If you haven’t read Darkness Falls & Darkness Remains yet, I highly recommend reading them both before reading this book. I’m very much looking forward to reading any spin-offs or prequels to this series. KC Luck is an amazing author.
Awersome story and read.Out Characters continue to improvise as they continue to encourage th e town to work together and it's working, but other people are arriving setting up tents and suddenly a flu epidemic starts. The mayor wants to get rid of them and set up borders. There is more.murder, angerr,,friustration, love a!nd more. Author KC Luck did an Awersome job writing this. Looking forward to more by her Recommend Definitely. A Awesome Trilogy ending.
Shinning a Christmas miracle during Apocalypse times is a perfect glimpse to this story.
Darkness United Book 3 by K C Luck This is the third book an the story of Laura & Sam and a new couple Meh and Grace. It also carries through the rest of the family! SAPPHIC BOOK BINGO: favorite trope, disaster, full-time writer, established couple, out of your comfort zone, meet-cute, unusual job, different sexual orientation, butch character UNICORN: more than 2 POVs (Possibly more categories)
It you like strong women in all types of leadership roles, this is the book for you! I read the two previous books, and that would be helpful while trying to keep track of all of the characters. I thoroughly enjoy this series, and I think that others will as was well.
What can you say about these books by this talented author. I thought she couldn't get any better after the first book, then came the excitement of the 2nd...only to be surpased with this 3rd book...Again the characters that followed the first 2 books into the third were exciting only to add new characters in this 3rd book that makes you become part of the story or least with me it did..Looking forward to more books
Amazing. The entire trilogy was a ‘cant put it down read’. Exciting, impassioned, thoughtful. I was concerned that the introduction of new characters throughout would risk the readability of the story as the characters would not be able to be developed enough to keep my interest but the author was amazing and even Grace and Meg’s story in United was perfect and I feel at home with them and was Willing them the best for the future. I will be reading more of the author’s work for sure.
