Into the Tempest: Essays on the New Global Capitalism

Rate this book
In this critical new work, sociologist William I. Robinson offers an engaging and accessible introduction to his theory of global capitalism. He applies this theory to a wide range of contemporary topics, among them, globalization, the trans- national capitalist class, immigrant justice, educational reform, labor and anti-racist struggles, policing, Trumpism, the resurgence of a neo-fascist right, and the rise of a global police state. Sure to spark debate, this is a timely contribution to a renewal of critical social science and Marxist theory for the new century.

William I. Robinson’s many award-winning books Global Capitalism and the Crisis of Humanity (2014), Latin America and Global Capitalism (2008), and A Theory of Global Capitalism (2004).

A great introduction to the current state of global capitalism. Robinson includes an examination of how imperialism has transformed through global capitalism and challenges the imperialism theories of Lenin as well as the "New Imperialism" theories. Into the Tempest also includes essays regarding how global capitalism has affected migrant workers, education, and the creation of a global police state. Robinson creates powerful arguments about global capitalism and the crises that it has created and gives insights on what can change and the need for a different perspective on global capitalism and the new imperialism that has came from it.

A simple case of intentional ignorance. Because if it wasn't a "new" thing, why would anybody need to hire Robinson to read bird entrails and tell the future?

Important and often brilliant thinker, but fails in its goal to be more accessible to an audience not already familiar with the field.

The worst book on economy ever. The amount of bias and lack of knowledge is unprecidented. What a shamefull and idiotic act of literary suicide.
