At the age of 20, Brandon Grimm was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the pituitary gland. The ensuing surgery removed a large portion of the tumor; however, residual tumor was located a few months later. After recovering from the surgery, Brandon was diagnosed with the rare and chronic disease, Acromegaly. This disease causes too much growth hormone to be produced in Brandon's body which reduces life expectancy by several years if left untreated. Over the last 14 years, Brandon has received over 4,000 injections to reduce the level of growth hormone and restore life expectancy back to normal range. This book documents his experiences, including battles with anxiety, fear, doubt & hopelessness. Brandon provides a first-hand account of how God provides all of us with the tools needed to overcome these relentless enemies. In this book, you will unlock the life-saving power of perspective regardless of your current circumstances and learn how to find freedom in fear, belief in doubt and light in the darkness. Brandon also provides practical applications for unleashing the power of a new perspective by doing instead of having, focusing on how well instead of how long and what it means to sacrifice for the benefit of others.
Thank you so much Brandon for sending me a copy of your book!
Brandon Grimm was diagnosed with a disease called Acromegaly, which resulted in a brain tumor in the pituitary gland. After removing most, but not all of the tumor in surgery, Brandon has to take injections every day to combat tumor growth. Through his experience, Brandon had gained tools that have helped him move forward with his life, focusing on the power of perspective.
Let me start of by saying, everyone should read this book. It doesn’t matter if you are spiritual, believe in God, or not. There are eye opening lessons for everyone, regardless of your beliefs. These lessons can and should be applied to your own life.
I normally don’t like writing in books but this is one where I brought out my highlighter and marked several lines. While reading this book, I felt prompted to self-reflect and think about areas where I can improve, as well as acknowledge my strengths. Through Brandon’s experience, we can see that even in the most difficult situations, your attitude can change very much depending on your perspective. You are in charge of your life, even with the challenges you may face, we can make it out stronger than before. 💪🏼 I loved reading about Brandon’s story and seeing how he was able to make the most out of a life changing situation. Thank you again Brandon for your inspiring book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you think your life sucks, try walking in someone else's shoes.
Not only does Grimm tell of what he went through, he explains the aftermath. What I love most about this book is that the point of it is to not give up, and to make moments matter. I think this would be an amazing book for Christian youth leaders to share with teens. It could give young people that perspective that yes, bad things happen, but God is always able. This is an inspiring story that makes you appreciate life, understanding that it is indeed a gift. Don't waste it.
Positive, encouraging and uplifting! As a young man, Brandon discovered an ominous diagnosis that would have devastated many. And while he did experience doubts, fears and distress, he never lost hope or faith. By God’s grace, he was able to not only endure, but thrive in his dire circumstances. I admire Brandon for writing this book, for his desire to encourage those who might be going through the dark times he experienced first hand. I highly recommend this for all people to read.
From the moment I started the introduction I felt myself getting pulled in. Brandon writes with an ability to link his own experience and compare it to not only many of our own human struggles but also link it to historical and biblical references. Then he ties up each example in a wonderful bow with your name on it as a call to action. He lures your empathetic side in as he shares his story about his medical experiences and as you continue to read, anticipating and hoping for the great news of a clear diagnosis for him- he switches it up and hits you on how to look at things in a new way when you're walking through the valleys in YOUR life. This was a dynamic book, a great read that I read the majority of in 2 sittings. It's an inspirational story and offers great information, insights, ideas and, lastly, interest in hearing more from Brandon in the future.
Not only Brandon's personal journey... but the way the book read, was a journey in itself. Reading the book, felt like I was actually having a conversation with the author. Without giving away any spoilers or quotes from the book, I will just say that several times throughout the book, I found myself applying his message to my own life and past situations.
You don't have to experience what the author did to appreciate the underlying message throughout the book. There is a lot of content and take-a-ways packed into 100 pages, just the way I like it. The journey consists of family, spirituality, health, overcoming obstacles, every day life and more. I'm sure you "can" take away at least one thing from this read. It's worth your time.
I kept this one on my TBR list for a while, then got to it while bored on an airplane. It’s brief, taking roughly 1 hr to get through, and Jerked tears from me.
I now must force my husband to read it and am recommending it to my family. It’s written simply, candidly, like Brandon is sitting down and sharing his story with you. So many good nuggets to highlight, and everyone needs to read this.
EVERYONE must read this book. It needs to be part of a curriculum somewhere.
Brandon’s story might change your life in roughly 1 hour. Truly, he was given this trial to teach us an invaluable lesson.
I cannot applaud or recommend this book more highly... Do yourself a favor and read it.
This book has helped me in two major ways. 1. Helping me put things into perspective and looking at life maybe through a different lens. 2. That I am not alone in my acromegaly journey and there are others out there (few in numbers) who are experiencing like hardships but are getting through it. Love the Acromegaly community that this author has brought me into!
AS I WALK is an inspirational telling of Brandon Grimm's personal experience with a brain tumour diagnosis and living with Acromegaly. Despite the heavy topic, the writing is honest, uplifting and even humorous at times, focusing on how a shift in perspective, staying positive and holding onto faith can get you through difficult times. I recommend this book not only for people struggling with an illness, but also for anyone who is feeling helpless and hopeless in their current predicament in life.
