So I finished this in one afternoon which is usually a great sign but with this not really.
It's still a stunning book cover, but just so much thinner than the last ones. My first reaction was honestly: well if it only took this many pages to finish the story, couldn't it have been a slightly thicker duology?
The book also feels like nothing happens and like the plot is rushed all in one. None of the characters get any further development really, it's just a sequence of weird dream-like actions, which is ironic given that I actually enjoyed the dreams. The only character who has a slight change of heart is Mel, which I loved but also wished had just been explored a little deeper.
My favourite from last book, Gull, barely even gets any mentions and when she does, everything is so messed up, it's not even satisfying.
Even the whole Longsight/Sana/Minnow thing was so ridiculous and predictable, I couldn't enjoy it. Basically the only reason I read through it so quickly was in hopes of finding any kind of surprise or even spotting any reason for me to be reading this book, which I did not. Truly disappointing although bonus points for Obel and Leora actually having one book where she doesn't just go back to being manipulated by everyone for 90% of the story.

I’ve waited SO LONG for this book. And my god it did not disappoint. There are scenes of GENUINE shock. I cried at the end. I hated Longsight SO MUCH. This book rounds off the trilogy so well and I’m so proud of how far Leora came. There’s SO MUCH about this story I can’t wait to shout about.

3.5 stars (goodreads, when will you finally give us half stars? WHEN?!)

"I told the girl that I loved my scars. And I do. My scars tell my story more clearly than any ink."

Scar is the final book in this trilogy, and before I get into my review I once again have to point out how absolutely stunning those covers are. I'm so in love!!
Scar was a good conclusion to the trilogy. It is a rather short book, but that's ok, because this way, it's not trying to be something it isn't. This trilogy is a little gem, and while I didn't love it with all my heart, I'd still recommend it.

The final book ties up all the lose ends and brings answers. We are reunited with all the characters we know. Leora's journey is coming to an end, but not without giving her a hard time in this final novel. She's trying to find her way, she's being deceived and mocked, and still, she stands up again. She's a strong character in her very own way.

The other characters were a bit flat. I liked Mel, but I wish there was more of the other characters we know from the previous books. Longsight was creepy to put it that way, but this aspect of the book showed very well how worship works, and how someone rises to a people's savior in a very short amount of time. It's scary.

The story is again told from Leora's POV in the past tense and there are again little stories, tales and also a lot of dreams set into it. The writing is fluent and beautiful. But I don't know, I was missing something. The first half of the book wasn't bad, but not super interesting either. Towards the end, it picks up, with a totally unexpected climax. The ending was simply beautiful.

Scar is a solid conclusion to a truly unique little dystopian trilogy - but not just any dystopia, but one mixed with tales and religion and beliefs, a dystopia built on an entire culture the author came up with. And I love that aspect about these books.
Definitely check them out if you're a bit tired of the typical ya dystopia, but still want to stay within that genre, because they're more than a dystopia, they're almost little life lessons :)

I didnt feel like this added or took anything away from the initial two books.
We see Leora figuring out how to use her abilities to the best of her ability while being captured and having to take sides.

The worst book of the trilogy, the story just rushes from one event to the next without. Everything is so abrupt that you can’t even get excited because the moment it gets thrilling the chapter ends and another random thing happens or the story just somehow stops and you wait for something to happen again. and the last 30 pages seem like the author just realised she only has a couple of pages left to finish the story, so she just squeezes the end in there without it making any sense at all, without explaining why everything happens this way and what happens to the antagonising characters who just vanish for no reason at all. You just keep expecting the main character to do something to make peace between the two people but she literally just runs around doing nothing really, helping no one. The mark of the two sisters seems to be appearing everywhere but no one tells the people about it, no one tries to convince anyone that they should make peace. Nothing. All of a sudden everything is just well, everyone is friends again and everything that happened is forgotten. I would have given it two stars for effort in the first half of the book, but the ending is so frustrating that it doesn’t even deserve one star.

What an anticlimax. No one learned anything, no one grew as a character until the ridiculously sanitised epilogue. The whole thing was wrapped up in exposition and even the stories weren’t up to the same standard as the first two books. Disappointing :(

Great setup, disappointing execution.

Ink was alluring but left something to be desired. Spark was brilliant and left me itching to read the third book... And Scar? To be honest, it's a bit of a disappointment.

This one starts out strong, picking up from the moment where we left Leora in book two. How in the hell is Longsight alive? What will happen to Sana's plans to wage war with the marked, now that their leader is back? These are the questions that spearhead the story.

There is room for a lot of tension, action and suspense... but instead, there is not much plot at all.

The question of how the blanks versus marked conflict will play out - which side will prevail, who will be left at the end - is what kept me reading to the end. There is some interesting political scheming, but other than that there is really not much going on in the story. I didn't expect all out war or anything big and bloody, but the sense of threat could have been amplified. There is not much character development either. However, what little growth there is in some characters is realistic and that's one of the strong points of this series as a whole.

On a prose level, the writing remains strong, the descriptions visceral and concise as ever. Because I enjoy spending time in this fictional world, I did enjoy Scar enough to give it three stars, but the plot could have been improved upon to make the character arcs clearer and more satisfying. I'm not sure whether this is the ending I wanted for the series.

With that said, the Ink trilogy is one that has made a mark on my heart if not my skin, and I am interested to see what Alice Broadway comes up with next - assuming, and hoping, this is not her last book.

I am in love with this book!
If you have not read this one just yet then please I am begging you to!! Please read this book if you haven’t you are seriously missing out on a great action-packed read.
To put this book into one word it would be, amazing. Or maybe, Action-packed. One of those but I just loved this book with all my heart!

SPOILER ALERT! Please stop reading is you have not read this one just yet.

Okay seriously Mayor Longsights revival what actually happened was what I thought when I heard he was alive using something like a armoured cloak I was not surprised. One thing I will say though is that I was kinda surprised to hear that he was using something sort of degradable ink for his oh so apparently miracles.
I did not like Jack Minnow like at all, he was the worst!
Whilst I did not like Longsight I could deal with him more than Jack freaking Minnow.

Leora:
She was again extremely great in this one her flaws were great and just her overall character. Like she was not those annoying characters that I hate. She was just so much better than I expected for a main character.

Oscar:
Although he was barely in this one he was still great. I mean it is definitely apparent that he loves Leora surely I mean especially the ending I mean come on! Gotta be in love. I mean I think that Leora also loves him.

Obel and Connor:
They were barely in this one but I mean they were still in there some pages count. They were great. I really liked how they were let out of prison after saving Leora from being flayed alive.

Verity and Gull:
Just I did not like either of them at all in this one even though it was such a short time. Gull getting marks was just have no words to express my anger in words especially when Leora literally saved her life from drowning. Verity can just no words literally hated her in this one I mean just her coming in with marked Gull and saying Leora was not a good friend just like I despise her.

The main Blanks:
Sure they were alright but not in it all that much like they were in it for a very short time really they were good but you know you know.

Sana:
Hate overload. Like just starving the blanks was just not okay at all. Seriously. Not cool. I get it fuking hate the blanks. But seriously just be nice come together I mean just seriously please do that.

I liked how Poppy’s baby had a mark of the sisters coming together. Just like the mark Leora had before she was in the fire in the museum.
Love this book so sorry about spoilers but you know warned you but maybe you’re someone who doesn’t mind spoilers.

Per me è un grande grandissimo no.
Insomma, male malissimo.

I loved the first book immensely, I thought it was unique and had beautiful imagery. The world was well built and asked some interesting questions. The main character seemed like a normal, relatable protagonist. The second book fell hard into some YA tropes that it had avoided in the first book which disappointed me but aside from that it was a solid book. This book went full force into how she was special and she was the hero who had to save the day. the pacing was off, it jumped from scene to scene with no breathing room. The ending was rushed, the last 3% wrapping everything up very quickly and made it feel unrealistic and jarring. None of the characters seemed to act rationally and they all seemed paper thin. Half the story was flowery text of old stories or dreams and was very heavy handed in it's imagery. A very disappointing end to a series I had really liked. If the first book had been written and paced like this one, with this many tropes I wouldn't have finished it.

Uh no 2/5.

I really did enjoy this series, but I have a few problems with the last book. The whole series is a slow burn, which is a trait I like in books. What I enjoyed was the world building of both the communities of Saintstone, and Featherstone. However, I must admit to being dissatisfied with the ending. I kept waiting for Leora to rise up, respond, do something, anything! to fight back. It's more like, instead of Leora actively engaging in her own story, things just happened to her. And that left me disappointed.

description

When your body is 'Ink'ed, presence of 'Spark' is not always welcomed until the same is turned against your will into a unforgivable and unforgettable 'SCAR'

Story :

What if you can't have any secrets in your life...
What if whatever you do will be openly given out to public without filters...
That's what this book is about...

Ink is the story about this dystopian world where all your actions right from your birth till death is Inked on your body. Right hand is inked with your achievements, back is inked with your family tree etc etc...
The person who doesn't have any ink on them is called as Blanks..
Upon death, your soul is weighted for deeds and sins and decision is made to preserve your book which is basically made of your own skin which tells your complete life story on its pages. If the decision is made otherwise, you will be regarded as Forgotten and your book is burned...

The concept of this book is ultra cool that I literally gasped when I read the synopsis..
But somehow the writing doesn't appeal to me much and character development felt bleak...
I didn't love any character or hate any one of them so, evidently capacity of writing to connect the reader is missing...

Also the plot is super duper predictable..

Characters :

Leora, our protagonist is a frail girl who believes in the story of Saintstone in first book and the one who sobs and mourns over the burned book of her dead father..
She had quite a development when she is sent into Featherstone in book two and her attempt to forge bonds with her supposedly kin acquaint with a marvellous characters named Gull and Fenn who are the children of Tanya and Soloman..

I don't know but I liked Sana for some reason.. I imagined her perfect beauty riding atop of a steed viciously..

As far the ending goes, Gull is given zero limelight and so does other expected characters..
Only character which gets a deserved limelight is Mel, the storyteller..

Obel... Well... Moderate design..

World Building :

The rivalry between their own world of Saintstone and Featherstone is quite good..

Author did a fair job or maintaining the uniqueness of both places..

Saintstone, devoted and obeying whereas Featherstone, understanding and affectionate..
The rules which governs the laws of the world is not deterred and absence of overpowered main character is a plus..

The inking and rememberence system is well thought by the author and executed also maintaining the similarity of customs among Saintstone and Featherstone subtlety...

Overall :

Overall, this book might appeal good for an entry level readers..

First book will certainly make you feel that this series is better to DNF but the pace picks up in second and third book, ending with a decent conclusion..

Bonus points for GORGEOUS covers of these books... It's just awesome..
