You know how there are books that stay with you and those you won't be able to remember a year from now? This falls in the latter category. I only finished this smart, well-written thriller a few weeks ago, and I'm having a hard time remembering the plot. If not for the cover of the book, I would have forgotten entirely that the patient, Alicia, chooses not to speak in her defense after a man is found dead in her home. So: a mystery that keeps you guessing and wondering. But: I skimmed the last 80 pages because I wanted it to be over already. And: not juicy enough for me to remember it a year from now.

This was a re-read of this book for me, this time via the audio version, and I liked it a lot more. I had forgotten the twist ending and enjoyed it. I also appreciated the writing more. One star off for thoroughly unpleasant characters (but for a couple of subsidiary and clueless therapist characters) and the fact that the human relationships depicted are uniformly awful.

A British psychotherapist believes he is the only clinician who can reach and treat the convicted murderer, Alicia, who is believed to have shot her husband in the face and then went completely silent. Will his unorthodox methods help her or condemn her to an endless suspicion and miscarriage of justice? Be prepared for sudden twists in the story.

This is a Judy and Richard read and I usually enjoy their books. This book did not disappoint. I did find the initial moving from past to present disconcerting but I soon got into it and read the whole book in a day. This was a real page turner and the ending was very unexpected. I have to give it five stars.

You know I didn’t think I would find a book that had me as shook as Verity did, but I was wrong The Silent Patient literally made me throw the book across the room from how shocking the plot twist was. This is by far one of my favorite books of all time maybe even my new favorite.

A psychological thriller with an ending you won’t see coming. Michaelides' writing keeps you hooked from the first page, and the plot twists will have you questioning everything as the tension builds toward the finale.

Sort of figure out the antagonist towards the end of the book. The suspence in the plot give some thrilling moment.

Oh my, I think I have to reread this. But then I’m done with psychological thrillers for a while.
