Severed State

Rate this book
A midnight visit to a cemetery turns violent as Simon Ambros encounters gunmen forcing a woman to dig her own grave.

Once he saves her, he joins her on a quest for answers… a quest that takes them from a graveyard in Dallas to the FBI offices in Washington DC to the deserts of the Texas Panhandle. As Simon deals with money laundering, murder, and a potential terrorist attack, he also has to deal with memories that keep coming up. And he has a lot of memories, because Simon Ambros is immortal. Every answer they find leads to two more questions. Unsure who to trust, or how far the conspiracy goes, Simon finds himself in a struggle with opponents on all sides.

He doesn’t know what he’s up against, but he does know that the enemies’ plan must be stopped, and the conspiracy must be uncovered. But even a man who lives forever can find himself running out of time. Can Simon learn from past mistakes, and save the girl… save the day… save the country?

Severed State is the thrilling new novel from an exciting new author.

Come, my children. Gather around the fire as I tell you the tale of MJ Allen.

If the legends are to be believed, MJ first appeared in northern New Mexico, shrouded in mystery and tumbleweeds -- not unlike the Sandia Mountains themselves. As is often the case with larger-than-life characters, the early years of MJ's life are only known through careful study of apocryphal texts, folksy yet charming anecdotes, and the occasional epic poem.

To those who know where to look, the ancient sagas reveal hints of a lengthy pilgrimage to Texas, a voyage of self-discovery to Colorado, and a triumphant return to the sacred vistas and green chile of New Mexico. It is possible, as some of the Old Ones and their fortune cookies suggest, that MJ's reappearance in the Land of Enchantment was in fulfillment of a mystic prophecy.

Our attorneys have instructed us to state that it is also possible it had absolutely nothing to do with any kind of prophecy, limerick, or haiku -- but we don't have to dwell on that right now.

The point is that MJ Allen is a part of New Mexico, wearing a wide variety of hats:
1. Novelist/writer/editor/proofreader hat
2. Singer/songwriter hat
3. Musician/composer/producer/arranger hat
4. Voiceover/actor/speaker hat
5. Humorist/punster/comedy writer hat
6. Fedora/sombrero/top hat/war helmet hat

And now, my children, it is time for the tale of MJ Allen to pause as we await the next chapter. Plus, I think it might just be time for my nap.
