I'm on the ground, again. I have been punched and slammed by someone far bigger and tougher than me.
I can hear the snorts and laughter; I'm the only girl on the training squad. "This is why someone like you should never be allowed to fight side by side with war brothers."
Still, I get up. Not complaining. This is the life I chose.
So when a stranger challenges me to a duel two minutes later, I don't hesitate to take him up and agree to his terms that I will do something for him if I lose.
Then it all went black.
I wake up in a cell and realize with terror that I'm probably in werewolf territory, high up in the mountains.
Two hours later, I'm presented to both, the prince's step-cousin and the prince himself.
"You are lucky, you have been chosen to be our new human concubine. A rare opportunity, given only to the most worthy of women."
You've got to be kidding me?! This was NOT what I meant by a favor!!!
"Have you bred before?"
WHAT?!
"What about sharing? Two, three men, perhaps?"
EXCUSE ME?!
"Tomorrow will be your first training."
Next thing I know, I have a royal collar attached to my neck, to denote I belong to them.
"You either walk on your feet or you will be dragged," says the prince.
He can't be serious. I'm gonna kill them both.
Branded By The Black Wolves is a full-length novel with a HEA. Adult's only!
Born and raised near Pacific Grove in California, where only about 15000 souls live, Hollie found her passion in writing since she was just nine. She would write odd short stories about fantastic beings or plays she would enact with her friends, where she was always captured by some sort of beast. In these stories, there was no Prince Charming, only dragons and werewolves that were both scary and fascinating.
As she grew older she dwelled into more adult topics. She learned about the fun and fire of steamy romance novels, where the peculiar traits of her favorite characters made them dangerously alluring, physically and psychologically. Today these characters are like people inside her head. They that won't leave her alone until she gives them life. And even though she is the only one writing, Fifty* is always there to assist with inspiration.
*Mom's girl. Probably the brattiest chihuahua ever.
I feel like I should be blind at this point. Yup, definitely blind.
Branded By The Black Wolves was pretty much awful from start to finish. I wanted to like it.. but yeah, it wouldn't happen. Again, I wish I was blind at this point. Besides not wanting to see for the rest of my life, this book was beyond boring. I think watching paint dry would be more fascinating.
Other than wanting to die while reading this book.. I connected with nothing and no one. When I wasn't wishing that the page I was on would be the very last one.. I was probably zoning in and out of this book. Maybe even wishing for traffic on my way home so that it would give me my much needed space from this book.
Overall, I want to block this from my memory. Permanently.
I liked the storyline overall and the relationship among Lily, Ryker, and Belthar. It was cool seeing Lily train and become a badass warrior and I liked that the wolves valued women and had no problems with them as fighters. I would've liked more about the werewolf culture and if you have to be born one or can be turned. There wasn't quite as much smut as I would've thought and the ending was fairly open. I'd read a second book.
Branded By The Black Wolf by Hollie Hutchins Lilly is taken to by Ryder to be a concubine to his cousin the prince. She is kept under lock and key in her room. Both men want Lily but her heart belongs to one. They decide to train and enter her into the tournament. Lilly proves to be a very good fighter. I fell in love with the story. Hollie Hutchins is amazing with her stories. Love the way she weaves this story together with steamy sex, a kidnapping, demons, wolf shifters, humans, and a young girl coming into her own. I highly recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Let me first start out by saying that if you are thinking this book is going to be a menage because of that synopsis you are sorely mistaken. I was hoping that this book would be just that after reading that synopsis and it was barely that at all.
And secondly, this was entirely too boring for my taste. I liked the MC well enough because she was a take no shit kind of gal. But the story was just too boring. And the ending? Seriously anticlimatic. So this was just a meh read for me.
This is the first book I have read by Hutchins and I am sure it will not be my last. This book has several stories within it, including attack by demons, kidnapping of Lilly, training her to fight for the Obsidian Heart and the sexual interaction between Ryker, Lilly and Balthen. This is a good read, full of action at a fast pace. I would recommend it as a great read.
I enjoyed the story even if it was a little bit lengthy at time I couldn't help but skim through some parts but all in all I will give her 5 stars for effort it takes to create a full story. Short run down the leading lady is training to be a soldier but the men aren't having it they do everything in their power to break her. One day she is challenged by a stranger who makes her a bet if he wins she owes him a favor vice versa, but he wins in the end and he also ends up kidnapping her. She wakes up and finds herself deep in wolf territory the wolves and humans were allies long long time ago until after they battled demons and supposedly the humans sacrificed many wolves with dark magic to banish the demons. But now Lilly has found herself standing before the Prince of the wolves and his cousin Ryker the one who kidnapped her. The Prince tells her she is now his and she will be his concubine and fight for him in the upcoming tournament for the Black obsidian heart because he fears the competitors goal is to win it and use it with dark magic. Turns out the competitor is the Prince's ex lover who left him because he cheated on her. During her stay Lilly becomes very close to Ryker and eventually falls in love with him and when it comes time for his cousin to claim Lilly and her virginity they find a way to make it work by convincing the Prince to share her with Ryker. The Prince eventually catches on to their relationship and agrees to mutually share Lilly at all times. During Lilly's training she meets her competitor Evalar (I think that's how it was spelled) and they end up becoming friends..during her time training a town was attacked and they come to find out it was demons. Rather then believe the truth the king makes it out like it was rogue humans dressed as demons. However during the competition another attack happens and when Lilly wins Evalar begs her to bring her the obsidian heart so that she can save everyone from the demons. After they take a chance and she proves to Lilly the Prince and Ryker that the demons are real and she can help without anyone dying the Prince agrees to talk to his parents. But the king isn't giving up on his past grudges so he sentences Evalar to death and Lilly to hard labor..but during the sentencing the wolves come under attack by demons and the Prince and Ryker rush to grab the heart and get it to Evalar who defeats the demons. The book ends with Ryker and Lilly laying in the Prince's bed and the Prince and Evalar are on the fur rug on the floor after lots of "celebrating" their victory. So they end up agreeing that it's all good to share one another well aside from the men sharing women that was a no no for Lilly she wasn't sharing Ryker but the girls were all good with playing with each other.. sooo weird LoL anyways that's it that's the whole story it was okay but if that's not your sort of thing I wouldn't recommend it
I received this book through Booksprout as a free copy to read and I would like to give a review of what I read.
First let me say “Oh, My Goodness” Hollie is a fantastic story teller. In my opinion there are a lot of people that can write books but a few special people are gifted to tell stories. The prologue tell how the Werewolf’s and Humans even though they had their separate territory’s the had not only a peace treaty between each other but also trade. Soon over the horizon a new enemy come to light the “Demons”. This is such a great story I honestly could not stop reading it once I started because I just had to know what happens next. I love a story where n only the main character grows and matures but also the people that are around her start to change into better people than the were at the beginning of the story. I wasn’t really sure how the prologue actually fit into this fit into the story as I started read the book, but it will all come together at a point and will bring understanding. Lilly is human lives alone with her mother in a small town called Moldy Edge that was close to the to the what was once the great town called Albrinth. The whole are was pretty much destroyed in the great war but It still had the castle there but half of it had been demolished the rest stood strong and healthy. It was in the court yard where they practice and trained to become one of the king’s guard. Lilly was the only girl in the group of trainees but she knew that if she made the Kings Guard and their lives would be so much easier. Unfortunately she was the only girl to be trainee and was looked down upon. The other guys would beat her in hand to hand combat and didn’t pull back on their pouches. They would knock her down but she would just keep getting up. The instructor hated her the most being there. Instead of noticing the others knocking her down out of formation he would always verbally attack her. Then one day she notice a hooded stranger stating a ways off with the other spectators. This day they were let go early to come back after nightfall to train again. As she was packing up when the hooded stranger came up to asking her questions and eventually asking her to a duel. If he won she owed him a favor, if she won he owed her a favor. Of course he won and before she knew it there was a rag over her face, and her life is forever changed. Lilly is such a strong character where as she is a fighter in every since of the word. She is also passionate and caring but that doesn’t come out at first after she finds out why she was brought into Werewolf territory. And what is this about this stone of called the Obsidian. Why is it so important to Ryker the werewolf that kidnapped her and Prince Balthen who want her to train and fight in once in a century tournament to win the thing.
May contain minor spoilers, so beware of that before reading my review.
For some reason I was under the impression that this book was to be a reverse harem story. Can't tell you why I thought that though. But it wasn't. Okay, that's fine. At the same time I'm thinking it's a menage story. I mean, just look at the cover. While there were menage sex scenes, it wasn't really a menage either. At least not in terms of the woman falling in love with both men, because Lilly really only wanted to be with Ryker. And although I was kind of disappointed with that, I really never warmed up to Balthen at all.
I did like Lilly's spirit, her determination to prove she could be just as good, if not better, a warrior than the men. I found the fight training and the competition part interesting too.
Now, as much as I like the cover art, I think it and the title do not go with the story. There was no "branding" happening in the book, by way of a tattoo of anything else.
Also, I would have loved to have seen Lilly go back home for a visit to see her mom and to show all those men she was training with, at the beginning of the book, that she was now more than capable of kicking their asses.
Overall the writing was okay. Kind of a hit and miss thing going on. And as much as I usually love epilogues, the one in this was frankly uninteresting.
EDIT: I remembered, after saving my review, that the book is, in part, about werewolves. But there is rarely ever any shifting going on in the book. And that annoys me a bit. I mean, what's the point of writing a shifter story if there is rarely any shifting.
Also, there was no protection used in any of the sex scenes so why didn't Lilly end up pregnant? What about the theory that she might have some wolf in her bloodline? Who is her father? Where is he? The story could definitely stand to be fleshed out a little more.
First, I'd like to say this book is well written. The dialog flows well and there are none of the glaring grammatical issues you sometimes find with Kindle Unlimited's free books.
I overall enjoyed this book which, by the way, has a rather misleading title and cover. The ending seemed a bit rushed but that didn't really take away from it as a whole for me. I did, however, have one glaring issue that distracted me from enjoying the book: consent.
You see the "My brain said no but my body responds" cliche in romance novels SO often that it barely even causes a blip on most peoples' radar anymore. For real life reference, let me be clear: If you say no to sex or touching and feel arousal when it is done to you anyway, that is not consent. That is assault.
This particular point was especially relevant in this MFM reverse harem because our main character, Lilly, is initially not interested in sex with one of the men. At all. She has been made the prince's (His name was weird, I don't remember it) concubine against her will and submits to sex with him *because* Ryker, the man she has mutual romantic feelings for, is there to share her.
At one point, she even closes her eyes while the prince takes her to pretend it's Ryker. Even though she eventually enjoys and craves them both in bed, this really bothered me. An emotional and caring relationship is formed between Lilly and Ryker while Lilly's relationship with the prince never moves beyond his ownership of her.
Indeed, the Prince is never a POV character. Lilly is the predominant POV with some Ryker sprinkled in and through Ryker's chapters we learn the depths of his feelings for her which turned the prince into an almost villainous character for me.
A well-written and sizzling paranormal story: Branded By The Black Wolves is filled with adventure, mystery, kidnapping, revenge, wolves and demons, romance, challenges, and there are many other types of twists and turns along the way. The readers never know what was going to happen next; keeping the readers interested and turning the pages; may not be suitable for all ages.
Branded By The Black Wolves has realistic characters that are interesting and well developed, which work well together within the storyline. Two powerful and headstrong women and the men who love them, surviving against all odds. It is a stimulating story to read; where the Heroine is tired and bruised, yet she is determined and excepts the challenge, to save the day.
My first read by Ms. Hollie Hutchins; I like her magical writing style; the way she weaves this story together. Ms. Hutchins has an interesting and different fantasy world in her story, with a different romantic and sexual style than others I have read. Ms. Hutchins story makes the reader feel as if they are a part of what is going on. A very creative world with a rich and captivating background, that is vivid and well written.
I enjoyed and fell in love with the story and will read a second book. Branded By The Black Wolves with a different romantic and sexual style, is deserving of 4.5-stars. Well done.
I was disappointed in this book. It has high stars on Amazon, but I found it confusing, frustrating, and at times boring. I really liked the plot, but felt like the author got lost along the way. Things were thrown in at random, feelings/ideas changed jerkily and ideas/facts were not clear. This is a semi ménage a tois, only in the bedroom. At one point it is a lightly touched on foursome. No deets on that. 🤫 me personally, if you are mentioning a 4groupie give more details please! We had many 3 some scenes, bring on the 4some! I felt like the characters personality and development changes or declined throughout the book. Lilly was a bit more kickass in the beginning, she plateaued a bit. She physically fought against werewolves to win a tournament (I felt the werewolf idea was choppy. They had extra ‘powers’ but didn’t have extra senses (smell/sight). In fact they barely shifted.) Anyways Lilly was taken to be a concubine to Balthen and a warrior. She ‘falls’ for the guy who took her- prince’s cousin Ryker. But she can’t have Ryker unless she does a 3some with Belthen and Ryker. Really long story short, this human in a were world helps save both Human and Weres world from demons. How we get to point B from A is a confusing journey.
what on earth did I just read? Let me begin my review with the blatant false advertising: 1) the title doesn't relate to the book. There was no branding (thankfully). 2) this is NOT reverse harem. There is a prince. He has a harem, and he shares with his cousin. This whole "woman choosing" aspect of reverse harem is totally absent here. someone may argue that because she chose a threesome over being alone with the prince that makes it a choice. NO. that's like saying a rape victim who doesn't actively fight her attacker is choosing to have sex. No, no, a million times no. She was kidnapped and added to the prince's harem, aka sexual slavery.
As for the writing: plot idea had some merit, but it was so poorly executed. there was a lot of contrived and hyperbolic prose. too much sex and not enough character development, especially when it comes to Elvara. also the stockholm syndrome aspect what not dealt with, merely swept under the rug and ignored. This could have been a decent book, but instead it was just fluff and erotica with plotholes and two-dimensional characters. It also needed another round of editing, as there were glaring errors.
Stand alone book, the cover doesn’t really match the fantasy universe.
Got bored and skimmed the 2nd half of the book.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
This is a pretty bizarre story, first it’s a novella not a book (Novella’s book range between 70-160 pages). It’s set in a dystopian world/ future/ alternate earth where humans and shifters with magical powers used to be allies. Demons attacked but the war was won by use of Dark Magic sacrificing many shifters in the process.
It’s a heavily patriarchal and misogynistic world for both cultures. The FMC Lilly (human) wants to be a Royal Guard, she’s been allowed to train, but they keep pushing her to quit. There’s honestly so many contradictions it’s hard to take seriously. She goes from virginal I despise you, plotting quietly to kill the 2 MMCs to falling in love with her kidnapper and tolerating threesomes with her owner (Wolven Prince) because the sex is good. Sorry I just don’t see the appeal. Maybe it’s your kind of thing?
This was not at all what the cover looked like it would be. Not sure if I am disappointed or not, but the story was so not what I was expecting. It actually had some substance, definite potential that it, unfortunately didn't quite meet. There was enough here to keep me reading until the end, but . . . Although the heroine can claim a happy-for-now for sure, a hea? That could still be in doubt, as is a few other questions that were left unresolved - to my satisfaction. It gave me something to think about, but . . . Can I really trust the King to do what he said he would? Is anyone else at all interested in the ancestry of the heroine? Is Mom doing okay? Is the heroine going to get to go back and kick some chauvinist butt? Yes well, like I said, I was held to the end, but left a bit unsatisfied.
This has been one of the best erotic books I have read. There are only a few steamy scenes which are off the charts. I definitely would have enjoyed more erotic scenes. With that being said, this erotic story had much more depth then all the others I have read. It obviously has a paranormal part to it since it's about werewolves, but the writing is so well written it seems natural. It also has a feel of ancient times. Amazing book!
On another note, I noticed no editing errors. This is an extremely high point for me, as I hate reading books that I have to guess at what they're trying to say, or re-read sentences to make sure I really grasped what they were saying.

The cover is deceiving a little bit. Yes, there is a menage; however, after the one scene (not what you assume will happen), the menages are only mentioned in passing rather than explored for the reader. This book was more about the empowerment of Lily, a woman who wanted to be a King's guard among the humans, kidnapped to train and fight in a Lupin female tournament. Even though Lily develops feelings and a relationship with Ryker, (prince's step-cousin and responsible for kidnapping Lily), the main focus of the story is on her training and then the competition. Again, not what was inferred by the cover. Solid writing thus the four stars.
I received this book for Free to Give My True & Honest Review..
I did like Hollie's latest novel, where we have human Lilly who's different to the other women from her area as she wants to join the King's soldiers. And it's during the end across the training when her life takes a complete turn around when a stranger 'Ryker' wants to 'practice' with her. It's from here we see that Ryker took her for his cousin, The Prince of The Black Wolves & he wants her as NOT just a warrior but also his concubine. Come & see how that plays out...
Lily tries to train with other soldiers in her town no matter how harsh they are to her. Then Ryker appears and challenges her to a duel which she loses. Lily wakes up in were territory and finds she is now a concubine to Prince Balthen. But she is also allowed to train with the fierce woman were warriors. As Balthen wants her to win a tournament. But they do not know the threat of demons are upon the once again. Can they stop the inevitable? Will Lily find love in her new situation or will she plot her revenge?
An interesting book where wolven and humans have been enemies and friends. But one human female will be taken in the hopes of helping and maybe saving them. I liked how the main female is always shown as a strong and definitely feisty woman. The prince is definitely no Prince Charming. Action and plenty of heat.

A charming story about a headstrong woman who wants to become a warrior. She perseveres against all odds. Then, she is kidnapped and taken to a Wolven stronghold where she begins more intense training taught by and to women. She is also kept by a prince and his cousin for other reasons. When demons begin to attack, they will need all their training, and, a little magical assistance to survive. A well told story with two powerful women and the men who love them.
So much more than I expected. The plot and writing were much better than I have seen in this type of book. You feel her pain and determination in every training. The love story is between two not three and is much more believable than books that show two males who don’t get along sharing one woman. The focus is more on the challenge then the sex which makes this book awesome. Don’t get me wrong, the sex is good too.
Lily wants to train to be a kings guard. On one days end as she's leaving she meets Ryker. He is the wolf princes cousin. Ryker makes a wager and Lily fails. Ryker drugs Lily and takes her back to there mountain. At this time she meets the prince. They have a mission for Lily. This book has a good story line and complex characters. If you like wolf vs human type books you will love this one.
I was really looking forward to reading one these books in the series. I had to keep telling myself that this was fantasy, along with adult themes. I went into this blind. This is only my opinion, but I didn't quite get into the characters. They seemed rushed. Not very well developed. Maybe this one was in the middle of a larger series and maybe I have to start at the very beginning. If that is the case, then I will definitely give it try, so this rating might change.
The setting is a paranormal world with humans and werewolves. I found the theme well thought out and the fight scenes well described. It is ultimately a happily ever after book and I enjoyed the read. As advertised, this is a reverse harem book and there are graphic sex scenes.

Ok there was no branding but that’s ok... it was a good book with decent characters, It had a good storyline but it should’ve had more... the ending wasn’t bad but I was hoping she would get to prove herself to the humans and go see her mother... but in all I liked it and would recommend it.
This is not a book you can put down easily From the start you root for someone who refuses to conform to expectations and literally fights to make and defend choices... and the steamy sex adds to the story..
The author is a great story teller and this is another must read
