Lecturi frumoase!

Remember that in the movie 'Enchanted' with Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey, Patrick Dempsey, who plays the role of Robert, gives his daughter a similar book for her birthday? It's a book about successful women who changed the world. The little girl wasn't very happy about the book as her only birthday gift but I personally thought this was the best gift a father could make his daughter so when I saw Great Woman Who Changed The World by Kate Pankhurst in our local book store it immediately made me think of that movie and OF COURSE I had to buy it.

This gorgeous picture book tells us about a few of the fantastic women who changed the world and made it into a better; even more interesting and fun place. From athletes to scientists and more – there’s a great selection of some amazing women in this book; a varied bunch, but they all did something super special and great.

This book has also some of the prettiest illustrations I’ve ever seen in a book. I’ve never even heard of some of the women mentioned in it and I was so excited to learn some more about them and it made me even want to learn more about them after finishing this book. I’ve already checked out some books about some of the women and I cannot wait to read and learn more about them. I know there are so many more women that did something really amazing; they all deserve to be mentioned in such a beautifully illustrated and written book. I especially love that it’s a childrens book so it’s easier for them to learn in a fun way about all these important personalities.

There for sure is a lot of information in this book, but it doesn’t overwhelm. There’s even a trail over every page the reader can follow to see what happened when, so this is also pretty fun and kind of interactive.

I think that even teenagers or adults should read picture books or childrens books more often. They usually focus on very important topics and explain them in such an easy and fun way; we can learn so much from picture books though and with all these beautiful illustrations it’s even more fun to spend some time reading them. This one has such an important message and no matter how old someone is, this is a must read.

Such books are so beneficial especially to young girls out there to show them what they are capable of doing; and of course for young boys so they can learn to always respect women, always. It’s so nice to show girls, especially those who may struggle with life, that there are so many things they can do; that they don’t need a man to be successful in life and/or their jobs. Every woman is worthy and every woman can do something to change the world; to make this place we live in a better pace.

I can highly recommend this, not only because of its important message, but also because of the way it tells the stories of these great women and because of the gorgeous illustrations.

Podes Ser Quem Quiseres

I knew I would love this, but it turned out to be even more love for this wonderful, smart, gorgeously drawn picture book.

This book tells us about a few of the fantastic women that were on this earth. From really old history stuff, to stuff that is slightly closer by. From athletes to scientists to travelling and much more, I really liked the selection that was made. It was a varied bunch, but they all did something super-special. I definitely won't mind another book with awesome women who changed the world, I know there are so many more women that did something amazing for this world. They also deserve a spot.

The book is written (and illustrated) in such a fun way that even those that aren't that much into learning will like it. The author also tries to engage the readers by making them follow a trail over the pages to see what happened when with that particular lady.

There is a lot of information, but it doesn't overwhelm, which is nice. I have seem some non-fiction stuff that just overwhelms you and you don't want to read on.

The book is richly illustrated and well what can I say? I just love Kate Pankhurst's illustrations. <3

I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

I bought this book with 3 young girls in mind who will one day change the world. Reading it myself before giving it to them I was inspired. The stories of 13 fantastically great women who changed the world are simply told with a double page spread for each and through engaging cartoon illustrations. I dread to think what these stories will inspire the 3 strong young ladies I bought it for to do, but I'm excited to see what it will inspire them to as well.

I love finding out about women from the past, who still an have an influence on people today. It is amazing for children to read about people whose past achievements can impact on them now, particularly girls! The illustrations were so detailed, and even though drawn for children, my mum recognised them all straight away. Well done Kate Pankhurst! Great for all, ages 8+  #girlscan .

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although I had heard of many of the fantastic women, I was unaware of many of their inspirational movements in history. I was most captivated by Ada Lovelace who’d actually made a significant breakthrough in imagining the first computer in 1840! As well as so many incredibly brave women battling women’s rights and putting an end to segregation. Brilliant, fascinating, loved it!

An empowering and well organised book written and illustrated by Kate Pankhurst, a descendent of the leader of the Suffragette movement Emmeline Pankhurst! Each of the particular women included are given a double page spread in which the illustrations and text compliment each other to tell the story of their individual great achievements that are often overlooked or unheard of- I too learnt about Gertrude Ederle (the first and fastest woman to swim the English channel!) The language used is uncomplicated and engaging and would work well as a read aloud in class. Also included at the end of the book is a glossary of 'fantastically great words' which are used in the book and explained in simple terms should a child want to look them up or if an adult needed to explain certain words in the book.

Perhaps, i'm being picky here but although the suffragette movement is described and explained, there is no mention of the suffragists who also campaigned for the right to vote. Therefore, I think it would be important to make children aware that although the book talks about the suffragettes-they were not the only group, the suffragists were important too and they both had different ways of fighting for their voices to be heard.

Most importantly, the book promotes a positive message to children of all ages that girls (and boys!) can be anything they want to be, with hard work and determination. Indeed, these messages are promoted on the last page in the 'gallery of greatness' with an illustration of all the women together saying their individual inspiring messages such as, 'tell your own story' (Jane Austin) and 'anything is possible' (Mary Seacole).

I really like how many opportunities this book gives for use in the classroom- from exploring the history of one woman every day-to a whole term in which you could explore the life of one woman! Of course, its important to note the book does not include all of the greatest women in History so it would be important to make children aware of this. However, as the book does not rely on children having previous knowledge, you could develop this by encouraging children to find out one female who changed the world who is not in the book.

This book may just be the most beautiful book I've ever seen and it is deserving of many more than 5 stars. In my opinion, not enough people take the time to read picture books and I can never see why! There are so many picture books out there with beautiful illustrations, short but well told story lines and underlying important messages, plus they make it easier to reach your goodreads goal!
'Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World' has all three of the things I mentioned earlier, and I really wish that it was compulsory for all households to have a copy of this book. It would be so beneficial to all the young girls out there to see what they are capable of doing, especially in these times when it seems our capabilities are overlooked, and for young boys so they can learn to always respect their fellow female peers and family members.
Basically, I couldn't recommend this book more! Read it and treat it as your bible!

On a Snow Day Saturday this was a wonderful little book to read about some truly fabulous women. For me, the most inspiring thing about this book is that it is such a range of wonderful women that there is someone to inspire everyone. Mary Seacole is one of my personal inspirations and I am so pleased that this title recognises her work. So if you want to find out about some truly inspirational women read this book today!

Fantastically great women who changed the world is a wonderful non-fiction children's book that is a must read. It tells the interesting story of how brave and determined women, by following they're dreams, managed to change the world. It includes great women such as Jane Austen, Coco Chanel, Emmeline Pankhurst and many others. The writing is accompanied by beautiful illustrations and wonderful colours. It's an incredibly endearing and enjoyable read.

Creativity imagined and beautifully executed history book which is essential reading for everyone. I wonder how a book like this could have inspired me to achieve if I’d read it as a little girl. I’m pleased that I’d heard of all of these women apart from one. I definitely want to do some further reading about all of these amazing women. What an inspirational book!

A beautifully illustrated-almost interactive, highly informative meaningful text.

The incredible women featured in this book- from scientists to artists, from explores to creators. Children of all ages will be inspired to work hard at anything they want to do.
The information in this book is easily accessible, with additional hidden fun facts that really appeal to the young audience- for example, the dinosaur poo. Whilst reading this book, some of the women were new to me, I was instantly inspired to research and find out more about their amazing stories. For that reason, this text is great to enjoy and would be a great resource to stimulate an enquiry-based project.

The stories of each of these women are so inspirational that, if paired with further information, pupils own writing- of perhaps a diary entry, or re-writing the end of the adventures, a further adventure or their own world-changing fiction text, would be greatly stimulated.

The fun, story-specific design of each page of this book was exciting, engaging and informative. Some pages followed trails- just as the women herself would have followed, while other pages were as an old newspaper report would have looked at the time said woman was making the news headlines. For this reason, I think this book would be a fun read for a range of children- the pages are like a treasure search for information!

Not to mention, the wonderful representation of the power and strength of women.

FANTASTICALLY GREAT WOMEN WHO CHANGED THE WORLD by Kate Pankhurst is a wonderful illustrated book on the following fantastically great women who changed the world: Jane Austen, Gertrude Ederle, Coco Chanel, Frida Kahlo, Mary Anning, Marie Curie, Mary Seacole, Amelia Earhart, Agent Fifi, Sachagawea, Emmeline Pankhurst, Rosa Parks, and Anne Frank. It was the perfect hopeful and inspiring read to end 2020. This year, I sort of accidentally stumbled onto Seacole's book and bought it, knowing nothing about her really. Now that I've read this book by Pankhurst, I'm definitely moving Seacole's book to the top of my TBR pile. I wasn't yet familiar with Mary Anning and Sachagawea, the other women are often mentioned in similar books and lists such as these, but the drawings and facts were original and interesting nonetheless. This book might be particularly interesting for parents with young children or primary school teachers! I'm rating this book with ★★★★☆

"Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World" is a fantastic children's book that highlights the achievements of amazing women throughout history. It showcases many of their remarkable stories and achievements. The book is filled with many colorful and engaging illustrations. I would love to have this nonfiction option in my classroom because I think it is a great way to help children learn about topics they are not particularly interested in. I would say that children in grades 2nd-5th would enjoy this read best.

A lovely informative book about women in history and their stories. It includes a wide range of different women, and simple ways to explain the story. Amelia Earhart’s story is shown through a journey line from start to finish of her life. Lots of beautiful illustrations and would be an excellent start for topic work on historical figures or women in history.

Lovely book. Engaging pictures and Complex language. Probably better for more confident Y2s - Y4. Use for a particular topic focus (for example, Mary Seacole – to talk about her contribution as well as Florence nightingale); to support the creation of our own non-fiction picture books.
