Together We Fall #3

The Storm We Face

Rate this book
Well...

So far, my apocalpytic upbringing has not been peaches and daisies (if that is how the saying goes). Or is it peaches and pansies?

Fighting off feral beasts, surviving natural disasters, and coming face to face with the worst that humankind has to offer is quite tiresome.

Psycho ex-girlfriends? Check.

Creepy monsters/zombies? Check.

Orgasms? Not check. Yet.

Soon, I find myself battling for my life. For the life I built with my seven men.

But what happens when I have to face the storm by myself?

This is a reverse harem romance! This book will continue sexual situations and language not suitable for people of all ages. There are also scenes and flashbacks in this book that some readers might find triggering.

I enjoyed this book way better than the previous book in this series.

I will admit that Addie is not a character for everyone, but I like her. This book had a little bit of everything and was a tad more realistic. I was happy to finally get some answers concerning the kind of "school" the boys went to, and we finally find out at least what is happening to the humans.

There was a painfully heartbreaking scene, but because of the cliffhanger, I am hoping that this series will still have a complete happy ending.

Looking forward to the final book.

Eh, maybe

This one was too something. I guess it was all the Addie facing her old self in her head while dying that was so-so. I get maybe it was necessary for her character to grow or something, but it was a bit much.

I actually like her "Did I say that out loud?" moments. Her ramblings are hilarious.

This book seemed really short too, despite that quite a lot happened.

It's short compared to the others, just 2716 positions. I don't know what happened but I didn't like this one. Half of the time I didn't know what was happening.

Book one I really enjoyed, this one and the last not so much. There's almost too much going on and I'm not 100% sure what the point of each book is. It is confirmed the guys are part of some government group and were undercover. Now I don't know if I can believe this, they all are not only so young to be part of such an elite force they just don't seem trained in the least aside from maybe shooting. Everything including (and especially) their relationship is dragged out once again and still up in the air. She's technically dating two of the guys, with intentions to tell them all she loves them but of course getting shot, kidnapped etc keeps getting in the way. I still have zero idea how the Rager's are connected to all the random weather anomalies and why the two would even be connected. Someone is still on the hunt for Addie and aside from masked figures the mystery is lukewarm at best. It's not hard to guess it's probably connected to her parents somehow and I have a strong feeling these shady people are going to come take her. Then she'll most likely get her @$$ kicked yet again, even though she's now recovering from both a broken leg and a gunshot wound to the belly and have to be rescued by the guys or perform some unbelievable feat to save herself. Now given how injured she is I don't know how I'm supposed to even believe she's moving lol, then again this is the same girl who threw herself down a hill-broken leg and all and still managed to run like it was nothing. I'm really just not feeling the overdramatic and unbelievable nature of the books now. I wish the main focus would remain on their relationship and the zombies but it feels like it's all over the place and not sure where to stick.

Torturous angst

Reading this series is doing all kind of things to me. The plot is compelling, I can't seem to stop reading, but the angst and emotions are so raw at times, that it's hard for me to go on. My mind and heart are at war, especially after the major cliffhanger that broke me.

Getting good!

I’ve had this on my kindle for quite a while and finally ventured back to the series - which caused a reread... such a hardship! 😉 Katie May is growing in her craft and deftly creating characters we can’t help but love. Addie is one, insane and totally perfect in her imperfections.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I am a huge fan of Addie as a character. Yes, a lot of quirks come from her background, but I feel like she is how we all wish we could be. She doesn’t hold her tongue (not without trying, just… not able to do it), but she’s unapologetic when she does say what she’s thinking. You either accept her for how she is or you don’t, but it doesn’t really bother her either way.

This book picks up after the events of book 2. Again, a really fast-paced book, with a LOT that goes on. There’s never really a lull. There’s more than one POV in this book, in case that’s something you have concerns over. I’m pretty all the guys have at least one chapter in this book. Some people might worry that it would be disjointed or like you miss out on part of the story, and I’ve definitely read instances where that happens from using multi-POV. It doesn’t happen here, though. The POV’s that are chosen are well-thought out and add to the story, rather than just chosen at random and distracting from the overall story. Part of the reason for the various POVs is that the characters are much more split up in this book. I won’t say how, but without multi-POVs, you’d actually be pretty lost. But because of it, we get to find out a lot more about the guys, how they tick, and how they feel - about their pasts, Addie, the rest of their team. Overall, it lends itself to quite a bit of character growth/development, I think. I would say the group being split up more in this book is my one complaint with the story, but that’s because I really love the group dynamic the characters have. I think if the story hadn’t been written like it was, it probably would have suffered for it, so I’m not saying that I think they should have been together more in this book, but rather it was a minor disappointment as a fan.

So, this one, this is a cliffie. Like a proper, what the holy crackerjacks cliffie. I made the mistake of looking at a spoilers post on social media before I read the book and had assumed the absolute worst, and it actually ended up being better than I expected. I think because of that, I didn’t end up with a ridiculous hangover (silver linings for spoiler posts, for which, btw, I take full responsibility of looking at; I actually had to seek it out and was well-marked). However, without having looked at that post, I think it would have been a 2/3 day hangover, at least. Prepare for it. Book 4 had better have some answers or it’s going in the corner. That’s all I’m saying.

Addie just makes me laugh, there's no other side to it. She's assertive (sometimes accidentally so), and the Addie-isms that she comes up with just make me crinkle my nose at her ridiculousness and chuckle.

May has done a wonderful job of taking this intense story (tension-filled chapter endings galore) and embedded it with moments of fun, lightness, and comedic relief that help you forget you're reading a book where the world is in this Rager/zombie-filled crisis. The action moves very quickly, and before I knew it, the book was over.

*cue separation anxiety as I wait for what's next*

I love that the relationships between Addie and her guys are developing gradually, naturally. She doesn't just wake up and BAM! have all these formal relationships. As Addie becomes more aware of her feelings for the guys, new opportunities arise. Despite the reverse harem idea not being, exactly, traditional, it's handled in a very normal way.

Speaking of the guys- One of my favorites, Tamson, gets a lot of page time in The Storm We Face, so I was quite delighted by that. I love that there's so much hidden beneath the surface of this quiet, unassuming guy. He and Addie share some sweet moments, some moments that had me on the edge of my seat, and definitely some that are making Addie think about who Tam really is and how she's draw to him.

Don't worry if your favorite is one of the other guys- everyone gets some time to shine, and I think May does a good job of telling a great story but also ensuring that we get enough variety in perspectives that no one character feels like they've totally been put in a time-out.

Overall, The Storm We Face was a gripping third installment in Addie's series, and I really enjoyed it. We learn more about the crisis they're stuck in, and the stakes continue to rise as the world is getting more dangerous around them (not just the Ragers, but some other surprises, too). There's some steamy "playtime" to give you a taste of what's to come when we get some full-on action. Plus, May leaves us in suspense that makes it pretty certain that I NEED book four...like...now.

Another great addition to an amazing series with amazing

Another great addition to the series I will say I love the beginning and I loved the end even though a little heart-wrenching at the end there but good ending overall. However there's a little bit of the middle there that I thought honestly had too much dream sequence unconscious sequences definitely necessary to the story and I get what they're for but I think referred it to have been cut down a little bit and I would have liked some more character interaction while conscious instead I just love this world and I love these characters and I would just love knowing there's four books in the series to have more interactions with the characters I love the plot and I love the pace that it moves that but I'll take any scenes I can get with the characters even if it's not action-packed I would just prefer it not to be in the dream sequence conscious thing however I love that it has the perspective of the guys and I love but it takes different angles in the story different take different places I love the progress I absolutely love this series is my favorite completed series I'm writing this after reading the fourth book I read them all and I absolutely love the series and I can't say what a great character I think Addie is I think she's the best female character I've ever seen in any medium I mean, Buffy fan like I just love this man character and I love the guys I love the store I love everything about it I hate to even say anything but that was my only thing I felt that unconscious thing was dragged out a little bit. That said I love everything else about this book and I still even love that I am going through books like water but I tried to extend the series as much as I could I think that also makes me able to say when I say that this is the best completed series I've read that I just don't mean that in the Afterglow of reading the theories it's really amazing and elevates the genre

Some people don't like having too many books. They feel threatened by a huge TBR pile, unable to choose their next read. I'm very well aware that I will never be able to read all the books I want to read, which means that I try to read as much as I can. There are so many new stories to discover! And when I discovered Katie May, it was love at first sight. I was therefore quite curious to get myself this entire series.

What I love about Katie May is that she always focusses on the emotions of her characters. This book is for about 90% character driven. They are confronted with their fears, they are confronted with their nightmares and they have to fight in many different ways. The plot isn't really going anywhere in this book and yet I enjoyed it immensely, mostly because the characters were going places. Mostly by growing in the right direction.

Especially our heroine had a lot of growing to do. She started out as a sheltered girl living a completely disturbing life with loads of abuse in all different forms, but slowly she's discovering that she's more than that. She loves her men. She is willing to fight for them. She isn't ready to give up and to say goodbye to this life. But, although she's growing, she's also keeping those parts of her personality making her unique and endearing.

This book also shows us the ugliness of humankind during an apocalypse. I have to admit that the previous book was a little more disturbing, but this book was far from pretty too. Rules have clearly gone overboard. Everyone is focussed on their own survival and if they can get themselves some pleasure along the way they will grab it. We feel clearly that some bad things are coming for our heroine and heroes and I'm really curious how this series will end.

I will make sure to read the last book in the series soon! (Also because that means I can start a new Katie May series and I have my eyes set on quite a few of hers!)

After reading the first three books, I’ve got my head around some of the plot enough to feel that I can now write a review. When I think back to the first book after reading this one, it’s like I’ve read two completely different books!

Honestly, the plot? Yeah no idea what’s going on there. There are definitely things that are brought up but then are left unresolved as there’s just so much going on!

I love Addie, she is definitely my kind of FMC. However, I did find all the self reflections in this book failed to hold my attention and I had to force myself to keep reading instead of skipping through it.

I adore the guys and their relationship with Addie. I did however think that her relationship with Fallon and especially Asher could have been fleshed out more. I felt like we were told instead of shown that they’re in love with Addie and those two relationships are definitely not as fully fleshed out as the other guys in the harem. I do find myself wondering who is Asher? He seems to be more of an afterthought in this series and we don’t get to see as much of him as the other guys.

I do think however that this author has some serious talent and this could have been a knockout RH series if she focused on one trope instead of trying to chuck everything in. The plot with her parents alone and trying to escape them would have been great enough on its own.

I have definitely enjoyed this series so far though and that ending?! Oh my god!! I nearly chucked my kindle across the room and until I read that epilogue!

The Storm We Face is book three in a zombie/dystopian why choose romance series. In it we follow Addie and the guys as they try to stay alive and find her brother. Between the Ragers, the weather and the humans, staying alive isn't easy. Relationships can be even harder.
We spend a good bit of time in the girls' house in this book with trips to other places dispersed throughout the book. The rules of the world remain the same as the previous books.
The characters are consistent. Addie does grow in this book, coming to terms with a lot of things. She still remains the quirky chick she always has been. That shopping scene cracks me up. The guys are also figuring things out. We get to see multiple POVs in the book. The majority of the book is from Addie's POV, but interspersed with a POV from the guys throughout.
The plot is a bit more slow moving in this book. Most of it is spent on character development rather than a ton of forward movement. That's not to say that things don't happen. They do. There are several things that are big and will affect the rest of the series. That ending though....
I did not notice any issues with spelling, grammar or continuity in my copy.
Overall, I would recommend this book. I would suggest reading the first two if you haven't already done so.

This book pissed me the fuck off to be honest.
Was it funny as hell and had me peeing in my pants and I had giving me a headache from laughing? Yes.
But other than that, it didn’t give me anything that I wanted in the romance and relationship department. There was love, yes. But other than that, there was no progression really in the relationships or in the sex department. What’s the fucking point in having a harem of seven men if there’s gonna be no progression in the relationships other than maybe two and no sex with any of them at all? It doesn’t make any sense to me.
All they did was think about relationships about a possible relationship dream about a relationship. Except for actually taking action in the relationships to make them happen. This book is not a slow burn. It’s a no burn.
Yes, the feelings that the men have towards her, the longing the yearning is sweet and all, but not what you want from a romance or a Haram novel.
I felt like the whole book was just wasted on poetic waxing of love, but there was no actual love and relationship and sex happening just the pondering of it. I’m annoyed. This series could’ve been so much more than it already is. I really feel like Katie dropped the ball on this one other than the Huber department, which was fucking hilarious.

Funny and heartbreaking

First I want to say that I'm head over heels for all of these psychopaths, which is exactly what each one of them is. They all have such heart wrenching pasts, well except Fallon since we haven't been given that story, but even Fallon lacks the moral compass like the rest of them. Like all psychos Addie is their obsession and they are hers. In this installment we get to learn lots more about the men, who they are and how they got there. Addie herself has enlightening moments about herself - she's still nuts and hilarious with her lack of filter but she seems to gain acceptance of herself. Great story, awesome series so far!

I will say the prologue got my heart pounding, the story made me smile and sit on the edge of my seat and the last 2 chapters...well I bawled my eyes out and almost threw my tablet against the wall. Thankfully I read the epilogue before that and it almost, almost redeemed the author but not really. Not after making me suffer so....totally worth it though.

This is getting even more ridiculous. Addie continues to be her annoying self. I am not even sure how this mouth diarrhea of hers is supposed to work. If she really cannot control it why does it only happen at opportune moments. And now we find out that almost all the guys have the same background story, of abuse, as her.

Then there’s these almost fatal incidents, near death experiences that she is involved in, in every single book, what!

And then there’s all the dreams that I really don’t get, that suddenly everyone is having. I am assuming its dreams because at first I thought they were reflections of the past, then some sounded like premonitions or prophecies or hallucinations (lmao). I think they just got out of hand.

I am not really sure what was happening in this book or what the purpose was for some events. There’s just too many things happening it’s actually getting confusing.

First thing first, that ending was beyond rude Katie, I have no idea how the people who read this when it came out dealt with that ending. Overall I totally loved this book and that we were able to see more parts from the guys POV compared to the earlier books. I have an absolute girl crush on Addie, yes she could be a little b*tchy sometimes but for the most part when your her friend she will do absolutely anything for you no matter what and she'll do it with a smile on her face and a sarcastic comment or two. I'm happy that we finally got answers about the boys and their school, which wasn't to shocking based on what we knew from the first books, but I still think there's some secrets hidden especially with Fallon. Tommy, I love that boy so much and he's the little brother anyone would want to have, the little psycho. Sidenote, the girl team was totally disappointed with them and their actions in this book, as Addie says girls got to stick together not to do what they did.

that cliffhanger was just mean.

Addie is in a relationship with Calax and secretly with Ryder even while he is healing from the trauma he experience by his ex. They are healing before they head toward Atlanta to get Nikolai. They get separated a couple of times and are fighting to get back together. Everyone is finding they have feelings and trying to deal with it and then bam! The ending. That was brutal, not gonna lie and then the epilogue! Woozy!

Not gonna lie, I hate the timeline. It is vague enough it doesn’t have to be super specific but at the same time days and days of this and that and why the heck is it taking so long to get to Atlanta? Oh yeah, cause Addie keeps almost dying. Lol kind of annoying but still a fun story. But seriously, the timeline definitely throws you off.

I freaking love Tommy, the little psycho.

This series!

The FMC of this series is everything! I adore her - she’s funny, self-award, slightly crazy with a tendency to speak her thoughts aloud, but most of all survivor. She’s sheltered, suffered abuse at the hands of her parents but tries to maintain a positive disposition despite the doubt and depression from her abuse. The guys are fantastic, well written, discernible between each other, even though there’s seven of them, they don’t all mix together. The end of the world is happening and everyone is just trying to survive - author does a good job showing the survival instincts that come out of people during a fight for their life. I highly recommend this series and will absolutely continue

Illness and inconsistencies

While I like the arc and enjoyed the first book, I've started to struggle through the series as it plows on. The backstory of some of the guys is inconsistent from the first book. I distinctly remember Ducky"s/Declan's mom dying of cancer but in this book his family had a totally different backstory...unless that was his foster mom who had cancer...little details changing like that are common in harem series but shouldn't be if edited right.

I'm also not a fan of books or series where the female protagonist is weak and/or and/or injured all the time. It gets old really quickly particularly because they aren't learning from mistakes and making dumb, spontaneous decisions. Hopefully, that will change but I don't have high hopes.

Another must read RH series

So the series is getting darker and scarier, yet somehow still has those lol moments that keep it light enough that no matter what you have to turn the page. Not going to lie, after the super intense chapters, the next chapter usually starts as a flashback or memory, which is important to help build the depth in the character, but drives me crazy because the last chapter just ended in a cliffhanger and I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! Essentially Katie is the American version of Tate James, a definite queen of cliffhangers, and by the end of the book you will be cursing and praising her for such an amazing read that has left you in a sheer panic until you can read the next installment.

Not Bad

I was working my way through this series. It was recommended to me because I wanted to have a good cry. I did not cry. I will not be finishing the series and that isn’t because it’s a bad series by any means. It’s just really innocent? That’s the closest word I can use to describe it. The heroine is super sweet and if you like men that are saviors go for it. It gives me major Ghost bird vibes with the whole academy thing but a dystopian twist. The major reasons I’m not finishing this book are 1) the plot is moving really slow for me. The books feel unnecessarily stretched out, and I’m not a fan of that. 2) the sex scenes are dry and kinda vague and although I’m cool with slow burn I prefer my sex scenes to be more vivid.

I read this book so fast, I don’t know what to do with myself. This book picks up where book 2 left off and honestly I wasn’t prepared. So much happens in this book. One hint I love is that we got to see some more of the guys POVs. I loved Tamson’s POV. So to recap, we know the worlds gone to crud. And Addie is trying to get to her brother. Well the team isn’t letting her go alone. And you remember the mean girls? They’re kinda important. We get to learn more about some of the team members, and we get to see how much they care for each other. Honestly what am I going to do with myself until book 4 comes out?

Grab the tissues, this ones a ride.

Well this book just took me on a emotional rollercoaster. I absolutely love this series and it just keep getting and better. The story is evolving as we get quite a few flash backs of all the characters. There is more zombies and natural disasters, along with hostages, sexy times, bloody times, and heartache. I actually sobbed a wee bit as the ending is brutal and honestly killed me. Thank gosh for the epilogue otherwise I don't know how I could go on. So now I am ravenous very much like the zombies in this story, except I crave the next book. If you haven't read this series, seriously get onto it right now.

Gracious I love this series. The third book does not disappoint at all. Addie is a quirky and lovable character. I laugh so hard at some of the things she says and I love that her character isn’t afraid to let her weird out. I love it even more that the guys embrace it. The ended of this one had me squalling but it ends in a ray of hope. I will be impatiently waiting for book 4. Dang you Katie May for breaking my heart.

Addie is, one of my favorite heroines. I love her habit of speaking inappropriate thoughts out loud, her bleeding heart and her innocence. Her guys are all great and so different. I loved this book as much as the first two, but (and this in no way stopped me enjoying this book) I really wish she would not be quite so much a damsel in distress! I get that this particular time it was to show a side we hadn't seen of another character, but still. Book 4 can't come too soon for me :)

She does it again

I am fast becoming a fan of this author even if she does twist me up, chew me around and half spit me out, the other half is just hanging for book 4, dark and tortuous with a whole topping of love, more twists and turns than an English maze, just flaming fantastic, if you want end of the world as we know it zombies, a really mixed bag of broken characters and a large dose of why choose, then welcome to this series, it’s got it all
