Short stories always end up lacking a little something in their story but this one was pretty close to a nice beginning middle end to end and still keeping it as a short story not a novella. I am always seeking a good ghost story. So many have just brutal ghosts that are horrific and they become horror books which isn't my thing. others it's this a friendly Ghost that can be done well so it's not just a Casper sort of thing and sometimes that can be enjoyable. I guess I'm looking for something in between maybe a mystery sort of a thing almost like the screaming staircase that has a little bit of comedy some scariness to it. anyway this story definitely fit the bill. you got the creepy vibes of a ghost, the setting was a great humorous setting, it took place in a world that I guess maybe people deal with ghosts regularly. because the one gal can hear the ghost but the other guy can actually control or at least settle them and perhaps others. it was a fascinating story. I will definitely review unfettered 3 as a whole anthology but that's always difficult because some stories are stand out and others were skip. but I loved this one enough to rate it separately because it was certainly a favorite and I will go and see what else the author writes because if I enjoyed that I might enjoy something else as well.

I read this in the anthology "Unfettered 3".

We are treated to a behind the scenes look of a home improvement reality show. Marcy is the set designer who makes the houses look worse than they really are. She also happens to hear ghosts. The latest house has two-a teenage girl who was believed to have killed herself, and an angry spirit whose death room few can stay in for long. The “ghost story” aspect was well done. The way shows use subterfuge to draw in viewers was neat. I wish the “stars” of the show had been given a taste of their own medicine.
