Good book for raising well rounded kids

I enjoyed reading this book which is great for helping your child/ren develop good emotional intelligence and help nurture them from foundation years right through to teen years. This book helps parents and carers have realistic expectations and reminds us that self-care is as essential to parenting as other aspects. This book does slightly tend towards a nuclear family but as a single parent I found the majority of the book applicable to myself as well. I particularly liked the tips for using social media positively with children instead of seeing it as an enemy, stealing children and making them unresponsive zombies.

It also covers creating a safe environment for children and helping them keep themselves safe for example by identifying 'safe' adults and so on.

If you have a teenager then this book is good to read along with Life Strategies for Teens - I read it before this one (although I'd recommend reading this first and then that). The reads are fairly quick and they are well set out so you can always dip back in if need be. Would definitely recommend.

Guidance well done

This book gives helpful tips for multiple stages of childhood. With me having both teens and small children, I find this book beyond invaluable.
Really well written with an easy flow. I wasn't bogged down with a ton of statistics or technical jargon. The tone of this book was laid back, yet extremely informative.
Anything from self esteem to feeling loved, or from safety to self sufficiency, this will equip a parent with the information needed for their child to succeed.
For me, the section covering social skills was pure gold!!! The advice was just so good. In all the parenting books I've read in the past 24 years (because, I have a grown daughter too, lol), this one will forever stand out to me.
Overall, this was an enjoyable and educational read, a must-have tool for any parent's toolbox.

A great book for parent improvement

Being a father of 2 boys, there are always new challenges and obstacles that my wife and I face. This book really helped to provide additional strategies for us to think about but, at the same time it confirms that we are on the right track with so many things we are doing.
The challenges of social media are always changing and I enjoyed the section covering this area, particularly in light of our kids having to adopt social media on the back of having to be isolated at home recently. Great solid and worthwhile read!

Lots of useful ideas

Some good suggestions. As a teacher, I would be careful with the ‘showering them with praise’ idea. Of course praise is very important but growth mindset research suggests it should be used in relation to the process etc. But this book offers a lot of insightful ideas which I’m sure will be helpful to many.

Field Guide to Children/teens

Know how they say children dont come with an instruction manual?

That's because they haven't read this book.

Not only does this book give great tips for dealing with all kinds of very specific problems, it also gives great over arching advice.

Easy to follow with great tips

I’m a parent of five with children ranging from 2-17. I also work in special education. The tips are laid out in a numbered outline. This makes it easier to reference back to a particular section of the book. The only part I struggled with was the part about teaching your child organization and time management. I’m ADHD and can’t teach myself those skills. I absolutely love the games for developing social skills. I plan to use the ones about identifying emotions with my autistic students.
