It's been a surreal time re-reading Sluggy Freelance, as I HAD read a great deal of it once upon a time years ago (In the year two thousaaaaaaaand!). While I've largely forgotten most of it, it comes back to me AS I'm reading it, from comfy feelings of "Awww look at these hijinks! I can't wait to see more tomorrow!" to on-the-edge-of-my-seat emotions of "Oh gosh, when will this epic saga ever be resolved?" ...and then to feelings of annoyance and beleaguered exhaustion that suddenly and swiftly resurface after decades of lying low, where I heave a sigh and say "Oh yeah. I HATED this part."
'This part' being Oasis. Lord but I remember I hated anything and everything having to do with that character. Because (spoilers), what starts as just another whacky adventure in 'The Isle of Dr. Steve' eventually transforms into a teeth-gratingly obnoxious foil for why Torg and Zoe can never resolve their on-again-off-again feelings of attraction, and the contagion spreading rapidly-growing cerberus syndrome throughout the comic (The 'cerberus effect' being when a once-lighthearted and comedic piece of media grows increasingly serious, until, in its later stages, it's melodramatic, serious and gritty).

Funnier and more exciting than previous installments.

I don't have a review for this book individually, but I've reviewed it together with the next two books over here on my blog.
