Meh.

Monster was an okay second book for theShifter Academy series. I wouldn't necessarily say it was better or worse than the first one - they both were subpar in my eyes. I wanted to like everything a bit more since it was the second book.. but I feel like nothing really happened in this one either.

The characters still ended up annoying the shit out of me here or there. It did have some interesting stuff happening in it though - which is why I continued through this thing. However, the overall ending fell flat for me. I'm surprised I even finished it.. but I have no idea if I will dive into the next one or not.

Okay it is official, Reverse Harem is a no for me. The repetition in this book was really annoying. I love Scarlett Haven, but this series isn't my cup of tea.

In Monster, book two of the Shifter Academy, we pick up where Different left off. Penelope is just recovering from the attack that had happened the night before. Her guys have become even more protective than they already were. As they try to uncover who was behind the attack, life must go on. Not only has she become an Aunt, she has discovered that she has some powers of her own. When she is upset things happen. Things that she needs to learn how to control or she could hurt a lot of people. She starts to have doubts, believing that maybe she is dangerous to those she loves, maybe she is a Monster?!

I am really getting into this second installment of the Shifter Academy. One I am on an Academy kick right now, and two I so love shifters. We of course have a YA slow burn romance going on. She knows she loves her guys, and they of course love and adore her. But she is young and it shows. She has lots of doubt about herself and being thrust into the shifter universe. Her guys try to make her feel at home and know that there is nothing to fear, but she is still shadowed by doubt. When you throw in the introduction of one of the ex's, She has a reaction, a big one. When she gets scared, yet another reaction. All of these lead to clues on what exactly she is, which we get to find out at the end! And I hate to say, what she is, did not even cross my mind!! The romance pace is a slow pace, as Penelope is just not ready. I love this. The guys are all ready to take it to the next level, sex, but she is not ready. They respect that and leave it completely up to her.
Over all, if you are looking for a slow paced YA RH this series is for you.

Good story

Good story but in books 1 and 2 there are so many errors it's a bit off putting meaning you have to re read sentences to make sense of them for example an is used instead of a or words are repeated these books need a good proof read. The lead is really quite annoying and is so low in confidence i wouldn't mind so much if her character progressed from book 1 to book 2 but the I'm not good enough line got old fast and it's constant. I will probably read book 3 just because I can't bare not finishing a series but I truly hope the author reads it before publishing.

Okay.

I like the story line. It’s interesting and there are some elements that are fresh to the whole supernatural hybrid trope that I enjoy. The grammatical and spelling errors here and there are a bit annoying. Honestly this series feels like something I’d find on Wattpad or some other fanfic site. That’s not to say that I’m not looking forward to the next installment, but yeah. It’s not amazing. Not awful, but hey, it’s a nice little palate cleanser series.

Terrible.. So much repeated sentences which are cut and paste with the same chapter.

Continues the story

Overall, the writing was good and the story was decent, what I felt dragged it down was repetitive scenes in the middle and editing errors.

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY count down begins..

PS: THIS WHOLE REVIEW IS FILLED WITH SPOILERS SO READ AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE!!! PPS: IM REALLY SORRY ABOUT THE SPOILERS I DIDNT MEAN TO I JUST FINNISHED THE BOOK AND JUST WROTE MY WHOLE THOUGHT PROCESS. SORRY 🤗

Ok thank you. O.M.G this book was the best. It just came out today which FYI was so happy about and I just finished. Let me just say this...Its amazing!!!! From her sister thinking she's a player to the how dare you try to flirt with my mate earth rumble rumble (I would have loved to see have seen her buried or sum but that's just my evil streak) Eeeeeee ok and the ending awwww I knew like half way that she would be some kind of elemental but WOW. And the best part is she just wants to be a normal paranormal but now not only is she a hybrid but top dog to... you know when people find out they gonna be pissed. Oooo I cant wait to find out why her mom ran with her. Wait...OMG she gonna be queen of the short people lol with giant mates.....LMBO!!! OK sorry there is no punctuation in this but im sooooo excited. Y does it have to take so long for the next book 😭😭! This is why I normally wait for the series to be finished before reading cause I hate the wait. Ok well I'll just have to ReRead the series when it's time for the next one to come out so I can refresh myself. Thank you for being a wonderful book writer and for writing one of my fave genres now I'm going to go read all your books that I've never read. If you read the book and like it comment back to this review so we can talk about the book I always love book buddies. Thx Scarlett 😘❤

Jaw dropping goodness!!

In this book Penelope's powers begin to grow. She and her beloved four mates stl don't know what supernatural being is her other half. They're curious to find out if she may still shift into a wolf. They still don't know who was behind the heinous attack in her in book one. I HIGHLY suggest starting with book one first or you might not understated all the undertones. Much is revealed in this book, and definitely some jaw on the floor reveals LOL. We do learn what her dominant half is, and I can honestly say I didn't see that coming. I'm looking forward to the conversation she'll have with her mum regarding not being her biological child. Having been raised as a twin in the family, and keeping it secret must be breaking her heart. Personally i think her family will love her just the same and embrace her once they learn all that's happened to Pen. The book ends in a semi cliffhanger. I can't wait for book three to come out in a few weeks!!! This book is so exciting! Filled with many secrets, what I'm guessing are political machinations, supernatural craziness and most of all love. I highly suggest checking this series out!!

Monster, book two in the Shifter Academy series, was a disappointment. It continued in the same vein of book one. As the synopsis says, Penelope exhibits new powers. At the end, it is revealed (as I expected) that she is I found Penelope to whiny and lame in a cyclical fashion in this book. There’s been no real fleshing out of relationships (specifically of the guys and their personalities and all that). Also, she says she hates the academy, but we never really see why, and there is zero detail about her classes. There’s also a distinct lack of world building beyond detailing what species exist and minimal explanations of some of their powers. I personally find Penelope to be a pain in the ass, and I can’t really bring myself to care about her. Also, I found this book to be a bit skimpy on actual plot. I’m glad it was barely over a hundred pages, as I might have DNFed otherwise. 2 stars.

OMG! Scarlet Haven has done it again! Monster was such a thrilling book! Penelope and her guys are so funny and are just great. Penelope’s powers are growing so much! She is part fae! Are you serious! Wasn’t expecting that. And how did Liam dad find out and figure out where Penelope’s dad was? I love Penelope’s eyes like just the way they can change colors is so so cool! She said I love you to the guys now, finally! Scarlet haven you need to give us more of Penelope and the guys and we need to find out more about her dad and what happened to her mom. We just need so much and I hope there’s gonna be a lot in Hybrid. And wow I just wanted to punch her grandfather so much! This was so awesome! Scarlet haven you rock!

Book 2 in the shifter academy series, a clean YA reverse harem paranormal romance, is a good addition to the series. Penelope is safe, for the moment, but she knows many of the shifters don't like her. But she has the boys to protect her. Monster is the continuation of Penelope's story, and we learn more about her and her four "boyfriends"in this book. Scarlett Haven is a clean romance writer, but I think she may be in tricky waters with this reverse harem YA paranormal romance. There is one scene that starts to get sexy, but is not taken any further, and the protagonist's virginity is emphasized.

WOW, that's all I can say!

Penelope is learning who she is and more about herself daily. She is also busy learning more about her 4 incredible mates. Penelope finds out how much all 4 of the boys love her. But love is never easy when your life has been flipped upside down from the way you grew up. She also learns more about the mate bond. She has so many questions about her mom, where she comes from and who her dad is. All she knows is she is half wolf shifter and her mom hide her to protect her before she died. I can't wait for the next book in the series it's on my TBR list for sure!!!

The book itself needs editing, there are spelling errors and some consistency errors. BUT the story is fun, the characters are great.

Penelope is just adorable, and her guys are genuinly good guys. The author hasn’t played into the typical reverse harem-stereotypes too much (one is dark and moody, one is a flirt, one is the silent one and one is an alpha) and only to give some more depth to their oersonaliteis instead of the stereotype BEING their personality. And Penelope is their center and their everything and that is really cute.

The plot is fun, fast and I really enjoy the storyline.
So its a shame it hasn’t been edited and made easily available. If you do want to read it, I found the series herr: https://m.vk.com/wall-174681246_3963

Unique story

This is the second in the series, and the first book, Different, should definitely be read first. This is a unique storyline, with engaging characters. The plot is fairly quick, with some editing errors. Not enough to really distract from the story, but hopefully they get fixed in the future to eliminate that minor irritant. The story is clearly not done, but doesn't end in what I consider a cliffhanger. The next book is scheduled to be released soon, and I look forward to reading it.

Okay

Not much happens in this one. I agree with the comment saying this one could have been combined with the first. I can't see myself finishing this series. The lack of editing its distracting, there is way too much repetition between her saying she wishes she could block their thoughts and calling herself a monster. It doesn't look like she has any chance of becoming more than a fumbling complainer, and plot has way too many inconsistencies.

If I could give half stars, this would be a solid 2.5, but no way can I give 3.

A strong follow up

This is a good follow up to the first book. Penelope is starting to get stronger and I think she will come into her own properly in the 3rd book. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone so I will not go into detail about what happens in the book but just say that it is worth a read. The main problem I have with the book is that it the proof reader has not done a great job and really that is not the worst complaint in the world.

Like others have said, a lot of errors.
I think it was a bit better than the first but both really could’ve been combined.
Still a lot of self doubt.
The boys all read the same. Liam is the only one that really is set apart in my opinion. Even the author can’t tell them apart because you’ll be reading from one of the guys point of view then it’ll switch guys like the author just forgot who’s POV she was writing from.

Poor Penelope. As her powers grow, she feels more like an outcast, because it is obvious that she is unlike all the other shifters. While this is going on, she is also dealing issues that come up with her mates, like her family and their life before. All this is highly emotional for her, the you throw in the ending, where we (and she) learns where she came from. Very good story.

Loved it

I devoured this book, it really grabbed my attention, I loved it. Questions are answered and more questions appear. The characters were fun to read about and interactions between characters was fantastic. The storyline was enjoyable and captivating. Can't wait for the next book.

page turning

At first you have a idea what is going on and then it changes on you. I loved it. I finally got to like Penelope more and was glad she showed some emotion that wasn’t being scared like in the first book but you had to experience that with her because she was new to everything. I love her mates and how they describe her to them

I loved this book! Few typos but over all amazing a bomb drop at the end I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next! Love the way Penelope has grown she still she but she starting to come into her own and stick up for herself and what she wants it’ll cool to see the person she is going to become.

Penelope is uncovering more and more gifts that give a clue to what she is, but none of them seem to give the answers she needs. Her emotions are causing all sorts of things to happen, from earthquakes to making it rain when she's sad.
But the big question is does her grandfather actually know what she is already?
This series is turning out to be an enjoyable read.

Honestly I think it is ridiculous how "understanding" this girl is and I don't think it's very realistic. And it really drags the plot along. Really, I read another book by this author and she was just as downhearted on herself as this girl is. And this girl doesn't have a good reason to be! It gets kind of annoying. And it relies way too much on this girls thoughts to get the plot moving. And it is soooo convenient that the boys can read her thoughts and control whether she learns to block or not. It is just ridiculously overprotective, and overwhelmingly sweet for getting to know guys who use their worry and concern to control this girl. Maybe I am being overdramatic but dear lights this is getting on my nerves.

Penelope is not really adjusting to her new life as a half wolf shifter, the ending we find out what her dominant side is. Her mates are so protective that it is sweet. Her monster powers are elemental I think...cannot wait until the next book!!

Good read

I enjoyed book one and now book two. While there were a few grammatical errors and some mildly annoying repetitive thoughts from our FMC. the story continued and gave us insight to our characters and the overall plot. I’m interested to see what book three will bring.

Love Scarlett's Books

I love Scarlett's books. It makes RH relatable because it's not all about the relationship but yet still building on the relationship in a subtle way. I feel like this could be someone's introduction to RH.
