Let Me Show You

Rate this book
When a veterinarian and a construction worker connect, it takes mishaps, mistakes, and a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Rex to show them they’re made for each other.

Dr. Carter Falon is content living a quiet life in a small town caring for his animal patients. That doesn't mean he's not looking for a distraction. After finding himself precariously wedged… naked and at the mercy of a drop-dead gorgeous construction worker, Carter hires his savior to renovate his home.

When Tanner Grady’s best friend and new niece needed him, he uprooted and relocated without a second thought. His life has since been centered on work and spending time with his family, but when he comes to the rescue of a cute vet, Tanner finds he's a lot more interested in the homeowner than the house he’s renovating.

Book one in Becca Seymour’s low-angst, feel-good LGBTQ series, True-blue. In the small town of Kirkby, there are busybodies, dogs who cause chaos, families who have the “best” of timing, and opportunities for good men to find their perfect match.

I liked both MC's well enough, but there were just kind of "there". I never got to that point that I was so wrapped up in them that I couldn't breathe if they didn't happen to get their HEA.

Once they got started, the book had a decent bit of steam, which began a little sooner than I would've preferred.
However, I wish that some of those sexed-up pages had instead been dedicated to seeing specific situations where they spent quality time together growing their feelings.

I would've liked for the situation with Carter's asshole boss, Scott, to have been more fleshed out, too, but I'm pretty sure that was being saved for book 2, which features Scott and Tanner's best friend, Davis.

3.25 stars.

PS -- Using phrases like "baby girl" and "baby boy" usually isn't nearly as cute as the person saying it thinks that it is. Just sayin'...

The good about this story is that these guys are incredibly sweet together.

The not so good is that relationship development is done through time jumps (days and weeks).

The disappointing was that there was a lot of telling instead of showing. Especially when it came to the drama, so it made it all seemed contrived.

All that said, I'm not turned off to the series....yet.

I liked this. I liked this quite a bit, actually. It was sweet and romantic and hopeful, and so very easy to read.

There was a lot to like about this M/M romance, from the warm small-town setting and the ensemble cast of likable characters, to the general low-angst tone and the feel-good nature of the story.

I especially liked the vet-meets-contractor meet-cute and the ease with which their relationship progressed organically from professional to friends to lovers.

There were some editing issues of note and a story element, or two, that felt a bit rushed (mostly the stuff with the other vet), but, overall, I enjoyed this more than I was expecting and I’ll happily continue on with the sequels.

3.5*

My first book from this author and lots of promise shown in a very solid romance with plenty of feels.

There's a really quirky meet/cute in this which had me smiling and that just carried on throughout the book as Carter and Tanner fell in love.

There's not much angst, my only criticism - and it's a small one - is that the set-up for the "bad guy" was a tad abrupt. Especially considering, as I'd figured, he's going to be one of the MCs in the second book in the series.

Him behaving like a jerk came out of left field, wasn't really given a lot of focus in the narrative and then suddenly was resolved with an apology that also came out of nowhere. I think a little bit more time given to this element of the plot and I'd have been looking at another star on this rating.

Apart from that though, I liked the small town vibe, I liked the communication between Carter and Tanner, I liked the romance, the sex was a mix of on page and off, sometimes sweet, sometimes steamy.

There's also a nice bunch of secondary characters and a cute baby and a dog so it ticks a lot of those boxes!

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review

originally I gave this one 4 stars, but I am lowering it to 3,5 instead… it was a short, cute and fun read, but… I would have liked to see more of the building of the relationship between Carter and Tanner before they got serious… and in this one we get more of a case of telling us that things progressed than showing us how it actually happened… although I do have to say that their first meeting is very memorable :) the “bad guy” in this story acts absolutely horrible and I’m not sure how he is gonna be redeemed, since he’s the hero of the sequel… but I will still give it a try :) the writing style was entertaining and easy to follow and secondary characters definitely added something extra to this book :) worth a try if it sounds interesting to you ;)

Is it necessary to hammer home the point that your character is gay with stupid shit like “i like men & if I saw a vagina, I’d gag and run screaming.” Stupid statement for a few reasons. And authors insulting vaginas just to make sure we know their character is the gayest gay who ever gayed is my pet peeve. Fuck this book.

I wanted light, was promised a cute dog. Struggled to get to 33% noticed I was skim reading in order to meet the dog, skimmed to 48% and briefly met the dog - sort of, then gave up. Don't care. Sorry pooch you're not enough of a draw.

There's a whole info-dumpy feel to setting up, the premise and intros, clear who the next book will star before both main characters of this book have been introduced. Seemed lots of baby stuff, then baby and 'brother' are completely forgotten. Not sure how a vet would be able to afford such extensive work on the house or why a contractor would price himself so low. Must be nice being cute?! Also how realistic is it a contractor would work entirely alone for a complete gutting. Also as someone who has had far less extensive work done on a house I've got to ask- how the hell could he remain living there?

Never cared about the characters, they're nice enough I suppose, but they're just there, chewing their lips. The writing doesn't work for me, there's several odd little leaps ahead; we learn somthing was 'days ago' and have to adjust, at one point an event is referred to as months ago when I though he was just getting home and reacting to it. It's disconcerting, it also means nothing hits deep.

Also the albeit brief slapstick quality of 'mishaps' proper Carry-on film 'oh my shirt ripped' stuff.

Once the sex starts they were having a short serious discussion then having sex, which meant what they were discussing couldn't be as bad as it sounded. There's unprofessional bullying behaviour that's not acceptable it should have impact but as far as I read it felt like a mere quirk of the individual; without checking I'd guess the person will star in the next book all tortured but redeemed. But he's good looking so it may all be forgotten.

Meh.

I read this all the way back in June or July but it somehow slipped from getting a GR rating and review.

From what I remember I loved it. Might have to give the audio a go so I can write a review.

I love Carter and Tanner. This is low angst, feel good, sweetness at is best. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Why haven't I done it yet?

Let me show you by Becca Seymour was an enjoyable read.
It was very light and had very little tension which I normally like but this time around I felt like it was lacking some action and animosity. Not necessarily between our two man dudes, Tanner and Carter, but with those jerk’s nobody has control over.
The story’s peak wasn’t really a peak at all.
While I’m happy it ended up all rainbows and butterflies (pun intended), I wanted something more.
BRING ON THE DRAMA!
Not enough to turn me off from the author though, as I’m interested in the next instalment of the series!
All in all, not bad!

MM Romance

DNF @60%? Maybe? It’s been a hot minute since I’ve picked this up.

I will try anything Chris Chambers narrates that is included with my membership because I love his voice but this is just another one in a long line of his books that didn’t work for me. I’ve only listened to John Solo when he’s alongside Chris so I feel like I can’t make a fair judgement on him as a narrator but I’d like to listen to more.

As for this book…I’m either having dejavu or I’ve read this before because I knew that the one CC narrates was going to fall through the floor naked prior to the construction guy getting there. I can’t remember their names by this point 😂 oops. I also remember other odd things about this book and I’m not liking how superficial it feels so I’m just going to DNF this. I’m pretty sure I probably tried to read this in the past, DNF’d it and forgot to review it but even with my beloved Chris narrating it, it seems it’s just not for me. That said, this author has rarely worked for me so I can’t say I’m surprised. No rating because “I’m the problem, it’s me” 😂

I really adored Carter and Tanner together. The book opens with a funny cute meet but the start of their relationship is delayed a bit and the build up and flirt is well done.

There is banter here folds and a connection that elevates this romance for me. The opposites attract is done well and we really get to see the work life of both heroes which shapes who they are. They have full lives outside their careers. Carter has amazing parents and the meet the family moment is wonderful. Tanner has a best friend who will be the hero of the next book in the series and they have a really strong friendship.

The side plot doesn't work as well. Carter is being harassed at work and this part of the plot is clunky and gets resolved in a way that needs much more care as the villain will be the hero paired with Tanner's BFF.

However, the joy between Carter and Tanner felt so good to me that I really relished this book.

3.5 firmly in the S U G A R category, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I wanted a little more from it to really make it a solid 4 - or potentially more...
It could do with 100 pages more of dimension and it's truly a shame it didn't have more time to take it to the next level

This was a pleasant surprise! As is often the case in romance stories, love sneaks up on those when they least expect it (or think they need it).

A veterinarian. A contractor. A ramshackle house. I’m pretty sure you can guess where this leads but the journey is, by turns, sweet, hot, funny, and utterly romantic. There’s some interesting development with secondary characters that promises to be spotlighted in future books that could catch the reader by surprise. But I enjoyed this installment and trust the authors vision.

I rarely give content warnings, but here goes: internalized homophobia. The author handles it well but there is a bit of a cliffhanger to that aspect of the story and will no doubt be further explored in the next book.

Let Me Show You is a sweet, but rather ordinary, everyday romance between two men from different backgrounds. The writing is strong enough and while the pacing is a tad slow, the story has a smooth, relative easiness to it that I appreciated. There are no huge dramas here. Instead, we see the romance between Tanner and Scott evolve naturally and with a casual sweetness that seems to suit both main characters. Tanner and Scott aren’t fully dimensional though and they felt a shade flat, but they certainly aren’t without some definition. I’d say there’s enough for most readers to find a connection with one or both of them.

On the whole, Let Me Show You was a bit boring. It’s a perfectly serviceable story, but it never seemed to go anywhere. Everything plays out exactly as you’d expect, from the romance itself to the resolution with the homophobic boss. There just wasn’t much here that I could sink my teeth into. It was all very commonplace. And while that isn’t bad per se, Let Me Show You didn’t have enough of anything to make a solid impression on me. That said, the genuine sweetness between Tanner and Scott saves the book from becoming forgettable.

DNF @ 17%.

I have a few issues with this.

I could definitely relate to the need for a hard body rather than squishy breasts […]

I can’t stand when sexuality is narrowed down to hard vs soft bodies. I’ve known many guys with soft bodies, and known more than a few girls that are built like a brick house. Which is funny that Tanner can relate to the need for a hard body, and then describes Carter as having with a softness about him that was impossible to not notice.. Tanner, you sure you’re gay? Carter is soft after all.

Parents and/or grandparents who are overly interested in their (grand)kids sex lives is a really thing, in my opinion. You have Carter, who’s grandfather would send [him] links to straight porn and try to hook [him] up with local girls and a mother who tries to set him up with a hookup as maybe a week of casual sex would do [him] good..

I hate characters in MM having to assert their gayness by stressing how gross a woman’s anatomy is. It’s especially odd when the author is a woman, and her audience is likely largely made up of women.

[…] vagina would make me gag and run screaming in the opposite direction[…]
.

And I don’t know where Carter is getting the money to completely reno his house. And I don’t get why Tanner would lowball his labour to the point he isn’t really making a profit (Carter must have quite the ass). You would think you’d prioritize rotten stairs before reinsulating the attic, but maybe that’s just me. And taking on a complete home reno as just one man doesn’t make sense… it would take ages.

I haven’t gotten to a point yet where sex has come into play, but I can’t help but feel that a case of mutual blueballs and proximity is where most of the attraction is.

Had to re-read this one. Wanted to be sure I wasn't too harsh. But no the ex was a despicable person

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The ending gave me 2016 People vs Brock Turner vibes. You know the college jock that attacked a female student behind the dumpster. His PR team wanted the general public, to view him...like being caught red handed in the cookie jar. But his been a good boy until this incident. Besides the cookie jar was unconscious. So it wouldn't remember anything any way. No harm, no foul. Boys will be boys! The young lady had to write a book in order to be heard. Good thing she has access to a mental health professional.

Apparently having a person with your same background, to talk with! Is very beneficial.

It’s not bad but

It’s not great either. I like the characters but the story kind of lurches forward in places and there’s not enough depth on the important stuff. The synopsis made a big deal about the dog like he’d be a part of the story but he’s totally not. One guy got a dog and they took it to the park once...,that’s it. The renovations also get blown off. It shoulda said a vet gets crap at work for being gay but no one else in the entire town cares. It was just kind of disjointed. The two guys story is nice because there’s not a bunch of angst and fighting things but everything else is kind of wobbly.

This was a cute, light, sexy gay romance and a perfect escape. If you are looking for angst and a typical blow up with the added heartache just for them to be together again, then look elsewhere this isn’t the book for you.

Carter is a veterinarian and fairly new to this small town, but he loves his job and is looking forward to restoring the house his grandfather left him despite it being a wreck.

Tanner moved to Kirkby to help his friend adjust to single parenthood. As a general contractor he’s stayed busy and is hoping that continues. He never expects what he finds when he arrives at Carter’s house to give an estimate.

I enjoyed this book, there’s a “meet funny” and these two fall into a friendship that turns into more. I loved that Tanner was protective of Carter when he finds out what is happening at work and it is easy to see that Carter keeps Tanner grounded. There’s mutual respect between these two and their chemistry is sizzling.

While there is some conflict it stems from an outside source and Carter and Tanner work together to move past it.

Tanner’s friend Davis and Carter’s parents add a bit of fun and laughter to this story.

I enjoyed this story and will read more from this author.

I’ve read this author before. This is a mm contemporary story with Carter and Tanner as they main characters. Both new to a small town in USA they find love with one another. Loved these characters, a vet and a handyman/ construction worker. Off to re read book 2. I would recommend reading this series in order.

Quite simply put Let Me Show You by Becca Seymour is low key and drama free with an intense passion that builds slowly over time. Of course, the requisite bad guy is thrown in to shake things up a bit but even that has an emotional twist that pulls at you.

Veterinarian Carter Falon’s late grandfather left him his house in the small town of Kirkby that uproots this gay city boy to a town of about eight thousand. Crazy right? On top of that, his grandfather’s house needs extensive work before it will be a home. This point is proven when he finds himself naked and stuck after falling through a precarious floorboard.

Tanner Grady uproots his life at the drop of a hat when his best friend and his infant need help. After a difficult but necessary move, his construction business is slowly picking up. Albeit his clientele doesn’t usually greet him buck naked, his new employer is in a precarious situation and yep, naked as the day he was born.

Although their initial meeting is unique, there is a chemistry that is immediate. But Tanner is a professional and he will not perv on his new client. Besides, his best friend relies on his support right now. Apparently, Carter doesn’t have the same reservations, however he takes his lead from Tanner as a strong friendship blossoms.

‘Let Me Show You’ is most defiantly a friends to lovers romance with an intense connection that smolders until it can’t be contained.

As Carter and Tanner’s relationship builds it morphs without angst or struggle as strangers become friends, then lovers, and finally a couple. Pleasantly entertaining and loving friends surround these men along the way. The only true interference is Scott, Carter’s homophobic boss, but that is a story for another day.

Becca Seymour captures both Carter and Tanner’s points of view and smoothly transitions between them. Carter’s live-and-let-live attitude meshes well with Tanners take-charge alpha male persona. These two are an adorable and supportive pair.

Let Me Show You is most defiantly a friends to lovers romance with an intense connection that smolders until it can’t be contained. All at once it erupts with a passion that finally culminates into a loving relationship. All I can say is snuggle in and wrap yourself up with this feel good and sappy tale of love.

This is one of the cute meet books where Carter, who inherited an old house, contracted Tanner to help fix up the place. Even from the beginning, you see both men care about others around them. Carter is a vet and Tanner moved so he could help his best friend take care of his daughter. There was really little to no conflict in the story, other than a problem with Carter's boss, but as soon as the two men got together, there was a bit of a lag at the end. Overall, a solid read with great characters and premise.

Let Me Show You by Becca Seymour is a nice gay romance about a contractor and a vet. The two main characters were enjoyable to read about and I really enjoyed the fact the book wasn't full of angst and drama.

My only concern was the fact it was told in the first person. It's a very difficult task to write two characters in first-person perspective. The only difference in the two voices was one of the characters swears a lot and the other doesn't swear unless he's horny.

Let Me Show You is an easy read and a great choice for the end of day wind down.

Not Bad

The setup between Carter and Scott was just ... bizarre, I guess. The accusation did not fit the circumstances or their working relationship and while it was positively resolved, it just never felt needed. Acceptable character development for Tanner and Carter, and a decent positive ending.

It starts nicely, there's some build up of chemistry between the MCs but once they actually date, the story lost its appeal and some stroylines felt a bit forced. Maybe it's because I read some really gripping and head-over-heels romantic MM romances recently, that this one just didn't work for me, in comparison.
