Betrayed by her people, does she dare trust a dragon?
The alien dragon shapeshifters who discover Earth come in peace — at first. Then, inexplicably, they threaten to attack. In an attempt to show goodwill and appease the dragons, Earth sends a human woman to become a concubine to one of the Draconian king’s sons, Prince K’ev.
K’ev would sooner give up his ability to breathe fire than accept a human, but when he meets Rhianna, sparks fly, and his dragon realizes she’s his mate.
Rhianna falls for the hot-blooded prince, unaware she’s a key link in a desperate scheme to defeat the dragons, a strike that could backfire with devastating consequences. Will she figure out what Earth has planned in time to save her dragon mate? And if she does, will K’ev be able to save her planet from an angry king’s retaliation?

Under Fyre is book one in the Alien Dragon Shifters series by Cara Bristol. Wow! I loved this. I loved everything about it, the characters, the world, the romance, the sexy times!
The dragons have lived on their planet, Draco, for tens of thousands of years. But the environment, one they require to survive, is slowly cooling and they need to find another planet to call home. They found such a place in Elementa. They legally staked their claim to the planet only the humans from Earth, having discovered some precious metals there, have sneakily snuck in under the wire and are attempting to steal rights to the planet. When the dragons first made their presence known to humans, their relationship was cordial. But now, tensions are high and threats have been made with the current situation. In order to resolve things, the Draconians have requested that a human woman be sent to Draco as a concubine for the son of the dragon king.
Prince K’ev doesn’t particularly care for humans. They are dishonest and sneaky. The only human that ever intrigued him was a little girl he met years ago when he was touring Earth. She would be a woman now and he wonders often what became of her. He doesn’t want this human concubine but when Rhianna boards his ship, he knows instantly that she is the same little girl he met all those years ago.
Rhianna Montclair owes everything to her best friend, Helena Marshfield who is the president’s daughter. So when Helena asks Rhianna to accompany her to Draco, she can’t say no. Only Rhianna finds out very soon that she is but a pawn in a deceitful plan to defeat the dragons. It seems as though everyone was in on the plan but her.
K’ev’s dragon immediately recognizes that Rhianna is his mate. It takes his human side a little longer to accept this fact. But it is clear to both K’ev and Rhianna immediately that there is something there. K’ev believes that he can get her out of his system but figures out soon enough that will never happen.
“Could she accept him as he was? Man and dragon? The same, but different. Could she accept him in his entirety? Or would she see him as a monster?”
As K’ev and Rhianna come to terms with what they are to each other, they are also stuck in the middle between their races, K’ev’s father the King is stuck on how he sees humans, and Rhianna is slowly realizing that the people she trusted are not what they seem at all. Is there a way for these two to be together?
“My mate. Mine.”
I could not put this down! Rhianna was such a brave and strong woman. I love that she told K’ev right from the beginning that she was his partner, not anything less. The chemistry between these two is off the charts! The next book in this series is going to be Helena’s story in Line of Fyre. I can’t wait! I’m so glad to finally be discovering this author’s work. I am so looking forward to reading some of her previous books as well!!
Diplomatic relations have broken down and a human woman and a dragon prince find themselves caught up in the middle. Can the flames of mating that consume them forge a path to a more peaceful destiny? A new sizzling sci-fi romance from the pen of an establish, favorite author simmered with intrigue, engaging characters, and a new spicy hot romance pair.
Under Fyre begins with a treacherous move that leaves human woman, Rhianna, in a dangerous rock and a hard place situation. When she was a child, she was enamored with the dragon prince she encountered, but then she grew up and learned the dragons couldn't be trusted. Only problem? At the moment, it was her own people who had performed a gross deception and she's alone and on her way to the dragon planet to become the consort of one of their princes. And, oh my stars, he's the one who sparked her fancy as a child and now he regards her with predatory, possessive eyes. And, another side of the story which is honest and he has proof.
K'ev didn't want a consort, but followed orders to take one of the puny humans. His reluctance fell away the moment he realized that the young human female he had encountered years before stands before him. She's part of a human plot and he smells deception, but not on her. No, it's swirling around her, though. His dragon side is shouting that this human is his mate. But how can that be? She has no fyre, right? Regardless, Rhianna is in danger as is all her race and he needs to save her.
What could be better than an alien romance from this author? Why, an alien DRAGON romance, of course! The teaser prequel was interesting, but it didn't half-way prepare me for the wonder I would enjoy in this first full-length entry of the series. I do love a good political intrigue plot and a villain I can detest, but add that too an intriguing alien race, strong worldbuilding and smoldering hot fated mates romance will pull me in every time. I've come to trust this author to provide that even in her lighter sci-fi romances. Under Fyre isn't light and humorous like the Alien Mates books and reminds me of the fun suspense that came with her earlier cyborg series.
K'ev and Rhianna do have the fated mates romance going on along with the political match they have both agreed to so they don't take much persuading to fall into love. But, that said, I didn't mind and liked them together as a couple. She makes him start to care about important matters and he patiently shows her that there are two sides to every story. They have some big adventure moments and whew-boy hot sexy times. There is a point when they both have their doubts and then that entertaining twist at the end which, along with the villain's shenanigans, will set things up for the rest of the series.
All in all, Under Fyre did a fab job of introducing the series, engaging me with the story and making me excited for more alien dragon shifter romance. Light sci-fi romance fans should definitely snatch this one up.
My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Creative blend of pnr and scifi with solid dollops of political intrigue (both earth and alien). 5-stars until the final drama. It was a bit contrived.
K’ev liked the human child he had met years ago because she hadn't been afraid of him but he never in his wildest dreams imagined that the same child, now an adult would be the woman sent to be his consort.
Rhianna remembers meeting a dragon when she was a child and now she's sent with her best friend who is to be a dragon's mate to stop a war between humans and dragons but her government really has something else planned that she wasn't aware of.
Draconians can smell fear, lies and other emotions so it's hard to lie to a Draconian. The Draconians had found a suitable planet that was hot enough for them, Elementa but then the humans had also arrived and started drilling which really pissed off the Draconians.
Helena was the daughter of the president and he picked her to be the consort to a dragon. But Once aboard the ship she switched places with her friend, Rhianna and let her take her place. Rhianna hadn't know her friend was going to do that so she felt betrayed because she was. Once Rhianna had agreed to say she was Helena, the real Helena had rushed off the ship, into a car and fled like the coward she was. Since dragons could smell a lie K’ev already knew that she wasn't Helena and let her know as the ship left Earth. She thought she could go back then but he was interested in her so he didn't mind her becoming his consort even though his dragon kept yelling at him that she was his mate.
Rhianna doesn't believe that humans have sent colonists to Elementa so K’ev takes her to see for herself. When she sees them and he tells her that the Draconians were there first and want the planet for their new home, she understands why his people and her people are about to go to war. The humans lied about finding it first and removing the Draconians flag only to replace it with their own and the government won't own up to the truth. Now K’ev's father, the king wants to punish the humans by killing them.
When K’ev and Rhianna spend more time together and find that they actually like each other, things quickly get dangerous because Rhianna is secretly in contact with Earth's president. So when K’ev finds out about that, he feels betrayed. Things take a quick twist at this point and a huge secret is revealed that changes the way this story could have ended but I loved this ending. I'm really looking forward to the next book now.
This story starts 15 years after the prequel. Rhianna is now an adult. She's best friends with the president's daughter. They are also almost doppelgangers they look so much alike. Since the prequel, diplomatic talks between the dragons and the humans have broken down. To try to shore up talks, the dragons have asked for a human consort for the son of the dragon king. Specifically, the president's daughter. Rhianna agrees to go along, but is not meant to be the consort.
I don't want to go into too much detail of what happens in the story. Let's just say that this is a slow burn romance between K'ev and Rhianna. I really enjoyed watching them come together. I also enjoyed as they both learned about the other species and cultures. Both dragons and humans have pluses and minuses in their mentalities and culture. Neither are saints or demons. I enjoyed watching both K'ev and Rhianna come to terms with that.
As per usually with a Cara Bristol book, she ends giving hints about who will be the next couple for the next book. I'm excited to see where the next story goes and to learn more about these dragons.
This series is a bit different as the dragons are from another planet and are looking for a new planet as their world cools. They have a much higher level of technology than the humans on earth. They also have three forms, human, full dragon and kinda lizard man.
If you like sci-fi or dragon shifter romance, this is a fun start to a series.
**I'd like to thank the author for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
"Under Fyre" is a unique paranormal story. Dragon shifters from the planet Draco have been searching for a new planet to inhabit for over 500,000 years. Their planet is dying. During their search they checked out Earth. It did not meet their requirements. However, they tried to establish good will between the two worlds. When the planet Elementa was discovered King K'rah claimed it for Draco. Because of Earth's duplicity, President Marshfield followed his advisor Mr. Biggs directions went behind the King's back and set up an exploratory settlement on Elementa for purpose of mining their rich natural resources. King K'rah demanded they cease and desist or war would be imminent. To take steps towards reconciliation Earth was to send one woman to be the consort of King K'rah's son Prince K'ev. What was different about this book was that the Dracoians had a king but they were all guided by the Priestess of the Fyre. Now that is an interesting subplot to read about. Getting back to the plot, Helena has been duped and used as a pawn for years. They have been grooming her just for this very project. Against her will Helena is on a ship to Draco with Prince K'ev. During the trip from Earth to Draco many lies are exposed, trust was a hard commodity and shockingly K'ev had a hard time accepting that a human was his eternal mate. A tentative concession between Helena and K'ev began to grow. This is the part where things get really exciting. So many confusing contradictions had to be sorted through. At the same time the pull between K'ev and Helena was getting harder and harder to ignore. Helena even though she was duped she still wanted to save Earth. K'ev had to consider what his father wanted and demanded. He was not an easy King to please. So, you have the romance between K'ev and Helena, you have the imminent war between Draco and Earth, and yet there was another powerplayer in the mix. There are so many surprises in this story you will have a hard time putting the book down. It is definitely a page turner. What a wonderful way to start a new series. Kudos to author Cara Bristol for writing an exciting book. I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to the next book in the series. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow what a wonderful start to a new series. At first I did not like K’ev but he grew on me. The world building is phenomenal and the characters are a lot of fun. The king is awful. I loved the twist in the end. This is a story that has a little bit of everything. Intrigue, suspense, angst, love, and a happy ending.
An exciting, volatile new world! I am thrilled with the story of Rhianna and Prince K’ev. Can she trust him when his King is threatening to take reprisals against earth? As for K’ev, he knows when she is lying about something, but he and his dragon are drawn to her. What a tangled situation! How to unravel this without damage to loved ones? There is so much danger for them. I love Rhianna’s spirit, her love of her family, her bravery in frightening situations, and, of course, her passion for her new-found mate. For a big, rough dragon, K’ev can be quite romantic: “One day less than an eternity wouldn’t be enough time with you.” Great reading! A very dramatic start to a new series. I can hardly wait for what comes next.
Following the prequel, it is now fifteen years later from the visit of Prince K’ev of Dracon to Earth. Relations have deteriorated with broken agreements, and King K’rah has summons K’ev to inform him he will have a human consort, and the agreement with Earth will be the president’s daughter, Helena. A little bit about Draconians, they can smell fear and lies, among other things. During K’ev visit to Earth, he disliked the smell of humans and their lies.
“I don’t like it any better than you do, but it has been suggested a more intimate, personal relationship between a member of the royal family and a human might foster détente between Draco and Earth and restore an alliance.” –King K’rah to K’ev
The plot will have Helena and her best friend from college, Rhianna, to meet the Draconian envoy and traveling to Dracon together, but deceit will have Helena trying to convince the minister of the royal court that Rhianna is the president’s daughter and then abandoning her. But fooling K’ev won’t be that easy, he can smell her lies. Before Rhianna knows what’s happening, Helena leaves the ship, and they are leaving Earth heading into space. It doesn’t take long for K’ev to uncover that maybe she was duped by her own people. Now, a change in course will have them going to the planet Elementa—one that Dracon had claimed and Earth has started to colonize. Will seeing it help Rhianna learn the truth?
“A Draconian requires three things: treasure, truth, and fyre.”
What is happening to K’ev and his dragon? The dragon is calling Rhianna his mate—that can’t be; she has no fyre.
“We are two, and we are one. Different and same.” –K’ev explaining his dragon to Rhianna
“She has fyre. We are one.” –his dragon to K’ev
“The duality of being dragon and man, separate yet the same, boggled her mind like a religious koan.”
The story has plenty of mystery, suspense, betrayal, lies, secrets, and angst. The time together between K’ev and Rhianna brings them closer, especially with his dragon screaming that she is their mate, they must protect her. Showing her what her people have done, and then learning she is used as a scapegoat with a nefarious plot doesn’t help. What is the future of Earth—is a war coming next?
Now that mating has taken place, their fyre grows stronger. The death of a mate is harmful to any Draconian. “Your screams of pleasure will be all the music I need. This won’t be sex,” he said. “We will mate. Our fyres will join as one.”
The story will have many twists and turns, and just when things between them have them planning their future—a message will alter their fate. Will K’ev ever trust Rhianna again? Did she betray him? What will become of their future?
The story is a roller-coaster ride of two mates caught between planets disagreements. One has family and friends on Earth that could face annihilation, and the other is the son of a King who is ready to declare war. It will take a wise woman to make a difference and turn this tale around. The story has mild sex scenes. I can’t wait to read the next story, Line of Fyre that will have Helena Marshfield and Prince T’mar.
In an effort to ameliorate relations between Earth and the planet Draco, Rhianna is being sent to Draco to become the consort of the Draconian prince. Rhianna knows that there is no chance of her ever returning to Earth because there is a lot of prejudice and mistrust between humans and dragons.
Overall, I love the concept of this series. I really enjoyed the plot and the political battles between Earth and Draco. The romance...was alright. I feel like K'ev and Rhianna fell in love way too quickly. I understand that they're fated mates, but Rhianna accepted everything so easily. She gave in almost immediately and she barely questioned the whole mating thing. I found that odd. She fell in love with K'ev and was ready to have his dragon babies in the span of TWO DAYS. Lol.
That being said, there were a LOT of funny expressions in this book that killed me with laughter. And while I found the romance to be unrealistic — well, as unrealistic as an alien dragon shifter romance can be 😂 –I surprisingly really enjoyed the political plot. And I might even pick up book 2 because the overarching plot is nowhere close to being resolved.
Helena and Rhianna became best of friends while in college, they could have passed as sisters. While being bunkered in base 1 Rhianna has the best of the best. Not because of her parents but of Helena's father the president of the United States. She had her college paid for and a degree in Draconian. When the time came Helena and Rhianna was going to Draco Helena to be the consort of Prince K'ev. But not everything went as planned and soon Rhianna finds she was betrayed by her friend and the president. As the story unfolds Rhianna cant believe she was setup and K'ev was behind her 100% until one fatal day, that put everyone in danger. Being put in the dungeon, she couldn't believe K'ev didn't believe her but in the end the real story is told from the Priestess. Now Draco wants a consort for the eldest son Prince T'Mar ulu K'rah Qatin, K'ev's oldest brother and now Helena puts into motion she'll be hijacking on that ship back to Draco and try to set it right.
A wonderful start to what promises to be an epic saga. The author sweeps you away to a new world of dragons, bringing it to life in your imagination and underpinning it with a tale of subterfuge, treachery, and a romance with the potential to change the world. I was held captive, not wanting to stop reading and at points was choked on emotion and reminding myself “it’s just a story.” When I turned the last page, I started counting the days till the next episode. Fabulous, sizzling read.
This was a great story! It hooked me from the beginning and kept me engrossed until I finished it. Rihanna is a strong character love the twists in the story and her interactions with the dragon world looking forward to reading more of this series
Not as good as I had hoped for considering how much I liked the prequel. But a decent read. A few things brought the rating down, and I should probably make this 3.5 rounded to 3, but I'm going with 3.75 rounded to 4 stars. 1. Various things are repeated to often. 2. Rhianna 'Rationalizes' the actions of Earth way to much. Trying to make them the 'Misunderstood' Good guys when all the facts point to the opposite. 3. The scene where she tells K'ev something and he jumps to the wrong conclusion didn't flow with his character throughout the story. It felt..... contrived. The drama in that could have been written in a better way and the story would have flowed better. Trust me, there was enough ammo with the king by then to keep the drama/angst at high level without changing K'ev's personality and basic innate instincts. The steamy sex scenes where pretty good. Could have been better. I'd say a 3 out of 5.
I will be reading the next. See how that goes. Couse, with thousands of books IN my kindle, who know when I will get to it.
This was okay, better than I thought it would be, I haven't had much dragon experience, but what I have had, wasn't good. I found Rhianna ...well, likable however she was too trusting, I think that K'ev was okay, his pops was annoying...Overall, it was predictable, but okay and a fairly quick read.
I voluntarily received a copy of Under Fyre (Alien Dragon Shifters #1) all thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.
After reading the prequel (Under Fyre Prequel) I was desperately waiting for book 1 in the series to come out. I am happy to say that Under Fyre book 1 did not disappoint in the slightest.
The story is full of passion, danger, romance, and even humor. It also had the rare distinction of making me cry. Rhianna and Prince K’ev are such well-developed characters I was fully invested in their story.
I can’t wait for the next installment in this series. Helena’s story is going to be so good! I am rating Under Fyre (Alien Dragon Shifters #1) 5 Boundless Stars, I loved it.
this was fantastic. I loved the characters. Rhianna and K'ev were the victims of misunderstanding and machinations. But they hang in there, overcome it, and end up being a symbol of hope between two races. reluctant races mind you but between the priestess and them the path to peace is off to a good start. I wish book 2 would continue their story but I am still looking forward to the new characters.
Rhianna is enamored by the alien dragon shifters as a child, but grows up believing the propaganda all humans are fed about the alien race. Prince K'ev is intrigued by the single child who didn't run, but on the whole mistrustful of the humans who stink of lies and betrayal. Only trouble is he has been instructed to take a human escort. It's a royal command from his father the King and he can't refuse it. Although the duplicity of the humans knows no bounds, it has brought him his mate. How can a human have fyre? I loved the way the story was brought together and yes the Priestess is my absolute favourite person for the way she came to the rescue of Rhianna and K'ev. Can't wait to read the next book and see how her childhood friend fares!
A interesting new series full of dragon shifters and humans. Seems that there is a connection between the two different races and our two main characters are the ones to find it. A nice romance that leaves a lot of problems unsolved. The problems are many and the solutions hard to find.
Rhianna has been fed a diet of anti-dragon propaganda since childhood. When the shaky peace between Dragons and Humans is put under stress, the leaders decide that a political match would shore up relations. Rhianna is best friends with the President's daughter and they are packed up to go to the Dragon homeworld. But all does not go to plan and Rhianna finds herself alone with a very miffed dragon!
K’ev may be a prince but even he must answer to the King. But his dragon is determined that no mistake has been made - Rhianna is theirs and it won't give her up easily. So now K'ev has to help Rhianna acclimatise to a new planet, unravel the mystery of the secret colony and deal with Earth's political games!
I loved that Rhianna would commit to something to help a friend, even against her better judgements but I also felt that she had used by the President and that her so-called friend wasn't much of a friend! K'ev can be a bit of a romantic when he tries and I am excited to see what happens in book 2!
I voluntarily read an arc of this book for an honest review. This quite possibly might be Cara Bristol’s best book so far. All her books are amazing and this was no different. This book has a depth of characters and plot that keeps you there until you’ve finished the book. Rhiannon met K’ev as a child and has studied everything Dragon since that she could get her hands on including a degree in Draconian culture. K’ev is a prince of Draco and through his father and experience doesn’t trust humans. Can these two get past the suspicion on both sides at this point and figure out peace for both of their planets? They’ll have a lot to go through to get there that’s for sure. Read this amazing/brilliant book for one of the best reads of your life!
WOW! A pnr romance that doesn't begin with a kidnaping...
This, and it's sequels, is a story arc of betrayals piled willy-nilly one upon another. Characters both "good" and "bad" are well developed, the scify-lite is fairly consistent, so once suspension of disbelief is established, everything moves along smoothly.
I'd recommend this series to all, having read the next two already.
It was going an easy 3 stars until the 80% mark. Rhiana's signature naiveté turned into stupidity and that third-act breakup was just embarrassing for them both.
I think the premise and the lore were interesting enough to keep me reading. But the worldbuilding, the attempt to explain the lore wasn't very good. It has potential to be better. But it's a nice easy and quick book to read.
Rhianna and Prince K'ev first met when Rhianna was in fifth(?) grade. All the other kids were afraid of him but not Rhianna, she was a dragon lover. K'ev in turn, had always kept her in mind out of all the humans he met because of his disdain of lying humans.
Then the king told K'ev that he was to take one of Earth's countries' Presidents' daughter to be his consort as Earth's sign of good faith. He kept thinking about child Rhianna during the human consort talk with his father though, which was weird, creepy, and forceful. The book doesn't need to force the narrative of their instant connection to readers like that. If he was thinking about child Rhianna when talking about humans in general, sure that's normal--but during the consort talk?
Rhianna met Helena, the President's daughter in college. They were carbon copies of each other and they had been stuck together since. Helena was going to be sent as K'ev's consort and begged Rhianna to accompany her. Rhianna was framed as naive but most of her actions seem to just be her lacking critical thinking skills. Especially since the author writes foreshadowing pretty upfront that just exacerbates her stupidity.
The girls were met with K'ev in full human form, disguising as one of the dragons' ministers. Helena pulled a switcheroo and abandoned the ship quickly. I'm not even going to discuss Rhianna's inaction in this scene, we're just going to skip over it. I appreciate that the book didn't drag the whole hidden identity part as K'ev was able to smell emotions. Rhianna was ousted immediately but K'ev didn't want to let her go as he quickly realised that she's his mate.
Before returning to K'ev's home planet, they had to make a quick stop at Elementa to check if Earthlings were squatting there for minerals. K'ev mentioned galactic law a lot, saying that dragons had first dibs because they had discovered it. But it's not like there's a galactic union ruling them all 💀 and the only species that exist in this world seem to only be humans and dragons.
The dragons needed Elementa as their new home because the current one was dying. In all their talk about bad human traits, I was hoping for a discussion on whether the dragons' home planet decay was natural or it's them destroying it like humans are doing to Earth. But nah, the book was mostly one-sided on human bashing. The only quip about dragons that I could remember was that despite them claiming to not lie, they lie by omission. Oh, and that human women are soft while female dragons are hard 💀
Anyways, they did discover Earth squatting there for minerals and Rhianna was shot because they thought she was a dragon too. Her little naive heart broke and decided to contact the president to stop mining for material. They promised her that they'd stop and would contact her when she has a meeting with the dragon king through a one-way comm device that they'd left her. And she believed it, of course.
The meeting with the king didn't go well because K'ev and Rhianna also revealed that they're mated. The king asked a one-on-one talk with K'ev, so Rhianna was outside waiting and fumbling with a belt that Helena gave her. She found another comm device but it was Helena warning her that the other comm device was actually a bomb. Yeah... they said that the material from Elementa allowed them to make a tiny "supposedly" lethal bomb. The government was relying on pure luck for their stupid plan to work and a small disclaimer by the characters saying out loud that it was stupid, doesn't make the plan appear to be less unrealistic.
Just K'ev's luck, he had actually swallowed the comm device. Why? I don't know. Rhianna warned K'ev and he got to throw it back up with no difficulty. K'ev was hurt and thought she planned all of this to kill him and his family despite him being able to smell emotions. But his betrayal ran so deep that he turned dumb too I guess. The king ordered the dragons to destroy Earth and Rhianna was to be executed.
K'ev returned to his senses soon enough and tried getting Rhianna back. A very ancient dragon priestess swooped in to save Rhianna and reunited her with K'ev because apparently, the priestess had been to Earth for a little excursion long time ago and had a baby there. Now, there were probably millions of her descendants walking around Earth, which was why Rhianna was able to mate with K'ev. The priestess made the king back off Earth and now wants his oldest son to take a human consort too.
Overall, the flow of the story heavily relies on the plot (the author) moving it forward rather than the characters actually doing something out of their own merits. Even Rhianna discovering Helena's comm device was an accident, despite Helena being so obvious about it. Rhianna and K'ev's love wasn't convincing but it wasn't the worst. It's disappointing because the lore was so fun, especially with the dragon's tears permanently scarring them, but alas...

Dragon and Human relations to be strengthened by going to Draco…. Prince K’ev has never forgotten the young girl he had once spoken with on earth all those years before and this had ensured that he learned as much about them and their customs as possible. He now arrives on Earth without his father knowledge to collect the Presidents daughter who is supposed to become his concubine however when they land there are two women Helena and Rhianna. Both K’ev and his dragon instantly recognise Rhianna as the young girl from the school meeting many years before and now, she is all women and his dragon is adamant that she is their “Mate”, how can a human possibly be a dragon mate it’s simply not possible as she cannot possibly have the Fyre within? But why is she introduced by the other woman as being Helena, the president’s daughter it all certainly seem very strange and then when she is abandoned, he realises she is just as much in the dark. The visit to the planets in search of a home that will be able to sustain their life is growing more urgent as their planet is dying and they need a planet that has live volcano’s, river of lava so that both their dragons and their inner selves can survive and thrive. Rhianna and K’ev realise that they are in love and that they are most definitely mates the how, why, and all the other questions have to remain until the return to his home where they will be able to speak with Priestess and also his father the king. However, when there is an attempt on his father’s life it soon becomes apparent that the American President has lied to the dragons and quite obviously is trying to assassinate the royals of Draco. I read the first book the Prequel and thought this was going to be a wonderful series and this the first book has been a tremendous read. The next book in this series will seek the Presidents daughter Helena and the dragon king’s oldest son T’mar being mated as she also has the Fyre within her. I voluntarily received and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
I got this book free on Stuff Your Kindle Day and, while I had my doubts, the ending definitely had me purchasing the rest of the series! My pros: - It is well written and edited. I had an easy and enjoyable time reading through Bristol's prose. - The political intrugue! While I went in for the romance aspect of this book, it was really the political drama that had me hooked! The twists and betrayals, y'all! - World building. For the book being so short, Bristol does a decent job of world building, and I am interested to see more of the dragons and their culture in book 2. - The ending! The ending set up some very exciting potential for the next books in the series! I'm particularly excited to see what Hannah does and to learn more about the Priestess. - The premise in general was unique. It's an enjoyable mix of fantasy and sci-fi, which I love. - The spice was also enjoyable. 🔥
My cons: Honestly. The main issue I had reading this book was that it was too short! Trying to include interplanetary conflict, political drama, enemies to lovers with a dash of fated mates romance, AND introduce a lost children story line in under 300 pages was quite a feat that I think Bristol mostly accomplishes with potential for story threads to continue to be fleshed out in the next two books. But, the romance to me does fall a bit flat because of the books timeline. It was difficult to get a feel for K'ev outside of Rhianna (for 95% of his page time, he is with Rhianna). For me, it almost felt like he was only nice and good to her because she was his mate. I guess I just needed to see more of him independently. Also, I would have loved more development in their relationship! I like a bit of slow burn in my enemies to lovers romances, and we have very few scenes of them together before things get spicy. (Oh and...draconian conical boobs? Really?)
Overall: The premise and spice were well worth the read, and I'm excited for the next book (starting it now). It really just could have been a bit longer.

Alien dragons - now there is a fun, new concept! I have loved Cara Bristol's alien books ever since her first one, Alien Mate, and now that she has combined aliens with one of my favorite paranormal creatures, dragons, I am ecstatic. As always, she did a fantastic job worldbuilding and creating characters who are multidimensional and relatable. She also set up the reader for the next book nicely, showing the viewpoint of our next heroine and building up anticipation for her love story.
Rhianna Montclair met her first dragon when she was just a little girl, and while she was initially fascinated, she soon learned that they were the enemy - dangerous, destructive, and not to be trusted. Now that she is an adult, she is worried to hear that her best friend, the president's daughter, is to be a consort to one of the dragon princes. She agrees to accompany her friend to meet with the dragons, and that's when she learns she has been set up. It's not her friend who will be the consort - it's Rhianna, and the princes is the dragon she met all those years ago.
Prince K'ev and Rhianna were a couple that sent sparks flying from the very beginning. It was funny listening to the conversations K'ev would have with his dragon - his dragon was fully onboard with Rhianna being their mate, but K'ev was convinced his dragon was wrong. Humans can't mate with dragons, after all. Rhianna was a naturally honest person, so it was no surprise that K'ev wanted to trust her. Dragons can smell emotions - fear, anxiety, happiness - so when someone lies, dragons know it. And humans lie a lot. But even in spite of this ability, Rhianna and K'ev go through a lot of struggles throughout the book. K'ev didn't trust his senses, and Rhianna wanted to believe the best in everyone. It hurt her when K'ev didn't trust her. Ultimately, though, they got through it all with love and determination.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I anticipate a very romantic story to come.
**I received a free copy from the author and this is my honest review.**
Under Fyre is the first book in Ms. Bristol’s Alien Dragon Shifters Series. Rhianna is expecting to accompany her best friend as she becomes a consort to a Draconian prince, but she’s shocked when her friend leaves her stranded on the ship. Shocks continue as she realizes she knows Prince K’ev from his previous trip to Earth. Forced together with lies and distrust, they try to unravel some of the secrets and betrayals between their species, they also have a connection and attraction. Just as things start to look up, Rhianna is in danger. Will K’ev and Rhianna ever find their forever?
Holy smokes, there are so many twists, turns, lies, betrayals, a steamy connection, and some amazing displays of imagination! I feel like at about every quarter of the book, I had to take a breather because I knew something big was about to happen and blow my mind! I loved this story and I think Ms. Bristol did an amazing job at drawing me into the characters, their story, and the political unrest and I really didn’t want to put the book down! I felt so bad for Rhianna as her whole story unfolded, with her best friend’s play in it all, and everything else that happens. She’s brave, she’s determined, and my favorite, she is compassionate towards both humans and the Draconians. K’ev is so interesting because he doesn’t like humans much, but he’s always felt drawn to Rhianna. I loved the same but different aspect with his dragon, as well! This whole story was fascinating, I loved the romance, and I look forward to the next book to see where this series is going to go!
