The School of Christ: Learning Character from Jesus

Rate this book
Do you want to move from knowing facts about Jesus to being like Jesus?
Do you want to be bold, compassionate, honest, and forgiving?
Are you fascinated with Jesus but find his character unlike yours?

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me”(Matt 11:29).

Jesus calls people to him not merely so they can know more about him. He wants to transform us by taking us on as his students. He wants us to become more like him. This amazing process of life-change is available to everyone! “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”(Matt 11:28).

The School of Christ is a guide to the teachings of Jesus that will remake our character. We stand alongside his disciples as he challenges them to face their fears, abandon their ambitions, and learn to love. Gradually his teaching and example change them into men of remarkable character and faith. Jesus will teach us his character if we are willing to listen and follow.

As churches we tend to focus on Paul and neglect simple Jesus teaching . This book is successful at bringing our thoughts back to basics! Well done!

This book is GREAT! I love the deep thoughts and lists of ways to improve your life. This doesn't go through scripture in order (chronologically or by book) but is, instead, a topical study of the things Jesus taught us about our personal character and how to serve and honor Him with our lives. It's got seventeen chapters and an epilogue, so it is not intended as a class study or a daily Devo, but more as something to read and ponder over a week or few days. I made several notes. I loved the way Hudgins drew many stories together to make his points and I loved the "learning to be a disciple in the School of Christ" motif woven throughout.

There’s so much to get out of this book that I’ll definitely have to revisit it a couple of times. Jacob does a great job of showing the modern Christian what we can learn from Jesus, the man, focusing on the gospels, as opposed to the epistles. I’ll admit, when it comes to instruction, I typically turn to the epistles, but this had changed my perspective. 10/10 would recommend to anyone wanting to change the perspective of their walk with Christ.
