One hundred interesting animals with unusual features or habits are highlighted in this nifty book that pays tribute to creatures that are far from normal. I don't know how wacky the animals are, but I did enjoy reading the informational text and looking at the photographs. Some of my favorites include the Short-Beaked Echidna, the Mandarin Fish, the Weedy Seadragon, and the Helmeted Hornbill. Each animal receives two pages of coverage with a description of their behavior as well as they can be found. Readers can also learn which species are endangered or critically endangered and go online to learn more. Ours will be a less interesting and less resplendent place once these animals are gone. The size of this book makes it particularly appealing for young readers, but older ones will find it just as interesting.

This wonderfully colorful book shows the most unusual, or, as they say, the "wackiest" animals on each continent. Animals are grouped by continent, to enrich the children's learning experience. This book has colorful and interesting photos, with a concise and interesting description of each on a colorful page. This is sure to appeal to the children, not only due to its subject matter, but also because it is so appealing in the way it is published. Although it is a paperback book, it is sturdily bound with thick, glossy pages. I am glad, because it is sure to be a very popular book in my class library! The kids will love this!

Two page spreads look at wacky-looking and acting animals from all over the world. One page contains a paragraph of information about the animal, while the other contains a photograph of it.

I like that these are organized by continent so you at least get a rough idea of where they are from. There's also an ocean section in the book for critters that don't claim a continent for home. The information is in nice, bite-sized chunks and the photographs are eye-catching. A perfect read for animal lovers and curious readers.
