Magic, the genetically altered Golden Retriever with the mental capacity of a grown human, is off on another exciting adventure. Ryan and Megan, his humans, follow his advise, sometimes, in the hunt for a Alzheimer's disease victim and a serial killer. Magic can not speak as his vocal cords are those of a normal Golden Retriever, but by using one nail on is right paw, he can type messages on Ryan's computer. He also barks once for yes and twice for no. Three barks means he doesn't understand a question. A few years ago, Magic escaped from a research facility in Iran where he and other dogs were subjected too invasive genetic, sometime fatal, experiments. Magic crossed the county until he traveled into Iraq where he befriended a Marine Corps officer. After Magic saved his life, Captain Ryan Quinn managed to have Magic shipped to his home town in Florida. At first, Magic was reluctant to let anyone know he understood what they were saying, but eventually he showed Ryan by typing on his computer while Ryan watched in disbelief.
I encourage every reader to start with the first in the Dog adventure series titled "Magic". Thank you for your time, Edmond Humm.
Marine Officer, General Manager, Airline Director, Teacher.
Edmond Humm is now doing what he wanted to do most of his life. He is writing novels. His first adventure in the business of writing began when he was eight-years-old. He wrote, drew, printed and published his own comic books on the streets of East Los Angeles. That was a long time ago.
Ed’s fiction writing credits include two published novels: Eternity and Golden Goose and eight indie published novels. His short story, The War’s over won a literary prize. His nonfiction credits include hundreds of instructional manuals and guides. He was the sports and history editor for Anka society in San Jose, California.
He received his BA degree from Chaminade University of Hawaii, and did his graduate work at the University of South Carolina-MFA. As a teacher at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, he taught computer science and studied creative writing. When not writing, he mentors high school students and tutors college students in both writing and computer science.
Another fun book of Magic and his side kicks, Megan and Ryan. The story flows nicely but the editing leave a lot to be desired. If there is another book in the series I will read it.
I have read all the exciting stories featuring Magic, who is definitely smarter than all the humans he deals with and it seems the adventure in his life is winding down in this book. His owner, Ryan, is not very in tune with Magic this go round. At any rate, I appreciate the spotlight on dementia and hope to read more Magic in the future.
This book was a disappointment. Magic was not nearly as impressive as he was in the previous books and the story was confusing. The end was strange with no meeting of the main characters. I highly recommend reading the previous books in order and skip this one.
I have read all the books about Magic and his family. I loved all of the past five books. I have waited a long time for book #6. This book was entertaining and had action too. Megas’s Mom suffers from Alzheimer’s and is kidnapped for her money. There is action involved and Magic captured in trying to find the bad guy and rescue Megan’s Mom. Of course there is a happy ending although Magic’s partner suffers a miscarriage and looses the litter of pups. I’m hoping there will be book #7 and we readers won’t have to wait so long for it to be written/published.
