The Good Girl's Guide to Being Bad

Rate this book
Seventeen-year-old Sadie is tired of being a good girl.

Her Career Aptitude Test results say she's ideally suited for a career in the clergy (aka a nun), and on top of that, she receives yet another rejection. An aspiring dancer/choreographer, Sadie dreams of being featured on Dancer's Edge—but they say she's too sweet, needs more life experience. Her BFF, Kyle, and her oldest friend, 79-year-old Betty, agree: Sadie is in desperate need of a life makeover.

But she'll need a coach.

Sadie doesn't lie, cheat or steal--heck she doesn't even curse (part of the reason she hasn't checked off anything on her "Carpe Diem List"). Sadie doesn't know the first thing about being bad. But Kyle's twin brother, Colton, does. And he's willing to teach Sadie on one condition: she has to do everything he says for the next month.

A dazzling first kiss, two smokin' hot brothers and a bet that changes everything. In this enemies-to-more YA romance, Sadie learns:

Breaking the rules can be fun—especially when it leads to happily-ever-after.

The Good Girls Guide To Being Bad was fun, flirty and absolutely adorable!  Friendship, kisses, lists, banter, first love and jealousy were wrapped into the pages and I loved every minute of it.  With a hate to love vibe and moments that made me laugh so hard I cried, this book easily flew onto my favorites list. So if you're looking for a YA Romance that is swoon worthy and smile inducing, then this is definitely your book!
Don't fall for his brother?  Colton Bishop?
That was one promise I was sure I'd have no trouble keeping.

Sadie Day found out she was destined to be a nun, or at least that's what the aptitude test from school told her.  As if that wasn't enough, Dancers Edge rejected her. Again. They said she was too nice and in need of life experiences.  Which she kinda did, since Sadie was the ultimate good girl.  She didn't drink, cuss and and she had never been kissed.  Plus she had been madly in love with her best friend, Kyle Bishop, since the 5th grade.  But her gorgeous best friend had a twin brother. And while Kyle was preppy and clean cut, his twin Colton was a bad boy.  Sadie wanted to change her good girl ways, and Colton could be the perfect person to help her out.
"Gah!  Will you stop calling it that?"
"What?  Your naughty list?" he said innocently.  "I don't know what you're so ashamed about.  It's natural for repressed good girls like you to want to take a walk on the wild side."

I absolutely loved Sadie!  She was sweet and innocent, but at the same time she could be brave and fierce.  She was someone I'd love to have as a friend!  But watching Sadie try and crack out of her good girl shell rang me through the emotional ringer.  I actually screamed out loud for her, from embarrassment. Where's a hole in the ground when you need it?!  And then there were times when Sadie's naiveness had me shouting nooooo and then laughing so hard I'd cry. The whole time, I kept finding myself cheering for Sadie and her journey.  It was impossible not to be glued to the pages.
"Colton?" I said.
"Yeah?"
Okay, deep breath, Sadie.  You can do this. Time to swallow your pride and carpe freaking diem.
"I was hoping you might want to be my kissing partner."

When Colton finally agreed to help Sadie work on her list, to gain life experiences, I just knew fireworks were in their future.  You see, Sadie's relationship with Colton wasn't anything like what she had with Kyle, his twin brother. Colton was Sadie's arch-nemesis, so there was a strong hate vibe between them.  Banter was ensured and it was impossible not to smile or laugh when they were around each other.  But every once in a while something would happen between them that would have me sighing out loud.  And I'd find myself wishing that they could be more.
When I finally worked up the courage, I followed my instinct and pulled the ring into my mouth, giving it a short tug.
That was when I realized just how much he'd been holding back.
With something like a growl, Colton slanted his mouth over mine, and the kiss went from a slow burn into a wildfire.

It didn't matter to me that Sadie had been in love with Kyle for forever. That's because Colton was my favorite type of guy, sigh.  He's one of those where you have to dig and look for clues, to see who he truly was.  And while he came across as a conceited, cocky, jerk who got into fights and skipped school, he could also be so sweet to Sadie.  So when he stood up for his brother or did things that would steal my breath, how could I not love Colton with everything I was. Colton was the ultimate pierced, bad boy who quickly captured my heart.
The thoughts I was having right before ending the kiss…they were trouble.  The dangerous kind. My heart was getting confused. This was Colton, not Kyle.  I was in love with Kyle. I'd always been in love with him—but then why was my heart still beating so hard after that kiss with his brother?

I love that Cookie O'Gorman writes swoon worthy stories that make you fall in love, laugh and want to be friends with the characters.  I couldn't stop smiling while I read this book, I cant recommend it enough!  So if you love stories with bad boys, girls you want to be besties with, an adorable storyline and a hate to love vibe then you should definitely check this book out.
He chuckled, the air hitting my neck as he ducked his head.
When Colton leaned back, it was almost worse because now I could see his eyes, and they bore right into mine, seemingly cool and unaffected.  I had no idea what mine revealed, but I hoped it wasn't too much.

PS If you've read Ninja Girl then you may recognize Sadie.  She was a friend of Ash, so yes, we get to see our favorites from not only Ninja Girl, but Adorkable too!

PPS I LOVED Sadie's other best friend, Betty.  She was hilarious, that woman cracked me up!

4.5 “Carpe freaking Diem” Stars

ARC provided by the author

Thank you!!!

Cookie O’Gorman’s fourth YA romance was the absolute perfect choice for my long bus drive. It was everything I needed and more swoony than I expected. It was damn hot, too.

description

This author first made my go-to list when she released Adorkable back in 2016. If you haven’t read that book yet, I don’t know what you’re doing with your life, but you should definitely fix this problem and grab your copy.

description

Now, four books later (I still need to read her third), I got all the same feels reading The Good Girl's Guide to Being Bad as I did when I first read her debut. I’m one happy and highly satisfied reader, because this story made me laugh, swoon and fan myself countless times. This means Cookie O’Gorman’s magic is still very much alive!

While she gave me best friends falling in love in Adorkable, now we get enemies to haters with identical twins involved and those elements alone were enough to make me want to devour this book. That’s exactly what I did. The moment I was comfortable in my seat, I started reading and only stopped when I got my HEA.

description

The Good Girl's Guide to Being Bad is full of famous YA romance tropes: bucket lists that are actually called Carpe Diem lists (or Naught List); nemesis falling in love; hot identical twins; good girls wanting to be a little bad and enlisting a bad boy’s help. But that’s not a problem at all, because in the hands of talented writers, a story full of tropes can still be unputdownable. This one was.

I’m so in love with both Sadie and Colton. Their chemistry was exactly what I look for in romance books; their banter made me laugh and smile so hard; and the way they slowly fell in love filled my slow-burned heart.

Sadie was a likable goody two-shoes, because despite being almost too nice (so much so that she gets a little annoyed with it and decides to add a little more edge and excitement to her life), she was funny, loyal and lovable. It was such a delight to read about a teenage girl who wasn’t embarrassed to have a healthy relationship with her mother, based on honesty, freedom and trust. There’s this scene where she calls her mother to tell her about something “bad” she did, and it made me laugh so hard, but also made me fall in love with her all the way.

I was also 100% into how her best friends where two ladies who were old enough to be her grandmother. Their encounters were always funny, full of love and wisdom that you only get when talking with people who have lived full lives.

For his turn, Colton was the bad boy with a heart of gold. The way he stood up for his twin brother was proof enough that he was one of the nice ways, despite the bad boy image he tried to keep. He had the makings of a great love interest from the start and he didn’t disappoint me.

I feel like I'm already talking too much and I don't want to spoil anything because there's nothing like reading a great book for the first time, right? But be warned that the slow burn and the intensity of Colton and Sadie's attraction might set things on fire (like your reading device), so proceed with caution.

Joking aside, I highly recommend The Good Girl's Guide to Being Bad (and the author's other books) to everyone who loves YA romance. If you're already a fan of Cookie O'Gorman, then keep an eye out for your favorites because there's a scene in this book that will make you want to go back and reread her previous stories immediately.

✨✨✨Just finished it, an enjoyable reading. Nothing to much. I liked it, but it was the classic high school story. But i like this story about bucket lists to complete, it makes you think about what you can do.
I gave it 3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am leaving this unrated because I'm not just interested in the story. I was looking for an enemy to lover themed book and I saw the tag for this one. I got bamboozled. They are not enemies. They are high school kids who just threw that word around. Besides, I don't really like reading about high school romance so I'm tapping out .

My favourite part about the book for me is the intelligent cross over of the Adorkable story in this one, I didn't expect it at all and I loved it ( i played it again and again). This book was so blush-worthy and giggle-worthy I loved every second of it. The only thing I didn't like about the book is the title (it was stupid). I had read so many enemies to lovers books this year, but this one is so far my favourite.

Sadie had led a boring good girl life loving her gay bestfriend Kyle so when she get a chance for a life makeover she does so with the help of Colten, Kyle's identical twin brother. As she ticks of each item from her Carpe Diem list she falls for him deep. She has no clue about his feelings, his actions state that he cares for her too,but his words are the exact opposite.

This book is really a gem, it is the best Cookie O'Gorman book. The ending was so cute, i was jumping up and down, when i began reading it i thought it was like kissing booth and i mentally gagged at the thought( i despise that movies with a passion) still i went forward with it and i am soooo glad.

I love it, i laughed my guts out 😜😜😜😜, it was totally worth skipping socialising for. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

The Good Girl’s Guide To Being Bad was my third book by Cookie O’ Gorman and once again she didn’t disappoint me. Despite the predictable plot, I really had fun reading this book. This book is what I needed after reading lots of fantasy and sci-fi books. It was light, fun and totally entertaining. Seriously, if you haven’t read her books then you really need to check them out because they’re so good. So far, her books are a hit for me. I haven’t read her YA mystery novel yet but I hope I’ll to get to it soon.

The story follows seventeen year old Sadie who was always been a good girl. Her recent CAT test results says that she’s mostly suitable for a career in religious or clerical work. Sadie isn’t interested in becoming a Nun. She’s a skilled ballroom dancer and she wanted to get featured in Dancers Edge but her videos always gets rejected because she was too nice, has no edge, and lacks life experience. Sadie’s 79 year old friend Betty recommends that she needs a life coach. Someone who can help her completing her ultimate Carpe Diem List. Sadie don’t know anyone who can guide her. Kyle recommends his own twin brother Colton Bishop, her nemesis. Sadie and Colt don’t get along well with each other but he’s her only option. After a dazzling hot kiss, everything changes between them, but falling for each other isn’t on the list, it was forbidden.

Sadie was a pretty likable character! She’s talented, smart, caring, and sweet. Her friendship with the older ladies was adorable. Colton is your typical bad boy with a heart of gold. I have a weakness for bad boys(not the abusive a-holes) and I enjoyed reading Colton’s character. He was totally swoon worthy! He loves teasing Sadie at every turn. Their every interaction and banters always brought a smile on my face. The romance between sadie and Colton was well developed. I really liked Kyle, Sadie’s BFF and Colton’s twin brother. He’s pretty fun and easy going guy. I enjoyed the friendship between Sadie and him. I’m glad there’s no triangle in this book. I also liked Sadie’s mom, she was amazing! And finally I loved Betty! She was hilarious and you don’t want to mess with her

The plot was fun, sweet, and light. It was nothing complex or emotional. I enjoyed the light humor and the slow burn romance in this book. It was a classic enemies to lovers YA contemporary romance. I really liked the twin brothers aspect in this book. The writing was witty and fun. I enjoyed reading the book in Sadie’s POV but I also wish we had few glimpses of Colton’s POV. And also loved the surprising cameo appearances of the main characters from Adorkable and Ninja Girl. I loved those two books and I’m glad to see those characters once again.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book! The characters were adorable, the romance was swoon worthy, and the plot was fun. I’ll look forward to the author’s next work.

The latest release from one of my favorite authors does not disappoint! Sadie has been in love with her gay BFF, Kyle, since forever, so her list of naughty things she’s done is so short, it doesn’t even have one thing on it. After taking an aptitude test that showed she’d be awesome at being a nun, Sadie decides to live a little before high school graduation. She makes a carpe diem list that includes things like parties, a piercing, a tattoo, pulling a prank, and lots and lots of kissing. Considering the guy she wants to kiss most in the world is off limits, she reluctantly agrees to let Kyle’s equally hot, but utterly annoying, identical twin brother, Colton, be her bad girl coach. Colton has two rules though – Sadie has to do what he says, no questions asked, and she absolutely, positively cannot fall for him. Since Sadie loathes Colton and always has, this is a slam dunk. Right?

Plot
The main plot is the romance between Colton Freakin’ Bishop and Sister Sadie Day, but completing Sadie’s carpe diem list is nearly an equal subplot. The push and pull of Colton and Sadie is the kind that makes you laugh and want to keep turning the pages, as only O’Gorman can. The pacing is perfect, with lots of humor in the mix. While the reader may understand exactly what Colton is feeling, Sadie’s inability to see it for what it is drives some of the best moments in the story. It’s a sweet, angsty romance with seriously one of the all-time hottest kisses in the history of young adult romance!

Characters
These are among my favorite of O’Gorman’s characters. Sadie is sweet, funny, confident, but with a streak of typical teenage insecurity that makes her easy to identify with. Colton and Kyle couldn’t be more opposite, but they’re both lovable in their own unique ways. Just like Sadie, there were times I wanted to punch Colton moments after I swooned over him. He’s complex and perfect for Sadie. We also get cameos by returning favorite, like Ash and Snow as well as Becks and Sally. And Sadie’s mom is perfect. She is the Lorelei to Sadie’s Rory.

What I Loved About THE GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO BEING BAD
1. Sadie. She’s adorable as the girl who doesn’t like to swear, would rather be comfortable than fashionable, loves ballroom dancing, and has a list of bad things to do. I love that she never felt like she needed to change who she was.

2. Colton. He’s a bad boy who is easy to love. He likes to pretend he’s a total player, but I had him figured out pretty early on.

3. Complicated Relationships. Sadie had one of the more interesting parental relationships I’ve read in a long time with her cool mom and serial-cheating father co-owning a dance studio.

4. Betty. As one of Sadie’s older friends, retirement home Betty has some of the best lines.

5. Kyle. He’s the BFF every girl deserves.

Bottom Line
A wonderful young adult contemporary with some of the best characters I’ve read in a long while.

As you all know, I am a huge, HuuGE, HUUGEEE fan of Adorkable. I was so excited to see another book from Cookie and jumped right into it. I loved it. I loved Colton. I loved Sadie. I love it all. I love the way Cookie writes and how she builds up the friendships, the relationships, the romance. I love how this didn't have unnecessary drama. It was wonderful to read through. I was even more happier with the little Becks, Sally, Ash, and Snow cameo. But I neeed more! I need to reread Adorkable again haha. Back to Good Girl's Guide, I really enjoyed Sadie's character and how much of a good girl she is. It was so cute and endearing. And Colton ... what a sweetheart. Probably not what he thought he would be described as but underneath all that bad boy, he's just a plain old sweetheart. I can't wait for it to go on paperback so I can buy it and put it next to Adorkable!

This was one of the latest books by Cookie O'Gorman and I LOVED IT!!!😍
But to be honest, it still wasn't as amazing as Ninja Girl.
I could so relate to Sadie, but only at the beginning of the book. (Lol, we both didn't swear..😂)
And I admit that at first, I DESPISED Colton, but eventually he got better. I love Sadie and Colton.💕
Betty was by far my favourite. I mean, who knew that a 72 year old would be so cool and hilarious.🤣

I freaking LOVED this book !! .. it's cute and everything I was looking for in a book :D
So the story is about Sadie, who is a very timid and "good" girl, she loves her best friend who is gay so she can't have her love, but one day she makes a list to make her have more life experience and she needs help to make it happen .. there comes the "coach" and the twin brother of her friend Colton, and the story picks up from there
this book made my heart full and I'm really satisfied with it and I really recommend it for those who want a cute read :)

Sadie lives life like she was born 80. She loves ballroom dance, doesn't swear, and is hopelessly in love with her best friend Kyle. The fact that he's gay just makes it unrequited but her heart is set.... she thinks. So when her Carpe Diem list lands in the wrong hands Sadie can't stop the blush forming on her face.

Colten Freaking Bishop, Kyle's twin and the bane of her existence, decides to help "Sister Sadie" complete her Carpe Diem list. While Sadie is mortified she decides he's the best man for the job as long as they don't kill each other first.

I loved this sweet and funny book. The characters are so well developed that I feel like we're family. Even the secondary characters are fabulous. This author did an amazing job of writing a story that was fun to read and touched base on some very real topics affecting our kids these days. I look forward to reading more... maybe Kyle's story.

**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

I'm a huge Cookie O'Gorman fan -- which says a lot because YA contemporaries are usually not my thing. But she has a great talent for writing charming, genuine characters and some pretty swoon-worthy romances that I often devour her novels in a few sittings.

This was a slower start for me; it took me a few chapters to get into it. It's the scenes Colton and Sadie share that are the highlights of this novel for me and those don't happen right away. Instead, the exposition really focuses on why Sadie needs to complete her list and it's a little lengthy truthfully even if it does a good job of establishing her character.

I think girls everywhere will find a little of themselves in Sadie. She's very endearing as a character and it was great to watch her come out of her shell as she completed the list. It's simply a great coming of age story and Colton and Kyle are the perfect partners in crime for Sadie.

The romance is great as well! I'll admit, I was a little worried about the "two brothers" aspect but I found it to be refreshing instead of annoying. It does a good job of highlighting Sadie's struggles in the romance department. There's lots of great tension throughout, though I perhaps wanted a little more just to give me all those great butterflies (but it was swoon-worthy without a doubt).

Another fabulous novel by Cookie!

Great Read

I love love this book. Cookie O'Gorman can do no wrong. I love reading her books and was excited to buy and read this book asap! I love the main characters Sadie and Colton. The author is so good at describing everything and even making kissing scenes sound so incredibly sexy and romantic. When I read the book, I tried to savor every second of it because I know it has to come to an end eventually. I love how Sadie and Colton has so much character and personality. I LOVE the ending of how they reveal thier love to each other. I wish this book was made into a movie. I would love to critique every aspect of this books but there's too much to say. Let's just say this book was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing about it.

This book reminded me of Molly E. Lee’s and Maggie Dallen’s work and I really, really like their work! It was fun to see characters from Ninja Girl make a reappearance. I loved this story. (Not for all audiences as there is some swearing and a suggestive scene (but no sex)). Definitely written with a teen audience in mind, but fun for older audiences too. It was fast-paced and fun and the twins were such great characters! I could totally see myself as being a lot like Sadie. I think this newest work from this relatively new author will be very successful and I highly recommend it. Well done!

This was definitely a keeper. Oddly enough, it’s the third “list” type book I’ve read recently, so it’s a similar premise to other reads, but I think I liked this one the most. Something is incredibly endearing about Sadie. I mean, who TP’s a house, and then leaves a signed note?! 😂 It’s true, it probably wouldn’t hurt her to live a little, but I like the fact that she’s reliable, hangs out with cool old ladies, and tells her parents she loves them. It makes her inordinately likable. And as for her hair... well... let’s just say this curly girl can relate! I love my curls, but they can often be *ahem* unruly. I’m always hoping people secretly find that attractive.

Now Colton. All the heart eyes for bad boy Colton. I’m a big fan of enemies to friends to lovers, throw in a dash of sexy with a heart of gold, and it’s all over. And Kyle? Well, he’s adorable. I don’t feel like we got to see a ton of his personality, because he and Sadie don’t spend much time together. It’s more talking about him or reminiscing. But what I saw, I liked. I also loved Betty and Cora, and their risqué senior citizen reading material 😂. The dancing was cool; I definitely wish there was a video of that Tango!

I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun read.

I have thoroughly loved all of Cookie's books and I always wait eagerly for a new one. And this was another winner. This couple was adorable, I loved Sadie and I loved Colton, and they have so much chemistry, I loved every second. And Sadie's list was a lot of fun, the hi-jinks along the way to completing it were definitely entertaining, the prank was my favorite. I laughed, I cried a little, I couldn't stop smiling, everything I love about a Cookie O'Gorman book. Overall this was another wonderful read from an author whose work I absolutely adore, I'll always look forward to more, and I completely recommend it.

I can't believe I actually listened to this.

2 stars because the ending had me.

Other than that there were too many things that I didn't like especially the theme: turning a decent person into a bad one just to become sexy and edgy.

The heroine was occasionally too stupid for my liking.

Overall too silly for me.

Put The Good Girl’s Guide To Being Bad on your Carpe Diem list!

Where do I even start?!? Like every Cookie O’Gorman book I’ve read, The Good Girl’s Guide To Being Bad, was so easy to fall in love with! The storyline, the love interest (😍), the leading lady and the “oh-my-gosh-hold-the-phone” moments were all so spectacularly written. I couldn’t put this book down and when I did it was to drink water or eat (which I did very little of lol). This is one of those YA romances that remind you of why you fell in love with YA love stories in the first place.

Our adorably awkward heroine, Sally, is so relatable and what she feels for Colton, her BFFs twin brother, is palpable. You’re able to fall in love with Colton alongside Sadie and TTGGTBB is written in such a way that takes a meaningful spin on enemies-to-lovers romance. You get all the fun, hot, swoon worthy moments but you also get those heartfelt, “I’m gonna cry brb” moments as well. And that’s why I’ve counted O’Gorman as one of my top favorite authors because she’s able to tell a story with a uniqueness that is hard to find. Sadie’s story in TGGGTBB takes you on a journey that plays out like a movie. One where you root for the unlikeliest “bad-guy” to win the lady’s heart. Even the minor characters like Sadie’s BFFs Kyle and Betty only add to the story and are well thought out. I can easily give TGGGTBB a five star review because I’m a romance and YA junkie and this is pure heaven for bibliophiles like me!

The Good Girl’s Guide To Being Bad is worth a read and is a guilty pleasure story that you can get lost in! I loved this story. There’s nothing like a genuine heartfelt story. It had all those feelings that I’ve grown to love — the first realizing that maybe you’ve been crushing on the wrong guy all along.

Sadie is the good girl; she never really strays from the good side. She doesn’t even cuss, she’s never defied her parents. But that’s where the list begins, it's essential to open herself up to take on the challenge. So she knows what it feels like, to explore and experience all those things she’s missed. That’s where Colton jumps in. But that’s all your going to get from me.

All the books that I’ve read of O’Gorman’s I’ve loved. It has that innocence, those first-time experiences you only got to feel as a teenager. She hits it right on the head. I laughed. I smiled and teared up in quite a few parts. It wasn’t overly cheesy or overly angsty. It was just right. The writing style gets better and better. I’ll probably gobble up every book she ever writes.

Overall, Five Boundless Stars

I loved Adorkable. I loved Ninja Girl. I loved Ethan. But The Good Girl's Guide to Being Bad is my absolute favorite book by Cookie O'Gorman so far. Sadie and Colton are so well written. Their interactions are so fun and just make you want to keep reading. I read this one out loud in the car on a long, two-day drive, and every time I had to stop because my voice was giving out, my husband kept telling me to keep reading. The main characters in Cookie's books are always amazing, but I also like how the reader also falls in love with the peripheral characters...like Sadie's gay BFF or the residents of a retirement home. I also love how Sadie does not know what she wants to do with her life and that college is not necessarily the answer for her. I think that reflects how many older teenagers feel. It's just a great book :)

I love Cookie's YA books. I enjoy how she includes characters from her other books in some of her novels. Such a fun, rooting-for-the-underdog happy read!!
