Many millennia ago, humans, including us, were seeded on fifteen worlds by an alien race, the Airlia. We believe we evolved, but the reality is we were bred as cannon fodder for the Airlia's interstellar war against the Swarm, a viral race whose only mission appears to be the obliteration of sentient life wherever encountered. On some worlds humans realized the truth about their origins, uncovered their hidden alien overlords and rebelled. On one world they succeeded, but in the process destroyed their planet. They sent teams to the other worlds to foment uprisings. Our Earth is one. Earth15 is also one of those worlds. One of those teams, Bren and her mate Markus, have been leading revolution on Earth15 off and on for thousands of years, slowly eroding the power of the Airlia who rule as gods. But today she encounters Arcturus, a man who claims the impossible: he was on the planet before the Airlia. If this blasphemy is true, what other truths need to be uncovered about the history and origin of mankind and our place among the stars? Who are we? Praise for Mayer's books: "The best combination of science fiction and technothriller this year." Publishers Weekly ref The Rock Kirkus Reviews reference Synbat: "Action packed entertainment. An atavistic milieu plausibly conjured up by Mayer." Editor's note: Even if you haven't read the previous Area 51 books you can read this and it will get you into the series. For those who've read the previous books, you'll learn a lot more "truth" about the backstory to the series and merge with the end of the last book, Invasion.
Besides my own interests, I read whatever my wife tells me to read-- she's a voracious reader and has wide-ranging tastes as my reviews show (she also always has the TV remote and she's always right about what to watch). I read a lot of nonfiction, mostly for research. Some of my favorite books are Lonesome Dove, Mystic River, LOTR, and an array of science fiction classics including the Foundation series. Our house is covered with books, although I finally broke down and started reading eBooks, strangely enough on my iPhone. Since I carry it pretty much everywhere, it means I always have an entire library of books with me.
I'm a West Point graduate, former Green Beret and a New York Times Bestselling Author. I've sold over five million books. My newest series begins with New York Minute, a thriller set in New York City in 1977.
I love using history and science in my books. My Area 51 series pretty much had me rewriting our entire history of civilization.
It certainly feels more like Mayer started remembering his groove in this one. It pleasantly felt much more like some of the first nine rather than Redemption or Invasion. For the most part it was an enjoyable read. The only real con to this story was the character Arcturus. I think Mayer was going for a Gandalf character. It didn't work. Instead of sounding like a wise mystic he just came off as an annoying evasive guy. After reading about to three sets of dialogue of Arcturus the reader will figure out to skip it because each interaction between him and a character is them asking a question he won't answer except in some Gollum riddle. Any reader who's read Mayer's works before will know to just skip over it because nothing will be revealed to the end.
This latest addition to the Area 51 series seemed to breath new life into an already amazing story, literally spanning centuries and interstellar space Bob was able to bring another side of the story to light, and along with some old friends being it back full circle.
This latest in the series shows us a very different view of the universe. Bob Meyer has created entire cultures for this series. They are full and wonderful renditions of cultures. Then he adds two totally alien cultures on top of all the human ones. Amazing work and an incredible, complex story he told. Great series to read.
Love the storyline of the battle against the arlia and humans. The existence of the human\arlia hybrids all working together. The ending was unexpected but loved it because it ties with the previous book. Looking forward to the next chapter. Hopefully i won't have to wait too long
I enjoyed this one in the series much better than the last couple. My only issue is the lifting of entire sections off an early book that I found myself skipping, I don't quite understand why they were I included rather than another method of bringing a newsreader up to speed.
I was really lost throughout much of this one. Then after finishing, I realized I had somehow skipped the last two installments, so probably missed the lead up. Argh. I will now go back and try to fill the gap. Still, it was another fun and read and development of the plot lines.
This is going to seem like another backfill of the storyline, but stay with it to the end, there are a lot of important things that eventually come to light. It’s worth the time.
Been reading the Area 51 books for years. This is a departure but traces the history of the airlia and the hubrids. Very enjoyable. I finish,ed this in three days.
