This book reminds of why I started reading K.C. Wells' work in the first place: the woman can write such lovable characters and certainly knows her way around a sex scene. Plus, hello, BRITISH BOYS, we love you!

Denim is an amazingly enjoyable story: sweet but not cheesy, low on the angst, high on the romance, and positively brimming with SCORCHING sex.

Harry is a bear who doesn't know he's a bear. He's lived on his own since his mum passed a few years back. He has low-grade depression and is entirely apathetic toward everything. Harry feels worthless and unattractive, and truly doesn't understand how any bloke, especially one as delicious as Tony, would want to date him.

But Tony loves the way Harry looks. He loves Harry's firm belly, his round arse, his beard, and his furry chest. Despite Tony's reassurances, Harry plays off Tony's advances as a joke.

Initially, that's easy to do, because Tony's flirting borders on harassment. Tony is a builder and whistles at Harry every morning as Harry walks by on his way to work. Harry thinks the whistles are for his female colleague, but, nope, they're all for Harry.

The relationship develops organically as the men begin to spend time together. Harry, reluctant at first, can't help but fall for Tony's charm and easygoing personality. And Tony is an amazing guy; he loves his mama and sister, and wears his heart on his sleeve.

The main conflict is Harry's insecurity about his weight, which leads him to make stupid decisions about his diet. Fortunately, this doesn't lead to major drama or a big breakup, because these men are adults and act like ones too. It's so refreshing to see grown men actually communicating!

Bonus points for a cute kitty, great secondary characters, Tony's magical tongue, a new kitchen, and the BEST epilogue.

Just an FYI, that this isn't a kinky book; it's very sexy, with some seriously naughty & dirty bits, but the denim of the title serves no nefarious purposes. Rather, it refers to Tony's love of jeans: buttery worn-in jeans, clubbing skinnies, denim shorts ... the man doesn't wear anything else. The magic happens when the jeans hit the floor.

If you're a fan of angst-free, sweet books, then this is for you.
It was cute, well written and quite enjoyable.

However, I missed some kind of controversy, some kind of angst (you know me, I like my angst!) and there was plenty of scope for it. I know that's on me, but the plot was highly uneventful. Which on the positive side is quite realistic but wasn't really rocking my boat.

The guys were cute, and I always love a book about body issues (don't most of us have some of these nowadays?). However, I did get marginally bored because everything worked out so easily and beautifully.

Sigh. Old age cynicism is hell.
Just go and enjoy the lightness and don't listen to my rambling.

K.C. Wells at her absolute finest

This is pure Kc, humour, sexiness, British to the core and a really sweet romance with just a hint of spice to keep things interesting.

I loved that this was a romance of two ordinary guys, they're not model perfect, they're not rich or have unusual or high powered jobs. They're just Harry and Tony and they're beautiful together.

The whole Material World series has been a delight and this one's no exception.

From the minute Harry realises the wolf whistling from the building site near his office is directed at him to the gorgeous epilogue, to the cute kitten and Tony's family and friends, this book is a joy.

Harry is thirty-five and thinks he's no longer desirable. A bit pudgy around the middle, he has no illusion that anyone might still be interested in him. He likes his job alright, and convinces himself he's content with his life after moving back to his hometown to look after his mother before she passed away. Still living in her house, still unable to pack away her things, Harry is letting life and love pass him by.

Tony, a construction worker of similar age, sees the somewhat staid Harry and immediately perks up. Or, well, one of his appendages does. But Harry is oblivious, and Tony has to pull out all the stops to convince the other man that he's truly interested.

The author weaves a fabulous tale of two ordinary men living ordinary lives and falling extraordinarily in love.

As the story unfolds, we learn more about the two men - Harry who has let himself go after his mother's death, who likely has low-grade depression, who has basically given up on finding anyone to love him, and who cannot believe that the hunky construction worker is actually whistling at him, and Tony, a hard worker, a good bloke, a kind man, who didn't get that memo and who thinks that Harry is the most delicious bear he's ever come across.

Obviously, someone with low self-esteem such as Harry would be reluctant to start a relationship with a hunky bloke, and their relationship starts off very slowly. And while Tony pulls out all the stops to woo the other man into bed and into his life, Harry looks at himself and decides that eating is overrated and that he should lose a bunch of weight so he's worthy of Tony. Obviously, that doesn't go over too well, and there's a bit of drama but they actually talk about things, like mature men should, and it's not a huge stumbling block.

KC Wells has crafted two realistic characters, and I loved how their romance unfolded. I loved how steadfast Tony was in his beliefs, how freely and courageously he put himself out there to win Harry's heart, and how Harry starts to blossom under Tony's capable hands.

There are sexy times, of course, but all of them repeatedly drove home the point that these men are falling in love, and each bedroom scene was high on their emotional connection. And with each passing day, Tony pulls Harry a bit more out of his shell, away from his safety net, into the light.

Sweet and romantic, with little conflict and honest communication, this was a gorgeous story. I enjoyed every minute reading it, and I think you will too.

Oh, the denim from the title - Tony loves to wear jeans. To work, to dinner, to having a pint, to going dancing, Tony wears denim. And by the book's end, Harry loves to peel Tony out of his denims.

Fabulous.

Harry is overweight, unhappy, and suddenly being wolf-whistled whenever he walks past a construction site. Then he meets Tony. Shenanigans occur.

I have some issues with this book. First of all, Harry's relationship with his weight is, at the beginning, very believable. I say this as a person who struggles with his own weight. But Harry's attitude towards his weight gets nuttier and nuttier: he wants to change himself for Tony, despite the fact that Tony makes it exceedingly clear, again and again, that Harry is perfect the way he is. Like, okay, the book is about appearances, and disordered eating makes sense in this context... but that's not really what happens. It's all just a little too shallow, honestly. Either lean way into the eating issues or don't include them at all, imo.

Another issue: the attitudes and actions of the characters aren't really consistent. Also, my god, the obsession over bears is absolutely nuts. I'm glad the book exists (this genre has FAR too much pretty boy/jock representation), and sure, people like this exist in the real world, but ughhh. I can't stand people who are obsessed with being a "type" in real life, and that's what this book is about, basically.

All of that being said, it was fine. I was not blown away. I won't read it again. I recommend it for people interested in certain tropes/topics: bears, blue-collar workers, cats, incredibly shallow people, instalove.

This story comes after LACE, SATIN, and SILK, in this series. ***** Here we have DENIM, worn by hunky construction worker, Tony.

K. C. Wells gives us a wonderful British romance and it's adorable, steady paced and fun to read. Harry is our bear,

who is still feeling down after his mum's death. It takes hot guy, Tony, who whistles at Harry everyday, to make Harry wake up to the world again. Tony likes Harry's type, a hairy, bearded bear. Tony's family and friends are lively and welcoming.
The guys progress slowly, because Tony knows Harry is worth the wait. Harry has self esteem issues and skips meals, and he and Tony do finally discuss those problems.

The sexy times are red hot, erotic, dirty talking, unbridled and passion filled. Harry steps out of his comfort zone, and life really begins to open up.

I loved this British tale of love. The epilogue had me grinning !
ENJOY !

The fourth book in K.C. Wells’ A Material World series, Denim has a flavor all its own. Incredibly funny, sinfully sexy, and with a lovely message about positive body image, Denim is a thoroughly enjoyable, feel-good romance.

This story comes across beautifully in audio. Seb Yarrick's voice is adorable and just perfect for these characters. He makes the sexy bits so sexy (the way he pronounces tongue is just delicious. He blew my mind in Silk and I’m going to recommend that one in audio too).

This is a fast paced novel, and Mr. Yarrick keeps it rolling along smoothly. Plus, there's a wide variety of British accents in Denim and Mr. Yarrick keeps each one distinct, and he does a wonderful job with Tony's Spanish mother.

Denim is incredibly funny, and Seb Yarrick totally gets Ms. Wells' sense of humor. I love that dry British wit, and the tongue-in-cheek sass. The humor, delicious erotica, and touching, heartfelt message, make Denim a winner!

thank you to the author for an audiobook copy of Denim, the opinions in my review are honest and entirely my own

This is such a sweet, loving story. I can rely on this series to give me fluffy feelings.

Tony Harry are polar opposites. The former is easygoing and nice, the latter is quiet and has low self-steem because he doesn't like the way he looks. Their interactions and later on relationship start slow as Harry has difficulties to open-up to Tony and can't believe he likes him they way he looks (Harry is a hot bear). I really liked the way Harry learns to trust himself more and that Tony supports him every step.

As plots go, this is a very no-drama, low angst, hurt-comfort one. Something as simple as common life issues we all have dealt more than once. The characters are all very likeable and they are not unnecessary problems between Harry and Tom as they don't need it, they are grown-up men after all.

I was utterly delighted by this romance between Harry and Tony.

I love that they have every day jobs and that this love story is character driven with the drama being the conflicts that come when two people link their lives.

Harry is still grieving the loss of his mother and is depressed a bit. Lonely and unhappy with his body but still a thoughtful boss and generous man. I like that all of his aspects are shown.

Tony is a sunny go get 'em kind of guy but loving and observant.

This is a great read that will leave you smiling.

Entertaining enough with an interesting premise. For me, the sweet and no angst made it too predictable. I knew from the get-go how it would end. So I waited. Are we there yet? It was that type of feel for me.

It is of course KC Wells so the writing is good.

Denim is the story of two regular thirty-something men, Tony a construction worker and Harry an office manager. Harry’s not a fun guy at the start. He’s not even all that happy. Content with his life, but a bit stuck. He can’t imagine why anyone would take a second look, much less actually want to go out with him. He has a bit of a self-image problem, knowing he’s let himself go and isn’t the slim-bodied man he used to be. Tony, on the other hand, is gregarious and outgoing and he has his sights set on the beautiful bear who walks past the construction site every day.

Tony’s method for getting Harry’s attention isn’t all that subtle, but he finally gets the man to agree to a date. When Harry gets over himself enough to take a chance on Tony the romance heats up but that brings out a whole new problem when Harry decides to deal with one particular insecurity in a not so bright way.

This is a straight-forward, sexy romance between two regular guys, with regular jobs and regular problems; that’s not to say there is anything dull about it. Tony has a huge heart and likes to have fun. Harry is a bit slower on the uptake, but after spending a bit of time with Tony his personality begins to blossom as well. This is K.C. Wells so of course these two heat up the pages, but this one is all about the romance.

I adored the way Tony slowly coaxes Harry out of his shell. When Harry rejoins the land of the living he finds that he and Tony are a perfect fit. There are a couple of bumps along the way, but no heavy angst. The problems the men have are relatable and are dealt with in a natural way, not drawing things out with unnecessary drama.

There are some fun secondary characters amongst Harry and Tony’s co-workers and Tony’s family, and the Epilogue is just perfect. This is a stand-alone story so you can jump right in even if you haven’t read any of the other Material World books. If you want a low-angst romance, with just the right amount of heat and two lovable MC’s (ripped abs not included) this will be a perfect fit – just like your favorite pair of jeans.

4.5 Stars This was just lovely, a sweet romantic story about two guys, who could really be any two people you know. Harry is rather lonely after spending time caring for his mother before she passed and only seeing the people he works with at the office. I identified with him completely; spending too many nights in front of a TV with bags of chips (or crisps!) mysteriously disappearing every week. He’s baffled when he realizes the wolf-whistles and cat calls from the good looking construction worker are for him. Tony is attracted to bears, gay Bears to be precise, and Harry is a perfect specimen to him. What follows is a warm-hearted account of two very human characters falling in love, with a few stumbles along the way.

I thought the pacing was excellent, as there are brief asides with other characters filling in pauses between the men being together. Secondary characters aren’t drawn too deeply but I think one or two may be subjects for future stories in the series. There’s a few sex scenes that are pretty hot but they don’t take over the plot. I do like a thrilling or complex book but this was written perfectly for what it is, a purely romantic tale about two average adults, experiencing the ups and downs of falling in love. There are few who do it better than K.C. Wells. It’s not contrived drama, no hidden traumas, no silly breakups or non-communication issues. I really enjoyed the change of pace, feeling a bit like I met someone new who still offered the comfort of an old friend. Recommended.

KC Wells has hit my favorite hot buttons with this story—two sweet older guys, one a sexy construction worker, and the other a bear who has no concept of his own appeal. Both in their thirties but with two diametrically different views of the world, when Tony spots a cute bear headed into his nearby work site, he has to wolf whistle, right? Too bad it takes days for Harry to realize he’s the object of the whistles coming from the construction site where the cute guy with the muscles is working.

This story is a journey of discovery for Harry, who begins as a guy with a poor outlook on life—dead end job in a dead end neighborhood with no good future prospects. Forget men—his clubbing days are long gone since he moved back home to take care of his ailing mother who passed away a while ago. He hasn’t even cleaned out her closets and family memorabilia. Why bother?

Tony, on the other hand, recognizes his value and enjoys his family, though he’d rather not still be living with his mother at age 30. But he’s full of life and he loves a bear—specifically the one he spots every day, so he sets his heart on Harry and won’t take no for an answer. Fortunately, it works, and though it takes time, he eventually convinces Harry that he really wants him and desires him exactly as he is. Too bad Harry’s self-esteem is so low that he can’t help believing that Tony would like him better if he were thinner.

That plan doesn’t work well, thankfully, and by the end of the story, it’s evident that this couple is truly meant for one another. I appreciated the author’s treatment of Harry’s issues, not making light of his very real fears, but showing the consequences of the actions he chose to make changes. Tony is a sweetheart with a hoard of friends, many of whom we meet and get to enjoy, and Tony’s persistence, love, and support bring Harry to the peace and contentment he never believed he’d have.

I recommend this to those who enjoy MM romance among the over 30 group, especially those that feature characters struggling with personal issues and self-esteem.

A pleasant read

This was sort of a quiet, everyday romance. No car chases, guns, bodyguards, or even major angst. And you know what? That’s nice once in a while.

I did find myself getting frustrated with Harry’s constant negative self-talk and misguided efforts to change, but once Tony caught on and they talked, it was all settled satisfactorily. And the two of them were very sweet together, and had some pretty scorching moments in the bedroom.

I think my favorite thing was Tony’s unabashed admiration of Harry’s bear-like build; he loved the very thing Harry was ashamed of, and it was super cute that they met by Tony whistling at Harry every day when he walked past. We all could use someone like that! :)

Oh, thank you, thank you KC Wells! Feel free to keep them coming this hot and sweet. The combo of two adorable guys who also are dynamite in bed does it for me every single time. And that is what Tony and Harry are. For all his hang outs, Harry leaves them all at the bedroom door. He’s like another person when he is in bed with Tony and boy, they are scorching together.

I liked and disliked Harry all at the same time to start with...then I began to want to hit him over his hard head with something equally as hard. He is a man that is so busy totaling up the things that he’s lost, or believes he's lost, that he can't see how good his life really is. I loved the character of Tony from the first time we met him, leaning on the fence waiting to whistle at Harry when he came by on his way to his office. Harry was confused, bewildered and dumbfounded by Tony's behavior. He wondered why would this gorgeous man, "God's Gift" to every gay man on Earth, would want to waste his time with him? Tony doesn't see the same things that Harry sees when he looks in the mirror. Harry sees a 35-year-old "bear" who could stand to lose a few pounds...a grown man who still lives in the house his mother left him, the very one he grew up in... a man that is pretty much a loner who has few friends because he doesn't encourage anyone to try to know him...all for the same reasons that he can't understand Tony's attention. Tony sees things so much differently when he looks at Harry. He sees only the best things and wants more than anything to help Harry accept and love the man he is today and perhaps let him love him in return. I thought "Good luck with that, Tony!" I could see right away that Harry actually didn't like himself...at all, so he thinks, why would anyone else? I loved the way Tony looked at the world…and at Harry. Tony is so secure in his heart, body and mind...no apologies here, nor are any needed. Harry was never a 'bad" man. He was always ready to help everyone and was very sweet about it. It was just himself that he had this dislike for. This story had me holding my breath to see what crazy thing Harry was going to do to next to "improve" himself. What he finally tried nearly killed him. Tony’s determination to be a gentleman as he courts Harry and seeing Harry learn to love himself as he falls in love with Tony made me smile.... A LOT! The story is beautiful and sweet as well as being relatively angst free, which I liked even more. I'll just say that Tony and Harry are a great deal happier at the end of the story than they were at the start. A brief word about this author. I first read K.C. Wells work in a series that she co-wrote with Parker Williams called "Collars and Cuffs". That series, to this day, remains my absolute favorite "read again anytime" series. I'm now busy collecting anything that has her name on it. I'm especially looking forward to her newest series, "Second Sight". I can't be the only person that reads M/M romances, although it feels like I might be:)...but if you are a reader of M/M Romances or if you can just accept the genera, I think you will come to love them as much as I do.

God I just loved everything about this book. Super sweet but not OTT, real characters, imperfect HOT MC's, incredibly sweet yet realistic love story. Gosh this book was just everything I looking for in a read right now. Harry and Tony at just great together. This book is written so well, little by little throughout the book you experience through great sex scenes and date scenes how great they are for each other. The journey of Harry's personality evolving as he becomes more and more comfortable with himself and the possibilities of what a life with Tony could and would be like. Just a really good one for me. I couldn't stop reading it until I got a solid HEA because these two stole my heart.

Denim is a most adorable story. It is almost a study in contrasts, especially when the story begins. Harry is so very down on himself. He can’t see the good or the beautiful in himself and refuses to believe anyone else might see him differently.

Tony, on the other hand, is a good-natured bloke with the biggest heart. And he knows a beautiful bear when he sees one. He doesn’t give up easily either, which is just as well because it Harry is slow to acknowledge him and even slower to take him seriously when he expresses an interest in Harry.

What follows is a most wonderful description of Harry crawling/being coaxed out of his shell and starting to believe—in Tony. In himself. And eventually, in the two of them together. It is impossible not to fall for Tony—hard. He’s determined without being pushy. He has a big and loud mouth which doesn’t quite manage to disguise his generous heart. His concern for and interest in all of who Harry is had me smiling most of my way through this book.

When the story starts, Harry is rather glum. He doesn’t really like himself and that makes him stand-offish. It is only as Tony teases him out of his shell that we realise that Harry has a heart at least as big as Tony’s. But it transformations don’t happen over-night and some of Harry’s decisions as he started to fall for Tony were hard for me to read. I have to admit I found myself screaming “stop being stupid” at him on more than one occasion. Which of course only meant I cared even more, and smiled even bigger when he at last came to his senses (with Tony’s assistance…of course).

Before the previous paragraph makes you think this is an angsty read, let me reassure you. While there are a few soul-searching moments in this story, overall I would call this a delightful, charming, heartwarming, and uplifting story. And that is before I mention the picture perfect epilogue.

Suffice to say that Denim is a very worthy addition to the A Material World series. And while this story completely stands on its own, I do recommend the three earlier titles as wholeheartedly as I do this book.

If you like sweet and spicy you will love this story. Denim is about a sexy denim-clad builder and a sweet recruitment worker.
Harry is a good boss at the recruitment office.all his employees like and respect him. He is sad and lonely after his mother's death, living alone in the old house she left him. He doesn't go out because at 35, a little overweight and no longer the fit man he was in his twenties he thinks he is undesirable.

Tony is Harry's opposite. He is strong, fit and confident and goes out of his way to get what he wants and that includes Harry. He whistles at first but Harry thinks it is for his female co=worker Deb, until one evening at the pub Tony introduces himself and asks him out. Harry doesn't make it easy though and when he realizes Tony likes him he takes drastic measure to look better.

Wow oh wow this story was so good! I loved both Tony and Harry and there were lots of interesting secondary characters as well. Though the story is fairly predictable it is still amazing. I couldn't put it down once I started. The characters are sweet and adorable and the sex is very hot! The story is also very realistic and relatable.
If you are looking for a fun, flirty story, that is sweet and spicy, has lots of feels, charming English dialogue, and settings, A sexy builder, a sweet bear and toss in a cute kitten for good measure you will love this!

What KC excels at is writing mature romance. There aren't gimmicks or unbelievable hurtles for Harry and Tony to get over. Real life hang ups with real life consequences and support. This was a smooth romance to read. Tony is constantly a good giggle but with heart. SO much heart. And that is exactly what Harry needs. Lost and a little alone is Harry. But if he can get out of his own way, Tony is there to love him. I just love that these two had what I call real life issues, Self doubt. No matter your age we all question ourselves sometimes and finding strength together and allowing yourself to learn to love yourself is a feat sometimes. Harry and Tony are a great example of that. So sweet and with a whole lot of heart these two just made my night a lovely read.
