Stanley drops out of agricultural college to join the Navy, and is shipped off to a space station known as the Pinwheel to complete his training as a UNN Marine. There he meets Raz, an unruly alien who he will be forced to befriend if he wants to complete the program.
A well-paced and very enjoyable sci-fi romance set on a space station where recruits train for battle against a seemingly never-ending army of alien bugs. Our two main characters are Stanley, a young man who just dropped out of college to join the Marines, and Raz, an alien cat woman who is taller and stronger than most humans could ever hope to be. Despite Raz’s strength, she and other members of her species still struggle during training due to the hierarchical society they were raised in. I initially wasn’t really a fan of how Raz acted towards Stanley, with some of their earlier scenes together bordering on being dubious consent. Thankfully, these discomforting moments didn’t escalate too far, though. This is very much a personal preference rather than anything wrong with the story itself. I’m aware some readers might be into that kind of thing, so YMMV. I’m honestly in awe of Snekguy’s writing — it’s descriptive and engaging all at once, with a keen eye for worldbuilding. There are a lot of long, wordy paragraphs, but I found myself speeding through them like they were nothing. It flows so well and makes for a delightful reading experience.
I decided to listen to this audiobook on a whim. I found it intriguing and I really enjoy space Station stories. I was happily surprised sure some of the writing is a little awkward, but I don’t think it detracts from the actual story itself. Definitely hits a cozy vibe with action. It’s written from the male perspective and sounds like a male perspective. It was a nice quick read and I recommend it if you’re looking for something in a slump or trying something new. If I were to describe it in a single sentence: space station romance between new recruits, a human man and an Amazonian sized wild cat of a female.
Found on a recommendation and glad I gave it a go. This is a really cool story and a great start to a series I have no idea where it wok go. Epic in scale and a galactic conflict, it is full of action and troubles between the various species is great to see. I imagine that it would not always be roses when two new species are trying to integrate.
The story wasn’t bad, but it just didn’t hold my attention.
The best way I can describe the stories by this author is that they are stories I wished I liked more. Like the writing and world building are good. He has a story to tell. However I can never finish his stories.
If anything, I keep coming back because I hope I find a story he has written that I will actually like and really get into. I just haven’t found it yet.
More specifically this story seems to be the first, or at least the start of this universe.
The pace of this story is fast in the sense that the relationship happens too fast. The MC goes from hating the FMC to falling for her way to fast and undeservingly either I might add.
Her character is just not something I can get behind.
And the smut, was real rape-y. The fetish here is large woman forcing herself onto a guy that physically can’t fight back.
I don’t want it to seem like a bad story, it’s just, it wasn’t for me.

A marginally fun read with super weird pacing. Female lead goes from a psychopathic bully that overpowers, injures and nearly rapes the male lead to an emotionally vulnerable literal pussycat in the space of a chapter. The male lead goes from being terrified and hating the female lead to literally "I've always loved you" in the space of a few paragraphs. Zero progression, zero character development, zero exploration of why either character might be emotionally attracted to the other. If the plot summary for your novel is just "man scaroused, fucks cat" you probably had a bit more work to do.
It's a pretty good read and I understand what the author was going for, especially how the relationship between Raz and Stanley changes. Still, as another reviewer has said, "it just didn't happen as smoothly or believably as the writer intended" and instead, I disagreed with Stanley's action quite a bit which soured my experience with the rest of the book. I still finished it, so there is enough for me to like it.
Most difficult part about this book, was the change of Raz (Fem protagonists) from angry, dominating feline to this sweet, emotional alien. It just didn't happen as smoothly or believeably as writer intended, so that felt weird.
This wasn't my first book from Snek Guy and I'm not sure if this is closer to his first published works, but it has that kind of feeling.
The only thing I didn't like about this book was I got the audiobook, and realized I gotta read the rest physically since this is the only one of 30 that is one. I can't do a sultry voice that good lol.
If you're not opposed to some mutual "learning" between two species, where the woman is basically tall and buff Cheetah from Wonder Woman pick it up.
Similar to developing working relationships with alien species in the Mass Effect series. Various races joining a coalition against a common enemy, and civil disputes happen that need to be quelled by the representatives.
Tons of great concepts and an awesome execution. While there are a few flaws here and there, and I can't say I'd openly recommend it to anyone becauseof some of its content, I can't help but love this story.
