In New Every Morning: 365 Days Of Worship, editor Dr. Phil Barfoot has compiled the writing of 118 premiere worship pastors, ministers of music, and Christian university professors across America to provide us with a unique devotional experience.

The Bible teaches us that God’s mercies are new every morning in Lamentations 3:22-23. This undated book of daily devotionals is designed to help individuals, choirs, worship teams and small groups experience this first-hand.

As you read each worship-based devotional, you’ll find a passage of Scripture to meditate upon, questions to help you apply Biblical principles to your life, and a prayer to lead you into worship.

What I like most about New Every Morning is the opportunity to read and reflect on the writings of so many contemporary spiritual leaders reflecting on so many different aspects of worship. For instance, worship pastor John Stegerten encourages us to look past our momentary circumstances, focus on Christ, and reflect Him in our lives in his devotional, A Life That Points To God.

What I didn’t like about this book was the paper quality (particularly for a book designed for daily use) and the small print. While there is plenty of room in the book to make personal notes, the paper does not make it inviting to do so.

For this reason alone, I would hesitate to give this as a gift, but I do recommend this for personal use.

I got this book for review from B&H/Lifeway review program

This devotional is amazing, a right on time devotional for me. I like that it's written by 118 individuals in the area of (worship pastors, ministers of music, and Christian university professors across America). I love that each day's devotional starts with a focus verse, then the person's thought and revelations received and ends with thought provoking questions and a prayer.

There is one person's devotional style of writing that stood out to me, it's Scott C. White Sr. He follows the style of writing as others and adds something more. He uses the H.E.A.R method, which is developed by Robby Gallaty, the founder of Replicate Ministries and the scripture used are either two or three verses. Here's the breakdown of H.E.A.R:

H represents Highlight, which prompts readers to highlight a passage from the daily reading that speaks to them.

E represents Explain, which prompts the reader to write out in their own words explaining what the passage is saying to them.

A represents Apply, which ask "how does this apply to my life?

R represents Respond, which prompts the reader to write a simple prayer

Another thing I like about this devotional is that on Sundays and Wednesdays, the devotional topic has thoughts that are designed for those in music and worship ministry (Am not in either of those ministry, but I appreciate these topics and perspective because I love to praise God through music).

Did I mention it's a 365 day devotional? I am very excited to have a devotional like this. Grab yourself a copy.

Daily devotions are an important part of worship, so a devotional written by worship pastors, leaders, and professors has a certain appeal. Phil Barfoot has drawn together over 100 of his friends and acquaintances, all of whom fall into those categories and asked them to contribute to this collection.
The daily devotions in New Every Morning: 365 Days of Worship, (B&H publishing, 2019) follow the standard format: a verse, a couple of paragraphs showing how it can apply to a believer’s life, and closing with a prayer. One extra in this book is the inclusion of a couple of questions or statements designed to help the reader reflect more deeply on what has just been read. Barfoot also states in the preface, that the readings for each Wednesday and Sunday include some thoughts aimed at worship leaders and their teams.
I found the selection of passages to be an interesting, but pretty appropriate, collection. Each passage leant itself well to a discussion of worship. Having so many different contributors makes for an interesting read. Trying to read all the devotionals for a week in one setting would be confusing because of the difference in writing styles, but as a daily reading plan, it works.
I would have liked to see a list of scripture references, because I think that there are some things that would be useful for any pastor in sermon prep, but without the list of references, those things might be hard to find at a later date.
As a member of the publisher’s bloggers program, I received a copy of this book in exchange for posting a review. I was not required to write a positive review.

365 bite size chunks of worship that stick with you all day. I love this collection of work, with 118 contributors, I have to give credit for the strong messages throughout. Collections like these tend to have a few powerful points, with tons of filler, but I find myself engaged with this devotional and glancing ahead to see what's in store for the next day!

I love the floppy, pulpy paperback that was chosen for this book. Its a comfortable size, enjoyable to read, and gentle on the eyes.
There are several versions of the Bible featured in the devotional. I'm not sure if that with each individual pastors' preference, or to reach every preference, but I prefer materials commit to one version, even if it's not my preferred, which I'll open up on my Bible to read with.

Lastly, I don't understand the worship and choir, group aspect of this devotional. It's functioning well as a personal devotional. It would make a great gift to family or friends.

I love devotional books, so I was excited to review this book, which is a compilation of devotions written by various worship pastors, university professors, and ministers of music. The book is designed for use with individuals, as well as worship teams, making it unique from other devotional books I’ve read in the past.
The setup is pretty standard, as each entry starts with a Scripture passage, a message, reflection questions, and a prayer.
