You'll love this vampire series because every reverse harem reader loves a strong heroine and multiple alpha heroes
DNF 54%. I really wanted to enjoy this series, it had so much potential. I could overlook the mystery, although I felt she was dragging some things on way too much. However, her characters, especially Malachi, were too inconsistent. Mal is supposedly a fearless adrenaline junkie, unbothered by society’s opinions and coolheaded in most situations. She enters an elite school for spies (and possibly assassins?). Yet far from honing her decision making and critical thinking skills, she seems to become more and more reckless and impulsive. She makes stupid decisions, putting herself at risk for no reason. I mean, really, you just escaped a bunch of guess and already had to shoot one man who wanted to take advantage of you, yet you won’t stay in a locker room because it smells like sweat and you want to snoop? By all means then, go join the crowd of rowdy, aggressive criminals, most of whom have little to no respect for women. You have a gun, what could possibly go wrong 🙄. Which again brings me to her spy training. She’s only been there a few weeks, sure, but shouldn’t she have learned at least some basic fighting skills and defensive maneuvers by now? She can barely hold a sword, yet they’re sending her out on missions alone? And I love the idea of Miss Tuse, but we hardly see her at all. She’s supposed to be a badass spymaster, so one would think she’d be charismatic or dangerous. Instead she’s often described as an uptight woman who mainly communicates via scowls and disapproving looks. I understand Sargon’s mother is a huge threat to the country and important to the storyline, but Miss Tuse is so much more interesting, I wish she had more “screen time.” Overall, I just felt no connection to the characters. The main character seemed to have inconsistent traits and while I guess she was supposed to have instant chemistry with the men, they spend so little time interacting that it’s hard to see a relationship building. And Mal is not really anything special. She’s told repeatedly that if she weren’t Rayce’s daughter she would be dead/punished/kicked out. Instead of appreciating her luck and working hard to learn the skills offered to her, she constantly complains about her training and explicitly makes decisions she knows are not intelligent. Instead of growing throughout the book, it feels like she’s becoming more immature since book 1, changing in mentality from a more mature 21 year old to a childish 17 year old.

This would have gotten more than 3 stars but this RH series is very slow moving. The secrets just keep piling up one after the other. The heroine isn't one I expected. She just seems weak and always getting into trouble, never listens and isn't able to protect herself. Now the males are pretty on cue with their roles. I'm hoping the next installment will pick up pace. I'm not into instant love and frisky scenes either but neither do I enjoy a series that states it's one thing but takes forever to actually get there. This first book hardly touched on the RH theme. It was more of a history and character building. I would like to see more interaction between the MC and more feelings instead of the totally slow build up and sentences here and there of how much they all want her and how she wants them. There's just not much development with the characters feelings for each other. There's also some editing needed with missing words, misused words, and spelling errors.
Plot is slow and kind of bland. Not enough information and the writing left something to be desired. However, my main issue was the fact that the main character didn't develop at all throughout the first 2 books. Also what irritates me is she can't stick up for herself, with no spunk, she literally let's the guys walk all over her and knowingly lie to her. She's also very stupid and makes very bad decisions. If I were miss tule I would've kicked her out. A lot of buildup on the secrets in the first 2 books yet nothing has been revealed. Also, considering everything in a book should have a bigger purpose, her past as an (engineer)? Has yet to play a part.
Here we get to know Mac, and I just don't like her as a heroine.
She ventures into danger on her own (She can't fight). Stubborn and a little arrogant for no reason. And over compensates, for what? I don't know.
Their conversation about all of them being together went a little like this "You love all of us equally? Ok. I'll talk to the guys and make this work."
Ridiculously slow burn. If you are interested in that type of thing, maybe in book three but I wouldn’t hold my breath at this point. This book was just like the first in that you get a bunch of “I can’t tell you.” Very little is cleared up and the story is not really moving. Malachi is doing more but none of it is smart. The whole thing has become annoying. And now I’ve wasted my day on two of these stories.
This book was a surprise! Way more to it then expected. And way better. The depth and world building is phenomenal! Intrigue, murder, gore, spies, romance, fighting...with swords and guns. A lot of great stuff packed between the digital covers of these books!
The push and pull of the relationships between Mac and the guys is intense. I'm super curious to see where they all end up during this next installment.
