Is it Reel Love or Real Love?

Hollywood

The moment I laid eyes on Finn Parker's headshot, I knew that if this guy could act, I wanted him for the hero role in the film being made from my book, Fleeing an August Moon.

The tall, blond, and ruggedly handsome actor looked exactly like the picture I'd seen in my head the entire time I was writing the book.

The studio, however, had different thoughts on a leading man. Box Office crusher, Maverick Dailey, made it clear that he wanted the role. The producers, studio, and everyone involved were thrilled to score such a celebrity. Well, everyone except me.

And it's my vote that counts since, according to my contract, I get final say on casting. Maverick is amazing, yet I'm just not sure...

It certainly didn't help that Finn Parker and I seemed destined to cross paths. We ran into each other all over Hollywood. And the more time we spent together, the more the sparks between us flew. We had an intense chemistry, something I'd only ever read about in books like mine.

Which made me wonder, was I really falling for Finn or just living out a fantasy with a red-blooded, live version of my hot hero character?

It's easy to confuse fiction for reality in Hollywood. Everything is not as it seems in this town.

Not to mention, Finn's life would forever change if he landed the role. Which made me question how good of an actor he really was? Was he interested in me, or the role I had the power to give him?

Is this Real Love or just Reel Love?

Reel Love is destined to be THE feel-good summer read of 2019! Julie Richman has crafted a truly clever romance between an author and the man who would ultimately be her muse, both for her upcoming movie and for her love life. Frankie and Finn have that kind of connection that both thought was forever out of reach and as their lives go from professional to personal and everything in between, it's just a matter of time before the notion of a reel love becomes one that is all too real.

Told in alternating POV's, watching as both Frankie and Finn tiptoe around their attraction was truly sweet. Both with insecurities not shared with anyone else, seeing how they could eventually open up to one another proved to me these two were meant to be. But the secrecy they must continue while decisions are made about the movie is hard on both of them but happily for us, it leads to some very sexy times that definitely made me smile. The humor between Frankie and Finn just adds to their allure and all of their scenes together were pure gold. Add to the mix, the very suave and charming Maverick Dailey and our girl Frankie has her hands full with decisions she often can't believe she has to make, both professionally and personally.

With additional characters like the afore-mentioned Mav, who proves to be more than just a handsome face, Sebastian and a horse who steals the show more than once, I honestly could not get enough of this incredible book. There is such a realness to Richman's stories and something about the down-to-earth nature of Frankie and Finn simply hit home for me. The entire reading experience had a comfort factor that is rare to find these days.

The attention to detail is always welcomed in a Richman book and she once again gives us just what we need to know about how the process of picking actors for a movie occurs. I really enjoyed the scenes where Frankie sits and watches as Finn and other hopefuls for the lead in the movie of her bestselling novel, take turns giving their all. And more importantly, I loved being in her head as she scribbles down her thoughts about each one and I felt like I was there too! All of the 'Hollywood backstage' info added just the right touch to this book and it gave the story that little bit more I'm always searching for.

I loved this book. There is just something about the way Julie Richman writes where the words flow effortlessly and I'm immediately swept away in her wonderful imagination right from the start. This well-crafted book features outstanding characters and a slow-burn love story combined with the perfect mix of humor, tenderness and passion. My heart is beyond full and my affection for Frankie and Finn and yes, even Mav and the unexpected kind of love, friendship and heartache they all experience is overflowing.

Put Reel Love at the top of your summer reading list. It will undoubtedly make you smile, swoon and sigh over and over again and to me there is nothing much better than that.

A huge 5 stars!

Just okay for me. The story didn't really suck me in and I found my self skimming at times. I would have liked to really get to know the characters but everything felt on the surface to me.

Reel Love by Julie A. Richman
Standalone Contemporary Romance
4.5 Stars

I love books where the movie star falls for the regular girl, and I love books that tie into the book world. Reel Love by Julie A. Richman was a perfect blend of both. Its unique storyline is so timely and relevant, and Julie’s beautiful and unique descriptions kept me fully engaged throughout the story.

Francesca ‘Frankie’ Simonelli is a Texas girl who wrote a book that is on everyone’s lips. “Fleeing an August Moon” is a romance that crosses the Mexican border and it is being made into a movie. The book was so popular that Frankie was given the final say on casting, which is almost unheard of in the industry. This Texas girl is swimming with the sharks in Hollywood—hopefully, she won’t get eaten (well….. 😉 ).

Finn Parker is struggling in Hollywood. He’s had some good roles, but not enough to make him a known household name. He’s a long-shot for the role because the studio wants a big name, but he is desperate for the part. When Frankie sees the actors auditioning, she immediately sees her vision of the hero. Finn IS her hero that was made up in her head.

The studio is pushing for Hollywood superstar Maverick Dailey. She knows that he will be box office gold, but he isn’t the “Griffin” she saw in her head, despite being real and charming AF in real life.

When she meets Finn for the audition, there is immediate chemistry between the two, but it is difficult to tell if the attraction is for him, or because he embodies the character she wrote and fell in love with. As they get closer, she realizes she likes the man himself.
“Mmm, that is good. Gotta love a man who can act, cook, decorate, and is damn good in bed.”

Reel Love felt like an epic saga. It felt long (but not too long), detailed and satisfying, and there were a lot of light and fun moments.
"I’m sitting here half-naked with you eating post-coital cookies.”
She laughs and repeats, “Post-coital,” clearly amused.
“So, maybe we should just refer to them from here on out as fucking cookies. As in, I brought you your favorite fucking cookies.”

There was also a perfect amount of HEAT.
“You taste dangerous tonight,” she comments, as I walk her into the bedroom.

As we get a detailed behind-the-scenes look at making the movie, the lines get muddled between real-life and reel-life. This book was filled with swoony and sexy moments, real feelings, wonderful secondary characters, great dialog, and real emotion.
“We have a story. I like that.”

Likes:

•Detailed writing that really lets you experience the story.
•Very well-written, it doesn’t seem like a book that could have been written in a month or two.
•The book within the book.
•Very relevant to the book world.
•Brought out all sorts of emotion.
•Great sexy times.
•A little cameo crossover.
•I loved Maverick and I hope we get his story next.

Dislikes:

•I would have liked a lot more of the book within the book, “Fleeing an August Moon”.

The Down & Dirty:
Julie A. Richman marches to her own drum. She is mature, and a very skilled and talented writer and it shows in her detailed prose. Reel Love sucks you in with very visual descriptions and I felt like no pertinent detail was left out. It’s relevant both to the book world and current events (though I would have liked even more of that). Reel Love had everything I love in a Hollywood romance: the cut-throat industry stuff, the swoony stuff, the sex, the exes, the paparazzi, the laughs and the emotion. Reel Love brought it all, and I am really hoping this turns into more than just this book, because I’d love to revisit in the future.
Rating: 4.5 Stars, 4 Heat

Reel Love is Julie A. Richman's newest fun, flirty, unique love story. I've been a fan of Julie's since her first book and she was the first author I stalked on facebook! I still stalk her and I won't even apologize for it! Her writing is top notch and her stories are always unique with characters we fall in love with. Francesca wrote a book and it became a best seller and now it's going to be made into a movie. As the author she gets the final say in casting and when she sees Finn Parker it's like he jumped out of her head and into the audition. He's exactly how she wrote him. And it's messing with her head. Especially when she keeps running into him all over town and actually gets to know him. It's hard to separate her character from the real man. Finn wants this job. No, he needs it. Getting the lead in Fleeing and August Moon would change his life. He didn't expect to like the author so much. Frankie is the realest woman he's met in years. She eats actual food and indulges in dessert and can't stand avocado toast! She's a breath a fresh air and that's just what Finn's life needed and he didn't even know it. But he doesn't even know where to draw the line. He wants this role, but he wants Frankie. Can he have both? Will Frankie be able to separate the fact from the fiction and choose the best man for her Griffin? I loved this story! I felt for Frankie because I have a few book boyfriends and if I ran into someone who looked just like them I would freak out! But she's a professional and she's determined to do what's best for her film adaptation of her book. I loved watching Finn remember his real self. He's three men in one and he's been hiding for far too long. Frankie didn't even realize she helped him decide he needed to make some changes inside himself. Reading the book and preparing for the role showed him that he wanted to be more like her character, Griffin. Get his soul back. Become who he was before he became Finn Parker. Frankie and Finn have undeniable chemistry, but so many obstacles in their way. In a place like Hollywood, how can you tell what's real? Who's real? How can you trust your heart when your head sees so many different things? Frankie and Finn's love story just made me happy! The have flirty banter, sexy chemistry and a deeper connection than either of them even thought they would find. Overall, I loved every word and didn't want it to end. This is why Julie is one of my favorite authors. She's in a class all by herself!

“But the reality is, I’m sitting here half-naked with you eating post-coital cookies.”

“Mmm, that is good. Gotta love a man who can act, cook, decorate, and is damn good in bed.”

"I say if you don’t kiss me right here and now, I’m going to die.”
“That’s my girl.”

A Top Pick For 2019
Why am always surprised by a Julie Richman book? When each and everytime this women catapults me into a fantastic whole new world, where I become completely immersed. Reel love is her latest book and has the same true to life feel of her others. If you are a Julie fan, you are in for a treat. If you are a newbie, you will be transported and forever changed. You will become a true fan. Julie doesn't just create characters, she brings them to LIFE! Her visions can be seen and felt by all of us.

Reel Love takes us to Hollywood. Where we meet the most interesting people....
Some are trying to live the dream.
(but at what cost?)
While others are established and even grateful for what they have. They are simply trying to give back. Then you have the opportunist. Always looking for the next person to latch onto.....
All very different,
yet each and every one of them has something to say. All vying for the spotlight. The next big break...
All were front and center throughout the book.

Francesa Simonalli is an establish author. Who now finds herself in a precarious situation. Her most popular book in the hands of Hollywood. Shortly, it will be brought to the big screen. This Texan chick has no idea what she is in for.... Would Hollywood eat her up and spit her out? Oh hell no, this girl has heart! She is determined and smart. (This is one girl I need to be friends with.) This book is her baby and it's casting is up to her!

When Finn Parker auditioned for the roll
as her leading man, Frankie was in awe. He was her creation brought to life.... Aesthetically perfect! But behind closed doors, he was also everything that excited and challenged her. Their relationship went from businness to pleasure "Reel" quick. Their dialogue was so refreshing and authentic. I felt like I was a fly on the wall observing. One of the best parts about them, there was no BS. Frankie always pushed Finn wanting to see the real man behind his Hollywood persona.
In return he showed her what she's been missing.... I loved these two sooooo much!

The relevant subplot in which the story revolves around had my heart in knots. Griff and Gabriela are the characters from Frankie's book. The are a modern day Romeos and Juliette.
I need their full story!

The secondary characters in this book held their own!! Maverick Daily is Hollywood royalty. He will steal your heart. He is so much more then Hollywood... His beautiful heart had me in tears. (Julie, Please start writing his story.)

Reel Love is a love story everyone can relate to... it's reality meets Hollywood! It's fun, sexy and orginal. It's about meeting that someone who makes you look into your soul and totally completes you.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This book is so different and good. I loved that it was about and author and the guy she considered her muse the entire time she was writing her book. Now it is being made into a movie and she will end up eith the ultimate control of who ends up playing the leading role. She wants Finn form the moment she sees his photos. He is perfect from what she had pictured in her head the entire time she was writing the book but a big time Hollywood draw wants the role and she just still can't picture the firlm without Finn being the leading man. This is a story set in Hollywood were everything is perfect or is it really? Do you really know what is real and what is not. Is this attraction and the time they spend together real or is it just for the movie and Finn really has not interest at all in her? You have to read to find out but this book is so much fun. I enjoyed every single second.

Reel Love is Julie Richman's newest contemporary romance release.

I was hooked by the synopsis of this book - a romance book being turned into a movie. It's as though real life is being written into a book.

Frankie has the final say in who is casted for her book, something that is not the norm in Hollywood. Finn wants to land the role since it is being herald as the next box office smash. But to what lengths is Finn willing to go? And will Frankie mix up who she sees in her head as her Griffin and not the one who truly fits the role?

Julie does a great job of bringing life to her characters and their stories. Finn and Frankie are both placed into a positions that neither anticipated and they are both uncertain on how to navigate them. I love that they both have internal debates over their decisions, what they see and feel; it makes them all the more real to readers.

Frankie was breath of fresh air for Finn. He's so used to the Hollywood type and everyone out for themselves; Frankie showed him how things used to be before he got caught up in the Hollywood scene. She brought out what he was hiding from everyone. I enjoyed watching Finn's journey of finding himself again but I do wish we would have gotten more with his father and not just a rushed version.

Reel Love is told from both Finn and Frankie's POVs so it really helps to see what they are both thinking and going through. It helps add another level to the story. While I enjoyed watching things play out between the two of them, I have to admit it hard for me to decipher between lust and love with them. They physical attraction was obvious, but anything beyond that was hard to believe. I felt more from Frankie than I did from Finn so it was hard to understand his true feelings (again maybe more fleshed out with this reuniting with his father might have helped this too).

Overall, this book had all the elements that we love about Julie's books - characters that are honest and real, a storyline that is easy to love. I loved the ending and I really hope that we get a book about Maverick.

5 Star review of Reel Love by Julie A Richman

Julie A Richman is a new author to me and I have to say that I loved Reel Love from the first to the last page. The story she wove reeled me in hook, line and sinker and I could not put it down. It had such an interesting blurb that I couldn’t help but jump at the opportunity to read an ARC and review.

To Frankie Simonelli, Finn Parker is exactly who she envisioned as Griffin Chase when she wrote the character. Finn knows that if he can land this role, his career will finally move to the next level; however, there are obstacles that stand in their way.

Although the studio wants to cast Maverick Dailey, a headliner in the lead role, Frankie remains firm that Finn is the right person for the role. Can she stand up to the pressure of the studio and even her own agent? Or will she crumble?

Reel love is an interesting behind the scenes story about choices, making a movie, miss understandings and second chances, of dreams that can and do come true. The writing was strong and you could not help but be captivated by the characters and the story line.

The ending was absolutely perfect, totally romantic and swoon worthy. I loved this book and cannot wait to read more from this author.

Frankie Simonelli is living a dream she never imagined. Watching her words come to life on screen is at the top of every author’s wish list -- and she gets final say in all casting. When she sees Finn Parker’s headshot she knows she has found her Griffin. But the studio wants to hire Hollywood hot shot Maverick Dailey. Both men would be great in the roll (and both want it) but she can only choose one.

This was a fun twist on a Hollywood romance. I loved Frankie’s view of Hollywood and couldn’t help but feel bad for her as she tried to navigate the very different world that Hollywood was compared to her experiences in Texas. Her dedication to her story is incredible and she only wants what is best for the show, but she also has to balance what is best for the show with what she wants for herself as well. And in the world of Hollywood glitz and glam, it is easy to be swept up in the romance of the story rather than reality.

Finn was an interesting character. He clearly wanted the role and regularly hinted that there was a lot riding on the role, but it took a long time for his motivations to really come out. When we did learn why it was so important to him to play Griffin, I felt like it was not as big of a reason as I had expected. There were actually a few moments during the conclusion of the story that I wish had been fleshed out a little further, to give more weight to those aspects of the story.

Maverick’s addition had me wondering at times if this would turn into a love triangle, and for the sake of length, I’m glad it stayed only on the edge of that trope. Maverick really was a good guy, and I liked getting to know him a little bit more (and maybe he can have his own book later?!) but I am glad that the romantic angle stayed focused on Finn and Frankie.

I loved the little Easter Eggs of character/location cameos sprinkled into Reel Love. I found Julie as she was publishing the Needing Moore series, so have been following her (and her characters) for some time. Seeing them pop up again and again makes each new story from her feel like it is connected to that beloved series.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This book was such a good read; I was hooked from the beginning and loved reading it to the last page. As with all of Julie Richman's stories, it is really well written and flows really well. It has a great storyline, captivating scenes and wonderful characters.

This is a story about the world of Hollywood, it's high expectations, unrealistic relationships and living up to the dream. It's about real love in an unreal world. Frankie is an author who is having her best seller made into a movie. I loved Frankie, in amongst all the Hollywood glitz and bravado, she was a breath of fresh air. She was ballsy and wasn't going to be trampled over by anyone. Finn Parker is lovely, he is a bit of a lost soul and I really felt for him at times. All the characters are very well written and really believable.

This is a brilliant read and one I highly recommend. I was sad to come to the end of it, but it was definitely an ending worth getting to and it did make it a must read story.

It’s going to be another Julie A. Richman winner. Her plots always grab you and keep you hooked, her characters are well developed, and you feel like you know them - keeps you going until you finish. A great Summer read for sure coming June 26th❤️. I can’t wait!!

I loved this plot within a plot story. An author who has full casting rights looking for the perfect lead for the movie being made from the book. The story of Frankie and Finn with a dashing Maverick, and others, along with some surprise character visits makes for a great tie-in.

I love the way Julie writes... And I loved Reel Love. You will too.

Reel Love by Julie A. Richman is going to be a summer blockbuster in the romance world. Every reader loves a Movie Star romance. A Rags to Riches story. Reel Love is so much more because it not only showcases the glamour of the film industry but also shows the manipulative side where actors are valued by dollar signs rather than true talent. It also presents a vivid description of the insecurities of struggling actors to the over confident superstars who use their clout to manipulate getting roles.

Francesca Simonelli wrote the best selling novel Fleeing An August Moon. This novel became an international best seller and is being made into a movie. Francesca was lucky enough to maintain the artistic rights from casting to the screenplays. She has gone to Hollywood for the casting process. She is determined to pick the best actors to portray the beloved characters from her book. She doesn’t care about what actors are the biggest box office draw, she wants authenticity. When she comes across Finn Parker’s picture she feels like she is staring at Griffin Chase, her leading male character. She doesn’t care what he’s done prior to this audition, she just hopes he can act.

Finn Parker is desperate for the role of Griffin Chase. He hasn’t had a job in two years. He needs a breakout role that will pivot his career. When he first begins reading Fleeing An August Moon, he hates the story but is willing to embrace the character of Griffin Chase. It will show his true acting skills. He knows he’s up against stiff competition. Maverick Dailey, the biggest box office star in Hollywood, also wants this role. He’s willing to do anything for this role. He needs for Francesca Simonelli to see he is the perfect Griffin Chase.

When Finn “accidentally” runs into Frankie after his first audition the quest for the role takes a different course. He actually likes the book and understands why this story took the world by storm. He wants to know more about the character of Griffin Chase. He also wants to get to know Frankie. She has captured his attention because she’s true to herself. She is a real woman with a real personality rather than a manufactured picture perfect woman. She could care less about A-Listers, the “right” diet, and designer gowns. She’d rather eat sugar than avocados. He genuinely likes her. He’s willing to show her who Finn Parker really is rather than the manufactured person on the screen. He’s competing for more than the role of Griffin Chase, he is vying for Frankie’s heart.

Hollywood is a manipulative place. Everyone is playing a role. It’s hard to tell what’s real in a world that spins upon fantasies. Everyone has a price, the lines can be altered rather than crossed. Frankie has to hold her ground and hold onto her heart even if it means sacrificing Finn for the right reasons.

Julie A. Richman has once again delivered the “WOW” factor in Reel Love. I felt like she added her very soul to Frankie Simonelli. The vivid descriptions she used to describe Fleeing An August Moon was as good as the characters she created in this story. She stretched her writing talent to a whole new level by delivering two very different romances in one story. I love that she is one of the few contemporary authors who uses mature characters with life experience rather than angsty younger adults. The characters always seem to be more seasoned and their stories are always multi-demensional. Julie’s books come to life and capture the heart. Like Frankie, Julie stays true to all of her characters including characters from previous books. I loved the cameo appearances from the Needing Moore series.

I absolutely loved Reel Love by Julie A. Richman and would highly recommend this book.

I also hope at some point Julie will really will sit down and write Fleeing An August Moon.

Behind the glitz and glamour of Hollywood is a reality that only those in the business see and understand, which means to the unseen eye, tinseltown seems like a place where dreams come true and everyone involved in the movie industry are beautiful and live amazing lives.

But the truth isn’t as pretty as the perceptions of the Hollywood Hills because this industry consists of manufactured drama, fictitious worlds, and of fabricated connections/relationships, making it extremely difficult to be able to separate reel life from real life and reel love from real love.

For Francesca ‘Frankie’ Simonelli, the lights of Hollywood aren’t something she knows or even understands, but after her book garners enough attention to be offered a movie deal, she takes a hands-on role in bringing her story to life on the big screen, requiring final approval of the actor who will play her hero, Griffin Chase. The only problem is that who she wants for the role and who the studio wants are not the same male lead, which means she has to remain professional in order to choose which one would make the best Griffin regardless of her personal feelings toward both actors.

It’s said that making it big in Hollywood requires giving up a part of one’s soul, and while Finn Parker is still working on getting a standout role, he’s definitely changed who he is to obtain any advantages he can. When what Finn sees as a breakout role presents itself in the form of a book turned movie, at first, the script doesn’t appeal to him, but his opinion quickly changes, and after he nails the audition, it seems he’s destined for the role, but what that means for his career compared to his personal life is now where the problem lies because if he wants to be Griffin Chase, what happens to the real man behind the fictitious character and which one does Frankie truly want and need him to be?

The concept of Julie A. Richman’s newest release, Reel Love, is fitting for all that’s occurring in contemporary society when it comes to book to movie adaptations. And the idea that fact and fiction easily overlap each other in many facets of life rings true as well. Richman does a great job of illustrating all of the obstacles that Frankie and Finn must overcome if they want to turn their feelings for each other into something real and lasting. The behind-the-scenes look that readers get is extremely insightful and the difficulties of separating what’s real and what’s fiction when it comes to Frankie and Finn’s chemistry, connection, and feelings solidifies why Hollywood is so much more than how it’s portrayed on the small and big screens.

Reel Love was a Hollywood romance as only Julie Richman can craft. It was thoughtfully written with multi-faceted characters and vivid imagery. I loved the characters’ layers that were peeled away to reveal if they were “real or reel.”

After seeing so many author friends score movie adaptations of their books over the past couple years, I enjoyed Frankie Simonelli’s character immensely. She published a wildly successful novel, and is in the middle of trying to cast her movie adaptation when we first meet her. From a photo, Frankie sees Finn Parker as her book’s hero almost immediately. However, everyone else involved in making the movie happen has other plans in trying to sway her opinion by casting a box office celebrity with Maverick Dailey.

Finn is between acting roles and has been out of work for the past two years, but has been offered an audition opportunity for the lead in Frankie’s movie. He knows he needs a career boost and knows he can be Griffin Chase. He’s determined to rehearse and research and do what needs to be done to land this part.

I really adored Frankie and Finn. Their relationship was a slow burn, but I think that’s what made them a better couple. Their friendship and confidence in each other helps them find themselves, forging a stronger bond that gets tested at the end of this book.

Their integrity was left to be questioned by the reader at times, which made the book addictive and difficult to put down. Was Frankie enamored with Finn because he epitomized her book’s hero that she spent so much time with over the past couple years (even if only in her head)? Was Finn’s attraction to Frankie based on real feelings, or was it the end goal of the part he was trying to win?

The screenplay itself was almost a story within the story, interweaving an important social issue with the romance of Frankie and Finn. By the end of the book, the reader is drawn into the screenplay and how it is performed.

Reel Love was emotional and relevant and unforgettable. There were moments of surprise, laughter, and tears with this story…such a well-rounded read. One-clicking is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I am so happy to say Julie Richman is back with another fantastic romance this time between an author and the actor hired to play her leading man.

Frankie Simonelli is far from her Texas home in the heart of Hollywood in the process of getting her highly anticipated book made into a movie. She has complete creative control which also includes the actors hired to play her books beloved characters - especially Griffin. When he comes across Finn Parker's bio and headshot she knows she has finally found her Griffin - the problem is that he is not a bankable name. The more time Frankie spends with Finn though she knows she has found her man in more ways than one - but now she is questioning are her feelings real and more importantly are Finn's?

Finn Parker has been spending years trying to make it as an actor and has hit a 2-year dry spell. When his agent puts him up for what could be the biggest movie of the year he knows he has to get the part of Griffin - as he tries to understand this complex character he develops a friendship with the beautiful Frankie the author and ultimately the women who controls his destiny. Now he needs to earn Frankie's trust when he finally gets what he thinks he wants.

I absolutely love all things Julie Richman and have since I read the Searching Moore series. Reel Love is a witty, sexy and charming romance that takes the reader on a ride - one that I didn't want to get off of. The dialog is fantastic along with the great backdrop of Hollywood we get a birdseye view of how Hollywood works. Told in dual POV's we get to know Frankie and Finn intimately this is something Ms. Richman excels at. We also get a few cameos that as a fan of her books I loved - makes me want to go back and do some rereading for sure.

All in all, Reel Love is definitely in my top 5 of 2019 - the must-read book of the summer.

Reel Love is Julie A. Richman’s next standalone novel. I have only read a few books by Julie but I have loved each of them and was looking forward to this one and once again I was not disappointed. Julie writes unique stories that just suck me in. The synopsis kicks ass so I will make this fast.

Frankie needs a Griffin. Finn needs a chance. When she saw Finn Parker’s headshot she saw her Griffin. The character she spent three years with from her best selling book, Fleeing the August Moon. And Finn wants to be her Griffin. Desperately. He needs a break in Hollywood and the lead role in this movie would change his life.

He really has no idea how much.

Frankie is new to this whole Hollywood thing. She is a Texas girl in Malibu. She wants breakfast burritos not avocado toast. She wears cowboy boots not high heels. She is far from fake and wants to trust who she works with but she learns on her very first day in LA that she can’t. They only see money signs. And she wants her readers to get the best. The best Griffin. The best Gabriela. The best she can give even if she had to fight.

Finn has been in this game for six years. He lost himself years ago. Then he meets her. Frankie. He didn’t really notice her at first but being up close to her, he can’t not notice her. She is real. And he hasn’t been with anyone real in years. She makes him see color when he was only see ping grays. He wants this role. He wants this girl. Can he have both?

Can she trust him? Is he playing her just for a role? Does she like him because she reminds her of Griffin or is falling for him as himself?

Awe. I loved it! Their chemistry is undeniable. Their banter is fun and flirty. Their story is sweet, fun, and sexy. It is also unique, and addictive. I loved every minute of it.

Quotes:

“We have a story. I like that.”

“You taste dangerous tonight,” she comments, as I walk her into the bedroom.

4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reel Love by Julie A Richman was my first book by this author. I really enjoyed the writing style, characters and flow of the story. It centers on a book to movie adaptation involving Hollywood, which I love and a forbidden relationship from friends to lovers.

Finn is a struggling actor with a closed off past. He wants this movie role more than anything as it can change his life. Will he get some color in his life and be open to a relationship?

Frankie is the author of the book and has a direct role in the casting the film. She is not from Hollywood and a little naïve in this world she is entering. Is she prepared for all that lies ahead both personally and professionally?

I really liked the connection these characters had, their chemistry and insight into each other. I was rooting for them from the start, and nervous on some shakier parts of their story. Frankie was a breath of fresh air in the fakeness of Hollywood.

I really like when a story is told from both main characters perspectives and you get to see their inner thoughts as the story progresses. Richman’s story is told this way and lets you in on how the other really feels.

The supporting cast in this book adds a lot of interesting insight and story to the makings of the casting process, as well as, how the story unfolds. Richman gives a lot of detail in her scenes and makes you feel like you are right there in the story. I wanted some of the avocado ice cream lol.

I really enjoyed this book and Richman’s telling of it. Reel Love is a perfect summer read!

What a joy it is to read something different from one of your go to authors. Not only was I pleasantly surprised at the backdrop “Hollywood” but I loved how Julie Richman opened up a different world and anticipate new stories.

We meet Frankie from Houston, TX. She wrote a novel that became very popular with a subject matter very personal and dear to her heart. That alone would make a great topic of discussion for readers who keep up with current events. Frankie’s book was optioned for a movie and she has last say on casting. Needless to say, she is looking for the right hero and heroine for her story. Authors, I’m sure, invest so much time on creating characters that they alone know who they are in and out. Live and breathe their characters. Authors even have an image on what they look like. And Frankie finds him. Finn Parker. But can he act? IS he her hero Griffin?

Now Finn. Aww, Finn. What a great guy. His charisma oozed off the pages of this story. He lives and breathes Hollywood but isnt jaded but he has a level head so he’s not what many may see now as spoiled movie star. He’s just a twinkle at this point. And h e really wants the part. But is he good enough.

One thing I loved about this story is the blurred lines of reality or the reality Frankie creates. Fascinating. Add a couple of even more fascinating secondary characters and sprinkle in some angst and movie auditions and you have the makings of one hell of a story! Great job, Julie! Now about those secondary characters... ❤️

We all know that Hollywood is the land of fantasies. For newly acclaimed author Frankie Simonelli, it represents her first opportunity to bring one of her stories to the silver screen. This is why she negotiated to control the casting. Whoever ends up playing her characters will need to bring to the screen the most faithful rendition of what the characters in her head look and feel like.

From the moment she saw his headshot, Frankie knew Finn Parker had the perfect look to play her character. Now if he could only act and share the emotions that represented her character, he would be the perfect match.

Not everything works simply in Hollywood. There is the competition from the actors, the desire for a perfect cast from the author, and ultimately, the perfect box office draw for the investors. To marry all these needs, it takes grit and perseverance ... and a little bit of manipulation. This story covers all the angles that take to make a movie. Plus one more. What it takes for an actor to understand the character and how far will the actor go to win the part. Would he manipulate and scheme to succeed? Or simply search his soul and fall in love?

Do not miss this gem of a book!

I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.

Note: An ARC was provided by the author.

I know that this book's been called an ideal summer read by some of my fellow bloggers out there, but allow me to take it one step further by saying that Frankie and Finn's love story works wonderfully well during any season, but then that's par for the course when it comes to this author's work. I adored every single about this book, and Frankie and Finn were the sort of main characters that you could truly root for. I liked the beginning of the story, which is where we have Frankie all but drooling over Finn's headshot, but what truly hooked me was the fact that Finn wasn't all that thrilled about Frankie's book, which he was reading in preparing for his audition. The idea that Frankie was nearly smitten with Finn's photo and then here Finn was not exactly fawning over this romance novel that women loved but that he found...lacking. From then on, there was simply no turning away from this book, and I enjoyed the heck out of it! And the whole playing out of the story of Griff and Gabriella, aka Frankie's fictional MCs, plus the irresistible Maverick (I SERIOUSLY need him to have an HEA!)? Gah! Loved it! Five stars for Reel Love! ♥

I was so excited for this book and it did not disappoint. I always wonder if when authors are writing a book are they thinking of someone in particular for each of the characters. If their story gets picked up to be made into a movie do they get control over who plays their characters. These questions get answered in Reel Love.

Frankie is an author who writes a book that takes off. While writing her story she had a picture of someone in her mind for the hero. Hollywood however has other plans. Producers want to turn her book into a movie but have another vision for the leading man. She sees a head shot and is like yes this is who I envisioned playing Griff.

Finn is trying to get the role he has been needing in more ways than one. Along the way he and Frankie start out as friends but turn into more. They both help and learn from each other. Their chemistry is off the charts and had me thinking I want more of them.

If you have read Richman's books before then you will be pleasantly surprised to see cameos from some of her other characters. This book has it all and has you excited to see what comes next on every page. You will love the realness of Reel Love.

I have always loved this author’s stories and this has become a new favorite!

This story is about a young author, Frankie, whose book became a huge success. Hollywood is in the process of making it a movie. She’s from a small town in Texas and heads to Hollywood to have final say in the casting of the actors.
Finn looks exactly like the lead character in her book, but can he act? He’s so interested in her book & very handsome and Frankie finds herself very caught up in his charm. It become clear they both feel a chemistry, but is Finn interested in Frankie or just interested in advancing his acting career?

If you are a fan of books that become movies, ever wondered about the Hollywood scene and never miss an award show, this is the book for you! You’ll walk the red carpet, go behind the scenes and fall in love with this book! There are supporting characters in this book I’d love to read more about.

Reel Love was an easy, fast read because it was so good! Beautifully written with the perfect ending.
I loved this book!

Julie is one of my favorite authors, and she doesn't disappoint in this latest offering. Reel Love takes us to Hollywood and gives a look into the heart of Frankie, the writer of a best-selling novel to be made into a movie, and Finn, an out-of-work actor, who wants the lead role in that movie. We see the manipulations and machinations that go on in this industry.

I liked Frankie and Finn from the get-go. Both are strong characters, but we are allowed to see their vulnerabilities and insecurities from their dual POV. This allows us to get into their heads and their hearts.

I also liked the appearance of two much-loved characters we've met before in Julie's books. It's always good to hear from them.

I enjoyed every minute of this journey with Frankie and Finn. I really got caught up in their relationship. I can't wait for the next story from Julie. You rock Julie Richman!

I didn't know how much I would truly love this story! There's so much to unpack. There's the story of Frankie and Finn and then there's also Griffin and Gabriela's story. And their stories while connected are different.

I know nothing about the movie industry and very little about the literary industry so this was a nice peek into what I think they could be like. Frankie isn't a Hollywood type at all and that's what attracts people to her. She knew what she wanted to bring Griffin to life and it wasn't the person everyone was pushing her towards.

And Finn is adorable! He's like a few different people because he was Hollywood star Finn, Patrick and also PJ. And each of those facets of his personality were what Frankie fell for. And each of those facets fell just as hard for Frankie. Although it's really hard since Frankie is the author and Finn is trying to become Griffin.

A great story that held me from start to finish!!

Frankie Simonelli is the author of a bestselling novel that’s being turned into a movie (think blockbuster E.L. James huge). Hollywood B-list actor Finn Parker wants to land the leading role. What will he do to secure the role of a life time? Is Frankie falling for Finn or the actor trying to land the role of her favorite fictional boyfriend? Is there such a thing as real love in Hollywood or is it all about the film reel?

Reel Love was real original. What a great story with a cast of characters that make this story impossible not to love.   I think Julie needs to write the book that the movie was based on, as it sounded equally interesting!

This is the first book by this author and I am glad that I found it. I loved it. This was a great friends to lovers book about Frankie and Finn. The characters are so realistic in that they are trying to find themselves and that can be a hard thing to do when you don’t believe in yourself and the things that you can do. You will feel like you are right there with the characters and their struggles and you are going to root for them to get their HEA. This is a must read.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a story of a Texas girl who found amazing success in writing a book that struck a chord with the masses. But now Francesca "Frankie" Simonelli is heading to Hollywood to cast the movie. She is smart, sassy, strong-willed, and determined to make the right choice for her story.

One man's picture is exactly who she saw in her head while writing. Finn Parker is that blond, blue-eyed, charmer come to life. But then she needs to see if he can act and has the soul to project her beloved character. And the studio has their own favorite for the part.

But during the whole process, Finn and Frankie find themselves secretly spending time together. They enjoy their little bubble of fun and passion amidst the chaos of Hollywood power plays, media, and facades. But there is a lot going on in their world. Everyone wants something from Frankie so it is hard to tell what is real and what is a hidden agenda. And even Finn is not sure if Frankie really sees him or the person she created in her pages. They are living in the blurred lines of reality versus fiction. And being together could have significant repercussions, so it is all under the radar.

She is a girl who has lived in her head and created her own perfect man. He is a guy who has lived under guards and facades to avoid being vulnerable to anyone. They are put into a very challenging situation that could make or break careers and certainly break one or both of their hearts. They are both a bit broken but seem to fit together well. But if is it a Hollywood illusion or true love?

This is a sweet, sexy, heartfelt romance with various story possibilities that keep you wondering how it will all turn out in the end. It makes you root for your favorite, but also makes you worry how it could change the dynamic. I really liked seeing the growth in these characters, especially Finn. Frankie's presence in his life makes him take a good look at his current life and who he has become, and she pushes him to expose more truths about himself. And Frankie has to be able to stay true to herself to deal with all of the manipulations in Hollywood.

There are a couple of other significant side characters, Maverick and Eva that add some more depth, jealousy, and drama to the storyline. I would not be surprised to see more of Maverick in another book.
