For a short story, there was a lot of stuff going on. An enjoyable read.

His Surrender!
I really felt for these two mismatched people. Their love for each other is really very evident but Ezra is so much older and wiser and fights like crazy to keep Clara at arms length. It is almost as if the more he tries to prevent anything from happening, the more she schemes to get into his breeches.
I loved the characters, the storyline and the easy-read that this was and am happy to recommend it to you.

I loved the characters, the storyline and the easy-read that this was and am happy to recommend it to you.

FINAL DECISION: A quick read, this isn't a brilliant book but it was entertaining for what it is. A quick and easy hot historical with plenty of drama and crazy situations.
THE STORY: Clara Catchpole was rescued from her kidnappers by Lord Ezra Stone. After being rescued, Clara doesn't want to be separated from Ezra and knows that there is a connection between them despite the big age gap between them. (She is eighteen and he is thirty-eight.) But Ezra insists on keeping a distance between them. However, when another threat on Clara's life arises, Ezra and Clara get closer and it threatens his insistence on keeping things proper between them.
OPINION: This was an enjoyable little read. Crazy circumstances, crazy hot scenes. Nothing about it felt historically accurate or realistic, but it was a quick read with plenty of dramatic situations. I also enjoyed getting to see characters from the series who have important roles to play in this book. Ezra has plenty of secrets that cause serious problems in this book, and they are totally over the top. Clara is definitely not a shrinking violet. She goes after what she wants and that is Ezra despite all the potential obstacles in their path.
WORTH MENTIONING: At about 100 pages, this book is really a novella.
CONNECTED BOOKS: SURRENDER is the fifth book in the Regency Lovers series. Although there are overlapping characters, this book can be read as a standalone.

Disappointing
This author has written some good books. Yet the books of this series have declined with each new story.
This was, by far, the worst of the lot. For me, the disappointment was magnified by knowledge of the author's capabilities.
A story of such short length, I would normally finish in less than two hours. This novella had nothing to keep my interest.
Conclusion - The author is publishing series entries in quick succession, and it seems the motivation is not the enjoyment of her readers.
1.5 Stars ~Given that this author has the talent to produce much better, I downgraded a full star.

Smoking hot
Mortimer definitely knows how to write steaming hot historicals. I enjoyed the banter between Clara and Ezra and the obvious care they had for each other. The only thing is that the villians' plots always seem to run a similar path, but it wasn't too much of an issue in this one. At least it had an unusual twist. A very quick, engaging read.

Kidnapped and held prisoner for a month and surviving a fire, Clara can only trust one man to protect her. Ezra Stone refuses to let Clara out of his sight. Something dark from the past is threatening their happiness. Ezra will do what it takes to stop it. Steamy romance with another young lady who incorporated her lessons with gusto. Interconnecting characters.

Explicit language between the characters is more of a modern theme than of Regency times (other than in a men's club). Also the easier sexual relationships are more of a modern feel than of a historical one. Despite this I liked the characters and I enjoyed the storyline.

Head strong and hard headed
20 year difference is a huge gap, but the ❤️ wants what the heart wants! Another crazy person running a muck. A steamy interlude, no cheating or cliffhanger and you get a happy ending. Overall quality of writing was good. Enjoy!

Nice reading
I e joy reading how each character from all the books are wrote into each book. The only thing I wish the author to do was make each book finish the stories.

It is entertaining and there are erotic scenes, but the plot is crazy and the characters hardly believable
