When abrasive trophy-wife Stacy Mellomaker winds up dead on the floor of a bingo fundraiser few of the townsfolk are shedding tears. The doctors believe she died from an accidental overdose of painkillers, but Stacy’s ghost, as well as her sister, insist it was foul play.
Kay is hired to investigate, but it’s hard to determine whodunit when the whole town is chock-full of people who all have motive for murder.
Awesome, although I was surprised to find a couple of proofing errors (normally there aren't any). A great plot that had me spinning in circles. The twist at the end was brilliant and the fact that the Judge was so sneaky about the dress. Wonderful to revisit the characters and watch the way their lives are evolving. Bingo should be a pleasurable girls night but one person was winning all the prizes. Her gloating had everyone's backs up even the ones that didn't know. The ones that did didn't have a kind word to say about her. However when the young woman was found collapsed on the floor of the Ladies the shock was evident on everyone's face. Then the next day when she saw her ghost in the car she knew that the woman had passed. Was her death natural. The police seemed to think so but her sister hired her to look into it. She was sure it was murder. Affairs, arguments and manipulations seem to have been the woman's pattern. Regardless that she was married and had a young daughter. Can she put together the facts and find the reason for the woman's death? She also has to contend with a lot of skip traces at work and with this investigation it means a lot of late nights. Will J.T get anyone else in to help? Another factor on her mind is the forthcoming event that the Judge has asked her to accompany him too. Where did that dress come from?
Last Supper (Locust Point Mystery Book 8)— Libby Howard/Narrator: Margaret Storm (18 chapters + Epilogue) April 14-15, 2022
As Thanksgiving approaches, Kay is at a charity Bingo game that Stacy Mellomaker keeps winning at when she steps into the women’s bathroom and drops dead. It looks like a heart attack or an accidental overdose, but her sister and her ghost says otherwise.
This was feeling more like a letdown until towards the end of the story. Things are slowly heating up between Kay and the Judge but the previous is still working through her feelings of her departed hubby.
All the while, J.T. is taking on more skip traces and Kay feels overwhelmed by the work. Also, the Judges asks Kay to a black tie dinner, and mysteriously a swanky dress appears in her closet.
A new character in the story may become a repeat performer, which may make the series more interesting.
Not as good as previous plots, but a very good in-between story.
I read all 8 of these books over the past few days and enjoyed them. I.like the idea of an older widow, no steamy sex scenes, no name dropping "designer" this or that, no car chases, jumping across rooftops or other cliches of American mysteries. The characters are likeable, realistic and feasible. Each book can stand alone, but reading them in order suited me. I have favorites among the characters and the ghosts. The bad guys are diabolical and frequently deserve their fates. Enjoy!
I have completed this series thus far. I have found each story line interesting and the characters engaging. As a series reader I appreciate the fact that the author does not continually review background information. ( I dislike it when authors repeat the same info. In subsequent books.)
Just like the rest in the series, a very enjoyable read. Could be a stand-alone but better if read in order. The chemistry between the Judge and Jay has been building. Will Kay let herself fall for the Judge or not? She should never be a factor in finding happiness.
Can't believe I'm still enjoying the 7th book in a series. They usually get stale after 4 or 5. The development of the characters is such that each new adventure is fresh and engrossing. Great books for a long air flight or day relaxing or being in lockdown during a pandemic. Great job Libby!
I love this ongoing story about Kay; boarding house keeper, skip tracer and see ghosts. The characters new and ongoing work well together and Narrator: Margaret Strom does another wonderful job in this series. This story is about a Trophy Wife, Stacy Mellomaker who suddenly dies at a Bingo Fund Raiser at a church and Kay is hired to look into a possible murder or an overdose by Stacy.
I do enjoy reading these cozy mystery books, they are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and whole backstory.
Based around Kay, a widow and her housemates (A judge going through a divorce with 2 teenagers). Kay has a knack for finding murdered bodies and seeing their ghosts, she has an inquiring mind and gets involved in helping to solve their murder.
A great series of books, well worth reading! I'm devouring these at a fast rate!
I’m really enjoying this series. I like the slow romance of Daisy and JT, Kay and Judge Beck are interesting and everything feels as though it could really happen
I've enjoyed all 8 of these books & can't wait for the next one to come out. If you like strong independent women these are the books for you! Enjoy & happy reading
Libby Howard has created characters that readers truly care about. Her plots have plenty of twists and turns, but it’s the characters that keep readers coming back for more.
Beautiful story, characters and storylines are interesting and fun.Definitely worth reading the series and getting to know each character in this well written series.
