But she never suspected that her home and future would be destroyed at his hands. Forced into following Erik out of Paris, Meg discovers that her own past cannot be so easily fled, and that a new life in the company of this unpredictable, dangerous man may lead her into depths of darkness that she never imagined. In order to survive, Meg must align her ambitions with Erik’s – no matter what the sacrifices may be.

What a roller coaster of emotions!

~~Wow, just wow, This story really kept me on my toes and wanting me to keep turning the page. Wow, I’ve never felt so many emotions in one little book before like this. And, you really feel for the characters and you want them to feel happiness. This is the second book of the series that starts with Angel’s Shadow! If you haven’t read that one yet I highly suggest it! I laughed, cried, and raged! It was amazing!

Wow there was lots of twists and turns in the story, again I love that it’s told by Meg’s point of view. It’s absolutely fresh and you get to see her inside about almost everything and how she feels the turmoil of being torn from place to place with Erik and her mother!

The entire book is just about Meg’s feelings about being torn from her homeland and about their relationships she forms with other people while also making sacrifices along the way for the sake of Erik. I mean I really wanted her to be happy throughout this entire book but seeing all the sacrifices she went through I really just wanted to sit down and hold her and hug her. I really felt bad and, sometimes I really wanted things to go really well for her. It was also amazing to see her grow as a character in her own little way even though she still is a little broken on the inside.

Erik, ah, yes! There are times where you want to rage at him for what he does. It’s not a bad thing because I do love how the author does not emasculate his character in anyway. He still is the cold, Cruel, and violent man we know. And, there are parts in the story where he absolutely tries to grow into a better person as well. There were times where I was absolutely angry with him. And yet, I still love his character and I know he was still trying to get over his pain with what happened between him and Christine. I liked him more when he started treating Meg with some respect. But, I absolutely loved his character even though he did make me angry at times!

This is not by any means a romance with Erik x Meg. But, it might be too soon to tell for me but, I can tell there’s like a father daughter relationship between them. Meg had a relationship that I really loved. But, I’m not going to spoil anymore and I’m going to let the reader read what happens in this book. Judging by the other review on this book that people had to wait for years for this sequel I hope that the third book in the series does not take that long because I really do love this series and I really did wish I read it sooner! The author has a lot of talent with character arcs and how to weave a story and set proper emotions. The writing is totally crisp and descriptive like my other review stated. And if you absolutely love a aggressive Erik with bite, this is the book for you! I highly recommend it to anyone that is a fan of Phantom of the opera. And just wants something a bit different!

I’m happy to have read this book and, I highly await the third novel for whenever it comes.

Meg, Erik, and Madame Giry's tale

Written from Meg's point of view, after the original Phantom tale ends, this is a novel of flawed people trying to make the most of their lives after losses. It's dark in places, Erik's upbringing and early childhood abuse reflected in his treatment of Meg.

Reading the first book is a help, but it's recalled nicely through the text. Meg is trying to find her way despite difficult, ever-changing circumstances. Her mother is with her, and Erik as her self-appointed guardian.

The writing is entrancing, painting vivid images of a world spanning Europe, America, and the passage between. The feel is a perpetual dusk, darkened by fate, life choices, and impending doom on the next page, yet sensual in the love of the arts, and Erik. An example:

"In the moonlight, his masked face appeared to shine, the mismatched eyes closing as he allowed the music to sweep him away. I could see the power of it surround him like a magic spell, felt it tingle at my skin, as the violin sang out emotions too strong to name. He moved with the music, his lean body swaying slightly as his long thin fingers danced over the violin’s strings. His passion seemed to fill the sky."

I'll admit to shuddering when Coney Island was mentioned - used in PhanFic too awful to name here - but fear not as the ending does not resolve in the same fashion. While not a cliffhanger, it allows for the author's world to continue. I hope it does.

I am adding the spoiler warning because I am going to mention parts of “Love Never Dies,” musical.
this book is entirely about Meg and her journey leaving France to go to America to start a new life with Erik (the Phantom) and her mother.

Honestly, this book really reminds me of the plot that Meg has in the musical “Love Never Dies.” in the musical Megan actually mentions all of the sacrifices. She did in order for the Phantom to start his show on Coney Island, and ironically in this book the backstory that make has in the journey, Mike has is extremely similar to the musical backstory.

again, I wanna stress this book series is not a romance. There is romance in it, but it is not between Meg and Eric. It is between Meg and another man but it’s also really more about her relationships and how she’s seeing the world, do be warned there are a lot of dark elements in here, but of course if you already read the first book, you already know there’s a lot of dark elements this book takes a look at what women will do for those that they love sometimes.

What an interesting, well-written series. The author is not afraid to show the brutality of life for women in this era and how even the protection of an often frightening and violent man is such a necessity. I love that the characters are flawed, particularly Erik and Mme. Giry. Meg is often impetuous, but is also a realistic seventeen year old who has suffered psychological trauma. Mme. Giry is caught between her relationships with Meg and Erik, and has difficulty standing up for Meg when she needs it most. This is disappointing as Erik doesn’t understand his feelings for Meg and seems to sometimes resent her for not being Christine. I noticed there were audible versions of this book, and the first, “The Angel’s Shadow.” They are superbly well done, acted out with a complete cast of characters. The author, as Meg, easily shows her insight through her writing and acting. The actor who plays Erik is phenomenal. I highly recommend them.

Incredible!

I just could not put these books down, and when I had to, I couldn't wait to get back to it. What an incredible version of The Phantom of the Opera. I hope the 3rd does come out soon. I had read that the author had planned for 2023, but I haven't seen any further updates! Please, Louise, drop the 3rd book!

Meg’s Story

An Angel’s Flight is told from Meg’a point of view. That alone makes then story interesting. I enjoyed the book. It did seem to be long on detail which made reading very slow. More emphasis should have been placed on moving the plot along.

awesome!!!

This is definitely a mixed book with lots of strange undertones, that combined together, fit the historical atmosphere and make this a bittersweet sequel. I loved this and look forward to future books by this authour!
