With the sea at its side, the beautiful township of Bostchelan was home to many -- including the lovely Coquette de Bellamont, her three sisters, and her beloved father. In Bostchelan, Coquette knew happiness and as much contentment as a young woman whose heart had been broken years before could know. Coquette dwelt in gladness until the day her father returned from his travels with an astonishing tale to tell. At the center of Antoine's story loomed a man -- the Dark Lord of Roanan.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Lynn McClure grew up influenced by the reminiscent stories of rugged, rural Colorado farm life fascinatingly recounted to her by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts…tales of runaway buckboards, mule-drawn plows and dust pneumonia; verbalized images of stream-flooded meadows, frozen over in winter, where a child could peer through the crystal clear ice in wonder at the small fish, snakes and mice sealed in the meadow grasses beneath; stories of hardship and tragedy, love and loss. But always the stories, and the people telling them, bore evidence of the wonder and worthiness of simpler, yet sometimes brutal, times.

These influential people and the family legends they detailed, coupled with her own life experiences and utterly romantic nature, led Marcia to begin writing novels as Christmas gifts for her closest friends…friends who long for a breath of the past and miss the romance of bygone eras; friends searching for moments of distraction from the stressful, demanding times we live in.

And so, knowing that it is the breath of the past and the "take me in you arms and kiss me" kind of moments that so many women long to relive, Marcia spins her tales of love, life and laughter…adventures woven around those compelling, romantic instances that most appeal to a woman's loving heart. Marcia feels that if her readers close one of her books with a contented sigh and a delighted smile, feeling rejuvenated, cheerful and edified, then she has achieved what she set out to do…shower refreshment and happiness on anyone having experienced the story.

Marcia lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. There she writes her stories surrounded by her beloved friends and family...and the beautiful desert landscape of New Mexico!

The Whispered Kiss.*sigh* One of those books that you find randomly on Amazon, and can't help but start reading the sample. One of those books that you know you must immediately buy after reading said sample. One of those books you can't put down once you've got it. One of those books, so passionate and romantic, it makes your heart all warm and wonder just where your own knight in shining armour is. One of those books you'll certainly re-read one of these days.

The Whispered Kiss is a sort of Beauty and the Beast re-telling, and it was incredibly well done. The "beast" itself was not an ugly, physically deformed man, but one of the hottest heroes I have ever had the pleasure to encounter. He is a beast however, so bitter, angry and broken by lost love as he was. His heroine, the beautiful, candid and innocent Coquette de Bellamont, is also a woman who encountered the pains of lost love, when the hand of Valor Lionhardt (LOVE THAT NAME!!!!) was denied to her by her father years ago. But unlike the dark Lord of Roanan (the "beast") she did not turn to resentment and hate, but rather to hope and forgiveness. Thumbs up, Coquette. I loved her, she was amazing!

The story was incredibly passionate. Valor and Coquette were so in love with each other, it was just breathtakingly beautiful. But they both had fears and secrets to overcome before they could hope to reach a perfect state of happiness together. The scenes between them never went beyond passionate kisses (and yes, I can clearly see why McClure is nicknamed "The Queen of Kissing"! I just wished she would have stopped using adjectives such as "moist" and "his/her mouth watered at the thought of him/her... It was just...gahh, too much water!) but I found there was a lot of it, and there was also a lot of talk of consummating the marriage and producing heir and "I WILL have my heir" (aka. I WILL have sex with you!), but the actual word "sex" was never mentioned. So I am very thankful to Marcia Lynn McClure for that :) And for gifting her hero with amazing if impossible sexual restraint. He had himself so well in control in that respect that it was practically impossible.Nevertheless men, take notes!!

The whole lion symbolism was very done, I thought, and I also loved the characters of Victoria and Godfrey. My biggest complaint with The Whispered Kiss is that it was too short. And I'm not saying that because it was a 500+ pages novel and I wished it had been longer, I'm saying because it was too short, for real. It was only 242 pages, so the story was kept pretty simple and felt a bit repetitive. There was a sort of pattern established and I wished the author would have included more action (and a bit less mouth-watering kisses!) and MORE TALK BETWEEN THE H/H!!!! The whole book is made of misunderstanding upon misunderstanding, and I felt that the ending did not provide all the talk I wanted the characters to have! They were just kinda "shh..every thing will be ok now..." Wait, wut????? We've been waiting forever for you guys to EXPLAIN yourselves!!! So yeah, that was a huge bummer for me. Furthermore, I think some of the secondary characters could have been more developed, in particular Coquette's sister Elise. She had a lot of potential, but not paid much attention to.

All in all though, I loved every chapter, every sentence of this book, so beautiful and passionate as it was. More details/action/character development/dialogue would have been appreciated. I've been hesitating for so long as to how many stars to give it...part of feel like it deserves a 4, but part of me reminds the other part that when I think of a book as so amazing and passionate, it probably deserves a 5. So I guess 4.5 is a good compromise!

I will definitely be checking out more Marcia Lynn McClure books in the future. Definitely.

I saw a few others reading this one for Swoon Fest and realized it had been way too long since I had read it myself. I put the kids to bed and picked up my copy and had a hard time putting it down. I love fairytale retellings and Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorites. I thought McClure did a great job of creating her own version, but keeping with the spirit of the original.

I liked Coquette’s character, and thought her relationship with the Lord of Roanan was fun to read. This story contained two of my favorite plot points, lost-love and marriage of convenience. I thought their relationship had a lot of different levels and it was fun to watch their feelings change and grow. I did feel bad about her relationship with her family, especially her father. I have a very close relationship with my father and it was sad to see Coquette's dad be so cold and yet try and portray a loving father. His selfishness was sickening.

Overall, a fun retelling and love story.

Marcia Lynn McClure's books always have this effect on me. I start them feeling perfectly normal...and finish them with the world's biggest grin on my face, sniffling over how beautiful love is.

Her books are the best romance novels ever. And a re-telling of Beauty & the Beast? What's not to love?!

Long has Beauty & the Beast been one of my favorite fairy tales. I can't even count the number of times I've seen Disney's animated version of the story. Of course anyone who knows me knows I love fairy telling retellings & Marcia Lynn McClure so it's probably no surprise that I fell in love with Marcia's version.
I picked up the book The Whispered Kiss not knowing it was a Beauty & the Beast retelling. As I started I actually thought this might be the first book by Marcia Lynn McClure that I didn't love. It took me 50 pages to be hooked by her version of the story. But once through those first few chapters I fell in love with this retelling. Loved her dark hearted "beast" and couldn't help but smile with "the turn of the chalice".
Another fabulous book that I wouldn't/couldn't/didn't put down until I'd finished.

I love beauty and the Beast themed books! I enjoyed the story for the most part, a bit repetitive for my taste however. But what really put a negative spin on the book were the kissing scenes....... the word "moist" was used way to much and in my minds eye all I could picture was wet slobbery, drooling "yuck". I've read a ton of historical romance novels in my life but have never read any with kisses quite described like these. I had attempted to read this author before but the book I chose had a whiny Heroine so I didn't finish it. My understanding is this Author uses the word moist in her other novels which is very off putting for me ..... the accumulation of moisture in the mouth right before you kiss someone sounds icky!!! It made me laugh! Again it could just be me.

Marcia is such a great author when I just want something fun, light and silly-romantic to lay in a tub and read. She keeps it so clean and yet you still blush all the way threw some of her kissing scene's. She is very repetitive in her books witch drives me a little crazy sometimes but this was ok. It is the retelling of beauty and the Beast in it's own way.

Wow - I think this is my favorite retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Who wouldn't love a good looking beast! I was unable to really sit down and savor this book, due to traveling. Read pages here and there. I'll have to read it again straight through, as all Marcia books should be read. :o)

Five thumbs up, great stuff!!!

Moral Note: Passionate kisses, mild violence.

This was a fun re-telling on Beauty and the Beast. It was of course clean and I for some reason I loved the name Valor. I think I might tell Moroni that if we ever end up with a boy that this will be his name. I mean Valor Mills...doesn't it have a ring to it??

I really liked this book. It is a Beauty and the Beast take off. It totally worked for me. I loved all of the trickery that goes on.

*Quotes*

Pg239

"I must atone," he said. "You can not simply say it is past. Not with such scars carried as proof of it."

"Scars are but evidence of life," she said. "Evidence of choices to be learned from.. .evidence of wounds... wounds inflicted of mistakes... wounds we choose to allow the healing of. We likewise choose to see them, that we may not make the same mistakes again."

"For such wounds to heal- forgiveness is required," he said.

One of the points in this book that I really liked, was that both of the characters lost the love of their life. Yet, one chose to continue to endure, while the other literally became a beast. I love the fact that no one can ever take away our way of thinking.

What a beautiful retelling of the Beauty and the Beast! Note: This is a fairy-tale retelling- don't expect the characters/events to be strictly logical. Also the writing is a bit old timey exaggerated. Just..go along with the flow. I promise, you'll enjoy it.

Now I know why the author is called the Queen of Kissing. The writing is swept-off-your-feet passionate, emotive, beautiful- and yet the protagonists never go beyond kissing. The author knows just how to elevate the power of a romantic scene using kisses- chapter 8 has one of the most heart wrenching scenes and I was bawling..

That being said- the writing needed a little editing in places. If I'd had taken a drink at the mention of 'mouth watering for kisses' or 'excess moisture', I'd been roaring drunk by now.

I'M SO GLAD I DON'T HAVE THIS IN PRINT YET!....LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL NEW COVER!!!! MUST BUY!:)

Really enjoyed this one! It's a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. Love the angry hero!! Love the trickery! I kept waiting for it to be revealed that he turned into a lion or something, and then when that didn't happen, I was kinda disappointed! But I can't wait to re-read it now that I know nothing supernatural actually happens and can just enjoy it for the story it is.:)

This book follows most tales of Beauty and the Beast, but there aren’t any curses or magic involved. Although it does closely follow the outline of Beauty and the Beast, it does vary quite a bit in the relationship of the main characters and the beast is struggling with being the man he used to be or the beast circumstances cause him to become.

This book has a computer generated narration which is actually quite good.

Let me start out by saying that I always look forward to reading Marcia Lynn McClure's books because they are always very entertaining. Some of her books I like a little more than others.

"The Whispered Kiss" is a re-telling of the fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast". I liked this version of the tale, but I could not stop myself from comparing Lord Roanan's character (the Beast) to another male lead from this author, the handsome, brooding, short-tempered Mason from "Shackles of Honor". For some reason this bothered me.

"Shackles of Honor" kept me turning the pages despite Mason's maddening attitude towards Cassidy, but with this book, I found Lord Roanan's attitude a little tiresome. His pride was hurt when he thought he'd lost the love of his life. Feeling rejected, he allowed himself to wallow in self-pity, harden his heart and loathe the man who refused to give him the hand of his youngest daughter. When he found an opportunity for revenge, I thought Lord Roanan allowed his bitterness and deceptive ways to go on for too long. He wanted to show Coquette what a horrible person her father really was, but in the process he kept hurting her and himself. I did feel sorry for some of his self-torment. It was not easy for him to repress his feelings and desire around Coquette while trying to appear heartless and severe. It disturbed me that Lord Roanan allowed Coquette on a couple of occasions to drink milk laced with a sleep-inducing drug, so that she could not remember what happened between the two of them in his bedchamber. Even though his intentions were honorable, this type of deception did not sit well with me.

I felt sorry for Coquette from the beginning of this book. Fancy having such a superficial family and a father who would happily give away a daughter to secure his own comfort? Only one of her sisters, Elise, was likeable. She was not full of vanity and selfishness and genuinely cared for Coquette's welfare. Despite Coquette's cowardly and shallow father, she did not despise him and remained a gentle, forgiving soul, wishing no harm come to him. Her goodness tamed the beast-like ugliness portrayed by Lord Roanan to reveal the one and only man she truly loved.

Why have I waited so long to re-read this one? This has one of my favorite endings of Marcia's books I think. I am a die hard Beauty and the Beast fan and this is probably my favorite retelling. I loved reading it more the second time through, knowing what was coming...especially because of the circumstances of my first time reading it.:) I remember as I read it before, and got into the story....(it was my first McClure book I had ever read)..I remember I was concerned that maybe it wasn't going to be clean and I wasn't going to be able to finish it..and I really wanted it to be clean...and I really wanted to finish it! ;)...BUT...now that I know Marcia's books are always clean...it was so fun just to read and enjoy.

This is a Beauty and the Beast re-telling, and what a great re-telling it is! The Lord of Roanan is not a beast on the outside, but a beast on the inside. He has become bitter and filled with hate after losing his love. The author did a good job of showing the struggle between beast and man within him. Coquette is beautiful inside and out. She too has lost a love, but chose to continue being the kind and good person that she is, instead of turning to bitterness. We are able to see a few things in the story from the pov of Victoria and Godfrey, the main servants. I liked seeing their loyalty to their master and their desire for his happiness, and their willingness to help it happen. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

This book is different from other Marcia tales in that...you hate the hero for the first half of the book. And it's supposed to be that way. You see, this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but instead of the beast being ugly on the outside, and he's ugly on the inside. And as he changes and grows and purges the beast from within himself, THEN he becomes the Marcia hero she's known for.

The last half of this book was completely captivating--the ending had me holding my breathe and cheering and wanting to cry, too. But the beginning and I had a bit of a rough start for an average rating of four stars.

I absolutely loved this re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. It was very romantic and so much fun to read. This author is so good at portraying romantic attraction in a clean way, I like to call it "clean steam". The author puts a different spin on the tale by the beast is very handsome, but struggles inside with bad feelings that make him act like a beast. The Father of Coquette plays an interesting role.

If you love the fairy tale, "Beauty and the Beast", you will love this book. It is a re-working of the old story with the ugliness being in the man's heart instead of in his appearance. Very enjoyable.

As a historical romance, it might work, if your taste runs to the clean and overly sweet type of plots with an extra serving of angst, but as a Beauty and the Beast retelling, it doesn't work. It's plain forced.

A CLEAN BEAUTY AND THE BEAST RETELLING? Where's the fun in that?
I'm kidding. Had the story and characters been compelling, especially where the chemistry and attraction counts, I wouldn't have cared. Sadly, I'm not sure if this was because of how it was written, or by the author of her time, this story lacked.

VALOR reminded me of a petty man who was denied the hand of the woman he claims to love, and instead sought revenge. It started off well, until we realize his identity to Coquette and how he treated her. Since this was clean, I can't even tell if they went to bed. And Valor treats her poorly, it's not even abuse...but rather like a boy whose toy was snatched away.

That's lame. And I couldn't be bothered to read a story about a man child.

Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite stories. I give this one 3.5 ☆☆☆ rounded up. The story was at times, a bit over-the-top. Also, "the beast" wasn't as beastly as he probably could have been, given his reputation, but overall, I did enjoy this rendition.

Valor is handsome and strong, but he struggles with the beast within him, threatening to take hold and make his heart as cold as stone.

Coquette is beautiful and kind, and she loves Valor greatly. She is struggling to find the man she loves beneath the mask of the beast, but she is determined that Valor will prevail and not the beast he has become.

Romance - Clean (passionate kissing 💋)
Violence - Mild
Language - None

Wow!! Just Wow!! What a fantastic different story and way of Beauty and the Beast!! I couldn't put it down because of the constant on the edge of your seat what will happen next! I honestly feel like I was in the story as the fair maiden. Feeling how each character was going through it all the hatred, sadness, fear, love, kindness and more. I have to say again Wow what a fantastic book!!!!

In Bostchelan, Coquette knew happiness, and as much contentment as a young woman whose heart had been broken years before could know. Antoine de Bellamont returned from his travels by way of Roanan bearing a tale of such great adventure to hardly be believed. Further, at the center of Antoine's story loomed a man-the dark Lord of Roanan. Known for his cruel nature, heartlessness, and tendency to violence, the Lord of Roanan had accused Antoine de Bellamont of wrong doing and demanded recompense. Antoine had promised recompense would be paid-with the hand of his youngest daughter in marriage.

Thus, Coquette found herself lost-thrust onto a dark journey of her own. This journey would find her carried away to Roanan Manor-delivered into the hands of the dark and mysterious Lord of Roanan who dominated it.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It was a sweet romance with just enough passion to keep you happy and comfortable. I was impressed with McClure and plan to read more of her books. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone needing a heartwarming love story.

Beauty and the beast story. Coquettes father is caught stealing a rose from someones garden, and instead of punishment, he gives up his daughter to marry a stranger. A man, he believes, will treat her poorly. His selfishness is apparent. McClure has a wonderful way of inspiring, and offering a tranquil peace when I read her books. Always, I breath a big sigh when I finish one of her books. I believe I have read ALL of her books (many more than once). This is the second time I have read this one. McClure is always romantic, very clean. She can describe a kiss that gives me butterflies, without making me feel like I have intruded on something dirty. She writes clean, and stays that way! I look to her books when I have stumbled apon a novel that ended up being something sexually explicit. She keeps my perspective aligned with real LOVE and not just the lust part of relationships. McClure keeps me one a path to peace and serenity, not the path to destruction! I would allow my teen daughter to read ANY of McClures books! Thank you Marcia Lynn McClure, for giving me all these great options! and WRITE FASTER!!! :~)
PS...Thank your husband for being the kind of example to inspire these great novels! He must be one of a kind!!(Next to mine, that is).
