What do you do when your whole world is torn away from you? And the one you thought was your half destroys any hope that you had. The love that Shannon had for Nick was all consuming. Two different people in a different country when they meet. Neither knows much about the other. Two people who may not have necessarily met in there real lives but somehow fate brings them together here in Africa.
They were young, Shannon was the innocent grad student working as a translator while Nick was trying to escape the life that had been laid out for him. One he didn’t want or ask for. They were drawn together from the moment they met. Inseparable, it started innocently for these two. Stolen kisses, shared glances. But that was never going to be enough. Not with these two. The passion burned brightly and consumed them both.
But when reality comes crashing down on Nick he makes the decision that tears him apart. Not only breaking his heart but Shannon’s also.
Neither forgot the other, how could they, they were destined to be one together. The little things they both did as they went on with their lives. Things that reminded them of each other. That there got me the minute I read it. They may not have been in each other’s lives but they never let go.
The idea that there’s one person out there meant for you is kind romantic all on its own.
Not knowing that your going to get your second chance is even sweeter.
Fate is a remarkable thing and when it’s written well and put into a story it’s even better. These two were meant to be. Maybe not at that time in their lives but after the way everything they did in their lives and who they knew would lead them back to each other.
A love like theirs does not burn out it may flicker but that’s the wind deciding in which direction it will send them.
A story that had me in the opening chapter. The idea of knowing that at some point these two would meet again and get their second chance at love was moving.
If you love your second chance romance stories then STOP and grab this story! You will not be disappointed.
It moved quickly, it was romantic, teary, sweet and passionate. I loved it.
"When life hands you the perfect unexpected second chance, you drop everything and grab on with all the strength you have."
I am a huge fan of the second chance trope, and this one was just amazing! I loved these two!
Shannon Reynolds never thought she'd see him again. Never. She wasn't sure she wanted to after the way he broke her heart and belittled what they had together. He lied. He held on to secrets. He said horrible things to her when she last spoke to him. And she's never stopped loving him. A twist of fate and strange coincidence has put him right her her path again and it's turned her world and her heart inside out. How can she love someone so much, that she's never moved on, and hate them equally as much, all at the same time? He's acting like he cares - like he's always cared. Should she give in to her love for him and take this second chance, or will she just end up with her heart broken, no shattered, again?
Nicholas Barrett has regretted letting her go every day since. No, that's not right - he didn't just let her go. He shoved her out of his life. He didn't LET her do anything since he never gave her a choice. In his mind it was to protect her. In his heart, it was the biggest mistake of his life. Now, faced with the chance to make it right, explain the why of what he did, he's not going to waste it. He lost her once - all his fault. He won't lose her again. It's always been Shannon. Always.
This was so great! I wanted to slap them both at times, and hug them both. The pain and heartache they both went thorough all those years!! My heart broke right along with them. Prepare for all the feels!!! Loved it!!
Unexpected Second Chance by Suzanne Halliday is a stand-alone about two young people who fall in love overseas...
Shannon and Nick meet in Africa, fall in love, plan for a HEA but when secrets are revealed and “real life” comes for Nick—taking over the family business, thinking love has no room in his life or future he leave Shannon and their relationship in shambles...
Now 8 years later fate and Nick’s sister bring them back together and shows them that sometimes love is stronger, more secure and better the second time around!!
2 soul mates split cruelly by circumstance. Roll on eight years ,by chance or fate they bump into each other , literally!!!! This is where Nick and Shannon's story really begins. Second chance at it's best. Heartache ,misconceptions ,falling in love again brings these two lovebirds back together again. Beautiful story which was hard to put down and not rush through.
I simply adore second chance love stories and this outstanding book by Suzanne Halliday certainly fits the bill. Shannon and Nick are wonderful. He utterly broke her all those years ago and she became determined to keep love out of her life for good. She is killing it with her self-made business, far away from him, when their lives crash together again. Nick knows he has a metric ton of nastiness and hurt he left her with. He screwed up and they've both suffered apart for eight long and lonely years. Now that he's seen her, he will do whatever it takes keep her forever. He just needs to earn his way back into her heart and convince her that what they had in the past is worth fighting for. They deserve the perfect happily ever after.
What would you do if fate gave you back the other half of your soul?
When Nick broke Shannon's heart in what he thought of as a chivalric move to spare her from the worst of his world, he figured she would move on and find happiness while he lived a life of lonely regret and buried himself in work. Shannon never forgot her one true love or the hurt he caused with his Dear Shannon letter. Instead she buried herself in work, bringing happiness to others while shying away from any thoughts of finding her own. Both leading successful albeit lonely lives, nobody is more shocked than these two when fate puts them on the same path, literally. Sparks of all kinds fly when the star-crossed lovers meet again. Nick is determined to win Shannon back and Shannon is terrified of what letting him back in will mean in her carefully ordered life. This is a truly heartfelt story about love and finding your way back to it.
Unexpected Second Chance by Suzanne Halliday took me on an emotional rollercoaster. Shannon and Nick had me laughing and sobbing and I was completely wiped out by the time I finished the last page. I love the idea of second chances and this author did it so well. I loved this book and would definitely recommend it. 5 stars!
Yet another fabulous magical story of lost love, hurts, betrayal and second chances. Over the span of an eight year gap the love Shannon has for Nick has never left. When an unexpected collision reunites the pair.... true love is the only course available. A wonderful heartfelt read. Loved it highly recommend 5*
Fate has funny ideas at times. Sometimes you get a second chance at love. Suzanne Halliday captures that sentiment in a beautiful story between 2 people that get that second chance 8 years later. Unexpected Second Chance is full of sexy scenes, complex emotions, and snarky humor. You will love the roller coaster that is Nick and Shannon’s tale!
I normally really like this author, but this one just didn't do it for me. I could tell how things were going to go and it all seemed cliche. With the little bit we saw of Nick and Shannon in the past I felt sorry for Shannon, but not for Nick. He really should have grown a pair and said something his family instead of hurting the girl he loved. In the end this one wasn't for me.
Although this book was a different direction than the other Suzanne Halliday stories, I so enjoyed the main characters, Nick and Shannon. I love to think there are real people out there that would or could handle this scenario with the courage, love, laughter the author gave these two. Great visual images created , as always by the divine Ms. Halliday.
What a beautiful enduring ride of a second chance to have your love back. Nick and Shannon met years ago; their time in Africa was the beginning of their love story. But all things do have to come to end, Nick leaves to go back to run his family business, he leaves the one person that met more to him than his next breath.
Shannon has held a candle with dreams of Nick coming back and also bitterness towards Nick for years. On a hap chance meeting the two’s passion is intense, they feel it too, but so afraid to act. Nick now has a chance to redeem himself and show Shannon she still loves her and would give her the moon if he could. It is in this time of him showing and doing that you can feel Shannon’s walls around her heart start to crumble. This is truly a second chance love story with so many meanings of redemption and deep rooted love.
I want to talk about our days and make plans for the future. I want to there when you laugh and help you when you cry. I don't ever want to think you're along again
This love is true and Nick's words make one heart grow.

I have to say, the book was not what I was expecting from the firt chapter! The first chapter was so sad, and then as the book went on we were given more information. Fate had a helping hand inbringing the two back together, but their first meeting turned into a disaster! It was a book that I could not put down unntil I finished! I loved Shannon and Nick. Although there were several times that I wanted to scream and shake Nick! He thought that he was doing the "right thing." Of course he went about it all the wrong way. I don't usually like second chance stories, but I did enjoy this one! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
I honestly didn't want to like this story. I am hooked on the Justice series Ms. Holiday writes and just knew nothing would compare. I was so wrong. I enjoyed this book of love so much I can't get it out of my head. If you have ever loved someone then lost them or their love you will relate to this tale. I couldn't put it down. Treat yourself to the sweetest emotions lovers share.
Unexpected Second Chance gives us Nick and Shannon who years ago had an epic love. When Nick mistakenly tries to do what he thinks is the right thing for Shannon both of their hearts are broken. When they meet again the connection is as strong as ever. Shannon must decide if she has the courage to forgive Nick, let go of the past and embrace the future. Nick must forgive himself. I loved both characters and was so happy that they got a second chance.
Not a great romance. Not a great story. Not a believable ending. Just...no. **spoiler alert** She doesn’t tell him about the miscarriage through the entire book, then, boom...the end? You kidding me? After I waded through this mess for HOURS still holding out hope for a nice romance, a great hea? Never again, Ms. Halliday. Never again.
Shannon and Nick had a fairytale love until reality pulled Nick away. They are suddenly reunited after many years and sparks fly along with old hurts and insecurities. They have to choose to let love in or not.
Nick broke Shannon’s heart years ago, trying to do the what her thought was best, since that day Shannon has done everything to push love aside. As Shannon’s self-made business thrives, the one thing she hoped never would happen comes to head. As their world collide and Nick realizes the amount of pain he created and how alone they have been all these years. Nick is determined to rectify what he broke and fight to keep Shannon and never et her go again. Will love win or will the pain and hurt win?
What a great story for the heart and of forgiveness. The story of Nick and Shannon is a couple that would not be denied their destiny. As usual this author focused on the different aspects of those characters that played an integral part of bringing this sensuous and loving couple back together. I could not get enough of Nick’s sister “Jules”. She was vivacious, energetic and a true romantic. I found my own heart falling in love with Nick too. He was so clearly characterized. His part in this lovely story showcased him being the strong alpha and still was able to empower Shannon with the ability to forgive and heal. This story is hard to put down once you get started. I enjoyed the descriptive phrasing Suzanne Halliday expresses in all the characters and definitely her scene build-up. I was transported into the story and could practically smell the almond honey bath bubbles too! I cannot say enough of the sexy times that appear in this story. All I can say is “hubba hubba”. In simple terms, this couple is the definition of the word Destiny. It is the hidden power believed to control what is to come in the future. Obstacles be damned!!
I always look forward to any books by this author so when this new standalone came out I was delighted to immerse myself in her story. This book had a bit of everything, drama, and heartache but also an abundance of love. Nick and Shannon’s story is heartbreaking at times and I felt so deeply for them I couldn’t read fast enough so I could get to the heart of the story. Nick’s a real Alpha but st the same time has a wicked sense of humour. Shannon is a feisty and quirky girl just waiting for her love to come back for her. Altho that was more in hope than reality. So when their pasts Cross after 8 years the reunion is memorable. What follows is a true love story that was hot but sweet too. Great read. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Altho I have to say her brother is a total douche! Lol.
While reading this book I felt like a leaf being blown through a turbulent word storm. I experienced all the emotions - happiness, sadness, confusion, joy, rejection, shock, fear, surprise, and finally, the sweetness of forgiveness. Nick and Shannon’s love story is unique in many ways. Their love reconnection involved fate, some well-intentioned family meddling, and a great amount of trust and ability to forgive on their part. I enjoyed this book and I certainly recommend it if you’re a fan of Happily Ever After!
What a great story! Reading this book and seeing a better, stronger relationship raise from the ashes of a long dead relationship was fantastic. The whole process of sorting out the lies and misunderstandings, questioning if the feelings you once had could still be there, and coming to grips with idea of a future are all in this excellent book. This journey is something every reader will cry, laugh, yell/scream and enjoy the heck out of!
What a wonderful story. I am so happy to have found Suzanne Halliday. I read everything she writes and and never been disappointed. Her writing is witty and fun with a side or snark and sexy. Shannon and Nick are so fun. There love endured 8 long years. I love a HEA story. Thank you Suzanne for an awesome story
Take one alpha male trying to do the "right thing" and a young girl with a broken heart, add a few years and a loving sister and you get this fantastic book! Nick and Shannon come together early in their lives only to break apart. Fast forward 8 years add in a sister and a "bump" in the road and you have the start of one great read!!! If your thing is a great HEA then this ones for you. The only draw back of a Suzanne Halliday book is you never want them to end!
WHEN A SECOND CHANCE COMES YOUR WAY...YOU KNOW IT WAS MEANT TO BE!!!
Suzanne could write about taking the trash out and I would read it. She's just that good and with Unexpected Second Chance she does not disappoint. From beginning to end the love story of Shannon and Nick will grab you and carry you to the end feeling the love that they truly have for each other.
Great fun read. You will laugh, cry, and come out smiling! Highly recommend. You will not be regret this read.
Such a lovely story of redemption for two souls finding each other again. Just goes to show that even the most shattered of hearts can mend and how best intentions can be the worst choice, but with understanding and forgiveness their world is made right again.
A beautiful, sweet story of a 2nd chance love!after 8 years apart Nick & Shannonmwith a bit of help from his sister, bump in to each other, trying to run from him, shannon Hurts herself, stepping in to help her and ask forgiveness after he was forced to leave her years before. As per norm from Suzanne,we have snark, sass & giggle snorts! And hot alpha maleness.
We all have those regrets that we wish we could get a second chance to set right. Suzanne Halliday takes us on a blockbuster journey about heartbreak and the delicate art of repairing broken hearts. Shannon and Nick's story made me feel everything from heartbreak to the incredibly joyous happily ever after! I couldn't put the book down - not even for a minute!
A second chance story that kept me entranced from start to finish. Yet another great book from Suzanne Halliday, her books just keep getting better each time.
