In a time of ancient gods, warlords and kings…a land in turmoil called out for a hero! She was XENA, a mighty princess forged in the heat of battle! In this all-new series, writer VITA AYALA (Black Panther, Shuri, Wonder Woman, The Wilds) and artist OLYMPIA SWEETMAN throw Xena and her companion Gabrielle headfirst into a mysterious adventure. Can Xena discover the secrets of a village full of super-strong children, before jealous and petty GODS get involved?
I loved the Xena: The Warrior Princess series when it was on. Of course I am going to read some Xena comics. Especially when it has that beautiful of a cover. Pretty good story so far. I think it's in keeping with the feel of the show. So far so good.
Great first book. The story is great and feels just like it could have been any episode from season 1-3. The art feels a little nostalgic to me, just like the show. Plus, it looks like we are getting some canon Xena/Gabrielle relationship goodness.
Overall, great start to the books. Looking forward to the next issue because the cliffhanger of this one was a satisfying doozy.
This was really nice. It felt like a 3rd season episode. It was shippy. There were gods causing trouble. I will definitely get the rest of this series.
I wanted to like this more because I was a fan of the tv show. It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t really excite me. And the art was good, but I feel like the fact that Xena and Gabrielle looked & dressed *exactly* like Lucy Lawless & Renee O’Connor was a missed opportunity to interpret the characters in a new and interesting way! I guess I was disappointed by this comic because it didn’t feel fresh, new, or intriguing.
Not my thing. I bought this because the cover artist for one of the alternate covers was a name I recognized, because I had heard a lot about Xena (though had not watched it when it was on TV), and because this was issue #1, so if it turned out to be something I enjoyed, I would be getting in at the beginning.
Sadly, this risk didn't pay off for me, but I think that says more about my tastes as a reader than about the quality of this issue.
It's a good story, but it's a little slow-paced, and doesn't, in my opinion, give the background and world-building that would account for that slow pace.
The art is decent but not mind-blowing. I got the first issue in a Humble Bundle, and I'm not sure if I'll continue at this point.
Basically just like the show. The best part was Xena and Gabrielle's dialogue with each other. The art was cool, not super standout but pretty good. I liked it.
I'm used to bind ups so of course I want more. I liked it, felt a lot like the series and I'm glad Xena is getting some love. I randomly found this at the comic book store and had to pick it up.
