As It Should Be captures the longing for the time-honored attitudes and behaviors of Old Florida. It defines a code of what’s right, what’s wrong, and when it’s proper to do what’s wrong in order to make things right again. It’s romantic. It’s spiritual. It’s profound. It shares a rare behind-the-scenes look at the Old Florida lifestyle and culture few remember. Author Lance A. Edwards, a born and bred Floridian of Old Florida Cracker heritage, takes readers back to his youth in Central Florida in the 1960s through 1980s. It was a time when family bonds ran deep and traditions of respect, self-reliance, and personal fortitude shaped a generation. Those only familiar with Florida’s theme parks, traffic, and crowds will be surprised by what they learn about the cattle, cowboys, and citrus growers of Old Florida. Fantastic vignettes of the hardy settlers and their descendants will capture readers’ attention and draw them into a time and place almost forgotten. Come for the stories, stay for the laughter, and perhaps even shed a few tears for the proud people who built Old Florida.
There are nearly twenty Lance Edwards titles in print, eight novels and ten short story collections. All are hardcore erotic fantasies about dominant women. Lavishly detailed indulgences in sadomasochistic sex, they may be too adventurous for the comfort of most.
Settings are generally contemporary. Historical, paranormal, and metaphysical elements occasionally explore the concept of eternal soul-slavery. Other recurrent themes include fanatical reverence for femininity, revenge for the sins of men and the denial of orgasm despite relentless stimulation. The appeal of submission is explored more than the thrill of sadism. Still there is a surfeit of cruelly creative bondage, discipline, torture and degradation with a particular emphasis on pegging. Forced feminization, medical invasions, water sports, body modification and cuckoldry are also regular features. Content is about evenly split between consensual and non-consensual relationships, as well as those that begin as one and evolve into the other. Romantic love, commitment, and other uplifting ideals often join or obviate darker motivations, but generally such niceties are subordinate to the simple sating of appetites.
The author suffered a diving accident at age twenty-two. A quadriplegic, he has spent the years since writing these stories as therapy: venting the pressures imposed by his condition. As a defense against the loss of so much else (or as an endless indulgence in impotent keyboard-beating), this continues to be effective and productive. The author is flattered and gratified that others find value in his admittedly kinky obsession.
I loved the stories that Lance regaled with of him growing up in Florida until where he ended up now. All of the stories were very fun to read. He also talked about the butterfly chaos theory. Where everything is connected. Like the butterfly flapping his wings in China causes a hurricane in Florida. Well I kind of feel connected to this guy. At least in the places I traveled when I was younger. We used to fish off of that same railroad track in Englewood Florida that he would fish near his boat. It was a really neat collection of stories.
Fans of Florida history will enjoy this book. It reminded me of my family and my upbringing in Virginia and Maryland. The last chapter of the book is on the cause of the 2018 year long red tide which killed untold numbers of fish and mammals in Florida's coasts. It's a real life horror story. At the end of the explanation the author says even with all of the dead and decaying animals on the beach there was not one buzzard in sight. They knew something toxic was there.
Thanks Lance, for letting us get to know you and your family. They sound like a great crew! My kind of peeps. Also how your history reminds me of my childhood, growing up in the late sixties and seventies, and the way it was. AS IT SHOULD BE. The last chapter was definitely depressing to those of us who live on the FL Gulf Coast, and I just pray we never see something like that again in our lifetimes, and that people pull their heads out and protect what's important. AS IT SHOULD BE. Keep on snookin!
