ONE AMAZING READ!!!
Oh man, talk about hard hitting. This is one exciting, action packed, fast paced, pulse racing, heart pounding, page turning delight that captivates from start to finish. All the twists and turns, ups and downs, ins and outs, along with a few unexpected circumstances make for one incredible adventure. The pressure is on, the tension high, the danger and suspense builds throughout as the tale unfolds. One thrilling storyline with an incredible plot really pulls this bad boy together flawlessly. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it brings this bad boy roaring to life brilliantly. Remarkable job Mia, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.

Driving down to Boulder after a jewelry heist, Paul Stark decided to stop at a bar for one drink. The bartender looked familiar, but he couldn’t place her. When he wanted to start a tab, all her friendliness was gone. She told him he had nerve to even ask after “last time”! But he didn’t remember being here before, unless he had been in a drunken stupor and forgotten everything. She also implied that she knew he was a shifter. As he sat there, the door opened and a beautiful woman walked in. The bartender greeted her as Elisabeth, but when Paul bought her a drink, she told him her name was Lisa Landry rather than what Candace called her. He got up and sat at a table as Candace’s hostility rose. To his surprise, Lisa followed him and sat down. She asked him what he did for a living, and him hesitate and became distrustful – so he told her she had to keep it secret or his life would be in danger. He was an undercover cop! He figured it was okay to lie because it seemed to make her happy.

At the wedding reception 2-1/2 years later, Bailey was furious with Paul for marrying a mortal who didn’t even know he was not a cop! Their leader, Rand Simon, also was angry that Paul hadn’t cleared it with him first. He had to tell Rand he wanted out – but he knew that would never happen.

Two years later, Paul was speechless as Lisa told him she was pregnant. Rand was going to kill him for this! Rand had told him if he messed up, he would arrest him and Lisa would learn the truth. Rand was an actual decorated police Sergeant with a flawless record, and he had Paul right under his thumb. When Paul realized Lisa should not be able to get pregnant -- unless she was also a shifter, carried the gene, or it was someone else’s child -- Lisa saw his expression become hard. Could he somehow swab her mouth for a test without her noticing? Hah!

Melissa Genevieve Stark was born, looking exactly like her mom. Paul never had the test done, so he still didn’t know if she was his daughter. One day, Lisa acted kind of strange at breakfast. Paul drove to Bailey’s house to talk to Bailey’s sister, Stella. This day, Stella told him she did a favor for him – she showed a video to Lisa of Paul shifting into a bear! Paul raced home, but Lisa and the baby were gone. He didn’t even know where to begin searching! Would he ever find them?

This short prequel is written to give the reader some background for the other Bears in Blue stories that have already come out. Each chapter jumps through a time period of a few years as we learn why Lisa ran and how Paul reacts. Although the characters aren’t necessarily “good guys”, the reader may feel some compassion for their situations; and this background story is very helpful in filling in a few gaps. Grab your copy and catch up on their story. It’s a quick read but important information the reader should have.

I received this book for free through Bookfunnel and this review is voluntary.
It always pains me to leave a bad review, especially when I got the book for free, but I just can’t seem to find anything to like about the book.

Story: it doesn’t read like a story but the chapters seem to go for one random moment to another.
Characters: there’s not a kind word I can say about the characters. They’re lying, cheating, manipulating, and feeling sorry for themselves on every page
Flow: I had a hard time tying the events together as we jump through time
Writing and editing: while I didn’t enjoy the writing style, I didn’t notice typos, mistakes or errors.

Rating: the only reason I’m not giving this book a one star rating is because the writing and editing isn’t bad, but for me it was a total miss.

i read this prequel as part of an arc program. This is the new prequel for a new series. In this book, Paul is a thief and stops at a bar one night. He meets Lisa there and they hit it off. Paul tells Lisa he is an undercover cop and two years later, they marry, and Lisa still thinks Paul is a cop. When they have a baby, Paul is surprised because he is a bear shifter and they can't mate with humans. Lisa is a human, so either she has shifter blood she is unaware of, or she was cheating on him. When they grow apart, Lisa leaves Paul and Paul tries to find her to get his daughter back. Paul is best friends with Bailey, a fellow thief, and Bailey's sister Stella tries to get Paul to realize he belongs with her. I liked this quick read and look forward to reading more of this series.

“First Shift” is a very short prequel to the Bears in Blue series. This story gives some background and important information for the other books. This book is an incredible, fast-paced read that will keep you captive till the final page. Paul a shifter and a thief meets Lisa in a bar and tells her he's a police officer. There is an instant chemistry between Lisa and Paul and they marry two years later. Lisa still believes that Paul is a police officer. This exciting, action-packed, story has many twists and turns to keep you entertained from the first page to the very end. “First Shift” is a great introduction to the Bears in Blue.

I received this book for Free to Give My True & Honest Review.

Here we have Bear Shifter Paul Stark who meets mortal Lisa & Their joining started so right from the off start. Even though he's kept back his true being from that same off start also.
Then a few years later after the birth of Melissa things go down hill very fast.
Here we see what's happened to Paul & their Bear Sleuth over a few years. Then we jump back again to when Melissa was born & hear something unexpected.
Looking forward to see what's going to happen & what will be told during Lisa & Melissa's lives without Paul & see if they meet up when/if Paul's able to track them down years later...

This story is the prequel to the Bears in Blue series. It is set before Rookie Shift and gives the back story to Melissa's parents. It is a short read but fills in the gaps and gives a view of Paul Stark. Is he a good guy or is he a villain? It also gives some history to Rand Simon who appears in Undercover Shift. A great book to start the series and even though I read it after the following 2 books I really enjoyed it. Best read before the following two books if you can.

Not just bad but really bad

I don’t know what I expected but this definitely was not it. Short chapters that are just disjointed. I know this is a prequel but it just seems like a dumb bear shifter, Paul, being manipulated by a sneaky female bear shifter, Stella. Enter the human wife and then the baby who you don’t know who the father is, hence cliff hanger ending. I guess the beginning of the series then picks up there but it is just so bad I really do not want to read any further. Not for me but see for yourself, happy reading.

This is a great short story about Paul's journey. He takes orders and follows directions but his sleuth leader. But he makes one exception... his love life. His life and circumstances have lies of ups and downs and twists, what can he do to change his life's trajectory and get to make decisions. Great story with suspenseful moments and events that keep you hooked.

Paul was delusional to think he could keep his worlds separate and not have his wife become suspicious. Stella did help Paul but she had a very shady way of doing things. Rand's character makes so much more sense now that the connection is clear. I laughed so hard at Lisa's confession at the end and didn't quite see that twist coming.

Paul is a bear shifter and a thief. Paul ends up meeting Lisa in a bar after doing a heist. They start talking and after two years decided to get married. Paul ends up not telling Lisa what he really does. The big lie that he has told has gotten in the way. I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the storyline and plot. A good bear shifter romance.💞🐻💞

I have to be honest here... I read this one after reading the other two in this series and I really ended up not liking Paul or Stella. They came off as users who were only focused on sex and power. Did I enjoy the other two books, yes, but this one? Not so much. Granted it was more of a short story than anything else but still.

I’m not a fan of this one. It may have been the short format of the story prevented me from knowing them very well, but by the time the book was over, I really didn’t like any of the lead characters. Paul started out being sympathetic, but that opinion changed quickly. I thought Paul and Stella were manipulative narcissists. I really felt sorry for Lisa and Melissa, and even to some extent Bailey.

This is where it all started.
And this book reveals just how far a bear will go for his Sleuth.
There are shady characters and then theres Stella - I hope we'll find out just how shady she is in books to come.
But if you wanted an easy and quick explanation of the Bears in Blue characters then you're plumb out of luck. A series that's promising to be this good isn't gonna be easy to explain

OK? That was very, very strange. I don't know what is up with Stella. If Lisa is Paul's Mate why did things go down the way they did? As I said very strange. Not a bad story but a strange one. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.

This is a short, easy read which makes it perfect for a prequal to the "Bears in Blue" series. The underlying plot runs through the storyline seamlessly with smaller plot stories mixed it. The ending blew me away, I wasn't expecting that. I can't wait to see what happens next.

This is a prequel to the Bears in Blue series. Paul meets Lisa and falls for her even though she isn’t a shifter. When Lisa discovers Paul’s lies, she takes their daughter and runs. Will Paul track them down? Quick read with plenty of drama and suspense. I liked it.

The story hierarchy is confusing and the characters are not worth reading about. By the time this story was done, I was wishing these bear shifters dead.
