★★★★★  This is a sizzling hot book. The characters are great, the plot races and the writing is great. Humour, magic, crossbows, ferrets, mysterious men – this book has it all. I can’t wait for the rest of the books in this series.” - Amazon reviewer

★★★★★  "The main character, Jax, is like if Gin Blanco (of Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassins series) and Harry Dresdan (of Jim Butcher's The Dresdan Files series) had a baby. That is high praise cuz I love Gin and Harry dearly. The HighFire Crown built a world of magic, mythology and mayhem. I am super excited for the next books in the series! - Jenny B.

★★★★★  “Witty, gripping, and leaves you wanting the next book. I found myself laughing often and unable to put it down for long.” - Amazon reviewer

A fittingly bombastic season finale to continue on from where part 5 left off (if this were a TV show, that would have been the two-parter).

As with the rest of the series, I guess I liked it but still was just frustrated by the detail, emotional relationships and editorial finesse that it lacked. Some of the plot ties up a little too easily, while other things just get a bit of a shrug off.

Also: why did it take so long to tell us what Blood Magic was? Although did it, really, because it seemed to be two things...

Some of the plot twists seemed like such a let-down after they'd taken so long to get to. Yes, I like the interconnectedness of the series as a whole, but it came back to that problem I noted in the first book: it ended up relying of details you, the reader, could never have known without being explicitly told. That in the moment thing snatches away the satisfaction just a bit. It's all so conveniently HEA.

The lack of emotional connection between characters was a bit hollow - Jax and Morgan had the best relationship building going on because they actually spent time together in the end.

Ah well, if it's a big-ass showdown you were after, then this'll do the trick even if it doesn't quiet answer all the questions.

It went down hill after the first book, which was good. For the first book review, I said I liked that she didn't drag out situations but as each book went on, it seems there was more and more filler crap and a lot of unnecessary and boring details that could've been left out. Parts were dragged on to the point I was skipping over entire paragraphs. Not fond of the last few books. It was disappointing since the first book showed so much promise of what could've happened. I wouldn't read again.

Wow, an action-packed finale for the series. Love and loss abound, as do good and evil, with the line between the two sometimes being blurred.

It was a fun and almost happy ending to the series but somehow I can't shake the feeling that I was expecting something a little bit more. I also was getting a bit weary of the recaps of the series that kept popping up. I probably would've been grateful for these if I'd had longer gaps between books though.

Loads of action, but on the whole, there's just not enough emotional connection here. I hate that just about everyone dies, too. What's the point of that? I prefer a bit of positive in my dystopia.

Engaging enough but not totally wow. It certainly has potential. So left a bit when finished.

ALL SPOILERS AHEAD: I enjoyed this book but it did not end how I thought at all and I’m mad about it. First of all, I had already shipped her and Lysander so when they turned out to be siblings it was horrible. And when she killed him and he never miraculously came back to life it was the worst thing ever!! What an unsatisfying conclusion and yikes to all their chemistry the first few books, I wonder if it was retconned, why would she wax poetic on how hot her brother is, foreshadowing-ly speaking. I was sure Darick was an evil vampire because they kept saying he had a vampire name! All kinds of clues in the books lead to nothing, no twists, everything was exactly how it seemed. Also I was sure Bilamaex was evil because remember back when Slyden said she had the black and white rabbits confused? I was sure that was a clue that Bliamaex was super evil and maybe even that much of what she was raised to believe was good/evil was just brainwashing from school, and it would all be revealed by the end. I was also sure she’d have a come-to-Jesus moment that vampires are people too, doubly after she found out she had vampire blood, but nothing of the sort happened, all killings were justified. Harumph. Still a great great series! I’m only complaining because I was SO into it. Also this last book felt halfway like a clip show, which is one way to wrap everything up but I missed the novelty of the other books.

The New Dawn Throne

A rollicking, fast-paced urban fantasy-thriller-action book, the sixth and last in J T Lawrence & M J Kraus's Blood Magic Series. Assuming you have read the previous five books, (and if you haven't what are you waiting for?), then you will be delighted to see all the loose ends neatly tied up, and that all the characters from the previous books are (mostly) all present in one form or the other.
This series is not only great fun, highly entertaining and intricately plotted, but it is also carefully crafted, with cunning curse words and spells in Latin (some very funny indeed), so suitable for younger reades too.
I really loved this series - Lawrence & Kraus make even 'orrible orcs and ghastly goblins charcters you can care about, and her lead charcter Jax and her cute magical ferret shine throughout.
But do not take my word for - check the Blood Magic series out for yourself if you have not already done, starting with The Highfire Crown.

A great ending to a great series.
The end of the world is near, the vampires have the Highfire Crown, Jax has the Chaos Jar, all that’s missing is the last item.
Orcs are running wild, destroying everything, and are determined to capture Jax as are the vampires.
The only solution seems to be to go after the head vampire. And that’s what Jax plans to do with help from her friends (not her idea).
This book has action, a lot of surprises, suspense, humour, a bit of romance and more.
There is violence, a lot of magic and strange happenings.
I just loved this book; I found it an amazing ending to a great series.
Definitely recommend.

What a disappointment. The series started off well enough, but just kept sliding down hill. It constantly asked more questions than it answered, and once it finally got around to the “wrap it all up” exposition the answers it gave were for the most part weak or inconsistent. A lot of things were just dropped as if they never happened, and there were far too many deus ex machina for me. To be fair, even one would be too many for me, and this series and in particular this last book had several. Looking at the overall reviews I know I’m in the minority but I would not recommend it.

Yesterday was when I started on the first book of this series. I've gone through this entire series in 24 hours. I'm very glad I hadn't had to wait months for the next in the series. Luckily, I can read while working as I could not put them down. One thing I really like is the next one starts where the previous one stops. I really enjoyed this series.

What a great conclusion to the series!

This series hooked me from beginning to end. It tackled evil, love, revenge, loyalty and betrayal - to mention just a few themes.

Jax is a likeable character and it was good to see her development. Other characters were intriguing; if not all likeable.

Filled with magic and mayhem, I highly recommend the whole series.

Excellent!

What a ride! This was definitely the cherry on the top close to an amazing series.
Every little thread was tied together right from book 1 through to book 6. It is a with a sad heart I have to bid a fond farewell to all these characters that crept into my heart. I will definitely revisit them soon!

The end

The end, season two is out now sadly I read that series first cursebreaker series. So I knew the end to this series but I did have one surprise why did her not tell her the idiot so heart breaking the ending was a happy ever after but that stuck with me sadly. Poor Jax.
A great journey in this new world. Will wait for season three

Wonderful Series

Jax and her allies managed to pull it all together in the end. Unfortunately Lysander did not survive but he turned out to be a good guy for the most part. I really enjoyed the series and will likely read more by this author.
