Her Unexpected Cowboy

Rate this book
A cowboy without a memory, a goat rancher in desperate need of help, and neither expect the dangers that follow…

Sydney hides out at her goat ranch, unwilling to ask for the help she desperately needs. She clings to her loneliness as a badge, that is until a cowboy who strangely matches her crazy birthday wish shows up at her door.

She is half-scared, half-intrigued by this handsome but bruised up cowboy with no memory. Does she allow him to stay in her barn and help, or send him on his way and hope he listens?

Jameson wakes up on the side of a country road in the middle of nowhere hurting pretty much everywhere and having no idea of who he is or why he is there. When he walks to the nearest house, he’s both relieved and fearful that a beautiful single woman answers his call for help.

He has to find out who he is, but Sydney has captured his heart and he makes excuses to stay near her, helping at her ranch. A nagging feeling like time closing in keeps tugging at him, until the Sheriff pays Sydney a call and Jameson recognizes his voice—a voice that causes a chill to run down his spine.

When the past catches up in a web of danger, they realize there is more at stake than just their hearts—their lives hang on the thread of his lost memory.

Read Book One of the Unforgettable Cowboys, a clean and wholesome romance series with a touch of suspense, where the stories are stand alone but the characters are tied together.

Romance With A Bit of Danger

Sometimes I just get a hankering for a cowboy romance. This one sounded good because, well, a cowboy that shows up on your doorstep and can't remember who he is or why he's been beaten? Yeah, I'm in. I enjoyed the chemistry between characters and how that grew in parallel to the increasing sense of danger coming. I liked Sydney- her kindness and her hard working attitude. This was a fun one!

Cowboys aren't my normal genre, but I decided to give it a go because I love Danae's writing so much. And I must say, I was delightfully surprised. As always, she came in swinging, proving the same ability to have you feel all the feels, irrespective the genre.
Syd is a strong woman, who pretty much runs a farm by herself. She's happy with her life, but lonely, and makes a birthday wish to change that.
I was half-way in love when a tall, dark and gorgeous stranger - hurt and suffering from amnesia - came to her in the middle of the night. Then I fell head over heels when he remembered his name was Jameson (*swoon*).
This book was a great mix of action and emotion. I couldn't help but turn the pages on and on, reading with the hope that he'll get his memory back. He knows something is going on, but not what. And falling for Syd has him stuck on whether she'd be safer if he stayed or left to protect her.
After reading this, I just might start getting into cowboys ...
It's a fabulous and emotional sweet romance read, and one I could most definitely recommend!

I enjoyed reading Her Unexpected Cowboy because it's clean, well-written romantic suspense (my favorite genre) and because I loved the characters. What would you do if an injured, very handsome man with amnesia came to your isolated farm in the night? Sydney greets him with a shotgun, but then tends his wounds and offers him a place to sleep. I loved this book from the cover through the epilogue. The HEA is perfect. I plan to read more from this author. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.

First, The plot was fantastic.
It was a touch unrealistic, but I can suspend reality for a book with no problem if the reasons are well-written.
However, this quickly became a chore to read. It started well, but the writing suffered once our Hero was introduced. Reactions were melodramatic, dialogue was cheesy and in some points, pretty cringe. I couldn't make it through 5 pages without rolling my eyes.
There were quite a few moments where the dialogue didn't match the character, What FBI agent refers to the perps as "Scoundrels." As if these violent criminals trying to kill him were the neighbor boys setting off some firecrackers in 1935. At some points, it felt like a historical novel set in 1850's England rather than a contemporary taking place on a Wyoming goat farm. Very grand, dramatic vocabulary and grammar. Every time something happened, the emotional reaction goes from 0-100.
No one is ever, "Disappointed, annoyed, wary, amused, miffed....no it's always, "Holding back tears, wanting to punch in faces, Frightened to the point of shaking, Pacing with anxiety, erupting with laughter. Emotions have levels depending on the situation, but every reaction to everything was always 100% a high and as dramatic as it could be. By 50% of the book, I had had enough.
.
Honestly, the only thing that kept me reading was the plot line. Who was our Hero? Was he really FBI? or part of the drug ring? Was the small-town sheriff really in on it? And if so...why? Why was our Hero beaten up instead of killed? What were they doing in podunk middle of nowhere anyways?
.
Imagine my surprise when the climax of the story was happening at the 75% mark. We still had a quarter of the book to go. And then it was over? Half of the mystery was never even solved. Why was this drug ring hanging out in the sticks? why did they just beat up the Hero instead of kill him? and plenty more that I won't put down otherwise it could spoil it.
.
One little thing...the Epilogue...it spans literal years. It covers their wedding, then pregnancy announcement then, putting two kids to bed. Just pick one...It could have ended at the wedding (Which BTW the authors refers to everyone by relation instead of name. "His sister, His mother, Her father. Which is fine, but she kept doing it and it became super obvious) Or end at putting two children to bed. We didn't need ten pages of Epilogue.
Also, this meant that years had passed...Did we ever get any answers on the Drug Ring? They caught the guy for questioning...what happened? I felt cheated there at the end, that I suffered through this whole book for answers and didn't get any.

-‘“Okay, I wish that a tall, dark, handsome man...”
“Meow.”
“Yes, I know that’s a cliché. Okay, with magnificent green eyes and large hands.” She looked towards Mr. Paws for approval, and he nodded as he began licking his paw. “In a cowboy hat,” she huffed at her absurdity, “would show up here, sweep me off my feet, want to live in this old cozy house, love goats and horses, and of course you and Guardian, enjoy hard work, and this simple life.” She hesitated and checked her mental list of attributes of her perfect man.
“Meow.”
“Oh, yes, of course we fall madly in love with each other.” With a deep breath, feeling quite senseless and despondent, she blew out the candles which, by now, only stood a half-inch off the cake. If her wish didn’t show up at her door, she would have to leave this ranch and the tiny town it lived in to find Mr. Right...”’-

And so it begins...

-‘There are no such things as coincidences—only perfect timing.’-

Oh, this story captivated me! I grew up on a small farm with goats and the descriptions sure brought back wonderful memories! My mother milked our goats and made cheese also and I appreciated the accuracy of the story details.

The style of writing is also something I really relate to. It’s descriptive enough to stimulate the imagination but not so descriptive that I feel the need to skip over parts. The voice is mature, yet down-to-earth. It’s fast-paced, clean, romantic, and has an element of mystery and suspense.

I absolutely recommend this book. It was excellent.

💕 Sydney and Jameson 💕

This is my second time reading this sweet, and oh, so romantic story. I know some reviewers of other books really enjoy a lot of conflict, but me...not so much. I loved the chemistry that Syd and Jameson had. Such a nice escape from the troubles we face these days with the chaos all around us. I especially loved the extended epilogue 💞

Nope

Every page has something about how one or the other or both of them were giving each other lingering looks and wondering what it would feel like to kiss them or run their hands over them. It quickly became nauseating.

This insta love was not for me. The whole thing was so unbelievable. It also felt like large chunks of the story were missing from this short story. At least the MCs were sympathetic.

Her unexpected cowboy had returned to her

Syd and Jameson's love story is breathtaking.  She lives al on a ranch that her aunt and uncle left her. Homer is her ranch hand. It is her birthday and her wish is for a tall, dark, handsome man with green eyes. Jameson wakes up at the side of the road, bruised and battered with amnesia and walks up the driveway to her home. He asks to stay in her barn. She cleans and bandages his cut over his eye and relocates his dislocated shoulder and let's him sleep on her barn. He helps her with her ranch chores and slowly some of his memory returns. However, when the men come after him, he must keep Syd safe. I love their banter and flirting as they fall in love. Syd kicked her horse onto a trot away from her unexpected cowboy
Their lips brushed together and electricity zipped into her belly.
I will keep you safe Syd. I will protect you.
He couldn't stop the momentum they had built up as his mouth crashed down upon hers. He needed to express all the emotions he could never find words for. He didn't know what love felt like, but what he did know was that he was falling for the gal who had saved his life, in more ways than one.
What's that look about? Just imagining a future with you.
I would wake up without my memory a thousand more times if I needed to, for it's what brought me to you, the love of my life, my home, and my future.
At their wedding, when Jameson met her gaze, his eyes widened in appreciation. Everything else faded. She hardly even heard the vows and promises they made to each other. She knew them by heart though, and their meanings would always exist inside of her.
I'm pregnant! They were starting a family.
Syd tip toed quietly out of the room. She had laid their six month old son down in his crib next to his big sister's bed.
Whether it was her wish that started all this or not,  she would be forever grateful that her unexpected cowboy ended up on her doorstep all those years ago.

Danae has written another brilliant book about owning a ranch, having amnesia, and of course falling in love. I recommend this book and all of Danae's books to everyone.

Her Unexpected Cowboy is the first book in the Unforgettable Cowboys series by Danae Little. Sydney hides out on her goat ranch, clinging to her loneliness and refuses to ask for help. While making a birthday wish, a handsome stranger shows up at her door, wounded with no memory. Sydney is torn between allowing him to stay in her barn or sending him on his way. When Jameson woke up on the side of the road, he came to the first house, he was struck by the beautiful woman who answered his call for help. As he struggles to restore his memories, he makes excuses to stay, to help her around the house all the while ignoring the warning ringing in his head. That is until the local sheriff comes to the ranch, Jameson recognizes his voice and a web of danger begins to close in.
Her Unexpected Cowboy was my first book by Danae Little and I enjoy a good cowboy story. The beginning of the story was intriguing. I liked Sydney from the beginning. I liked her courage, strength and hard working attitude. She is lonely with only her pets and the goats on her ranch. She loves her life, the ranch but something is missing. Jameson was a man with no memory and the mystery around him was interesting. However, the story was slow. The suspense was okay. The resolution was a bit predictable. The author’s attention to detail was admirable but slowed down the story’s flow. The romance between Sydney and Jameson was sweet and their happily ever after was good. Overall, the story was okay; but, I will not be continuing the series. If you enjoy cowboy romance with a bit of suspense, you may enjoy Her Unexpected Cowboy.

I loved it all
28 year old Sydney drew me right in -right away. Her and her way to talking to her animals like people because she is SO Alone ! The cat, Mr. Paws as she calls him is a prime example of that and made me smile ! Guardian is the other animal that she's closest to. He's a beautiful, large, gentle white dog who adores her ! Sydney's Aunt Meg and Uncle Joe left her the ranch and she loves being thee far from the interference of others. She's had bad experiences and her former boyfriend, the sheriff is one of them. She dated him until she was humiliated by knowing he was a married man ! He still comes by trying to wangle his way back into her life. What a sleaze ! And Sydney's not having it !
When "the man" shows up at her door she greets him with a shotgun until she lets him sleep in the barn. With the goats and other animals. Home, who is the old man who helps out on the ranch is stunned that she did that and continually warns her of the dangers ! Yes, she totally understands that though. Homer cares about her and the ranch. And this newbie doesn't have a clue to what he's doing but he wants to learn and soon shows a lot of interest in Sydney. The trouble really takes off, after he remembers his first name and slowing starts to remember more. Then it really hits the fan.
I loved both independent, skilled caring, isolated, Sydney and her mystery man who as he remembers seems to have some stealth skills as well. It was a great story, charming romance with enough sweet animals and thrilling dangers to keep things interesting ! I would really like to read more of her books.

When I read the synopsis for this book I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was quite sure it would get really old, really fast...Boy was I wrong. This was far better than I thought it would be.

The plot was so interesting. This handsome stranger wandered to an unsuspecting woman’s house late at night unable to remember anything about himself. Although reluctant, she agrees to help him. This sets a whole lot of events in motion. I loved the mild mystery aspect of it and enjoyed seeing everything unfold. How Jameson’s memory would slowly come back to him. How kind and sweet Sydney was to him.

The chemistry between the main characters were electric. They both had beautiful personalities so it was easy to believe their story and fall in love with them. Syd’s animals were the cutest things. I loved how she even talked to them, being an animal lover myself, I just loved how she and Jameson interacted with them.

My favorite part of the book was the epilogue. It didn’t just wrap up their story with a HEA but I got to see snippets of their future. From their engagement, their wedding day. There was even a beautiful scene of them settling well into married life. I did not want this book to end. Very satisfied with this one.

This is my first time reading from this author and it will not be my last.

This story just grabs you from the first page. It is a bit of a mystery and a bit of a romance all rolled into one.

Sydney is one tough lady who is running her goat farm pretty much by herself. She has not had good luck with men in the past and is tired of spending her birthdays alone. So she makes a wish, a big one, that she figures is just dreaming and would never have a chance to come true.

Jameson finds himself at Sydney’s door with her pointing a gun at him. He has no memory of who he is, where he is from or what happened to him. He is pretty beat up and looking like he is about to pass out. Sydney takes pity on him and lets him sleep in the barn.

The two of them try to figure out Jameson’s past but it looks like there is some very nasty stuff in it and it is about to be brought into Sydney’s homestead. As the mystery of who Jameson is, why there is trouble lurking, is the local law enforcement involved start to come together, you find yourself not wanting to put the book down.

Stopping here because I do not want to spoil it for anyone and this is truly a must read.

WONDERFUL!

A injured stranger stumbles up to Sydney's isolated ranch in the dark of night. He didn't know who he is or what had happened. Against all common sense the single Sydney bandages him up and lets him sleep in the barn. That begins a wonderful story as they go through the next few days discovering each other. But the reason he is there begins to become threatening as it becomes obvious bad people are looking for him. He doesn't know if he is a bad guy or good guy, but he wants to discover being a good guy... and so does Sydney. Things become very tense as it appears they are both in danger now.... the stranger makes Sydney a promise to protect her even though he knows it could possibly cost both of them their lives.... and he still doesn't know who he is or exactly why they are being threatened.

I absolutely adored the opening of this story. Danae paints such a vivid, albeit sad, picture of Sydney's birthday and thus life. You feel a connection to her right away. Anyone who has ever lived alone will know that talking to your pets is perfectly normal.

And her birthday wish shows up on her doorstep, though perhaps not how she planned. The mystery revolving around the "unexpected cowboy" makes the story suspenseful and gives the story substance other than the chemistry surrounding your two main characters.

I give a a four instead of five star because I felt a bit deflated after the climax and the epilogue felt too drawn out for me. I would have preferred that it ended after the first major life even for the two characters. Despite that, I would still recommend the book and I do plan on continuing with the series!

From the beginning when Jameson walked up to Sydney's farmhouse after being beaten and left on the side of the road with no memories of who he is and how he got there and she greets him with a shotgun, this suspenseful romance had me hooked. He knows someone is after him and that he can’t trust the local law enforcement, but he has to solve the mystery of who and why before Sydney is hurt in the crossfire. Sydney was hurt by men she dated in past, so she is understandably wary and afraid to let him into her heart especially with the bad guys closing in. There was plenty of humor as Jameson learns how to care for her goats and that he can’t cook. This was a clean, suspenseful, funny, and sweet romance.

Sydney hides out at her goat ranch. She is happy with her simple, peaceful life. She is grateful for the ranch left to her by her aunt and uncle. She is distrustful of men as she doesn't have a great history with men. Even though she is lonely, she likes "safe". As she is celebrating her birthday with her pets, her dog begins to growl. A man who is hurt and doesn't remember who he is shows up on her doorstep. She agrees to let him sleep in the barn.

Jameson has no idea who he is or what happened to him. He feels lost and confused. Sydney agrees to let him work on the farm until he can decide where to go.

I liked this book. So interesting to see how Jameson pieces together his memories.

Her Unexpected Cowboy

Sydney lived on her reach outside of town, with her goats and other animals. It was her AuntMag and Uncle Joes place where she spent her summers as a child. Jameson an injured man showed up at her ranch one night with no memory and some bad injuries. Homer was the hired man and had been on the ranch for years. Will the married sheriff was a manipulator and a bad influence on Sydney till someone broke the news to her that he was a play boy but also a married man. This was a very interesting and intriguing book to read. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

Didn't realize was clean until half way through

Great interesting , thrilling, exciting story with fabulous characters. So well written and packed with going's on that it took a while to realize I wasn't haven't to skip scenes due to every detail about lustful thoughts or actions were being shared. Other than a couple kisses and one shirtless scene it was kept to a minimum and bot the main focus of the story. Kept me riveted in what was going on and how it would turn out and I've read it a couple tines already. Great read. No language other than one 'd' word (as in it blocks water from flowing downstream).

A tale of a very strong and determined woman who is tired of being alone, makes a birthday wish. To her surprise, it’s answered way sooner than expected. But with it will come risking her heart and danger. It doesn’t help that the guy who turns up has lost his memory and so can’t remember why he there. The chemistry of these two is undeniable and they will go to extreme lengths to prove their love. A brilliant read. Look forward to more in the series

I received this as an arc and I am giving my honest review voluntarily

Be Careful What You Wish For

When Sydney answers an unexpected knock on the night of her birthday, she isn't prepared for the overwhelming presence of the man on her porch. With her shotgun loaded and aimed she questions him and then agrees to let him sleep in her barn.

Jameson has no idea what has happened to him but he is grateful for the woman who is letting him sleep in her barn. As he struggles to get his memory back, it becomes clear that he has brought more than his tattered body to her doorstep. Can he figure things out before she is hurt? ~

When wishes come true

Sydney lives alone, having given up on men, but on her birthday jokingly makes a wish for a tall, handsome man with green eyes. Imagine her surprise when a tall, handsome man with green eyes turns up on her doorstop, injured and without any memory. Taking pity on him, she allows him to stay the night in her barn. I loved how Sydney talked to her animals and her kindness to others. I liked the glimpses into Jamieson's past as memories returned. Good clean reading, and I look forward to the next books in the series.

Modern Cowboy Romance
I love this story! It takes place on a Wyoming mountain goat farm, something to which I can personally relate. The plot and characters are great. It is somewhat of an action adventure with a to-die-for hero and a strong heroine. There is nothing not to like here. It would make a great movie. I would love to read an entire series based on this book. Great Job! I received this book for free and this is my honest review.

I received a complimentary copy of Her Unexpected Cowboy. I am freely leaving my review.

Loved this story. Love stories of suspense and love mixed together. Sydney has lived two years on her own looking after her goats. Jameson comes along, but he has lost his memory. Yet the instinct to look after Sydney is there. The story moves along well and the development of the story is great. Look forward to the next one.

This is a delightful clean romance that takes an unexpected turn. Sydney grabbed me from the first as she celebrated a solitary birthday. Unfortunately, solitary is the theme of Syd`s life. Jameson`s arrival was intrusive, unexpected and disturbing on multiple fronts. There are elements of this story that have been done repeatedly but Ms. Little manages to give them a unique twist. I loved this story. It kept me turning pages until the very end.

A book with a little bit of something for everyone! Sydney is running a goat ranch bequeathed to by her aunt and uncle. Little does she know how her life would change when a beat-up Jameson shows up on her porch with amnesia. He can’t remember things but they just seem right or wrong by his gut or the hair on the back of his neck. Nicely written and at times a suspenseful love story until memories start to come back.

A Sweet Romance of a Goat Rancher and a Federal Investigator

Sydney spent lots of time on her aunt and uncle's goat ranch. She spent lots of time learning to take care of the goats. Goats were raised for their production of goats milk and goat cheese. The earnings of the ranch depended on sales of the milk, cheese, and excess any goats for people who wanted to start their own operation.

Read about Sydney and her involvement with goat ranching and the FBI.

Be careful what you wish for.

Syd makes her own birthday cake and lights the candles, but she has no one with whom to share her big day. As she blows out the candles of loneliness, she makes a wish. The candle wicks are still warm when someone approaches her house.
A gripping story of how Syd's wish comes true, although initially it could have been her worst nightmare.
A little suspense mixed with a sweet clean romance.
