When a lover turns up dead, the police come asking questions of Dr. Blackwell and he has no answers. Whispers about a scandalous sex club surface. How many other lovers are there? Are any of them safe? How far would he go to protect his reputation? Is this man a sociopath who can kill without remorse?

My Rating:

4.5

Favorite Quotes:

The practice of law came down to which lawyer was a better actor, whose clients lied with more finesse, and who could put out the fires the quickest when your case exploded in real time.

At some point, I would have to ask Mary if I could look inside her bottomless bag. And maybe even set up a duplicate one for me. Weapons and candy, every girl’s dream.

These are times I wish I could get the hang of meditation or maybe comfortable enough to keep a bottle of Jack Daniel’s in my drawer.

I’m always disappointed when a liar’s pants didn’t catch on fire.

My Review:

I am shocked to realize I had started feeling sorry for these surprisingly likable lawyers. I will admit to considering their general ilk a necessary evil in navigating the justice system (emphasis on the evil), and rate close to loan sharks in my level of esteem. However, this boutique law firm of feisty ladies set out to be of a different sort as they actually had principles and standards about whom they chose to represent. Although determining a client’s guilt or culpability can be a difficult judgment call, one made even more complicated when unknowingly dealing with sociopaths. And unfortunately, they seem to have landed in a nest of vipers with bizarre happenings quickly mushrooming from bad to worse.

The storylines were complex yet interesting, twisty, and intriguing. As with her previous books in the series, Ms. McGillick shrewdly tucks and folds levity and ironic wit in among the tension and suspense to balance out the strain of uncertainty and distressing revelations. My favorite cunning and spry octogenarian, Mary, was back with her infamous handbag, stylized weapons, and wry wit. New members were added to the legal team who were required to hit the ground running with the sudden unexpected influx of complicated cases. The new attorneys couldn’t have been more dissimilar; I enjoyed them both but was totally enamored with the rigid and robotic Mr. Martin’s computer-like brain and cataloging of obscure information, he was a well-dressed and well-seasoned Sheldon Cooper. The most compelling characters were the various nightmarish clients and their questionable lifestyles, as well as their victims. I am gleefully looking forward to the next book in the series as Ms. McGillick promised to provide more of the oddly peculiar Mr. Martin.

Brilliantly and intelligently written.

2 very intriguing characters - Mr. Martin and Poppy.

However I was totally disappointing in Dalia. I floved her in previous books, but this case didn't bring her any honour. And her attitude toward surrogacy was unpleasant to me.

No justice. They won the cases, but two real villains escaped the justice. It didn't even help, that they killed the asshole at the end. He deserved the verdict 'guilty'. So many abhorrent humans escape karma in RL, I want them to hurt at least in books.

Maybe the book had deeper meaning, sorry, but I didn't get me.

The ending made me mad and sad.

Still looking forward to the next book... with more justice I hope!!!

Poppy joins the law firm and straight away is working on the Blackwell case, with other more experienced colleagues, in this taut thriller. I love Mary…..with her bottomless handbag and weapons, it made a change to have a strong mature woman character. Mr Martin, not sure if I like him or not…..but still a great believable character too.

This is a fine plotted courtroom drama, with some lovely twisty revelations amongst the dark of the murders and Dr Blackwell’s narcissistic psychopathic behaviour…is he innocent ?…..marvellous writing by K J McGillick…, I loved every minute…..

Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources for a free copy of the ebook. This is my honest, unbiased review.

Who really can you trust in life? Your spouse? Your doctor? Your lawyer? Can you even trust yourself to do the right thing?

In TRUST ME I set up challenges people face in life. How will each person navigate the challenge presented once their world is rocked? Can a spouse ever trust a serial philanderer to protect her heart? Can lovers always trust each other? Can a doctor always be trusted to always safeguard his patient's interest? Can a lawyer be trusted not to betray client confidence when the question of morality faces him head on? Can a jury be trusted to get the verdict right?

Greed and betrayal is the theme of TRUST ME and how it affects trust on every level possible.

In this particular book, I've drawn from my past medical background in nursing and my present legal experience to round out my characters. As always I've infused a touch of my passion for art and rare books in the mix.

Keep your eye on Mr. Martin, you'll be seeing a lot more of him and Mary in the next book.

Lawd have mercy, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this crazy law firm full of so many smart & colorful people, and they've added two more to the bunch. But let me give you a small preview over the newest K.J. McGillick mystery. It's about a slutty doctor named Dr. Gabriel Blackwell, who can't seem to keep it in his pants, and that's not breaking any law, but when one of the nurses he works with is murdered, and he's the main suspect, well yeah, it's looking a bit shady. Oh but it gets worse, she was pregnant to boot. So you would think that it couldn't get worse, but you would be wrong, but it's not long after all of this, his wife is found dead. Now how the hell are the attorneys going to get him out of this jam? And is he even innocent? Let me tell you there are so many freaking twists & turns that it's not even funny, or maybe it is. I got to the point that I was laughing and dropping f-bombs at the same time, because I couldn't tell you if he was guilty or was being set up, or was guilty. See where my head was? It changed with every chapter. What didn't change is that I was so happy to see Mary again, and now there's Mr. Martin who kept me laughing with his general crankiness. So yeah, I LOVED every minute of this story, and CANNOT WAIT for the next book! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Sex. Power. Murder.
Dr. Gabriel Blackwell and his wife Sandra Blake have it all. He’s a brilliant thoracic surgeon. She’s a high-powered attorney with family money. Their lives are as loving as they are glamorous.
Or are they?
When a nurse Dr. Blackwell works with is brutally murdered, the questions fly. Who would want to kill this woman and why? When an autopsy reveals the woman was pregnant, all signs point to Dr. Blackwell. Just what was her relationship with him?
Whispers about a scandalous sex club surface. How many other lovers are there? Are any of them safe? How far would he go to protect his reputation?
Tragedy strikes again as Sandra Blake is found dead floating in their pool. Dr. Blackwell now finds himself on trial for two murders. Facing life in prison, Dr. Blackwell will grasp at any straw to preserve his freedom.
Any straw.
Is anyone innocent? Is anyone safe?

A superb book to help tie all these together.
A non stop thriller that keeps you gripped until the very end.
Very well written story line and love the plot once again.
Very strong well written character yet again.
Love this authors books and will read more.
Recommend reading.

Another brilliant book from K. J. McGillick, this is one of the reason I love doing blog tours. I get to read books from such a wide range of authors and K. J. McGillick is now one author, that I will read anything she writes.

This book starts with a new recruit to the established team, Poppy. Poppy helps with the case of Dr Gabriel Blackwell, a decidedly unpleasant man who finds himself caught in two legal cases. First his lover, is found murdered and then his wife is found floating in their pool. Dahlia although repulsed by the man represents him in both cases along with the team.

It was great to be back with the team, I love Mary, again they find themselves in a difficult position with a client they aren’t convinced is innocent. A well written book, the story moves at pace and I can’t wait for the next one.

I stormed through Trust Me with more than a couple of gasps. Intricately woven, I found myself tense and compelled to keep reading. To discover whether Dr Blackwell is innocent or not then you will need to grab yourself a copy, but he is definitely not a likeable character. The legal team were an interesting mix which really added to the tale. This was so wonderfully intense and intriguing. I looked forward to every page and was regularly second guessing my assumptions. I needed to know what would happen next.I have always enjoyed a gritty courtroom thriller and Trust Me delivered that with a hefty level of suspense. I have read Ms McGillick before and will undoubtedly read her again. She's penned a great tale with fascinating characters who, like or hate them, I wanted to know more about.

Thank you to the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the fist time I read from this author. When I read the blurb I imagine I will get a super exciting plot but the story doesn’t really quite pump up my adrenaline while reading.

It’s a 3 stars for me. However I believe the author is heading towards the right way to a fabulous story with emotion rollercoaster next time.

Wonderful, fantastic. I couldn't have enjoyed a book more. The story lines were great, the characters unforgettable and the legalese spot on. I could not put the book down. Didn't even stop to make a meal, just grabbed nibbles here and there.
I have spent over 50 years working in the law and often wondered how lawyers were able to defend a client they knew was guilty. I know every person is entitled to representation, but to be able to put forth a meaningful defense when you are aware of the guilt of your client, has always amazed me.
In any case, I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the law, how it works, and how it can be, and is so often been, circumvented. I know I will be looking to read more in this series.

I've read several books written by K.J. McGillick; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the fourth book in the Lies & Misdirection Series; it can be read as a stand-alone book but would be better if read in order.
