The hero’s journey doesn’t always end after the Dark Lord has been slain.
After being betrayed by the very kingdom he saved, Jacob Stone forsook his title of Hero. Now he lives the simple life of a barkeep. Yet even that life is irrevocably erased when a young woman named Enyo appears before him.
She claims to be the daughter of the former Dark Lord and has come seeking his aid. He’d normally never consider lending her a hand, but when she tells him that she knows of a way for him to return home, he’s left with little recourse.
His journey will take him across the kingdom of Terrasole, toward the place where it all began. If he succeeds, he’ll return to the home he’d been stolen from. If he fails… well, he won’t live long enough to regret failing.

Brandon Varnell is the author of several book series, all of which involve anime-inspired fanservice. Having been an anime nerd for basically his whole life, his books tend to reflect that. He likes writing stories with loads of T&A, shonen-style battle scenes, and steamy romances that are both light-hearted and erotic. He is also a huge fan of harem anime, so most of his books feature harem romances. If that bothers you, you probably shouldn't read his books.

I’ve been following and reading Brandon’s books for awhile and currently support him on Patreon. I’m also a fairly large fan of the Iseaki transported to another world genre. To look at his newest release, as a series, it’s planned to be fairly compact just two volumes. Personally I would feel he succeeds well in this setting with quickly jumping into the action with fun and witty dialogue from the prologue to the end of the first volume. Making me wish for the second volume now. This isn’t the story of a character coming fresh to the world, this is the story of once all the work is done, and still a potential journey of the cycle that leads to heroes being summoned. Looking at the pacing and content, it does remind me of early volumes in a series that kicked off my interest in the genre, with Sword Art Online. Jumping right into the story with a skilled character, and defined goal and objective. I could see it doing well in a light novel contest over there.
If you do like a well paced story with fun dialogue, and joining characters on their journey, it’s worth checking out
If you have read any of the author 's previous work, then you have a good idea of what to expect.
I got what I expected out of this book. A fun little adventure, with some fights and a good story of a hero that is not too happy with how things turned out. Expect an Anime book and you shouldn't have anything to complain about. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. I know that I will be looking for more.
I’m sorry but this started to get downright stupid at the end of this novel. I normally like about everything this author writes but this one ended in such a terrible way that I just couldn’t stomach it. I honestly don’t like it so much that I don’t think I’m going to read the sequel to it. I would not recommend this book to anybody who likes this type of genre. All of the correct elements of there and it’s even written in the right style but it lacks the heroics at the end that most of these books end with.
When I read the blurb for this novel, it sounded like an interesting read. Most isekai I've encountered are about the hero fighting the war against the dark/demon Lord. This is what happens after. The fact that Brandon Barbell has a hero who is tired of war, manipulation and the betrayal of those he fought for makes for an interesting character. Add in the Dark Lord's Daughter and it's bound to be an interesting read!
I’ve read a number of Brandon’s book now as an avid light novel fan, and this has to be my least favourite series of his. I had hopes for something more original from him having deviated away from ‘To love ru’esque novels in this series but I felt it lacking without anything ‘unique’ that I love in light novels. The cliff hanger ending, whilst reminiscent of light novels, was too big for a first in the series and angers me as a reader. Unsure if I’ll continue this series.
I've had this sitting in my kindle for far to long, but finally got to reading it. Guess the current pandemic is good for something at least. This was an excellent read, as I've come to expect from the few books I've read from the author. It feels just like an actual Japanese light novel that should get adapted into an anime, and I look forward to the second part of this series.
This was an interesting take on a familiar subject. The story of the hero after he has defeated the end game boss. It was an enjoyable read. The story and characters were intriguing and engaging. I look forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures. This book is definitely worth reading.
Whelp, it was fun, but not that good. Since I know this wasn’t written for my particular demographic, I won’t pick it apart, but boy, I wanted a red pencil so I could edit the shit out of this story.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was not a first person ( which is not for me) which a lot of manga that I can afford are. I like the way that the main characters work together, love the perv sword with the dumb jokes. Overall a very good read.
While I enjoyed the story of didn't take long to figure out it reads like a prequel to a short lived anime series called astetica of a rouge hero while some things are changed there are clear parallels that border on theft
Predictable, so obvious. Cliche characters. A well used storyline is fine if told well with a bit of twist to make it your own. This has none of that. It was far to obvious and all the characters were flat.
It was an Ok read for me. . . . To be honest, I really liked the beginning and it sounded so promising, but as the story developed I started loosing interest. I struggled a lot to finish it.
The story is interesting, but there were some grammar issues and some of the scenarios are annoying, but good read overall. If you like isekai you may like this book.
