Another great collection by Nicolette Andrews. A priestess and a dragon must work together to defeat the monster, while she hides her true identity from him. Enjoyed the world she created in this book and depth of the characters. It brought you into their world.

Good book but......

I really, really want to give to more than three stars.
But I felt all three books dragged on too, long. It took all of my stubborn will to finish book three.
I could not sympathise with Suzume, because for me she didn’t grow as a person until at the end of book three.
Her stubbornness was really wearing thin halfway through book two, I nearly quit reading it then. The other characters didn’t grow ever, they were just there as a supportive role. The only one who did grow was Rin the Kitsune. Her character developed well. It was almost like the author found it easier to write her rather than Suzume.
I do offer a warning though if you have not read this sort of book before I fear you would not understand half of what’s going on, or what most objects are, there was no descriptiveness for new readers to say “Ah ok that’s what that is”
As an anime fan I grasped it quit quickly and new what almost all the terms meant. (still had to look up a few)
All, in all the plot was good, and despite Suzume stubbornness I will still be buying the next book.

Redundant and boring

Every chapter is the same. There is very little in the way of character development or plot building. Angry dragon, spoiled princes, and a constant flow of reaffirming these two main points. Boring. And yes I read the whole thing. A sucker born every day.

A fantasy romance boxed set this book brings me so much joy! The Dragon Saga Books 1-3 by Nicolette Andrews engaged me from the first page and kept me coming back for more. The author introduces readers to a young priestess, former princess, exiled. She is performing a ceremony with the other priestesses on the mountain when something strange happens. The barrier that surrounds the shrine is harder for her to get through...she finds it strange and notices no one else has that issue. This is just one of many events to come that will trigger the release of the dragon who has been imprisoned there for over 500 years. Once he is free, his plan is to hunt down the descendants of the priestess who imprisoned and betrayed him and end their existence. But there is a more impending truth and twist of Fate that they must both come to terms with and fight against if they are to survive. The dragon was once the balance of the area, and with him taken away things were thrown out of balance. The author raises the question...can these two move past their differences to heal the world? Or will darkness win?
When I first started reading this book it was to see if there was any correlation to one of my favorite animes of all time...Inuyasha. I have to admit...that I was NOT disappointed. I saw the similarities and tie-ins quite often and I loved every minute of it. That is probably what ended up hooking me in the most when it came to this story/series/saga. Seeing the two characters go back and forth and then the gradual addition of others...I practically devoured this book. There are hints of romance throughout and I love how it develops and even falters at times. The author sprinkles in moments of humor in the right moments that had me giggling and eagerly page-turning to see what was going to happen next. I loved the appropriately placed flashbacks and reflective moments that gave me more insight into the characters and who they once were in a past life.
Normally, when characters are being bratty, snotty or just plain arrogant I want to reach through the book and smack them, but oddly enough...I never had that compulsion with these characters. If I didn't know any better I'd say the author cast a spell to keep me from that. LOL! There are some moments of disappointment in the characters, but I felt that this just added to the quality of the story. It brought the characters to life more and helped take them to another level.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I couldn't get enough of these characters and I loved how this book lured me in with the hints of one of my favorite anime throughout. If you love a good fantasy novel/boxed set then this is a good choice to make. The characters will lure you in, and the storyline will keep you engaged to the end. I can see myself to returning to these books in the future to revisit and relive their journey with them again and again.

This boxset of the first three books of the Dragon Saga is a great value way to read what is a long but engaging story. Rooted in Japanese mythology and legends, this tale of adventure, romance and magic is really interesting and enjoyable. I'm glad I read it on my kindle though, so I had access to the dictionary for quick reference when the unfamiliar Japanese words came up that weren't explained in the text. I did find the key figures irritating at times - Suzume is a useless stereotypical princess, and never learns from her mistakes, while Kaito is an arrogant bully of a man who thinks he's always right. But if you can look past that irritation, you'll find a story unwinding that will draw you in and keep you hooked and wanting more. If you like stories based on myths and legends, this saga will really suit you, and I really recommend the boxset for both price and easy reading! I just wish the next book was already available, as the cliffhanger ending has really left me wanting more!
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
Individual Books:
Book 1 The Priestess and the Dragon (4*) 10-12/4
This first book in the Dragon Saga was a good story, and a great introduction to Japanese mythology. However, I did find the key figures irritating- Suzume is a useless stereotypical princess, and never learns from her mistakes, while Kaito is an arrogant bully of a man who thinks he's always right. But if you can look past that irritation, you'll find a story unwinding (albeit slowly!) that will draw you in and keep you hooked and wanting more.
Book 2 - The Sea Stone (4*) 13-15/4
I liked this second book in the Dragon Saga, as Suzume starts to think for herself and stop being a useless stereotypical female. I also liked that Kaito got a dose of being human for a while, and hope it might make him realise how tough things are for Suzume and not be so rough on her... though I doubt it! A good read, and with such a cliffhanger ending, I'm glad I've got book 3 ready to read!!
Book 3 - The Song of The Wind (5*) 17-21/4
This final book in the boxset is full of more action than the others, and we really see true character development happening. We also find out the truth behind the story of Suzume's birth and her family, who all her companions really are and their links, and see the tensions between the humans and yokai come to a head. An excellent story, thrilling finale to the boxset, but the frustrating cliffhanger ending leaves you wanting more!

Fresh. Fierce. & a Dragon

Dragon Saga 1-3

A feudal kingdom now has a castaway princess turned priestess. Her seclusion to the temple turns to be her destiny but this strong willed priestess will forge her own path.

An ancient dragon wakes and now she will struggle to stay alive in the midst of magic, spirits, yokai & Kami.

This was a beautifully written visual steeped in Japanese mythos. The characters are dynamic and unpredictably real.

Suzume and her companions continue their adventure steeped in mystism and folklore in search for the Eight and the missing parts of a shattered soul.

All the while the Dragon searches out his seat of power in order to reestablish and unite Akatsuki. Will it be for the Yokai, the humans or will the two find balance and harmony?

I’ve read the first of these books and loved it enough that I feel comfortable recommending the whole bookset.

Here’s my review of that first book:

I love the story in Nicolette Andrews’ The Priestess and the Dragon (Dragon Saga Book 1). The whole concept of a smart-mouthed priestess like Suzume bring exiled from glitter to a remote mountain shrine, where she is to live in poverty and be trained to become a priestess, only to discover that she’s the reincarnation of the lover who jilted the arrogant dragon she’s awakened and which now wants to use her as his tool for revenge against herself (NR knowing who she actually is)? Perfect, even if kinda complicated to even try to actually explain. An exciting tale in which Suzume discovers new powers, takes on a whole lot of problems and delivers one heck of a fun ride for we readers. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

Addendum: ok, I’ve read the other two books now, in one mighty binge as they were too addictive to put down. As I suspected would be the case, the quality and enjoyability (if that’s even a word) more than held up. Totally fun.

Although I loved the story, there were times when I could have shaken Suzume for being a whinging child!
I have to accept that she had lived a life of luxury and decadence and was then rudely thrown into a situation that she had no experience of and was a real culture shock to her.
This set by Nicolette Andrews is not exactly my cup of tea but, I will have to give her another go.
Read it and make your own mind up.

Lots of twists and magic

It's taken me awhile to read through these. The narrative is full of twists and turns. Normally I don't get on well with twists, but the characters kept me reading wanting to know how their story goes. Lots of shape shifters and mythical creatures. Book 2 had some crossed out words... So I can't give five stars, but this only distracted slightly. The ending of book three is powerful, well worth reading the three books to get there.

Not bad... Could have been better

I really felt it had a great start. However, halfway through the second book I felt a lot if names or characters were thrown in or interchangeable. There where lots or twists almost too many leaving no room for character development. The end felt rushed, trying to close all the random open plot twists. As someone else posted the first bit felt like I was reading Inuyasha and the rest was just lost.

Epic!

Love this series! So much packed into every page. An amazing journey, fun and unique characters that are so much fun getting to know. Suzume comes into her own as the books progress. Kaito is a strong personality that must learn to love and trust again after being betrayed by his love.

Meh

Poorly written with a whiny main female. Couldn’t get past the first book. This was poorly written with grammatical errors peppered all over the place. Storyline keeps going round and round, hard to follow and not making sense. Glad I didn’t waste my life away finishing reading this, and I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who gave this book what it deserved.

I was so excited to read this.. but chapter after chapter I felt like I was just reading the same thing different situation over and over again. She gets herself into a pickle and he rescues her but they refuse to talk and be friendly. Just slow moving. I may make a come back and try to read it again one day but for some reason I just couldn't get into it.

The Dragon Saga

Really enjoyed reading these three books. It's a little difficult to follow with as many characters with similar sounding names. There's a lot of action and things going on but in the end it levels out a bit. Highly recommend reading you just need to pay attention to the characters as you go.

I liked the storyline and that the author takes time to develop the characters and the world in which they live.

You really get to know the characters and their journey offers a lot of adventure and fun.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

If you like Inuyasha, you'll like this.

Wow. Very well written. Richly told story with interesting characters. Character development is really slow and pride is exaggerated to the tenth degree, but considering the social circle and time frame. . .Lots of plot twist.

Story and world building

This was my first series by nicolette and she did a good job building the world around the characters. May not continue with the worlds other books, but will keep in mind for future

I truly loved this journey, excitement, trials and triumphs, anger and a slew of emotions. I laughed and cried as these characters learned more about themselves and their “friends”. Loved, loved this series, hard to put down. Thank you Nicolette Andrews for the journey.
