Sage first studied medicine, but changed her mind and went to Art School in Leicester. There she studied Graphic Design and Illustration. She began illustrating books after college. Simpatica povestea si Araminta este super haioasa impreuna cu Wanda. Nu imi place limbajul neaparat, a trebuit sa le explic copiilor de ce tot isi spun personajele "taci". Ilustratiile ajuta firul povestii.

Melanjutkan seri pertama, Araminta kembali beraksi dalam seri kedua Pedang Dalam Gua. Kali ini, Araminta tidak bertualang sendirian. Dia sudah punya teman bernama Wanda Wizzard, yang bersama ayah dan ibunya, mereka juga ikut tinggal di Spookie House. Tidak seperti orang dewasa yang menuntut privasi, bagi anak-anak semakin banyak orang maka akan semakin asyik, dan ini disadari betul oleh Angie Sage yang langsung menambahkan 5 penghuni baru ke rumah seram tapi menyenangkan itu. Sekarang Spookie House semakin ramai. Araminta jadi punya partner dalam bertualang, sementara Bibi Tabby dan Paman Drac kini mendapatkan teman baru untuk diajak bergosip dan membicarakan tentang bisnis kotoran kelelawar (iyuhh … please don’t ask, read it yourself).
Dalam seri kedua yang lebih ramai ini, petualangan yang hadir lebih menarik ketimbang yang pertama, dan melibatkan lebih banyak orang. Tapi, Sage masih mempertahankan karakter Araminta yang bikin gemes itu, cuma kali ini, karakter sok tahu dan tidak mau kalah Araminta mulai kelihatan. Karakter asli seseorang mulai terlihat nyata ketika dia berteman akrab dengan orang lain, dan di buku kedua ini, Wanda menjadi semacam tokoh yang mempengaruhi perkembangan karakter Araminta. Yah, namanya juga anak kecil, kalau nggak bandel ya ngak rame.
Ceritanya, Tuan Horace hendak berulang tahun yang ke-500, dan Araminta serta Wanda berencana untuk memberikan hadiah kejutan kepada hantu penunggu Spookie House itu. Tapi, hadiah apa yang tepat diberikan untuk hantu berbaju zirah berusia 500 tahun? Jawabannya muncul secara tidak sengaja ketika keduanya mengikuti ayah Wanda untuk mengantarkan pesanan pupuk kompos ke lading jamur di dekat pantai. Dalam kegiatan keluyuran keduanya ke gua-gua di tepi laut, mereka melihat sebuah pedang tua tergeletak dalam sebuah bilik yang terkurung batu karang. Tidak ada celah untuk masuk ke bilik itu kecuali sebuah pintu rahasia yang entah mengarah kemana. Araminta dan Wanda pun membuat rencana.
Telah dijelaskan di buku ketiga (yang saya kutip di resensi buku pertama *ribet banget lu, Yon!*) bahwa Spookie House memiliki sebuah terowongan rahasia. Nah, Araminta dengan sok tahunya lalu memutuskan bahwa terowongan rahasia itu pasti mengarah ke ruang pedang itu. Maka, dengan membawa segulung benang (benang sangat penting jika kau ingin menjelajahi terowongan rahasia), senter, seransel makanan, dua anak bandel ini nekat menjelajahi terowongan rahasia yang entah kemana ujungnya. Karena ini cerita anak-anak dan kalau terlalu tebal juga tidak baik, Araminta benar. Terowongan itu memang mengarah ke ruang pedang. Tetapi, begitu mereka masuk, pintu jeruji turun dan mengurung keduanya di ruang pedang, dengan air laut yang mengucur dan terus memenuhi ruang rahasia tersebut. Araminta dan Wanda dalam bahaya.
Buku kedua ini mengingatkan saya pada seri Lima Sekawan karya Enyd Blynton. Kalau tidak salah, mereka juga menemukan sebuah lorong rahasia di balik perapian yang mengarah ke lorong pencoleng. Membaca buku ini membuat saya bernostalgia ke masa-masa unyu dulu, ketika hasrat bertualang masih sama besarnya dengan Araminta. Di buku kedua ini pula, pembaca akan mengetahui siapa sebenarnya Tuan Horace dan Edmund, serta kisah tragis keduanya. Tapi jangan khawatir, meski agak berbahaya, buku kedua ini tetap menawarkan percakapan kocak khas antara Araminta dan Wanda, juga celetukan-celetukan Araminta yang suka seenaknya sendiri memutuskan.
Keripik kentang rasa bawang dan keju bisa mambantu berpikir. Aku yakin itu karena setelah kami memakannya, kami tahu harus kemana.

Berhasilkan keduanya selamat dari ruang pedang? Akankah Tuan Horace mendapatkan hadiah istimewa itu? Jawabannya: YA! Hahahaha. Buku anak-anak, jadi endingnya nggak boleh sad ending dong, apalagi cliffhanger. Menyenangkan sekali menyelesaikan membaca seri kedua ini.

The second book in the Araminta Spookie book picks up where the last one left off. Araminta becomes better friends with a former enemy, and together they try to bring a sword found in a grotto home to Sir Horace for his birthday. When they are trapped in the grotto by the rising sea, it seems all hope will be lost...!
I probably would not have continued the series after finding the first book only so-so, but Books 1 and 2 come together on a (very short) audiobook and as I had nothing else to listen to on my commute I decided to go ahead. This book was more about friendship and kindness than the first book, so I appreciated that. But, it also felt a little more bland in terms of the plot. Some children will probably enjoy the scary-but-not-too-scary "action" and "suspense" as Araminta and her friend are stuck in the grotto. And I'm sure many laughs will be had about Uncle Drac's "bat poo" manure business ;-p But, all in all, the book was just okay for me. I probably won't carry on with the series.

This is the second book in the Araminta Spookie series by Angie Sage. I discovered this book at our local library and thought it might be a fun, spooky read for our oldest. She loved it and has read through the entire series very quickly. Now I'm just trying to catch up.
This story centers on plans for a birthday party for Sir Horace and an adventure into some caves and spooky tunnels. The story is entertaining and a little scary. It's an easy read and I really enjoyed reading it. I'm looking forward to the next book, Frognapped.

buku #2 seri araminta spook. masih tetep ketemu kekepoan araminta, dan sekarang double trouble, karena araminta punya teman serumah yg sama sotoy-nya, wanda wizzard.
di cerita ini, mereka berdua ingin mencari kado ultah buat sir horace -si hantu berbaju besi- yg ke-500. hadiahnya sih udah tahu apa, tapi untuk mengambilnya ternyata menyeret minty dan wanda ke petualangan berbahaya yg hampir membuat keduanya mengalami nasib sama dng sir horace.
suka cerita petualangannya, suka settingnya yg lbh luas dan memasukkan tokoh2 baru, suka karakter araminta, suka karakter wanda, tapi kok rasanya cerita pertemanan araminta-wanda ini belum klop benar ya, tidak seperti... uhm, katakanlah septimus-beetle yg dr awal sdh terasa pas buanged. semoga di kisah berikutnya, mereka berdua bisa jauh lebih kompak dalam kejahilan :D

Araminta Spook's second story (as told to Angie Sage) is a Perilous Adventure that she and her new friend Wanda get themselves into when they need to find the perfect gift for a 500th Birthday Present....
Araminta's attitude is all present and correct (or self-centred) but doesn't get the free play it did in her first book, where the order of the day was Mayhem and Ghost-hunting, rather than Danger and Gift-hunting.
The Sword in the Grotto is perhaps not quite as good as its predecessor but is still a heap of fun (not bat poo).

This book is the second in this early-chapter-books series we just discovered by Angie Sage.
We really enjoyed listening to this one on our recent road trip. It really kept my kid's attention. The characters were fun, with distinct personalities, and the story was interesting and funny. The kidlets have a new-found love for bats.

Ilustrasinya tetep juara! Mantap bangeth, deh.
Cerita sih khas anak-anak, sebuah petualangan yang mudah terselesaikan dan semua berbahagia di akhirnya...:)
Tapi, persahabatan di antara Araminta dan Wanda serta kekeluargaan di antara keluarga mereka serta dua hantu baik hati yang tinggal di rumah mereka, Edmund dan Sir Horace, memberikan warna yang menyenangkan.

A strange family plan a birthday party.
A reasonable story, but a bit too much whining from one of the characters and half the plot didn’t actually get resolved. The fate of two of the characters (which works out OK in the end) is a bit creepy for young children.

Kita akan membuatkan pesta kejutan untuk ulang tahun Tuan Horace yang kelima ratus dan dia akan merasa baikan
Kali ini Araminta mengajak kita berpetualang di gua dekat pantai. Dia dan Wanda, teman yang sekarang tinggal bersamanya di rumah tua, berencana memberi hadiah kejutan untuk Tuan Horace yang akan berulang tahun ke-500. Ulang tahun akbar harus mendapatkan hadiah akbar juga, donk. Maka ketika suatu hari tanpa sengaja dia dan Wanda melihat sebuah pedang tersembunyi di dalam gua, Araminta bertekad akan memberikan pedang itu untuk Tuan Horace sebagai hadiah ulang tahun.
Nah, dimulailah petualangan mereka yang mendebarkan itu. Menelusuri relung gua yang gelap, lembab dan hanya berdua membuat keduanya sedikit ketakutan. Terlebih karena ada jebakan di dalam gua tersebut. Jebakan yang ternyata berhubungan dengan masa lalu Tuan Horace sendiri. Bagaimana kisahnya? Nah, baca aja sendiri yaa..
Seperti buku pertama, buku ini juga habis saya baca dalam sekali duduk. Ceritanya ringan dan karena ada bumbu petualangan, membuat pembacanya seakan tak sabar menanti akhir cerita yang telah disiapkan penulis. Ilustrasi dan penyampaiannya juga memberikan nilai lebih yang membuat pembacanya menjadi lebih mudah membayangkan ceritanya. Huruf hurufnya yang besar dan spasi yang lebar, tak akan membuat mata pembacanya capek. Sebenernya berasa kurang tebel sih, tapi toh karena bidikannya anak anak,menurut saya pas pas aja biar anak anak juga ga cepet bosen saat membaca maupun mengoleksi serinya ^^

Lanjut ke buku kedua dari seri Araminta Spook. Kali ini menurut saya petualangan Araminta jauh lebih menegangkan. Padahal misinya sederhana, mencari hadiah yang tepat untuk ulang tahun Tuan Horace yang ke-500. Ngomong-ngomong, Tuan Horace ini adalah salah hantu penghuni rumah hantu Araminta.
Nah, bersama dengan Wanda yang sekarang juga tinggal di rumah hantu, Araminta bertekad memberikan pedang kuno yang tidak sengaja mereka temukan di sebuah gua. Sayangnya, mengambil pedang itu tidak semudah yang mereka kira.
Araminta dan Wanda sama sekali tidak tahu kalau ternyata gua yang mereka tuju, mempunyai hubungan yang erat dengan Tuan Horace dan juga Edmund. Mereka juga tidak tahu, kalau gua tersebut ternyata sangat berbahaya. Nah, berhasilkah Araminta dan Wanda mendapatkan pedang tersebut?
Ngomong-ngomong, di cerita kali ini, seharusnya saya kasihan sih dengan peristiwa yang menimpa Paman Drac, tapi Paman Drac lucu sekali. Kira-kira sudah berapa kali ya Paman Drac mengalami peristiwa itu? Dan bisa-bisanya beliau betah sekali tidur di kantong tidur gantung di tempat yang tinggi bersama para kelelawar dan juga ... eh ... kotorannya.
At last, di buku ini, menurut saya, petualangan Araminta lebih seru. Kehadiran Wanda juga jadi tambahan yang menyegarkan. Di buku pertama, Araminta senang sekali dengan Wanda. Tapi di buku ini, akhirnya ketahuan sifat mereka masing-masing, yang membuat mereka sama-sama sebal, tapi toh yang namanya anak-anak, bertengkarnya cuma sebentar, dan mereka tetap berteman. {My thoughts} – Sir Horace is one of the ghosts that Araminta has found living among them in her house. The other is Edmund. Both have become friends with Araminta and Wanda one of the new residents of her home.
These books are mostly mystery and adventure and they take Araminta and Wanda on some adventures with a bit of mystery tied into them.
In this book Sir Horace is about to celebrate his 500th birthday and Araminta wants to get him the best present she can find. While Araminta and Wanda are out running and errand with Wanda’s dad for Araminta’s Uncle Drac they come across what Araminta believes to be the best present ever for Sir Horace.
They mutually decide to go through the same secret passage that Araminta had used in the first book as a means of getting to the grotto in which the present has been left. Edmund tries to stop them from going any further but fails in his duty. The girls trek on and apparently they get themselves trapped.
Are they able to get free or do they stay trapped? What happens if they can’t get out? How will anyone find them?
Many questions and they all get answered within the pages of the book. We even get to learn much more about Edmund and Sir Horace. Things that we didn’t already know, things that help the storyline along!
I can’t wait to start the next book and see what adventure Araminta and Wanda will be going on!

While Araminta and Wanda are out running and errand with Wanda’s dad for Araminta’s Uncle Drac they come across what Araminta believes to be the best present ever for Sir Horace.
They mutually decide to go through the same secret passage that Araminta had used in the first book as a means of getting to the grotto in which the present has been left. Edmund tries to stop them from going any further but fails in his duty. The girls trek on and apparently they get themselves trapped.
Are they able to get free or do they stay trapped? What happens if they can’t get out? How will anyone find them?
Many questions and they all get answered within the pages of the book. We even get to learn much more about Edmund and Sir Horace. Things that we didn’t already know, things that help the storyline along!
I can’t wait to start the next book and see what adventure Araminta and Wanda will be going on!

I gotta say, as a grown man I am sort of grooving on Araminta Spookie. Book two in the successful kids' series by Angie Sage makes me wish Araminta had been around when I was a kid; her adventurous, bossy personality, mixed with that of her mousy but spunky-when-she-needs-to-be best friend Wanda meshes perfectly, and here gets both girls into trouble when Araminta is determined to get Sir Horace - one of two ghosts in the house, the one who inhabits an old suit of armor - a gift for his upcoming 500th birthday. A chance outing to a mushroom farm, where Araminta and Wanda spot a rusty old sword in a cave that starts Araminta plotting to come back and retrieve it for Sir Horace, gets the girls into all sorts of problems when they find themselves trapped in a dark, dank cave ... slowly filling with water as high tide comes in. Without putting my finger on it, there is just something charming about the girls, Aunt Tabby, Uncle Drac, and the wacky mansion they all live in, combined with Araminta's thirst for adventure, that make these "kids" books as much fun for adults to read, as well. Recommended, for either your young ones or the young one in you. ****

Well, another fun and fantastic story about our girl, Araminta. Once again, I loved the tone of the story. I really enjoy Araminta as the storyteller and love her tone of voice she tells the story in. Besides that, my kids at school really liked the book and had some wonderful discussions about the story and had some great questions about characters and events presented in the story. So, three cheers for Angie Sage for writing a story that has a fun voice to it (and isn't written in a blah blah blah fashion - i.e. "Araminta walked down the hall. Araminta turned to the door. She turned the doorknob. A gust of air flew past Araminta's face as she opened the door." etc. Ugh! Writing like that makes me die, so thank you Angie Sage for not writing garbage like that) and for creating a story (and a series) that gets kids thinking and engages them in the story itself. Well done!

Englanninkielinen lastenkirjallisuus on harmittavassa paitsiossa lukulistoillani, koska sitä ei voi vinkata sinällään. Kerettiläinen kommenttini jatkuu, että kustantajatkaan eivät ole siinä kovin asiantuntevia. Kummallista tauhkaa ja tusinatavaraa tuntuu pukkaavan puolivuosittain, mutta miksi jo hyvällä Septimus Heap-fantasiasarjalla Suomessa meritoitunut Sage ei ole päässyt käännöslistalle tällä hyvällä lastensarjalla?
Araminta Spookien elämän henkilöihin ei ole helppo päästä kiinni keskeltä sarjaa, mutta tarina aukeaa helposti. Mikä parempi, se on jännittävä ja hauska, siinä on lepakko ja kummitus ja kuolemanvaara ja vitsailua.
Ei sitä kakkos-kolmosluokkalainen paljon muuta tarvitse. Vinkkaisin.

The Sword in the Grotto This was book two in the Araminta Spookie series and continued the story of Araminta and her new housemate, Wanda Wizzard. Wanda and Araminta are exploring the hidden tunnels in Spookie House when they stumble upon a small grotto containing a super old sword. Since Sir Horace is about to turn 500, Araminta and Wanda decide that the sword would be the perfect gift for him! The only problem is that Araminta and Wanda somehow are locked inside the grotto and the tide is rising. Edmund, Sir Horace's faithful page comes to their rescue and escorts them out of the grotto while also telling the story of how he and Sir Horace were killed.

Araminta Spookie is a very thoughtful person. She and Wanda want to cheer up their friend Sir Horace with a surprise 500 years birthday party. They are looking for a present and stumble upon a sword that they think will make a great birthday present. The problem is that they can't seem to get to it because it is on the other side of the wall of rocks. They have to look for the secret passage in order to retrieve it.

I am a big fan of Angie Sage, and have loved her other works. This book seemed very cutesy- it had some nice plays on classic horror themes (their uncle being named Drac, hiding in a closet, and keeping bats for pets), but the storyline was resolved too quickly and easily. And some details seemed confusing, I couldn't tell if this was part of a chronological series or not. So when I had questions, I couldn't discern if their answers were revealed in other related books or if I just had to try harder to read between the lines.

Meet Arminta Spook who lives with her Uncle Drac, Aunt tabby and Wanda and her family in a haunted house. It is Sir Horace's 500th birthday coming up and they want to do something special. Which turns into a dangerous and a little annoying trip into the secret tunnels under the house. As long as you don't mind a lot of Wanda whining and Arminta telling her to be quiet it is otherwise a good story. It develops the characters more from the first book and is short and fast-paced. Full of chaos throughout.

For me, this book is the best book out of the series. And I know I havent read book 3. But this book was very touching. The chapter that was dedicated to Edmund, that was the best. It decribed how him and Sr. Horace became a ghost. I would love to known more about there lives before he became ghost. This story was adventerous and spellbounding. Mrs. Sage writing is awesome. She makes you feel like your right there, as its taking place.

Well, it's getting weird... obviously... of course...
Rasanya kaya nonton The Adam's Family. Sekumpulan orang (klo bisa dibilang gitu) yg hidup seatap. Tapi setidaknya di seri ini semua makin jelas. Terutama kisah hidup para hantu, Mr. Horace dan Edmund. Satu hal yg aq ngga abis pikir...kenapa orang2 mati ini ngga "terus"? Karena pasti ngga semua orang mati jadi hantu khan? klo ngga, ya bisa penuh dunia ini. Apa bener karena mereka punya unfinished business? It makes me wonder.

Araminta Spookie is back in her 2nd book. Araminta and her supposed best friend Wanda want to throw a b-day party for their 500 year old ghost. To get him the best present, ever they end up in a little bit of trouble.
I didn't think this follow up was as good as the first and I really disliked Wanda--I thought she was terriby whiney and mean.
