He’s the man. He should be saving her. But instead, she’s the one saving him.
After surviving a few combat fights in the military, Bart Miller is suffering from a severe case of PTSD. No matter how hard he tries, life on the ranch just isn’t the same anymore. His family thinks he’s improving, but they don’t know about the night terrors that plague him almost every night.
Ever since Missy got laid off her beloved job as a veterinary technician, she’s struggling to make ends meet. No one wants to hire her in their small town since they associate her with her Dad, who was the town drunk. Then Mrs. Miller offers her a job at the wealthy Miller Ranch—making fifteen dollars an hour!
Strangers in the night both trying to find their way, Bart and Missy end up meeting in the most unlikely of circumstances. Missy may just be the only person who can help Bart begin his journey to healing. But will Mrs. Miller see it that way? Especially since Missy is somewhat off limits as an employee at the Miller Ranch…
Author’s Note: Saving Her Cowboy is a sweet contemporary western romance novel that is sure to sweep you off your feet!
Brothers of Miller Ranch is a series of standalone books that are about each of the wealthy but humble brothers of Miller Ranch finding true love.
Brothers of Miller Ranch is based off a historical western romance series I wrote called Brides of Miller Ranch. And you’ll find stories from Ben and his brothers’ ancestors of the 1800s intertwined throughout this modern take off of Miller Ranch. That series can only be found in my Brides & Twins Mail Order Bride Compilation.
Four brothers each with a Christian name beginning with B. Sigh. Not good. Far too easy to get the characters mixed up - The author probably 'sees' each character as she writes them but the reader doesnt know them well enough to separate Bart/Bradley/Ben/Benji yet.
And the ranch owners keep all their animals in a barn. Really??
The ranch hands will be letting out the animals in shifts, with the cows staying out most of the day, the sheep staying out for three or four hours twice a day, as long as the weather is nice and the pigs out for about half the day.
WTF??
That doesn’t make any sense at all!!! I wonder if the author has ever worked on a farm? DO farmers keep cows in stalls and clean them out daily? And did anyone ever proof read this? The sheep stay out for three to four hours TWICE A DAY? So that's four hours in the morning, say from 8 -12, and then they go BACK IN for a while and then out again for another four hours? Is this a working ranch or some Petting Zoo?? Just how Do the owners make all their millions on this ranch?
But the clincher for me was the way Missy was described. We are informed over and over and over that she is 'large' until it began to get uncomfortable. It’s a little too much ‘I’m not saying she’s fat but.....’
she had some serious rub-rash going on between her thick thighs.
... While the woman wasn't as curvy as Missy, she was still somewhat thick, and no doubt had to find solutions to the dreaded swamp-thighs.
...
well, it was easy to tell why she needed the multiple bra straps that were digging into her shoulders under her tank top.
I liked how the author had them both going through insecurities and struggles but still managed to have some humor in the book, kept it from being a sad self-pity book. I'm also glad she didn't make Bart perfect even after he met Missy, a lot of other authors just completely make all the problems go away which is not real, at least not in these circumstances..... I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read Benji story
When love takes a little investing, you may find a fortune to last forever - this is a winner for ever lasting love story!
Bart a soldier returning home and trying to fit in & "be normal" a little difficult when you are battling PTSD and your family is finding it chalking how to help you. Military man always in charge and finally he has to depend on someone else. Is he strong enough to lean on someone? Missy a woman that's had to fight for everything in her life and a "town drunk" for a father. No one looked past the "label" to identify the person inside and why he escaped to the bottle. Missy as you can imagine grew to be a strong and special person. The story of hurdles and friendship, respect and romance moving. Violence 1, sex o no steamy sex scenes but the kids & romance. No cliffhangers. A tough & touchy subject but handled well. This is a great book for engaged or dating, to invest in one another is the best foundation.

I am enjoying this series by Natalie Dean, Brothers of Miller Ranch. This second story is about Bart Miller, a soldier returning home and severely battling PTSD. He is trying hard to fit back in to the family and life on the ranch. Being a military man always in charge and now finding himself in constant need of help is very hard for Bart to except. Missy is a Veterinarian technician who loves her job, but finds herself looking for a new position when her boss sells the Veterinarian business. She is no longer needed since the new owner is bringing his family along to run the office. She has a large problem, no pun intended. She was blessed and cursed with a plus size voluptuous figure since she was 15 or 16. If that wasn't enough her dad was the town drunk and no one wants to hire her since they associate her with him. I loved the story-line how the two are so perfect for each other and the only one that could save each other.
Missy is a large women who because of the reputation of her father never quite fit in or was accepted by the community. She is searching for work and Mrs Miller offers her a job on the Miller Ranch. Bart is the 2nd oldest of the Miller sons and recently returned from army with PTSD. He is going to counseling but still has frequent episodes. During one of these episodes he meets Missy who talks to him helping him get through the episode. Bart feels comfortable with Missy and she has the ability to talk to him and help him cope with his bouts of PTSD. They must deal with misunderstandings, lies, gossip, apologies, and forgiveness, Bart and Missy help each other to deal with their Problems and find love and companionship. This is a very well written book with well developed characters. I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.
He may be a cowboy now, but he was a soldier. Bart Miller, one of the Golden Boy Millrer Brothers, has come back from war, damaged and suffering from severe PTSD. Melissa Dominic grew up in the small town that the Miller Ranch sits near. She's been ostracized most of her life, judged by residents due to her looks and her late father's legacy as the town drunk. But when these two broken people meet the pieces start to come together. Her understanding of his condition is remarkable. His acceptance of her ability to calm him, be his light, show him a way to be better is fascinating. This is love at it's best, building trust, showing loyalty, proving dedication to yourself, family and each other. Terrific story telling, Bart and Missy are the best couple I've read in a long time.
I read this one with some reservations. Writing a character with PTSD has got to be challenging. I actually liked most of the things about the hero and felt like he and the heroine were people I could root for. I almost cried for them at a couple places in the story. I even liked how the heroine's caring heart, determination, and gentleness made her a good fit for this hero. The main reason this book didn't get five stars was because of a few misspellings that should've been caught and there was just something about the way this couple's romance came about. It's sweet, but not so believable. I also thought there'd be a bit more of the faith element showing up. If you're looking for a clean, somewhat spicy read, with a sweet storyline, this book might be a good choice.
This second book in the Miller cowboys will break you heart and repair it as their journey take life. Missy has been struggling all her life since childhood will be hired at the ranch and love to walk at night until she sees Bart, the military suffering from PTSD fighting a crise. She take care of him even though he doesn’t feel worthy of it. Follow them on their journey to see their love story filled with ups and downs can she help him heal for them to be happy together forever. The most heartbreaking story of this series but a beautiful and powerful romance will make your cry and believe in love.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I LOVED it! I can be pretty picky, especially with indie books, but I loved the characters and that Missy wasn’t the typical size six heroine, and that their issues were deep and realistic without being a downer. I loved the interaction between them, the descriptions of his “episodes” and how the family worked together. The writing was smooth and evocative. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
The second book in this series, once again I was blown away with how difficult it was to put this book down! I love Ms Dean's voice. Her writing style is delightfully clear, real and emotive.
I love a broken character, so Missy and Bart's story clawed at my heart. The PTSD component was realistic in its heartbreaking effects on the sufferer and the people around them. Missy's body image 'dilemmas' were real-to-life as well. I have a friend with a similar story.
Natalie Dean takes the reader on a compassionate journey of what life with PTSD is really like, interwoven with a sweet romance.
I love the way the author uses Missy's nurturing heart and penchant for helping strays to reach out to the hurting Bart.
Readers suffering from war zone PTSD may be triggered by this book. For those who aren't it is an insightful and respectful look at this medical condition.
The romance unfolds sweetly and brings out a need for both characters to work on their weaknesses.
Fans of sweet, clean western romance will enjoy this book.
This is the best book that I have read in a long time! Natalie is a wonderful author. I couldn't put this book down. She obviously did extensive research on PTSD, as it just broke my heart what Bart had to deal with. I also loved how she delved into the issues and misconceptions about Missy. People can be so cruel and judgmental based on how you look. I highly recommend this book, and all books by this author.
This is a well written story about real people experiencing the aftermath of war and dealing with it in realistic way. I especially liked the way all the characters gifted each as in a loving , caring way as they healed as individuals and as a family. The way the family delt with their brother with severe PTSD was full of the angst and unconditional love that many families of veterans have felt. I loved this book!🐰
4 stars I purchased a copy of Saving Her Cowboy:Brothers of Miller Ranch Book Two by Natalie Dean and this review was given freely. A complicated rocky romance with a loving family and a happy ending. After losing her job, Missy struggles against town prejudice until a chance meeting with Mrs. Miller provides Missy not only with a job on Miller's Ranch but also puts her in constant contact with the reclusive Bart and his frequent physical manifestations resulting from PTSD.
Missy is a young woman who never had it easy. Her body blossomed quickly, she lost her parents and lived with people judging her for things she never did. Bart comes from the wealthy family, but is troubled with PTSD. He has a hard time deciding where the real world stops and the dream world begins. The two find each other and manage to find their own way.
Sweet small town romance, with lots of heart, not a lot of sizzle. Bart Miller is a man trying to work through his PTSD. Missy is trying to live down a lifetime of hate because of her father. She loves animals, and rescues as many as she can, but the vet’s office, where she worked as a vet tech, no longer needs her. A chance meeting with the town’s matriarch sets her up with a hard job, but good pay, and the start of a life she never imagined possible.
Missy inquiring about a job and still address by her father’s name, the town drunk. The cashier refused to hire her. An older woman seen the incident asking Missy if she would mind muckraker for the stalls, hard work, but thought Missy could do it. Bart was trying to do painting on the stalls, having episode he keep dropping the can of paint, and it tried him so. Bart had been a soldier, and trying to keep memories quiet, the healing comes with getting to know Missy. Good story
Once I started reading Saving Her Cowboy, I could not put it down. This is a story of two hurt/misfit people who help each other. Bart suffers from PTSD. Missy seems to be able to reach him when he is in a fugue state. Missy has never fit into her town. There is a lot of chemistry here. Ms. Dean handles the PTSD with great sensitivity. There are many plot twists. This is a sweet, clean romance. I highly recommend this book.
if you like cowboys and animals plus a returning service man/cowboy with ptsd and a woman that has lost her job but loves animals and is not to well thought of by the town because her father was a drunk. Mrs Miller hires her to work on the ranch, this is a well written story i was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review
Missy has to live down the family name. She is trying to find a job and people look at her and give her a hard time. Mrs. Miller gives her a chance. Bart is suffering from PTSD and will find himself wandering. The first week Missy couldn't sleep and she drove out to the ranch to sit the bill and look at the stars and found him during an episode. She seems to help.
A well presented story of two very hurt people who work their way through difficulties to find their HEA. Loved how sensitively the whole PTSD was handled. So many people have no idea how hard it is to get free of it. Missy is outstanding in her calm and caring approach despite her hurts too. A lovely story. Well done.
This book gets to you from the very beginning. The people step right out of the book and into your heart, and if you’re like me,they stay right there. It’s the simple complexity that gets to you,the mind doing its best to confuse. All in all, just a really good book.
It was almost impossible to put this book down once I started it. I appreciated Ms. Dean for giving a glimpse of PTSD so we have a better understanding of what our returning veterans are experiencing upon their exit from the war zone. If only we could concentrate on peace and find solutions to world problems!
fantastic story of two hurting people who accept each other and it leads to healing. Cowboy is veteran with PTSD and she is the daughter of the town drunk. While she has a clean record, no one wants to accept her as anything but the drunk's daughter. He is having episodes of PTSD and feeling very sick, damaged.
So far, this is my favorite story! As big as the Miller family is, it took a complete stranger who recognizes PTSD, and studied it, even a little, to help Bart after returning home from war. These characters have depth, faults and even Ma Miller is human! ~
Well written book! No sex! No swearing!! This beings home what some of our warriors go through protecting us! The way the author wrote this story gave respect to the many men and women who serve. Me Dean also showed how people through their gossip can hurt others! Looking forward to reading the next book! Thank you
Missy is broken from the way she has been treated by others purely because her father was an alcoholic. Bart, one of the Miller men, is handsome as sin, but he's mentally broken fighting the demons of PTSD. Together they can overcome their difficulties. This is a poignant story of building trust.
He was the second oldest Miller son. Bart left for the Army and came back a changed man, unfortunately not for the better. Missy was known as the town drunk's daughter with the pin up body. Nobody would look past these to the see the real person she is, except Bart. When he spiraled down she was there to bring him up.
Another great story about the Miller brothers. Bart needs a second chance and so does Missy. Can they both overcome their past to get that chance? I received this book for free but truly enjoyed the story and voluntarily leave my review.
Great story. Reminds us that we are all less than perfect, but that we can be changed through the grace of God. And in that change we can become more than we ever thought we could be.
