It's kind of hard to get excited about watching people play rock-paper-scissors, but the creative team does their best by throwing in some cheating and a life-or-death gambit. It's a pretty standard volume of Kakegurui in other words.
I was hoping the election would be over soon, but it looks like it's still going on through the next two volumes I have from the library. Let's read them and find out . . .
Mary San is gradually moving up my favourite list. She is authentic and a star. Her character growth is important to watch for, in my opinion. She's just as smart as any other player and, unlike Yumeko, she comes across as so believable. And I adore Mary's interactions with Ririka. likely my favourite ship.💜
I had a lot of problems with this, so all the people with the highest votes are collected to compete against each other, to thin the herd out. But the student council president isn't taking part and neither is the girl in the wheelchair, both of which are in the lead votes wise. Being that this was a compulsory event, I'm not too sure how the two of them got out of it.
It doesn't make sense for the other characters to take part in it either, especially Mary who would know better. She remains to be the most interesting character, whilst Yumeko just does her usual. I didn't like the fact that people who had already beaten, made a come back to take part in the gamble, Like the girl who wanted to chop fingers off.
You even had that stupid poison girl take part, even when the rules where set that she wasn't allowed to use poison or she'll be disqualified. She of course uses it on herself and somehow is not disqualified, it makes no sense what so ever.
There is so much just crammed in here, that doesn't make sense. It just infuriates me as this arc established a set of rules and is just casually throwing them out the window.
Wybory do samorządu szkolnego przechodzą w swoją decydującą fazę.
This was Kawamoto's busiest volume yet. I liked the re-examination of the Momobami family members post the start of the arc to where they are now, but the pace of the gamble itself fluctuated rapidly. It was difficult to retain focus on all of the franchise's characters, while at the same time being engrossed by the more "important" matches. The stakes themselves were also flimsy. I'm still annoyed by Miyo despite understanding why she made the moves she did. She's not easy to root for.
What's going to happen next volume has been teased for a while, so I'm curious to see how Kawamoto and Naomura are going to spin it.
Not enough people talk about how good the art is in this series.
I love Mary, and I definitely think she has the "typical" sort of character arc. I've really enjoyed watching her grow as a character and a gambler. However, we've been promised--basically since the beginning-- that Yumeko will eventually gamble the president so honestly, I don't know how the next volume will play out. Kawamoto has done an excellent job creating two people I want to root for, even if they have to go through each other first.
The life and death aspects of the gambling taking place, along with the complete lack of control as a mitten/fido, is still a very interesting concept. I will read the next volume to see what happens during the gambling of Mary vs Yuemko, but I’m not sure if I’ll be continuing this series after that point.
I REALLY ENJOY THIS ONE EVEN MORE THEN THE LAST MANGA. It had me wanting to read more and I couldn’t put it down. Personally I loved it out of all of them so far.
Incredible, amazing, show-stopping, a true homage to the first ever gamble in the show plus to the original game (which, as far as I know, is from Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor? I hope that's the name).
student council secretary sayaka calls a "Grand Meeting" for the top vote earners in the presidential election to battle it out for all the votes in an elimination tournament of rock, paper, scissors poker; only two gamblers remain: mary saotome and jabami yumeko
