Bryan is a demon wrangler who owns WCPC, a Ghost Busters type agency. He is the best in his business, always getting his ghost. Bryan is cocky, distant, and self-assured. However, during his last assignment he made a huge mistake. He left his partner and lover alone. During that time Chad was possessed by a demon. The demon is exorcised, but Chad will never be the same, nor will their relationship. Bryan is consumed by guilt and feels obligated to be there for Chad whenever he needs him.

Kayden, Bryan’s coworker and friend, has a complicated, off and on relationship that causes him more grief than comfort. In the past, he was also involved with Bryan. Bryan wants to be with Kayden, but he can’t seem to get through to him. Kayden rejects all of his advances, saying he wants to be friends only. Kayden doesn’t have Bryan’s abilities to sniff out and communicate with spirits, but he is a tactile psychic, someone who can touch an object and see whom it belonged to and the circumstances around them.

When a new shipment of articles comes into the WCPC, as usual, Kayden starts to work on them. During his analysis, he comes across artifacts that begin to tell him a fascinating story about a slave girl and her master that is frightening and intriguing at the same time. The last object Kayden picks up gives him visions of something that appears to be the use of black magic by the slave girl he has seen in his observations. The WCPC is hired to examine the house where the articles Kayden has been working with come from. Bryan takes Kayden along on the trip with him, thinking that it’s just a routine haunting, but Kayden suspects it will turn out to be more complicated than that.

This is a good start to a new series. I liked the idea of the agency and its mission but got a bit tangled up in the presentation of the characters. It was hard for me to get attached to anyone but Chad, for whom I felt profound sadness. He seemed so lost and in pain, but who wouldn’t after being possessed? I’m looking forward to getting to know Kayden and Bryan better and seeing what happens during the next mission. Thanks, Lynn, for an intriguing beginning.

PAUSE/DNF 20% it’s not making sense, the magic, the world, the people - the people, if they don’t make sense and at this point in this short a story it should at least be starting to and it isn’t and I’m frustrated and getting more so, but more, things are moving in a way that makes me wonder why this point hadn’t happened before the book started and how fast the rest of the book is going to go in order to get what the synopsis says we’re getting and it’s frustrating. So I’m going to put it aside and try again when book 2 comes out because I’m still intrigued

After having read the 2025 edition version of the book
I’m just gonna say this is too weird and complicated. There is no back story or prelude to the set up of all the characters where they fit in. This has cheating and drug usage included.

dnf. couldn't sort out the characters, didn't take to any of them. looks like this is an introduction, but it didn't give much info, just assumptions the reader knew them all. spin-off of a previous series?

I'll be honest, this short novella seemed to get off to a bit of a slow start, ALTHOUGH the book I read before this was a completely different genre and I wasn't 100% in the mood for a paranormal so I'm sure that factored into how my mindset grasped what I was reading. After I hit around the 15% mark I was getting into the swing of things and after that the story started to speak to me. Sometimes Demons Whisper is a really great introduction to this new WCPC Paranormal Consultants series by Lynn Michaels, I don't know just how many entries the author plans on but the possibilities are vast and you get a great sense and feel for whats to come.

Bryan and Kayden have this amazing chemistry that has so much promise but that's all I will really say to the plot as Sometimes Demons Whisper is a paranormal and personally I think most paranormals need to be experienced "cold turkey" without much given away. I will say be in the mood for a paranormal/fantasy genre when you pick this one up or you might be like me and take a bit to connect but once you do it is definitely worth the read. As I stated above, because it took me a bit to really get my teeth sunk in I am pretty sure I'll be re-reading Sometimes Demons Whisper again when I go to read the next entry and I am already looking forward to doing so and seeing what kind of demons and mysticals the WCPC Paranormal Consultants will be facing.

Ok so i'm going to give this 5* because for a genre that I don't usually read much I loved this...Ok it's quite short but you still get a sense of the characters in this and what's going on.....I was asked to read this for an honest review and that's all I do...I always review honestly....Bryan, Chad and Kayden where characters well thought out...I felt for Chad all the way through....For a sensitive he's having it rough....Bryan and Kayden were just great, not a couple but god they would be good together.....A different world to what i'm used to reading about, it's not confusing and flows really well...I'm looking forward to reading the second part...Although this is part one the cliffhanger isn't huge and i'm told the next part isn't too far away x

Lynn Michaels has hit this one out of the park! This book has it all - conflicts inside the main characters (Kayden and Bryan), a strong attraction with lots of sensuality, a mystery, a possible haunting, and demonic possession.

I am frothing at the mouth, waiting for Book 2 in the series! Sometimes Demons Whisper ends on a cliffhanger, but knowing Ms. Michaels, the wait will be worth it.

Highly recommended to anyone who loves paranormal MM romance. Seven stars!

VERY DIFFERENT

This is the beginning of a whole new world for me. This is also completely different than anything I've read from LYNN MICHAELS. The relationship between Bryan and Kayden is a Friendship that began in College. Chad is the ex boyfriend of Bryan who is suffering from an unhinged metal state. This is the book laying the ground work for what's to come next. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

Sometimes

This is a good book. The story is about Brian, Chad and Kay. All three men are paranormals who police the things that go bump in the night. Chad is recovering from a demon possession and Kay is recovering from a break up with his girlfriend. Bryan is the common denominator between the two. Brian and Kay are goi g ing on a mission and Chad has to deal with some issues at home. The next book I hope will continue with story.

I have to admit, paranormal stories aren't normally my thing but I was in the mood for something a little different from my usual story and this book certainly delivered. The world building was interesting and it had several of my favorite tropes, work/boss romance and friends to lovers. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Good start to a new series. It's quite a short story and hints at events which took place before the story begins and what's to come. I must admit that I found It a little confusing at times, and I had to go back and read certain parts to before I could carry on. However, I like the premise of the story, and also the MCs. I'll definitely read the next book though, and hope more is revealed and the story becomes clearer. 3 and a half stars.
