I have heard a lot about Rich By Retirement. It's really popular among new investors in Singapore and now having read the book myself, I can understand why.

The concepts of investing are presented in a clear and straightforward manner. Most of these concepts are not new and are well-discussed in the many investments guides available. The recommended fund allocation to ES3/MBH/VRWA is in fact, a modification of the Boglehead Three Fund Portfolio, tailored for Singaporean investors. The book is short and easily digestable with none of the chim finance terms that often scare new investors away.

Definitely a great place to start for newbie investors.

A very good book that is indeed catered to Singaporeans. I liked how Giersch made investing so easily digestible, even for the layman.

However, not necessary every advice given holds true for everyone. For example, the idea of investing a huge portion of your wealth into stocks compared to bonds is good, but not for those who are very conservative. Such choices still depends on the individual's risk appetite.

Treating CPF as a good source of investment (under the "bond" category) is also questionable, as the money cannot be taken out until we are at old age. Should we decide to aim for earlier retirement, say at age 45 or 50, then all these money pooled in would just be locked up. Again, it is up to the individual's perception and plans.

Nevertheless, I find this book well-written, with plenty of sound advice given, and many solid examples to convince the average retail investors on why Giersch's logic made sense and should be heeded. Overall, this is a good and short book that can get anyone interested in investment started.
