Enchanted Destiny #2

Enchanted Desire

Rate this book
Desire has never looked so dangerous.
Gina hails from one of the most powerful witch families to ever exist, so when her magic fails to manifest, she becomes a lab rat for gypsies, wizards, and anyone else who promises to help her powers emerge. She has given up hope of ever following in family tradition when she starts having erratic visions centered around the one man she’d rather never see again.
Eric has done everything he can to catch Gina’s eye, but she’s always considered him an annoyance than the charming man he’s trying to convince her he can be. When she seems to finally take notice, he’s more than ready to convince her to give him a chance.
However, her confession to being a witch is more than he bargained for and makes him question if his obsession with her has ever been real, or manipulated by forces he doesn’t understand.
Gina has two options – reach deep inside herself to master her newfound magic and prove herself to Eric or lose him forever.

Welcome to my world of romance, laughter, magic, and some mayhem. I choose to write romance because I believe. If I’ve failed to see the little fairies dancing under the toadstools, it’s because I wasn’t looking hard enough.

Romance – we encounter it everyday. It’s there, in the sweet curve of a lover’s cheek, in the awkward hug of an undemonstrative husband, in the clasped hands of the elderly couple crossing the street. And if I can infuse a little bit of it into your life – so much the better.

Who inspired me to write? Why, the indomitable Georgette Heyer of course. My first encounter with romance began with Ms. Heyer. I don’t even remember which book I began that journey with, now that I’ve read them all many, many times. If you haven’t read her Regencies, you have such a treat in store for you that I envy you.

I continue to write for the sheer joy of creating and sometimes, in the process, discovering new worlds and friends. Be it in the country seat of the saturnine Duke, or in the slightly off center world of the reluctant contemporary witch, the humdrum existence of the forty-something single mom, the fantasy realm of seers and mages, or the deadly double-life of the secret agent, you’ll find something here to tickle your fancy, to fuel your daydreams or inspire your own fantasy.

Welcome to the world that I slip into everyday despite the unrelenting tugs of life, my other career, and endless obligations. May you find respite or excitement, fantasy or laughter….whatever your heart desires.

I really loved this book! It's the second book in a series but can be read as a stand-alone. Anytime I'm able to connect with the main character makes for great reading. Plus, I loved the connection between Gina (the main character) and Eric. It was very believable. I'm not big on stories where the couple falls instantly in love but like I said I really loved their connection so it was still an easy read.

I'd like to caution readers that this book does end abruptly but it's going to follow up in another book, which is great. I'm not huge on abrupt endings like this though but it's still a great story and I can't wait to read the follow-up book. If you love sweet, steamy, instant love stories than this book is definitely for you!

3.5 stars. I liked this quick read. The characters could have been fleshed out a little more and the plot needed a little more connection. I liked how we saw some signs of her having paranormal abilities, but she's so long been programed to believe that she has no magic that she bottles up emotions and doesn't recognize when she is getting premonitions. The ending also felt a bit abrupt, all the whole book is this angst about her "lack" of magic, and we only get a partial resolve. Overall, a decent installment to the series that was a nice quick romance. * I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.

This book is nothing great but not horrible, average at best. There isn't much build up and character depth but the author does have the ability to capture your attention. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Gina Caito, "scion of a powerful magical family, had no magic." According to ancient wisdom, if a witches did not manifest their powers, they would endure torture until the trauma evoked a latent magic. What possible torture could there be?

Of course, she wasn't completely without magic; she did have sporadic premonitions, which could never hold a candle to the ones by her powerful mother. Needless to say: her lack of power was a disappointment to her parents. On top of her "failures," Gina couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing in her life. Then comes Eric, the sinfully sexy guy that fires up her fantasies. Although she couldn't help wanting him, she couldn't refute his endless string of short-term relationships.

Even though the attraction between Gina and Eric was palpable, the build-up was rather slow. Their status or "destiny" would depend on one date. I love a good witch story, however, this one really didn't spend as much time on the magical side as I would've wanted. The pace was dawdling, although the story was well-written for the most part. It's just your typical love story, but I have to say that the chemistry between the characters was not as "enchanted" as I thought it be.

I received this book as part of an ARC review. Gina believes that she has no magic despite being born into a powerful witch family. Her parents dragged her to different people trying to find her magic despite that the magic in the family develops in its own time. Gina for the most part has accepted that she has no magic. Since Gina and Eric saw each other, they had no interest in any other. Gina tries to resist Eric but eventually gives in to him. Once they spend time together, Gina receives the Vision. When she tells Eric, he doesn't react well. However Gina is determined that he stays safe even if she has to follow him to protect him. Eric spots her tailing him and his partner and confronts her. With the experience of seeing how Kat and Jake got together, Eric makes up with Gina and promises to be careful if she goes home. Gina's vision comes through but Eric is only grazed instead of killed. They both agree whether Gina has magic or not, as long as they are together is what is important. Although Gina has developed some telepathy.

We got a taste for Gina's turmoil over not having magical powers in the first book, but now Enchanted Desire really delves into how much the fear and disappointment associated with her perceived lack has affected Gina. While successful, she casts doubt on who she is because of what it's expected she be.

I really enjoyed this book. We still saw our previous friends Jake and Kat from the first book, but Gina and the sweet, protective Eric took the forefront of the story with plenty of self-discovery, reluctant interest and, of course, a healthy dose of sexy. While it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger for the overall plot (even continuing from the first book, really), it still came to a satisfying ending for our leads, so there isn't any disappointment.

Very much looking forward to what happens to our Enchanted friends when book three rolls out.

I received a free advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Enchanted Destiny, the first book in Rayka Mennen’s
Enchanted Series (separately reviewed) but was a bit nervous if the sequel would be as good. Silly nerves. That second book, Enchanted Desire, is superb. Magic, destined love, misunderstandings...wow this book covers al sorts of bases, but Gina and Eric’s story sure is a fun one. Read the blurb. If it at all interests you then I’m sure you’ll love this book. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

4.5 Stars!! (I round up)

I really enjoyed this book! I connected with the main character, Gina, immediately and was happy to find the connection between Gina and Eric believable. Eric really respects her and shows respect for women through the whole book, which I appreciated. This does contain insta-love, which I don’t love, but I still found their connection believable and it didn’t make it hard to read.

The ending was a bit abrupt, but I found out the story will continue in another book. This is the second book in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone novel.

I would recommend this book for anyone who likes sweet/sizzling romance with instalove and some fantasy thrown in.
