Order of the Akasha #1

Summoned By Magic

Rate this book
The search for their fifth will bring them more than they bargained for.

A part of the ancient magical Order of the Akasha, four male witches await their last remaining piece... only to be stunned when a badass descendant of a voodoo priestess shows up. All five-foot-feisty of her turns their world on edge, making them rethink everything they thought they knew about enforcing the one rule in their magical world--harm none.

Despite the supernatural forces binding them together, there's one slight problem--there's never been a female Enforcer before. Sexy or not, the guys have sworn their allegiance to a tradition that calls her very presence unnatural. Their pull, though, doesn't care about 'never-beens' or 'what-ifs'.

The deeper their connection, the more their magic morphs and changes, leaving them desperate for answers and teetering into the very world of evil they promised to protect others from. Before it's too late, they must uncover the secrets of their past before the magic that brought them together destroys them all.

Summoned By Magic

Overall a good read good storyline. However the 'voice' of the character not what I expected of a black southern woman from Nawlins'. It threw me when the character used words like 'Holy f--k'. Do southern black women use this verbiage?!! Do black woman say these things..typically...Not that I am aware. I read books from various authors and you can tell when they are not completely in tuned to their audience. I would have given this a higher rating had the homework been done to really make this voodoo priestess truly shine with her cohorts. I will say the cover artwork is fabulous. The original cover where the main character has beautiful natural hair in crimson was awesome!

I usually love EM's books but I just couldn't connect with this one.

I felt like there was nothing going on all the time and could skip a lot of pages.

Right, okay... I just finished this book and I absolutely loved it 💖I love the world E.M. Moore has created, and each of the characters (I have a feeling I'll be team Travis in time) 😂

Plot: Our leading lady Norah lives in New Orleans, and is the latest descendant of a line of voodoo witches, on her mother's side. 6 months prior to the story starting her Granny dies, and Norah starts to feel a pull which leads her straight to Salem, and the hearts of 4 (Well 3 for now) male witches:

Liam
Travis
Gabe
Randy

However, Norahs arrival isn't as easy as things may seem because apparently she belongs to the coven made up by the 4 male witches, however, as a woman it's unheard of that she can be the long awaited 5th member. Norah and the guys can't avoid the magical connection, that pulls them all together, but even so not everyone is willing to just open up. At the same time dark forces are plotting against the coven, so they need to make decisions, not only based on their personal preferential, but mainly based on what best serves their coven!

DNF @ 26% the premise of this book was cute but not well thought out. You could definitely tell the author did no kind of research into voodoo practices, and that the author is white presenting. I knew there was something off about the way the female lead described herself. Very weird. I don’t practice voodoo but I have a feeling if her grandma was this high priestess she definitely would’ve had a problem with her granddaughter basically conning people and lying about what true voodoo is.

Norah is a young witch from down South in New Orleans, but the pull of her magic leads her up North to Salem. There she meets four young men that she feels a pull towards – Travis, Liam, Randy, and Gabe. She doesn’t know it yet but they are all witches and her magic is calling her to them to complete a connection that is meant to be. What none of them expect is the evil that will begin to surface that none of them felt coming despite what they are supposed to be. The connection that Norah and her new friends feel is strong and more than their magic will be touched.
Summoned by Magic by E.M. Moore is book one in her Order of the Akasha series. In this book, we are introduced to Norah who is trying to figure out where the pull she is feeling is leading and what it has to do with these four friends she encounters. Norah is not a wilting flower character. She is adept with her magic and uses it when necessary. I like how when she begins to explore her magic with the guys that her magic asserts itself. The story is told mainly from the first person of Norah. The story does transition between each of the men as well when the author wants to give us another point of view concerning the story. I like the varieties between the various characters as they interact with each other. I feel that it adds a good balance of dynamics to the story. Each man reacts differently to Norah. The indecision between them as they debate what exactly she is, to me, is both amusing and interesting.
There honestly isn’t much of anything that I don’t like about this story. The overall pace of the story is good, though there are some bits and pieces that I feel could have been cut out as it drags down the pace of the story a bit. Otherwise, I found the story to be quite enjoyable.
As this is a reverse harem romance novel, I like that not all of the men are quick to engage themselves with Norah. While he’s a bit of a prick, I appreciate that one has his reservations concerning her and keeps the reader intrigued as to what will eventually happen between the two of them. The sex scenes are steamy and such fun to read, so prepare yourself. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. Overall, the story is well balanced, engaging and I appreciate the air of suspense, romance, and danger. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and seeing the dangers that Norah and her men will face.

Norah lives in New Orleans and she practices voodoo, well, the fake stuff for her clients, but her magic is real. However, for the past six months she had a feeling that brought her to Salem, especially to a group of 4 guys. Norah doesn't know why, but they all have a special connection that although most of them want to believe, it's a coven link. Moreover, someone now is out to get Norah, and she and the guys need to cooperate to stop the criminal activity in the town but also to save Norah's life.

I can't wait to read the other book in the series.

Rating: 3.25 Stars

Nora’s late Granny raised her to trust her instincts, so when she begins to experience a magical pull she follows it all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana to the home of four men in Salem, Massachusetts. After a few days of reconnaissance, Norah follows the quad to a bar—which is where chapter one begins—with plans to gain an invite back to their place where she’s hoping to find something to explain why she feels drawn to them.

Her plan partially works—Randy (one of the MMCs) takes her there for a hookup, where she uses a sleep spell on him before they actually have sex so that she can search the place, but before she can find anything, the other three MMCs return home. They don’t suspect anything, but before Nora manages to leave, Randy wakes up and joins them, unintentionally completing their group circle which sets off a magical reaction. The guys—not knowing that Norah is a witch—try to blame bad wiring for the phenomena, which clues Norah into the fact that the four of them are witches too, because she’s used the same excuse to explain away her magic before. She calls them out on their lie, and then demands to know why she was compelled to find them.

Cue the reveal that she’s the fifth—the last member of their coven, and necessary for said coven to be complete. They need a complete coven in order to be strong enough to carry out their role as enforcers for the Order of the Akasha—which is essentially an organization which “hunts down bad magic users and punish[es] them.” The problem is that there has never been a female enforcer before, a fact that makes not only the MMC’s doubtful of Norah being their fifth, but Norah herself.

All of that takes place in the first 15%, which seems like an adequate enough time frame for all of that to occur, right? Well it would have been, if Norah hadn’t spent a large part of said 15% reiterating how sexy and irresistible she found the men. It was frustrating that the author prioritized emphasizing just how strong Norah’s attraction to the guys was—magically and sexually—rather than on the introduction to the characters and the plot. I need to become invested in both the characters and plot asap when starting a book, which means I expect the author to pull out all the stops and wow me with their writing. That didn’t happen here—instead everything felt forced and rushed.

Luckily, the story did improve the further I got from the beginning, and I even ended up liking the book more than I thought I would. Still there were certain elements that I wasn’t a fan of.

The insta-lust between Norah and the guys—the connection between coven members is meant to be platonic, which makes the fact that Norah begins romantic relationships with three of the guys within a single day of talking to them feel superficial. The only thing that would make me feel different is if the connection is later revealed to be a soul mate bond.

Along the same lines—Norah’s jealousy. Norah became extremely jealous when it came to the guys and other women—even with Travis, despite her not liking him. This just makes me feel like her feelings for the other three are an effect of their connection. What really annoyed me was that Norah kept reiterating that she had never been a jealous person in the past, that the jealousy wasn’t natural to her, and that she felt her jealousy was ugly and unattractive. So why wasn’t she more worried about her change of behavior?!

I’m going to hold off on any further criticisms in the hopes that I see improvement in the next book.

I like the premise of the story, but didn't really feel a connection to any of the characters. Hoping future installments really use the voodoo aspect instead of just saying that's Norah's background.

Personal preference, but as far as names go, Randy just wasn't doing it for me. It didn't match the tattooed, buff, motorcycle-riding, intense guy that it belonged to. I kept thinking, "who tf is Randy?" every time I saw the name pop up. The mental gymnastics involved in me trying to conjure an image of Randy whenever he was mentioned was exhausting.

Norah finds herself in Salem, drawn there by magic, a feeling that is calling her and she has not idea why and her plan is simple, go and find out why! What she does not expect is to find a coven of witches and certainly not to discover that she is their fifth!!!

Well written with some great characters, this is an exciting read, Norah is a fiesty strong heroine and the men are all different and loveable in their own way!

It was fantastic to read about a young beautiful brown woman!

Being brown myself it is hard to find books that don't stereotype us. This may not be politically correct but I'm calling a spade a spade. The guys are sexy and unique. Nora is a little damaged and feisty. Fantastic read and can't wait for the next installment.

First time reading this author and I liked the premise. There was a bit of repetitiveness between the main character and the 4 friends. I'm undecided if I'm going to continue reading the other books in the series. After reading some reviews it sounds like it is more of the same. I'll likely stick with the first book and end on a high note ;-)

Really

All you did was put a dark face on a clear girls face. The plot was good, story line cool, but you missed the mark. Unknown if I want to venture further. If you choose to use voodoo in the story, with most people associated that of dark skin, than a more accurate wording would be wise. Sister girl would have lit up the spot. Just saying.

This was my first (and probably last reverse harem series) because the concept is just not appealing to me. This has nothing to do with E.M. Moore's writing, which was fantastic. I knew what type of book this was prior to receiving a copy, so I'm not docking the author for that!!

This story hooked me in and I did not want to put it down. The characters are intriguing and work well together. There is the right mix of nerdy, "jock", bad boy and jerk, all with a side of sweet. Add Norah's strong sass (though not overkill), and the guys didn't know what hit them. ( I appreciated that the author did not describe Norah's skin with food! I get the whole caramel and mocha thing, but it was nice just to know she had a "permanent" tan). I liked the confusion of the draw that they all felt. I also liked the "push-pull" of emotions that they all seemed at war within themselves. I enjoyed the plot and while there was closure for some things, the book left me wanting to know what happens next. I appreciate that there was no "glaring" cliffhanger, but the reader knows the series is just beginning. As mentioned before, RH or any harem for that matter, is not appealing to me BUT Moore's writing had me so locked into the text that I didn't even skim over those intensely HOT parts. I finished this story in one sitting (though in the wee hours of the morning), glad that I didn't have work in the morning! There were a few minor editing issues that spellcheck would not catch. This did not affect the flow of the book.

While this is not a book I would recommend to those under 18, adults who enjoy sexy stories where one female has multiple partners, repeatedly, may enjoy Summoned by Magic! 4.5 stars

Romance and mystery, a sassy FMC, four hot guys and a lot of chemistry ... what more can you want?

This book got me hooked right from the start. The FMC, Norah, was written so well and I really liked her. Just the right amount of sass! Then there's the guys ... omg the guys *drool*. Nerdy Liam, tattoed hunk Randy, British Gabe (I mean, enough said, right?!) and grumpy Travis are part of a coven, except there's supposed to be five members. For six months they waited for someone to replace the last member. The last thing they expected was to find Norah, a voodoo priestess, since covens have always been made up of five males. Is it possible she's the fifth member or was she drawn to the four hotties for a different reason? Either way, they can't deny the chemistry between them. While trying to figure it all out, they must unravel the mystery of who's after Norah and why.

I finished the book in less than a day, I just couldn't put it down. The story progressed nicely, some very hot high heat scenes in there and just enough mystery that the book has all the elements for a great read.

I recommend it for everyone who is a fan of RH, romance, witches, mystery, high heat, sexy hunks, magic.

Urban fantasy, with RH building. The h feels pulled towards something, she finds it is a coven of 4 male witches who have a sad history. I found the guys to have limited depth to their characters, but the h was great, likeable and real. There are magical issues to resolve, there is an Order for witches and all sorts of dire outcomes if they include a female in their coven. Yet she has increased their powers greatly, then there is the fallout - queue steamy scenes. Great fun, with a little light mystery - I liked it a lot, some errors in story line and grammar were jarring. I'm not a YA fan so the college setting wasn't great but they are all about to graduate so there is potential for a more adult view.

Great start

This is a great start to this new series. I love witches and magic. Norah practices voodoo, which is not evil like everyone else makes you believe, and lives peacefully in New Orleans running her shop. Until she gets this undeniable urge to travel. She's pulled to the front door for 4 sexy as sin guys. Now she just has to figure out why, stay alive, oh and not kill Travis. I tell you, I'm a sucker for the a-holes but Travis hasn't won me over yet. Lots of action and suspense. And EM sure turns up the sexiness in this one. No slow burn here folks. Can't wait for the next one.

I liked this book, but didn’t quite LOVE it - yet I have feeling the rest of the series will get better. This novel was bogged down simply because the world needed to be built, relationships explained and those all too important first meetings needed to happen.

Pros:
- MC, total badass Voodoo... what’s not to love?
- Travis. He’s not down with her being the Fifth, and though is reasons are softly explained, I fear they will become paramount later.
- Enforcers... not totally unique, but a good base for an UF RH.

Cons:
- some action was confusing.
- super fast burn. Reasons, yeah, but quick to flame.

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Give it a chance.

I had a hard time bonding with this story- not because it wasn't a good or worthwhile tale- but because it was a very linear story line where you got dropped in quickly and limited character development. That being said- it's honestly just a matter of preference. I liked the basic plot. It didn't end in an inconvenient spot. While things are obviously unresolved, it ended at a natural lull.
Here's what matters... This author cared. She gave this story to people so they had a way to escape quarantine. For that, I'll always be thankful and I'll continue to look for her work.

Great book!!! Strong FMC who goes after what she wants

I really enjoyed this book! I’ve never read a book by this author so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but I really like it! Norah is an awesome FMC that knows what she wants and doesn’t beat around the bush. I really like that she just goes right after it and has no shame/hang ups! She is super awesome and a strong heroine while not being too annoyingly independent! I will definitely be reading the rest of the series!

I enjoyed this a lot. I like Travis even though he’s the “jerk” of the story. I think he’ll end up being amazing with Norah.
I had a few “no way” moments, mostly with Mandy. It made almost zero sense and for her to have been locked up for 2 weeks and still have mascara streaks? To not be more traumatized in general? Didn’t want or need a hospital or police. I really had to suspend my belief there. In fact I figured her involvement was all a setup. I mean, they did bring her back their super secret lair, right?
Anyway, I still enjoyed it and look forward to #2

I received a copy of this for a fair and honest review. I have not read a lot of RH, but there seem to be a lot of them coming my way for review. So I decide to just jump in with both feet to see what all the hype is. This one is about Norah and she is the descendant of a voodoo priestess. She could not resist the pull of the rest of the coven. The four of them feel it too, but one seems to try to pull away. It cause a bit of friction among the group. You have to read and see what you think of this tale of steamy passion.

This is the first book in Order of the Akasha series. It's a fast-paced book that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. There's action, adventure, drama, danger, suspense, twist/turns, enemies, mystery/secrets, survival, betrayal, friendships, family, intrigue, lies, magic, romance, passion/lust and love.
I am interested to see how the whole scenario works out with Norah and her men.

I absolutely adore E.M Moore's writing and this book was no exception!
This is reverse harem style book about Norah, who is a badass Voodoo witch who is drawn by 'the pull' to a group of four very sexy men who happen to be witches of a coven waiting for their fifth.
Norah is strong in her magic & definitely not what these guys are expecting. Their chemistry & pull is intense & this is definitely not a slow burner. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book!

Great start

I enjoyed this book very much. I have been in a rh mood lately but it is hard to find any that are not YA. THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY NOT YA!! Lots of sexy times throughout. The character and story building keeps a reader engaged while wondering what's going to happen next. At times I thought it was going to be predictable, only to be proved wrong. I can't wait for the next book.
