Trabajo principalmente para los niños. Mis tres hijos son mis mayores críticos y mis mayores fans. También me ganan al memory, sobretodo el pequeño. Me gusta cocinar, hacer ositos de crochet y escuchar a Billie Holliday. Si fuera un animal sería un periquito. No me canso de dibujar.

KISSING!!!!!!
My name is Monica.
When I ride my bicycle, I am faster than the wind!
I like swallows, strawberry cake, and listening to stories that my mother tells me.
At home I take care of the plants on the balcony, because I love watering them and telling them nice things so they will grow quickly.
So begins our story of a little artist girl living in... Spain, I'm assuming, since that's where Rocio Bonilla lives.
But Monica loves painting most of all.
I paint a million things with my colors. I know how to paint red ladybugs, blue skies, and yellow bananas. I have even painted flamingos, penguins, and gorillas, but I have never painted a kiss.
What color is a kiss?
My only complaint about this is that she only paints things the correct colors - kids usually are a bit more liberal with their interpretations of reality through art, but okay.
On the next page we see Monica hugging a jar of tomato sauce and looking at a plate of spaghetti.
Could I paint a kiss red like my spaghetti sauce?
Then on the next page, she is very angry, and we see her in six different angry poses. This whole page is drawn in red.
I definitely don't think so. People say that red is the color of anger.
And you don't kiss at all... when you're ANGRY!
Red is also the color of passion, but I don't expect a six year old to know this, I guess.
What about green? I like the color of crocodiles.
And they are so nice, as well!
We see Monica doing a one-handed handstand on the back of a smiling crocodile. A whole bunch of green plants are growing behind them.
But I do not like vegetables, and many vegetables are green.
I don't like broccoli, nor chard, nor peas.
But I do like artichokes, just a little bit.
Can we put this 'kids hate veggies' to bed? I mean, it's tired. And untrue. Monica looks like she's going to vomit as she gazes at chard. She sticks her tongue out and pushes away a plate of peas.
Yellow? I love the color of sunflowers....
We see Monica leaping through a completely yellow field of sunflowers.
...and good ideas.
Because good ideas are yellow, aren't they?
We see a glowing light bulb over Monica's head.
Although kisses are as sweet as honey...
We see some bees perched on a honey jar, only to turn the page and find a swarm of them chasing Monica, while she screams, "I do NOT like bees!"
Should I paint a kiss brown?
We see Monica contemplating a brown maple tree in autumn, chewing thoughtfully on a chocolate bar.
Kisses are sweet like chocolate and magical like a forest in autumn.
But on the next page are five piles of dog shit, one of which Monica has stepped in. A happy daschund is looking at her and wagging his tail.
The page simply says, "But.. yuck."
Do we really have to bring dog shit into this?!!?!?!?!? WHY on earth is shit becoming more prevalent in kid books?!?!!? I'm not amused.
We turn the page and see Monica sleeping on a crescent moon.
Is a kiss white as snow?
Or bright as the moon and stars?
On the next page Monica is shivering, standing next to a snowman. A white rabbit and a white rat are at her feet.
But kisses are warm... and snow is so COLD!
Pink kisses, maybe? Kisses are delicious like my favorite cakes.
We see Monica looking at a bunch of pink cupcakes and licking her lips.
But I cannot stand fairies or princesses.
Monica turns her back on some pink fairy and princess costumes, nose in the air, saying "No way!"
The next page is drawn all in blue.
I am told blue is the color of sadness.
We see her in all different poses: crying, huddled on the floor, looking forlornly at her stuffed bunny, her goldfish bowl has a raincloud hovering over it, she's sitting in the corner with her head on her knees.
But on the opposite page she questions if blue really could be the color of sadness as we see her happily plunging down the depths of a pool or lake, goggles on.
Now comes a grayscale page in which Monica is hiding under the covers in her room. Monsters stare at her and some are hiding under the bed.
I do not like the black of darkness nor monsters.
We see her then standing in a very polluted city.
I do not like gray smoke, either!
The next page you will have to turn sideways, to the delight of the children, as we see an elephant doing a handstand one-handed with a flower in his trunk. A rhinoceros balances on top of the elephant, and a hippo on top of the rhino, Monica on top of the hippo, and a black sheep tops the whole thing off.
But I love elephants, rhinos, hippos, and (black) sheep.
They are FUN, just like some kisses!
On the next page we see Monica has drawn all these things and tacked them on her wall.
I feel completely messed up!
"Mommyyyyy! What color is a kiss? Do you know?" she yells across the room.
The last page is a two-page spread. Mom is kissing Monica on the cheek in the far right-hand corner, and the whole rest of the page is taken up with multi-colored and patterned hearts!

Oh, yeah. So... This is a rather cute book about a little girl who dresses like Pugsley Addams for some reason. She is an artist. She wants to paint a kiss but can't figure out what color a kiss is.
Well, kisses don't really have a color because they are not a physical object like elephants, bees, honey, water, or cake as she describes in this book. Kissing is an act and a verb. Giving someone a kiss is not like that misunderstanding between Peter Pan and Wendy Moira Angela Darling. A kiss is not a thimble.
I guess, if pressed, I'd have to say kisses are pink because people's mouths are pink. But that's just me.
The book has a sweet ending. We don't really resolve the issue - has Monica decided kisses are represented by multi-colored and patterned hearts? Is she aware that a kiss is not a physical object she can paint? Perhaps her mother can show her how kisses are represented in popular culture - with a lipstick mark. Her mother could help her put on some lipstick and kiss a piece of paper to represent a kiss. Or teach her how to draw a pair of lips. Or Monica could draw a picture of her mom kissing her. Or her kissing her mom.
The book doesn't really NEED a resolution - I'm nitpicking here. It's just fine on its own.
Kisses could be all different colors based on who is kissing whom and why. Of course this kid isn't aware of sexual and/or romantic kisses yet, but I still think there's a variety of kisses for children. Butterfly kisses, eskimo kisses, mom kissing your tummy to make you laugh, kissing a sick kid to comfort them or to kiss a boo-boo away, etc. etc.
This is actually a fascinating topic.
Tl;dr - A fun book that ends up being about colors and how to represent things in art. Also about love. :) Monica is an interesting kid and it is fun to learn about her likes and dislikes. Children will love to tell you if they agree or disagree with her assessments. Sweet ending. I wish there hadn't been dog shit in it. Also, the illustrations are ugly. So, a mixed bag.

With whimsical illustrations and a warm, endearing, relatable story, I could see this becoming a favorite for many families. Lots of opportunities for speculation and interaction are embedded for young children to engage in with their parents. (What else is blue? What do you like that is pink? Do you like black sheep, too?) It also provides opportunity for bonding and establishing secure attachment to caregivers. I would use this in a pre-school learning environment and in a home setting. I also appreciated the subtle non-conformity to gender roles ("I cannot stand fairies or princesses") and the sporadically hand-written words to personalize it a little bit.

An imaginative young girl named Monica, who loves painting above all other activities, wonders what a kiss's natural color is in this sweetly engaging picture-book from Spanish author/artist Rocio Bonilla. As she considers color after color, painting the various creatures and objects of that hue, she rejects each one. Eventually she appeals to parental authority, asking her mother, who proceeds to give her a kiss, sparking heart-shaped bursts of every color.
Originally published in Spain as De quin color són els besos?, this adorable picture-book explores the imaginative world of an enthusiastic, creative young girl. I was reminded, in the course of my reading, of some of Peter Reynolds' picture-books, which also feature young artists considering such things as color and perspective. The artwork here is quirky and fun, displaying (not surprisingly) a lovely use of color. Recommended to anyone looking for engaging picture-books about art, color, the imaginative process, or love.

No hay año en el que no lo cuente en el aula en la que me encuentre. Y no ha habido un año en el que no me lo hayan hecho repetir cientos de veces.
Además, tiene tantas posibilidades de aplicación posterior, que fácilmente puede convertirse en un recurso imprescindible dentro de las aulas de Educación Infantil e, incluso, en los primeros cursos de Educación Primaria.
No hay año en el que no lo cuente en el aula en la que me encuentre. Y no ha habido un año en el que no me lo hayan hecho repetir cientos de veces.

This is a sweet, beautifully, colorfully illustrated picture book about a little girl pondering the color of a kiss, as she knows what colors belong to all other things. She knows that veggies are green, she knows that water is blue, and that night time monsters are black, but she can't figure out what color best works for kisses. She decides they are all colors.
Great book to teach about colors, but kids can have fun just reading it for all the beautiful pictures.

I thought this book was really cute and a good way to learn about colors etc. I didnt like the different sizes on the text tho. My dyslexia kicked in and i found it hard to read (not a very uncommon thing in children/picture books tho)

What Color Is a Kiss? is a charming book that offers a world of colors and a little girl who takes you on an adventure where she tries to figure how it all connects.
It's such a delight and something that will appeal to the young and the young at heart.

Όταν πήρα στα χέρια μου το βιβλίο -πριν φυσικά το ανοίξω- απάντησα μόνη μου "κόκκινο" και μάλιστα χωρίς δεύτερη σκέψη. Όταν έκανα την ερώτηση στον έφηβο γιο μου με λοξοκοίταξε και μούγκρισε "μαύρο"· δύσκολη ηλικία, βλέπετε, που γίνεται δυσκολότερη και εξαιτίας της πανδημίας… Η δεκάχρονη κόρη μου, πάλι, που είναι και το καλλιτεχνικό πνεύμα της οικογένειας, έβαλε το χέρι στο πρόσωπο, όπως η ηρωίδα του βιβλίου, η Μόνικα, το επεξεργάστηκε λίγο και μου ζήτησε πως θέλει να το δοκιμάσει στο χαρτί και πως θα μου απαντήσει αργότερα.
Πάμε στη Μόνικα, λοιπόν, που όλοι τη φωνάζουν Μινιμόνι. Είναι ένα κοριτσάκι περίπου 8 ετών, με μεγάλα μάτια, γεμάτα περιέργεια, πλούσιο καρέ μαλλί κι ένα ριγέ φουστάνι και χόμπι έναν σωρό. Αλλά αυτό που λατρεύει πάνω απ' όλα είναι η ζωγραφική. Ξέρει, λέει, να ζωγραφίζει ένα εκατομμύριο πράγματα, χρησιμοποιώντας δεκάδες χρώματα. Όμως ποτέ δεν έχει ζωγραφίσει ένα φιλί. Γιατί δε γνωρίζει ακόμα τι χρώμα είναι το φιλί...
Αρχίζει, λοιπόν, να πειραματίζεται με όλες τις αποχρώσεις, τι κόκκινο δοκιμάζει, τι πράσινο, τι κίτρινο, τι καφετί, τι άσπρο, τι ροζ, τι μπλε, τι μαύρο και τι γκρίζο. Μα τίποτα δεν της ταιριάζει εντελώς. Εκεί που πάει να καταλήξει, τσουπ, προκύπτει κάτι με το χρώμα που το κάνει να μην ταιριάζει σε ένα φιλί… H Μινιμόνι μπερδεύεται και αποφασίζει να ζητήσει τη βοήθεια της μαμάς της. Και τότε, αμέσως, χάρη στην ουσιαστική αγάπη, μάλλον παίρνει την απάντηση στο ερώτημα που τη βασάνιζε! Και κλείνει την αφήγησή της, ρωτώντας πλέον εμάς, τους αναγνώστες, "Τι χρώμα είναι το φιλί;"
Η ευρηματική Ισπανίδα δημιουργός έγινε γνωστή στο ελληνικό αναγνωστικό κοινό από τα εξαιρετικά Αδερφάκια, που περιγράφουν με τον πιο απρόσμενα διασκεδαστικό τρόπο την αγάπη ανάμεσα στα αδέρφια. Και στο βιβλίο αυτό, η αγάπη είναι το κεντρικό της θέμα, η αγάπη που μπορεί να εκφραστεί με χίλιους τρόπους και χίλια χρώματα. Φαντάζομαι πως τα σαλόνια στα οποία κυριαρχεί ένα χρώμα, και στα οποία η Μόνικα χάνεται προσπαθώντας να νοηματοδοτήσει τις χρωματισμένες λέξεις, να τις σχετίσει με τα συναισθήματά της και να δει αν η απόχρωσή τους αυτή ταιριάζει στο φιλί, θα μπορούσαν να είναι τόσα, όσα και κάθε χρώμα πάνω στην παλέτα και η αναζήτηση να μη σταματάει ποτέ.
Ταυτόχρονα, η Bonilla, μέσα από την αναζήτηση του κατάλληλου χρώματος, εξερευνά τη συναισθηματική αντίληψη των χρωμάτων, την οπτική κατανόησή τους και τις αντιδράσεις των παιδιών σε αυτά. Άλλωστε, η ψυχολογία των χρωμάτων μελετάει τα χρώματα ως καθοριστικό παράγοντα της ανθρώπινης συμπεριφοράς και οι αντιδράσεις μας σε αυτά είναι ζωτικής σημασίας. Οι ζωντανές εικόνες του βιβλίου, που συνομιλούν ακατάπαυστα με το γοητευτικό κείμενο βοηθούν τη μικρή ηρωίδα της ιστορίας και τη μητέρα της (και φυσικά όλους εμάς τους αναγνώστες) να αντιληφθούν ότι η αγάπη -που στην περίπτωσή μας εκφράζεται μέσα από το φιλί- μπορεί να έχει οποιοδήποτε χρώμα, καθώς όταν υπάρχει είναι παρούσα μέσα στα πάντα γύρω μας! Τελικά, αυτή ήταν και η απάντηση της κόρης μου αφού το καλοσκέφτηκε και αφού πειραματίστηκε. "Το φιλί τελικά μπορεί να είναι πολλά χρώματα, ανάλογα με τα κέφια μου, ανάλογα με το ποιος μου το δίνει, ανάλογα με το πού το δίνω εγώ, ανάλογα με το αν είναι χειμώνας ή καλοκαίρι, ανάλογα με το αν έχουμε ή όχι σχολείο", ήταν η απάντησή της.
Ένα πολύ όμορφο παιχνίδι, που μπορείτε να παίξετε με τα ανήσυχα σαν τη Μινιμόνι παιδιά σας με αφορμή το βιβλίο, είναι να τους ζητήσετε να δώσουν χρώματα σε έννοιες άπιαστες, όπως κάνει η μικρή πρωταγωνίστρια, και να αιτιολογήσουν ελεύθερα την επιλογή τους! Π.χ. τι χρώμα είναι η αγάπη ή τι χρώμα είναι ο ύπνος ή τι χρώμα είναι η ελευθερία ή τι χρώμα είναι τα ψέματα ή τι χρώμα είναι οι διακοπές ή τι χρώμα είναι το lockdown! Έπειτα, μάλλον λίγο πιο εύκολο και τετριμμένο, αλλά πάντοτε χρήσιμο γιατί μπορεί να σας δώσει και απαντήσεις-έκληξη, είναι το παιχνίδι του χρωματισμού των συναισθημάτων και των συναισθηματικών καταστάσεων. Τι χρώμα είναι η χαρά; Τι χρώμα είναι η μοναξιά; Τι χρώμα είναι ο φόβος; Θα μπορούσατε ακόμα να αναζητήσετε γνωστά έργα τέχνης που απεικονίζουν φιλιά και να δείτε με ποια χρώματα τα απέδωσαν οι σπουδαίοι ζωγράφοι, όπως ο Κλιμτ ή ο Μαγκρίτ.
Και φυσικά, μπορείτε να ζωγραφίσετε παρέα πολλά φιλιά! Σε κάθε, μα κάθε απόχρωση.

Hace unos días hemos estado leyendo el cuento de "¿De qué color es un beso?"
Que nos presenta a una niña que quiere hacer un super dibujo lleno de cariño y besos pero no sabe nada de ellos.
No sabe su color, para el dibujo, ni su olor, ni su sabor. No sabe los tipos, no sabe la forma...sabe que le gustan pero enserio, ¿de qué color son?
Empieza con su duda de niña la búsqueda del color que tanto necesita encontrar explicando los pros y los contras de todos los tonos que conoce de su día a día.
El rojo de los macarrones con tomate que tanto le gustan, el azul como el mar o el cielo, amarillo como el sol, verde como el césped, marrón como el bosque...
Y aunque parece encontrar finalmente su respuesta, deja en el espectador la duda de como algo que aparentemente usamos a diario, y a todos parece gustarles, es a la vez tan secreto para el mundo hasta el punto de no tener ni idea de ellos.
Y es que hay besos de mariposa, que se dan con las mejillas, besos de mamá y papá que parecen arreglarlo todo, besos de murciélago, de gnomo, con la nariz.
Besos de prometer, de traicionar de creer que sí pero no, de no pero sí, de amor, de amistad, de despedida con lágrimas en los ojos algún tipo de gris.
Los hay infantiles con sabor a gominolas, a regaliz de fresa o a batido de chocolate, pasionales con sabor a manzanas de caramelo de color sin especificar, de vainilla cuando los recordamos o de canela cuando nos los cuentan.
Los hay a los abuelos con ese sabor al típico caramelo de café. Al aire, sin sabor aparente, besos de adolescentes, importantes como el primero o el último de sabores completamente opuestos, de algodón de azúcar, de regaliz negro.
O esos que caen entre chupitos de tequila cuando estás más perdido que el propio color, sabor o tipo.
Besos de Coca-Cola para verano, o de sabor Helado. O esos, que aunque no sepas a que saben, no puedes dejar de buscar.
Está dirigido a un público infantil de cuatro años en adelante, por su tipo de letra grande y fácil de comprender, el formato es horizontal, algo más grande que un A4 y está lleno de ilustraciones que para los peques que están empezando a leer lees facilita mucho el trabajo de cara a la comprensión lectora de la historia.
Es bonito, ni muy largo ni muy corto y creo que para las personas con peques en casa, podría ser una apuesta diferente y acierto seguro.

El libro “¿de qué color es un beso?” es de alta calidad porque se preocupa principalmente de funcionar como una unidad armoniosa y atractiva. Por ejemplo las ilustraciones de cada página están llenos de color, de vida, mostrándote lo bueno de un color y lo malo, como cuando analiza si el beso puede ser de color rojo como la salsa de sus espaguetis pero se retracta porque el color rojo también se utiliza para representar el enfado y ella dice que no se dan besos cuando estas enfadada. También el diseño y estilo de escritura realzan la historia de Mónica, la niña que le surge la duda: ¿de qué color es un beso?, esto es porque en todo el libro el texto es distinto, en especial la autora se preocupa en las frases de destacar de manera diferente una palabra relevante con un diseño y tamaño distinto a las otras palabras de esa frase, por lo que lo hace mucho más llamativo de leer además de sus ilustraciones atractivas por ejemplo en la frase: “¿y verde? ¡Me gusta el color de los cocodrilos!” la palabra verde está escrita distinta, de forma llamativa y grande como también la palabra cocodrilos también está escrita con una letra distinta, más redonda la letra, más grande.
Me parece que el libro despierta el entusiasmo de sus lectores, por dos motivos, el primero es por la historia que te lleva a recorrer todos los colores que a Mónica se le pueden ocurrir para encontrar con cual pintar un beso, y lo hace de una manera divertida, dinámica, entretenida y dan ganas de seguir leyendo para saber de qué color cree que es el beso, encontrándose con un final impredecible y conmovedor. Otro motivo por el que el libro despierta el entusiasmo de sus lectores son las ilustraciones llamativas, con un dibujo alocado de la realidad, utiliza muy bien los espacios del libro por ejemplo cada vez que se imagina cosas buenas que tengan el color del que está hablando se obtiene una sola imagen que utiliza toda la página, al contrario de cuando analiza las cosas malas que tienen el color que está pensando ya que en esas ocasiones utiliza varios pero pequeños dibujos para representar las cosas malas, además estas comparaciones hacen el libro gracioso al leer.
