A confused straight guy and a gay hookup artist walk into a bar ...
Firefighter Sean Connolly is straight -- until one impulsive night changes everything. He tries to dismiss it as a fluke, but when a fire rescue leads him back to the guy who blew his mind, he's thrown into a chaos of confusion and want. He gives in to curiosity, exploring a new side to himself -- not just his attraction to a man, but his desperate need to please.
Paramedic Jace Gillespie is a hookup pro, never letting anyone get too close. When he meets Sean, though, he feels a connection right away. An ill-advised threesome seems to kill a friendship in the making, but when they're thrown together by work, it doesn't take long for passion to reignite. Sean calls to something in Jace he never knew was there, and together, they explore a dynamic that fulfills them both.
But as feelings deepen, doubts surface. Sean is in the closet, and Jace struggles to trust his promise that it won't last forever. With family conflict and his career in the balance, Sean finds it difficult to picture his life without secrecy, but if he doesn't find a way, he may lose the one person he most wants to please.
Rapid Response is the longest novel of the Hearts and Health series at approximately 92,000 words! It can be read as a standalone.
DJ Jamison writes a variety of queer men finding extraordinary love through M/M Romance! She is a lifelong reader and has always loved writing and editing, with a ten-year journalism career before she began publishing romance. She has books in ebook, print, and audio, as well as German, French, and Italian translations.
DJ lives in Kansas with her husband, two sons, and a sadistic cat named Birdie.
Let me start off by saying I did not like Lena. That one scene where she practically forced Sean into an uncomfortable threesome made me entirely uncomfortable. I could have seriously done without that scene. It was utterly unnecessary and I judged Lena’s character wholly and completely because of that. Jace too. It’s like they took advantage of Sean and I’m sure that wasn’t the intended effect, but that’s what I got from that.
It was so awkward because Jace is gay, Lena is straight, and Sean is obviously (not quite to him) not straight (bi-curious).
And then Lena had the audacity to get mad at Jace because he made Sean climax before “she got into the game”? Like Jace owes you for that?
And that set the tone of the story for me. Jace himself is uncomfortable with the knowledge of being in a threesome with Lena and how are we as the readers supposed to take that? He admitted so in a discussion with friends. If you are going to participate in a threesome, how about starting off by making sure everyone is attracted to each other and that all parties involved are comfortable with the act?
It really did feel like this one throwaway character took advantage of a supposed friend, Jace, and a nice and supportive guy looking to be a good brother, Sean, and pushed them into a three-way.
Then, I tried to get into the rest of the story, but I just did not like how any of that was addressed or rather not addressed. I could not connect to Sean and Jace as a couple. I liked Sean, but still Jace made a bad impression on me. So, that prevented me from enjoying them as a couple.
This is the 1st book in this series and by this author that I didn’t enjoy. That’s just me! I’m super picky and I provide my honest reactions to the stories I read. Sometimes that’s a good thing and sometimes not.
An extended story about a straight guy Sean, who had one short sexual interaction with a other guy Jace. Totally in shock he ran away. His whole world turns upside down. Sean works as a firefighter and Jace as a medical. Through work they meet again after saving a little girl from a fire. Being her heroes it’s inevitable to go on with life without being involved with this little girl.
Their start together isn’t ideal. It’s awkward and avoiding each other seems a wish but not an option. Very tentative they start a friendship and bodily exploring brings them closer. Jace has his doubts about Sean, he could run again. Sean seems eager to explore all the possibilities, but he doesn’t want to be outed.
While Sean struggles hard with his sexuality Jace is out. In the beginning this combination is somewhat toxic. It took a while before the ice melted. The somewhat dominant side of Jace is just what Sean needs, together they have great sex. But when time past by for Jace the walls of his apartment are closing in. Sean has to take steps or else he will lose Jace. Unfortunately Sean I just the polite guy working himself in deep trouble and making wrong decisions!
The characters were flawed, in a good way, even if this made me be annoyed and irritated by Sean more than once. We get to meet a lot of secondary characters, small-minded colleagues, supportive friends and also toxic family drama. They all bring their own kind of troubles. Personally I could do with less story and drama and more focus on both men, but that’s totally me. Overall a lovely story,I it had a good flow and written in a captivating way.
Depending on how they’re written, a closeted/confused person as a love interest can be hit or miss for me, but D.J. Jamison does an excellent job in Rapid Response. Sean’s journey is relatable, and his conflict rings true to his personality and character. Sean is a sweet guy with a big heart and is a people pleaser and mediator by nature. He hates conflict and the rift in his family caused by Daniel’s hostility puts him in the middle and weighs so heavily on his mind that eventually his time with Jace becomes a refuge from the real world, but also another burden because of Sean’s fear of what having a boyfriend will do to his already fractured family. This fear is magnified as Sean is given no reason to believe that his firefighter brethren will support him either.
Okay I can’t in good conscience recommend anyone read this book due to its numerous bad/problematic elements (and honestly there are too many to list).
I did think the barebones of the plot setup and central relationship worked, the family dynamics seemed not unrealistic, and I thought it was really accurate how all the first responders in this small town knew or knew of each other so you were basically tripping over acquaintances everywhere you went haha.
I am a fan of this series and was excited for this book! Firefighter Sean Connolly has his entire world rocked when he meets Jace Gillespie one night. Jace and his friend Lena are out having a drink when Sean bumps into Jace. A spilled drink leads to a very strange threesome.
Sean, who is straight, doesn’t understand why he is way more interested in Jace than the beautiful woman with them. After things become uncomfortable for Sean, he runs. Never expecting to see Jace again, he tries to forget him, forget that whole night. He can’t forget though, and he also sees Jace again.
These two are thrown together and just like the fires Sean fights, they are combustible. Sean is confused, but worse...he’s afraid. Afraid of how he feels, afraid of being found out. This really tore my heart up, love being something you feel you have to hide. Sean’s being pulled in so many directions and the only place we see the real him is when he’s with Jace.
I really loved the dynamics between these two men, we know neither really knows what they’re doing, but I love that they know it too. We get to see all the ups and downs, some beautiful and some incredibly ugly. While these men seem confused, one thing they know for sure is that they love each other.
It’s so nice to see a relationship where both parties work so hard not to hurt each other. They inevitably do get hurt, but even that is done in a way that they grow from. I’m really happy with how this story played out, I could feel how much love was between Jace and Sean. This was a really great addition to a really wonderful series.
Truthfully, I was a little worried when I started Rapid Response. This being the first book I've read in the Hearts and Health stress, I didn't know what to expect, but it certainly wasn't the awkward threesome that took place in the prologue. Manipulation is never sexy to me, and I worried that uncomfortable feeling I had during the prologue would color Jace and Sean's relationship for the remainder of the book. Happily, that wasn't the case, but in the event the sample includes the prologue or others are initially turned off, I feel it's worth mentioning in my review. In the end, Rapid Response was a sweet, spicy gay-for-you book that kept me invested cover to cover, even through the will they/ won't they angst.
The gay-for-you trope always run the risk of feeling disingenuous, but the author handled the topic well. I liked how honest Sean's conflicting emotions over pursuing a relationship with Jace felt. This wasn't quite a slow burn in the physical department, but the characters had time to build on their feelings for one another and I really liked sharing in their journey. The writing was solid, the dialogue fun and flirty, and the sexy scenes well done. If you enjoy this trope, I'd definitely recommend giving Rapid Response a try.

Without a doubt the best one for me in this series and some of the hottest writing that I've read from DJ Jamison.
Everything about this book worked for me, from the detail put into the way Jase introduced Sean to the joys of sexual activity with a man, to the slow awakening of Sean's desires and his acceptance of his own sexuality - even if he never was able to put a label on it, he knew he loved Jase.
The dynamic in the bedroom, in the power exchange and the "not quite" full on submissive nature Sean exhibited and Jase took the time to nurture worked.
The setting worked, the tensions worked, there was no unnecessary melodrama, no unneeded angst, the relationship development just provided enough of its own complications without the book having extras added.
Loved this one a lot, even if it did leave one little element unanswered for now. This whole series has, in the majority, been an enjoyable read from start to finish and I hope Davina does return to it in the future.

Firefighter Sean Gillespie thinks he’s supporting his newly out bisexual brother when he attends a drag night at a gay club. Only, his brother doesn’t show up. Still interested in the show, he’s cajoled into hanging out with Jace and his female bestie. They share beers and chat, Sean admitting to his confusing attraction to the performers. Jace thinks Sean is hot, but gets that he’s not gay, still, he lets his gal pal talk Sean into more drinks at Jace’s apartment. And once there she puts the moves on Sean–convincing him to let Jace pleasure him. It seems to go great, but Sean panics in the end, leaving Jace frustrated.
A couple months rolls by and Jace and Sean reconnect at the scene of an apartment fire. Sean carries a missing girl to safety, but is injured at the scene. Jace is the paramedic who treats him. The girl’s mother is overjoyed by the rescue, and her letter to the paper sparks a PR outreach that catalogues Jace and Sean on outings with the girl and her mother. The more time Jace and Sean spend together the more the attraction grows between them. Jace is just a little bit dominant and that stokes an unknown service kink for Sean.
Sean is struggling with his sexual identity–because he has homophobic crew mates in the firehouse, and his eldest brother has seemingly disowned their middle brother for coming out as bisexual. Still, he’s falling hard for Jace, and takes to spending more and more time with Jace, if only to escape the trouble he’s facing after he takes his eldest brother in off the street–his wife kicked him out for being an insufferable pig and a drunk.
Jace hasn’t had any relationships in a long time, and what’s happening with Sean is feeling like it could be a relationship, if only Sean would come out. Because he won’t well, they fight. And it’s a short bit of heartbreak. I liked the cast of characters here. Both Sean and Jace are decent guys, and they fall hard for one another. Jace knows how much crap Sean will get for coming out publicly, as he’s experienced it firsthand. He won’t push Sean to action, but he also can’t live a shadow-life of happy times behind his apartment door. It felt really realistic, and understandable. The climax, however has some definite heartbreak. Sean figures out what he needs to do, but the timing is complicated. And there’s some family drama and tragedy that he needs to work out. The grand gesture at the end is sweet, and leaves the door open for the next romance in the series. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for that one.
Rapid Response is a fun and compelling Gay for You romance by DJ Jamison. The eighth book in her Hearts and Health series, it can be read as a standalone.
When Sean comes home with Lena, he gets more than he bargained for with her roommate, Jase. I didn't like how Lena went about doing things, but I like the results. Sean's always been straight, but his feelings for Jace are something he can't ignore.
Sean and Jace are both interesting guys. Jace is an out and proud EMT, while Sean is a hot firefighter who's never even looked at a guy before.
I enjoy the way they meet up again, and the feeling of possibility that is sparks. As they get to know each other, they have some issues to deal with. Sean's struggling to figure out who he is and what he wants, as well as how to go about getting it. He's closeted and has no clue how to come out.
Of course, to me, the best part is the sexual dynamic between the two men. It's entertaining that Seam wants to be dominated. I enjoy this discovery of his to be fantastic.
Rapid Response is a great, riveting, GFY romance, that is sure to entertain.
Sean is straight and has never even had any inkling of attraction to a guy. That all changes when he sees Jace out at a bar with his friend Lena. They both want Sean, and they end up going back to Jace’s house. Although Lena was there, she was a non factor in Jace and Sean having a quick moment before Sean freaks out and bolts. A couple of months later, Sean and Jace come face to face again at work and find they are still attracted to the other.
This dealt with Jace coming to terms with wanting a relationship and giving up hookups and Sean coming to terms with his orientation and attraction to Jace. There was some angst built in while Sean battled the closet and Jace battled being a secret. In the end, though, the guys really were great together and were able to see that their love mattered. I loved Sean’s family (minus one) and I was glad to see Sean find happiness all around.
I enjoyed the story and most of the characters (I was not a fan of Lena and Danny). I wasn’t a fan of the opening encounter, but I’m glad I kept going with the book. I am definitely interested in going back and reading more of this series.

I really liked this book in the series which is extraordinary entertaining because we have a few (re)appearances of well-known characters from the former books. But if you worry you might get lost I can assure you this book is properly fine to read as standalone. For me, as a reader of not just the Hearts and Health series but also the Ashe Sentinel one I enjoyed the reappearance of Mac from Changing Focus in his function as a photographer. :)
Overall this book is a good combination of several parts and I'd say you can easily divide it into story arcs, especially because it's the longest book in the series with 92k words (yes, that much to read, I was impressed too tbh.)
I really liked the chemistry between Jace and Sean and how their love story evolved. The start was maybe a bit rocky, a bit bumpily especially because of the weird threesome with a friend of Jace, Lena, where I couldn't see any chemistry at all between her and Sean. Also, because of Jace being gay, there was no way these two were getting a nice heated evening, so this scene felt unfortunately a bit flat and Lena definitely came across as an intruder and was neither making sure the guys were okay with the threesome nor did she get the signals. Although I got the purpose the author had in mind I would have wished she would have "used" Lena as a character to help these guys come together on their own, not to be forced by her, with her present, to make out. In lots of ways this could have handled better but I acknowledge the try.
Overall the story is a pretty typical story of a guy being in the closet, almost in denial in the beginning but due to his outing of his brother, who we knew from Orderly Affair - which focusses on Ian and Callum - as being bisexual, it was definitely easier for Sean to get along with his upcoming sexual attraction to Jace.
Unfortunately and this is close connected to the events in Orderly Affair he's confronted with his homophobic and toxic actions and words by his other brother, Daniel, who's making it not just difficult for just for Ian and the rest of the family but for him too. That his story arc is mixed with a dramatic event, which is not such a surprise when you're at a certain part of the book, thus effects you deeply, is giving the story another notch of thrill - some might say it's a bit too much and a bit over the top, I think it was fitting and molded naturally into the story. It's like a closure of the previous events from the two last books, hence it was fitting.
Maybe a bit unneccessary in the length and in including a former friend from school of Sean is the arc around Heather and her daughter. It delivers the heroic newspaper report series part of the story pretty well, but with drama-ing it up it give it another level of thrill. I'm sure lots of people like this part, and while I adore Heather's daughter, I couldn't help myself and be a bit angry about Sean's reaction towards Heather, although it gave a good insight of his character and what drives him on. He's a gentle soul, a caring guy - Sean is the epitome of a piecemaker, maybe in parts a bit too much, and it shows in his actions towards Heather but also how he tries to repair the damage Daniel causes and is especially - but also shown on a different level - displayed in the way he reacts to Jace's treatments.
Jace is a really interesting person and he isn't cast in a good light in Operation Makeover, in fact it's a bit difficult to like him first because he comes across as smug, shallow and a bit arrogant. With Sean he shows a different side and he's in my eyes right to not be endlessly patient for Sean to come out although his flaws are shown there, but these are actually making him more appealing. :)
Both guys balance each other pretty well, the book is filled with lots of story arcs I'd say are pretty nice executed to give you an insight of the characters but it might be a long read for some readers and you definitely be better prepared if you know the previous events but for an entertaining read it's not mandatory to know these.
In way, and the afterwords says it - it feels like the closure of the series - at least for now. :) It's hinted - and also confirmed - that there's the possibility of two other characters to have their story, so I am pretty excited to see when we get their story (alone or together, who knows XD) but I'm also looking forward what DJ Jamison has up next for the reader.
This book is a total recommendation. 5 out of 5 stars. ;)
I am going to admit the first scene when Jace and Sean meet really threw me off. I liked the Sean was having a reaction to the Drag performers at the club and noticing Jace as attractive, But, why would a straight man go home with a gay man and a woman that was obviously trying to get him in bed. This threesome thing that should have been hot turned me off. Lena was more of a throwaway as neither man even noticed him. Lena just kinda ruined things for me and I saw no real reason for her in the book. She didn't make many appearances after that. But I was intrigued by Sean and his battling his attraction to Jake. I also have to admit there were times I loved both Jace and Sean and times I wanted to smack or shake them. ( I guess that's a good thing, invoking emotion in your readers lol). I did like both men and rooted for them all the way to the end, and admit I had my doubts how this would turn out. There are lots of other characters, I am not sure if they were in other books or not, like Mason, Casey and a few others. Maybe there should be a Hearts on Fire Spinoff? Hint Hint? There were so many hot firemen LOL and I would even like to see what becomes of Daniel, Sean's older brother. The story is interesting, a bit angsty with sean pushing and pulling on his feelings for Jace and his sexuality. I think this is a good book that tells just how hard it can be facing new feelings and a new life. I liked Jace and the bit of soft BDSM more just light Ds was sexy. I'm going to let you read and see how this was worked in. So sensual and sexy and yet kept both man quite macho. This is the 8th book in the series and I do hope not the last. There seem to be several openings and the authors note alludes to more later down the road I hope so and have a special request (Ruiz please) This book does stand alone perfectly. I have only read a couple in this series, all out fo order and all have been easy to read and follow. If you like paramedics, firefighters, cute little girls, Gay for you, light D's and some hot man-sex this is for you. I want the rest of this series!
This is a really wonderful OFY romance with a delicious dose of the required angst for this trope, but it’s also very moving and filled with deeper emotions. The story is written with D.J. Jamison’s typical sweet and light touch, and has a lot of humor and heartwarming moments in it. Although she doesn’t make it easy for Jace and Sean to find their HEA and there’s sadness and dark times for them to overcome, still it’s always done with a delicate touch and she never errs to the melodramatic side.
There were a couple of cringeworthy moments for our MC’s to endure, that I barely even dared to read, those are so not my cup of tea because I tend to empathize too much with the characters. I could have done without the threesome scene in the beginning, where Jace’s friend, Lena , especially rubbed me the wrong way, both during and after. I found her difficult to like and not at all a good friend to Jace in the aftermath of that particular debacle. Awkward beginnings aside, I really enjoyed Jace and Sean’s story.
I loved the surprising dynamic between Jace and Sean, so refreshing that it’s the built firefighter that longs to give up control. Sean is so giving and caring. I adored him for that. I also loved that he worked so hard to keep his family together and tried to (re-)build bridges for all those he loves. He doesn’t always get it right, however, and some of his decisions were like a train-wreck waiting to happen... the fall-out wasn’t pretty. Jace is every bit as much an intriguing character, longing for love, same as Sean, and discovering new truths about himself as well as their relationship develops.
For those who’ve read the other books in this series, reconnecting with some of the earlier characters will be great fun, but the book can be read as a standalone too.
I very much enjoyed this story. It had an intensity and emotional drive that I really liked.
This is another great entry in a series I really enjoy. Jace and Sean meet and have their first hook up during an awkward attempt at a threesome with Jace's female friend Lena. Sean thinks he's straight until he reacts more to Jace than he does to Lena. He panics and runs, hoping to put these scary feelings behind him. After all, he has a brother who has recently come out as bisexual, and his other brother is causing strife in their family over that fact. Sean wants to make everyone happy, so he tries not to make waves in the status quo. Unfortunately - or really, fortunately, since the story depends on it! - Sean is a firefighter and Jace is a paramedic, so they run into each other at a fire. The attraction is still there, and it only grows as the two are thrown together in a plan that has been hatched to improve the public's perception of first responders in their town. The men are soon very important to each other, but Sean isn't ready to come out to his family or his fellow firefighters. Jace tries to be patient, but how long can that last? I liked these men, and I loved the peace they found in each other when the world wasn't getting in the way. I did get frustrated with Sean, not because he wasn't ready to come out, but more because I felt like he kept coddling his bitter homophobic brother Daniel. I liked the rest of their family and friends, and I was glad they each had a good support system. There were some sexy times between Jace and Sean, as well as some lovely sweet moments that made me tear up. This series is so good, and I appreciate the great characters and engrossing storyline in each book. This was another excellent addition.
So ashamed to say that this is the first book in this series that I've read after being lucky enough to receive an ARC but I will absolutely be going back to the start and reading them all. This was such a good story with highly enjoyable characters and a plot line that I was quickly absorbed into. It's Sean's first ever attraction to a man and Jace keeps him wanting to come back again and again, even though he's not out and struggling with how his family and fire crew would take the news. I love that we get the story from both men's POV as it gives us a chance to connect with them both and understand each man with where they are coming from in regards to the new experiences they are going through. It is very easy to fall into the story and I was eager to know the outcome for their relationship and how the chips would land in regards to friends, family and the workplace for them both. There's even a little bit of play on dom/sub dynamics and I love how DJ has written it, making it work perfectly for the couple and exploration is something new to both of them that they can share in. There are some great secondary characters that give friendship and support as well as an adorable little girl that just tugs on your heart strings. The pacing works really well, sticking with the men in the important parts but also not scared to skip a couple of weeks when it helps move the story along. Definitely recommend and getting myself the back catalogue of this series to go and dive into! I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
I picked this one because it sounded like its a gay for you trope story, which is one of my favorites. However, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. I can’t actually put my finger at what stopped me from enjoying the story. Sean and Jace have somewhat disastrous first meeting, but things move forward from there. It’s slow development and focuses on both men, what they want and what they are struggling with. There is funny dating, meddling friends and coworkers, a little bit of suspense and sexy times.
Sean is trying to deal with his newfound interest in men and repercussions it will have on him, like his family life isn’t already complicated enough. Jace is already out, but he doesn’t have connections with a lot of people and they have been strained of late, so he is unhappy to find himself falling for man who is still in closet.
It should have been interesting but I didn’t overly care about either Jace or Sean. Neither of characters left an impression. Maybe it would have been different if I read other books in series, but they seem to focus on individual couples, so it should have worked as a standalone. Sadly, both men came off pretty bland and it was hard remaining interested in what happens to them.
The character issue, which is my main gripe, is probably subjective, so the story will be OK for some, it was just not for me.
I received copy of this book in exchange for review. The review is also posted on Gay Book Reviews
I’m going to admit up front that the way this story started, and Jace’s friend Lena and the role she played in that start had me wondering how things were going to go. I was not a fan of Lena at all, and frankly I was really glad she didn’t really play a role in the rest of the story. Thankfully, once I overlooked the inauspicious start, things did get much better from there.
You might be thinking, how can someone who is out and someone who is beyond closeted get “much better”, but I can put that down to the excellent chemistry Jace and Sean have together. Are there points where Sean’s closeted status became tiresome? Yes—I’ve yet to find a book with a closeted character where that was not the case. Did he do some inadvisable things that caused me frustration? Oh, hell yes. At times it felt like he was a bit clueless and didn’t really think about how his decisions would seem to Jace.
In the end though, it was Jace and Sean’s chemistry that made this book enjoyable for me. I felt like the story was a bit drawn out—something that aggravates me in any book—so for me, the fact that their connection overrode my irritations enough to put Rapid Response at 4 stars says a lot about how I enjoyed the characters and their relationship. This book is a good addition to this series, and it’s meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.
This book was intense. We knew Jace as the cocky, self-centered guy who was loved from afar in the last book, but he is do much more. His self-sured man was just a facade to cover his hurt from the past. Sean was a man looking for more, his past relationships with women having left his wanting. Only thing was he didn't know what he wanted. It never entered his mind it was a guy, til he met Jace. Their initial meeting was anything but a "meet cute". Lured into something he didn't really comprehend, left him confused, but satisfied. Jace was just in it for fun, a one time thing. They never intended for it to happen again, but they were still stuck in each other's minds. As the fates would have it, their jobs had them cross paths again. Having never been attracted to men before, Sean couldn't fathom what was happening to him. He was drawn to Jace like a moth to a flame. Jace was used to flings, but never used to wanting more, especially from a guy in the closet. As things developed and got hotter, feelings got in the way. Outside "friends" just made things worse. We read on as this roller coaster drew us in. Our emotions were front and center, wanting them to work things out, and frustrating us as only DJ can, with lots of turmoil along the way. Luckily for us, she kept us there, tempting us with nibbles here and there. The end result was happiness, which was always her intention.
3.5 stars I have enjoyed this series from the very beginning with its many wonderful characters and the chemistry between the couples. That said, I had a hard time getting behind this couple. Not that they don't have great chemistry, they do. My problem lay in a scene involving Lena. Now, maybe the intention was to paint Lena in a negative light, which it did for me, but it also turned me off of Jace. However, I did keep going, and the more I read, the more I warmed up to Jace. By the end, I was rooting for this couple, especially since I loved Sean from the beginning. What bothered me about this one may not bother others, and the story is full of the emotional ups and downs and relationship angst that Jamison does so well. Sean's struggles with his family and figuring out how to balance who he is with the person people see on the outside tugs at the heartstrings, while at the same time, I sympathized with Jace's feelings about a closeted relationship. At the end of the day, Sean and Jace do make a good addition to the series, and I love that past characters pop in and out throughout the books while each one still works as a standalone.
Once again DJ Jamison has brought another amazing story for this series. I’ve fallen hard for all of these guys. If you haven’t read the series yet I suggest you start with Heart Trouble and go down the wonderful rabbit hole.
Jace is an EMT. He’s out and proud. His past doesn’t effect him like it use to but it still there. He’s happy with who he is, happy with his life. There’s just one thing missing, someone to love.
Sean the hottie firefighter. He always thought he was straight but meeting a stranger in a bar changed his life. He’s trying to figure out how he can be who he truly wants to be. He doesn’t want to hide. He is a people pleaser and doesn’t want to let anyone down. But it’s time to live his life for him, and the one he wants to love.
Jace and Sean are two people who are looking for the same thing. Love. Happiness. Having someone to share the ups and downs with. They have a lot to overcome but they get there in the end. It’s was a beautiful brave heartwarming story and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Sean and Jace meet at a bar. Sean is invited to Jace’s place by Lena, where she instigates a threesome. When Sean and Jace get intimate, Sean freaks out and runs.
They meet again at a fire, Sean is a fireman and Jace is a paramedic. Circumstances keep pushing them together. Jace is still interested but Sean is leery of a relationship with another man. When he decides to take a chance with Jace he is adamant that their seeing each other is only in private. Jace is ok with that because he doesn’t see them going anywhere beyond convenient.
When Jace realized that Sean chooses to trust him he is elated and confused. They are still just friends aren’t they? When Sean gives all his trust to Jace it makes him feel free and very content. This wasn’t supposed to happen was it?
This story was a nice addition to the series. Some angst, family issues, and helpful (or not) friends, moved the story along. Its not my favorite in the series but I did enjoy it a lot.

I liked this GFY story a lot! Sean has never felt attracted to men before, but as soon as he meets Jace he's drawn to him. He thinks it's Jace's confidence that attracts him, as a friend, but when an impromptu threesome happens, Sean can't take Jace's touch out of his head. I loved that both characters are not picture perfect. Sean is certainly a people pleaser, so much so that he often lets life wash over him and avoids taking any decision or even necessary steps to avoid making waves. Jace is more decisive, likes to take charge, which he does in his relationship with Sean, too, but this leads to him sometimes being impatient in waiting for Sean to take a stance.
All in all the story was a really good one for me, and I must point out that even if it's book no. 8 in this series, it can't be read as a complete standalone. I haven't read any of the previous books, but even if we meet some characters from the past stories, this book is completely accessible without the previous knowledge.
This is book 8 in the Hearts and Health series and it didn't disappoint. The main characters of this story are Jace , a paramedic and Sean , a firefighter. Sean had always thought of himself as straight until he met Jace. A three way hook up with Jace and his friend Lena had him running, scared and confused. They danced around each other for quite a while, Jace reluctant to start anything with a closeted maybe bi man. Sean could no longer deny his feelings, even as they began to know each other, he remained firmly in the closet, scared to come out, with a homophobic brother and workmate. Hurt, betrayal, fear and angst from Sean caused Jace to end it all, until a tragic accident pulled them back together. I love this series and hope there will be more.
I’ve really enjoyed the Hearts & Health series in general, I think this is one of my favorites in the series though!
Jace & Sean have amazing chemistry right from the start. I love how they find their way to each other. I really wish Sean hadn’t felt so fearful but it was so very realistic and relatable with his struggles with work and family. I really enjoyed these characters individually and together. I also liked a lot of the secondary characters, seeing a few past favorites, and also some hints that could be future developments if the author wants!
This book definitely is a recommended read from me (you don’t have to have read the rest of the series to enjoy it, but I think you should anyway if you haven’t, it’s a great series!)
I really enjoyed this story about Sean, a hunky firefighter in his first relationship with another man, a confident but relationship-wary paramedic named Jace.
After a first encounter that doesn’t bode well, their mutual attraction is too strong to be denied for long and their desire for connection palpable. False starts, family problems and Sean's closeted status are roadblocks to this new and fragile relationship. Vowing to keep things simple and on the quiet, neither is prepared when it becomes obvious to both of them that their hearts are on the line and all bets are off.
DJ Jamison navigates this terrain with apparent ease, however, and delivers a compelling tale with all the 'feels' and plenty of heat, an occasional tear and a powerful urge to call 911. Highly recommended.
DJ Jamison's Rapid Response is the eighth book of the Hearts and Health series, but can be read as a standalone. It's a first time gay romance between a hot Firefighter Sean Connolly and sexy Psramedic Jace Gilespie. One in the closet, one an out and proud hookup king, the story entertains as it takes you through their steamy hookups and watch them figure out how to be together and come out. It's fun and sweet and sexy... a great read. The characters are great - likeable and worthy of a Happily Ever After.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
Loved Sean from Urgent Care and was so happy to see he’d gotten his own HEA with Jace, Ridley’s BFF and former crush from Operation makeover. This story was surprising to me in several ways, because I didn’t expect to fall to hard for these two. I LOVE how they managed to build a relationship and fall in love from the spark of one awkward encounter. I also love that Sean discovered a more vulnerable, submissive side. His exploration of his sexuality in the bedroom with Jace lit my screen on fire, it was so hot. And that culmination towards the story’s climax was so full of feels! I love the tie-in with the events of the last book, too. This is definitely one of my favorites of this series!
Sean and Jace. Two men we've met in previous books in the series and two men we've wanted stories for. To have their story together - amazing. Confused, in the closet Sean and playboy Jace fit together perfectly. Rescuing a young girl from a fire brings them together after a night they'd both rather forget. Family issues, misunderstandings and work situations keep these two in a hover pattern until they don't. DJ Jamison draws you in and doesn't let you go with this one. Old characters return, and new ones are met. Come and laugh, cry and fall in love with the men of Ashe once more. You won't be disappointed you did.
