This is the first book I’ve read by Mariah Dietz, but it certainly won’t be the last. The Weight of Rain is a beautifully written romance that is more than just a love story. It’s a story of self discovery, of being the best you possible. A story that will give you hope and by the end, make you a very happy reader.
When I started this book I wasn’t so sure what it was about. The blurb is fairly vague but several trusted friends recommended this author so I jumped in. I’m so happy I did. Lo is an artist. She’s a student. And she had one life chaining night with a guy and she can’t remember it all. She remembers so much about him, but not any important details. Like his name. She can’t stop thinking about him, can’t stop drawing him, but life goes on.
Then she finds him in the most unlikely way she could have imagined.
Lo and King. Lo is a character with a lot of heart. She’s passionate about the things and the people she loves. King is also passionate about the people and things he loves. Both have to fight to follow their dreams and find that balance between what and who they love.
I think my favorite part of this story was that it wasn’t all about King and Lo. There were so many secondary characters that completely stole my heart! I loved Mercedes so much, and I really think we need a Kash book. He was fantastic as well. So was Summer. And Allie. And the list goes on and on! When a book has this many wonderful characters, it’s always a great thing.
As I mentioned before, this is very much a romance, but that’s not all it is. I can’t tell you how many quotes I highlighted that had nothing to do with the romance aspect of the story. There were so many that stuck out to me, but this was my absolute favorite quote in the book.
The first half of this story completely sucked me in. I could not put it down once I started it. I stayed up way to late reading and it moved very fast. There were parts after the middle that seemed to drag a bit for me, but then it picked up again towards the end. I loved the way it ended, I thought it was a perfect way to end their story.
Overall, this is a new adult romance I would highly recommend. Dietz’s writing is stunning and Lo and King’s story is on you won’t want to miss out on!

The Weight of Rain is a standalone by Mariah Dietz. It is a beautifully written story and there were so many lines worth highlighting. It is a fantastic love story, but also has a lot of heart and a lot of story surrounding the side characters.
The story is told from Lo’s point of view. She is a senior in college, majoring in art. She is crazy talented, but doesn’t really see her talents as she has been told time and time again from her family art isn't a real career. So while it is her passion it also creates a lot of stress for her, as she is constantly trying to prove herself.
Being different doesn’t make you a freak; it makes you brave.
One night Lo decides to let loose and just have fun at party. That night she has an epic one night stand, but is unable to view the guys number the next day on her hand. She spends weeks searching for her mystery guy, but nobody has heard of him. Lo has given up her search when she takes a job as a nanny for Kashton Knight.
King, her epic one night stand, is Kash’s brother and also works for Kash. When Lo finally sees King again he isn’t welcoming her with open arms. He is kind of a jerk to her and she of courses reacts to him with the same negative behavior. Their relationship develops very slowly, but it made the connection that much more sincere.
I loved King, he seriously is completely swoon worthy. Even during his “jerk” time I still saw his motive and intentions. King was real, honest and direct. I loved how he didn’t hide his emotions or play games. Once he decided Lo was it for him, he wasn’t backing down. I love that while King was chasing his dreams he respected Lo, believed in her and wanted her to follow her dreams. This was priceless to me since Lo was always looking for validation that she wasn’t making a mistake.
We don’t always need someone to put things back together for us. Sometimes we just need someone to try to understand our pains and frustrations and validate that what we’re feeling is okay.
I truly enjoyed King and Lo’s story, but in the beginning I wanted the story to move faster. I know this is probably me being impatient, however, I just wanted more. I wanted them to connect sooner and even after connecting have more time together. This didn’t take away from my enjoying the story, it is still a fantastic read and I definitely recommend it!
Side note; Merecedes, Kash’s daughter, truly made this story for me. I loved this little girl so hard and I am begging Mariah to write a story for Kash! For serious, I need Kash’s book! <3

Before I even start this review I have to say how much I love this author. The His Series is one of my favorite series and I was so excited to read this book. So on to the review...
The Weight of Rain brings us the story of Lauren and King. There are so many pieces of this story that are slowly revealed over the course of the story so I am going to leave all that up to you to discover on your own.
What I can tell you is that Mariah Dietz delivers a romance that was packed with emotion and she gives you characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. With her books it isn’t just about the main characters. It’s about all the characters. You get to know them, you fall in love with them and when you get to the very last page you hope & pray that she’ll make this a series and give you more of all of them!
The Weight of Rain brings together two people that are at very different places in their lives. Both on the edge of getting something they both badly want, something that inconveniences this new attraction. But it isn’t just as simple love story. There are complications and misunderstandings, but still having to move together as a unit because of their surroundings.
I wanted to fast forward to the moments where these two would be able to finally admit the truth and rewind to experience it all over again.
When you pick up a book from this author be ready to experience a full story. It’s not all about the love story, it’s about all the details. These characters are the stars of the story – not just some steamy moments or the whole falling in love aspect of things. It’s the day to day lives of the characters, you just get pulled in completely. ***THREE AND A HALF STARS***
This wasn't too bad of a little story for it being a NA. I would have probably rated it four stars if Lo hadn't been so hot and cold, and come off so bitchy at times. I loved King though. Even when he was being an ass. He was perfection for me. This story drug on for quite a while too, and it took forever for these two to finally get together again after all their bickering through most of the book. All in all it kept me interested enough to finish, and I got my HEA. Not too shabby.

The Weight of Rain by Mariah Dietz
4 stars!!
Mariah Dietz is one of those authors that I “discovered” in the very beginning and I have read and devoured her books one by one. She is one of those authors that never fails to deliver and once again she has taken me on another emotional rollercoaster. While this one is not as emotional as her previous stories what this book does have is some great dialogue, great banter, BMX stunt riders, a really cute kid and some fantastic side characters that really made this book the complete package.
Lo was a quiet, studious woman. She had fought to be where she was and was determined to make it work. Having come from a family of ranchers she was expected to follow in the family footsteps, but Lo had an incredible talent and huge aspirations. She didn’t want to be a rancher; she wanted to be an artist. Her work was insanely amazing, but she was coy about it all, she couldn’t see just how good she was, her self-esteem and confidence were at an all-time low. Lo had such a huge heart though, but it had been trampled on by those that should have loved her, as you see her heart slowly start to beat again, you cannot help but champion her along. Her relationship with King’s niece was fantastic and these two really got under each-others skin, but in a good way…a much needed way.
Lo’s roommate drags her to a party, trying to get Lo to lighten up and enjoy herself rather than stay in her room painting or working. Lo meets a guy, she has had a few drinks, but she is in control and she sleeps with him, totally out of character. This guy spoke to her, called out to her, she couldn’t resist and it was such an alien feeling that she had to explore it. They exchanged numbers…he lost his phone and his number rubbed off her hand. After months of trying to find out the identity of the other fate has other ideas, their paths cross once again.
I’m not going to say any more as you need to read it for yourself, but after months of thinking the other didn’t care it was always going to be tricky. Mariah Dietz always brings these characters to life as if they were your friends and family, not only do you get a story but you get a life. Her books are more about emotional connections, thoughts and feelings rather than just the sex. She always manages to instil her characters into your heart and they take such a tight grip that you just don’t want to let them go.
King was adorable, he had his bad boy persona but underneath he was teddy bear. He too had never felt a connection like he had that night; he had a hard time believing that Lo never made contact again. His pride is wounded; his machismo dented, but once they set eyes on each other again, that night just comes back into sharp, vivid focus in all its technicolour glory. Of course we have the angst and the misunderstandings, no book would be complete without but when this man loves, he loves hard and his relationship with his niece was adorable and only makes you love him all the more.
I was totally immersed into the world of the Knight’s, BMXing is not a sport that is commonly featured and I thought that this was a great diversion away from the emotional side and really balanced this book out. As I said above the dialogue was fantastic and really brought these characters to life. Dialogue can either make or break a book and it definitely made this one. Once again, another fab read from Mariah Dietz and I’m hoping that some of the other characters in this book get their own story too, you never know, hopefully this won’t be the last I see of this family.

3.5 Lots of rain - Stars!
This was my first read by Mariah Dietz and it was a pretty decent book. I'm majorly slacking on my reviews so I'll give a quick rundown:
Things I liked:
- The supporting characters, Mercedes and Kash. Love them!
- The fact that he is a BMX rider, not many books about them.
- The overall storyline
Things I didn't like:
-Inconsistency with Lo's character
-Parent issues. Hate that in books
-Book was a little slow
-Her friendships that barely seemed like a friendship

Lauren is a remarkable artist, still going to school. She focuses on her art and her only moral support are her two best friends, Charleigh and Allie.
One night she meets a man that will mark her forever. Their one night will haunt her and she is desperate to find him. He seems like he just disappeared.
Fate however, is not done with them. When Lauren will meet King again, their lives will be forever entwined.
The book was excellent. The writing was great and the characters relatable. The author gives great focus on the heroine's talent and her strength is amazing to watch. The book had slow development and I liked how well rounded the characters were, but I did feel that it could have been a bit shorter. I wanted to see more scenes between our couple but I liked all the secondary characters too. Overall, I am satisfied with the way the story progressed but I felt that a few subplots could have been developed further. For example I wanted to know more about their first meeting and how they connected. It was a good book though, with an air of freshness that you do not find in romance these days. I recommend it.

Wow, just wow. I’m absolutely taken back by how beautiful this book was!
Lauren and King, what can I say? They’re absolutely unforgettable characters. They each have their own problems and flaws making them that much more amazing. They both struggle with their childhood, Lauren more so than King and doing so has caused her to doubt things and push people away and it’s so heartbreaking to read but for every heartbreaking turn there’s a hundred happy bits for them both and it just makes the experience of reading this book so much better.
The love they have for each other is fierce, even when Lauren doesn’t realise it, you (the reader) can. She’s as much in love with him as he is with her and it’s absolutely beautiful to see so much love between two characters. Even when the beginning doesn’t go down well for them, you can see they care. Even the secondary characters are loveable, especially Mercedes, what an adorable and stubborn girl she is, she made me laugh so hard at the shit she came out with.
There were times I was reading through this book and stopped in complete awe, the words spoken are truly touching, bullies are awful but Lauren’s words shine so brightly it touches deep inside your soul. The author wrote these parts perfectly and it made me smile at how inspiring it truly is. It’s a second chance romance and one of my favourites I’ve ever read.

I cannot understand why this isn’t rated higher. It’s a great story with characters that unlike so many crap characters written these days, had depth and complexity that doesn’t make the story exist only on om/ow drama. Really loved this. I’m not sure that I’ll read the next one because I’m not a fan of stories of best friends in love with each other for over 10 years, but still dated others but THIS story at least had none of that and was enjoyable. Even more so that neither person was interested in or did anything with anyone even when they thought they’d never see each other again. Why authors don’t write more heroes like this I don’t know, usually its only the heroine that keeps it in her pants during a separation for some stupid reason.

3 to 3.5 stars.
I received this ARC and had never read anything by this author. I read the blurb and it seemed mysterious, really promising, intriguing. I had no idea what this book was about and it was thrilling but also a little bit frightening to dive into the unknown.
Honestly, there were things that worked for me and others … not so well.
My main “complaint” would be the lack of transitions in and between some scenes. We went sometimes from one scene to another without transitions or with a character coming “out of the blue” and I found it unsettling. I thought I had missed something and had to work to make sense of what I read. Maybe this being an ARC had still to go through some proof reading and the edited version will be improved?
What I did not like either was King’s attitude. He pushed Lo away, accused her of stalking him and was a real jackass sometimes.
The first 75% felt a little “tentative” or chaotic. But the last 25% were much better. After the storm, it was like another story took place, the main characters found their grove, no more hesitations, it flew effortlessly.
Now, what’s this story about? If you try to guess based on the blurb, you may never guess right…
In a nutshell: Lo is studying Art restoration and Composite drawing (studies I did not even know existed) at college in Oregon, far from her native Montana and her father’s farm. One drunken night, she’ll sleep with a gorgeous guy and won’t be able to forget him. On the one hand, her memory is a little bit foggy at first as she was drunk (she can’t remember his name or where he lived) but on the other hand, she captured many details (his hands, his eyes, his scars) she is now drawing all the time. After months, she’ll find him but it won’t go as she had hoped. I won’t say more as I don’t want to spoil your fun.
What I did like, a lot was Lo’s personality. She is in her own world, lost in thoughts and sights, always recreating people she saw to draw them later.
She is reserved but still strong as she chose to follow her own path, going against her family’s wish.
She constantly doubts herself, her talent but still took a leap of faith to pursue her dream.
I also loved Mercedes, the 10 years old she is babysitting. Mercedes was full of attitude, condescending at times but also socially inept and deeply touching.
The side characters, parallel stories were also interesting and added layers to the main story.
What I would have liked to give it more stars: more transition and cohesion. I also think there is a goldmine in Lo’s past and family that could have been more emphasized to make us feel deeper emotions. It has the potential of drama and heartache but was barely evoked.
Now, I can be sometimes a tough reader and I’m sure others would give this story more stars so don’t let my review deter you from making your own opinion about this book. I also must add I’m no writer and I would never be able, even in my wildest dreams, to write a book so, the author has my deepest respect for the work she put in that story.
I received this ARC and had never read anything by this author. I read the blurb and it seemed mysterious, really promising, intriguing. I had no idea what this book was about and it was thrilling but also a little bit frightening to dive into the unknown.
Honestly, there were things that worked for me and others … not so well.
My main “complaint” would be the lack of transitions in and between some scenes. We went sometimes from one scene to another without transitions or with a character coming “out of the blue” and I found it unsettling. I thought I had missed something and had to work to make sense of what I read. Maybe this being an ARC had still to go through some proof reading and the edited version will be improved?
What I did not like either was King’s attitude. He pushed Lo away, accused her of stalking him and was a real jackass sometimes.
The first 75% felt a little “tentative” or chaotic. But the last 25% were much better. After the storm, it was like another story took place, the main characters found their grove, no more hesitations, it flew effortlessly.
Now, what’s this story about? If you try to guess based on the blurb, you may never guess right…
In a nutshell: Lo is studying Art restoration and Composite drawing (studies I did not even know existed) at college in Oregon, far from her native Montana and her father’s farm. One drunken night, she’ll sleep with a gorgeous guy and won’t be able to forget him. On the one hand, her memory is a little bit foggy at first as she was drunk (she can’t remember his name or where he lived) but on the other hand, she captured many details (his hands, his eyes, his scars) she is now drawing all the time. After months, she’ll find him but it won’t go as she had hoped. I won’t say more as I don’t want to spoil your fun.
What I did like, a lot was Lo’s personality. She is in her own world, lost in thoughts and sights, always recreating people she saw to draw them later.
She is reserved but still strong as she chose to follow her own path, going against her family’s wish.
She constantly doubts herself, her talent but still took a leap of faith to pursue her dream.
I also loved Mercedes, the 10 years old she is babysitting. Mercedes was full of attitude, condescending at times but also socially inept and deeply touching.
The side characters, parallel stories were also interesting and added layers to the main story.
What I would have liked to give it more stars: more transition and cohesion. I also think there is a goldmine in Lo’s past and family that could have been more emphasized to make us feel deeper emotions. It has the potential of drama and heartache but was barely evoked.
Now, I can be sometimes a tough reader and I’m sure others would give this story more stars so don’t let my review deter you from making your own opinion about this book. I also must add I’m no writer and I would never be able, even in my wildest dreams, to write a book so, the author has my deepest respect for the work she put in that story.

Synopsis:
Lauren (Lo) is an art student who comes from a broken family background. Her issues make it hard to connect but one night with a stranger makes her crave more...enough to try and find him after his number was wiped from her hand.
King is a BMX racer who lives with his widowed brother and his niece. He loves his family and can't forget the girl from that one night at a party but his phone broke and he no longer has her number.
Ok, I had many issues with this book that I feel the 3 stars were generous.
First, there are very few books where I don't like the h but this is one of them. Lo's character is inconsistent and confusing. She is amazing with Mercedes and so wise with how to deal with her issues, yet is an absolute train wreck in her relationships. King deserves a medal for dealing with her and her mood swings. I just didn't like her.
Another issue was the lack of transitions. For example, one minute they were in the kitchen and in the next paragraph, they were driving in a car without a transitional phrase. Something as simple as "Later that morning" would clear up that confusion.
Speaking of confusion, I'm brought to the third issue. There is a lack of dialogue identity in some places. It was unclear who was saying what and I had to go back and re-read in some places to clear up who was actually speaking within the quotes.
Fourth issue is the speed of the first half of the book. The first half just dragged on for me. Not enough was actually happening to keep my attention. I understand that this served as Character Development but I think it was a little too boring.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! Lo and King are fabulous, but Mercedes certainly stole my heart! I couldn't get enough of this wonderful story and didn't want it to end.....
I'm not sure why, but Jay McLean's Kick Push automatically comes to mind. So if you loved that, you really need to give The Weight of Rain a try. This is a book I wish I could read for the first time all over again.

Beautiful! Captivating! Inspiring!
When I say that I loved Lo & King...I mean it! I loved everything about these two! But man, Mercedes stole my heart from the first meeting! I could just look straight through every bit of her anger and see the kind of pain that is so unfair for a child that age to know that early in life. But the most magical thing was Lo with Mercedes! Who she became to her! This wasn't just a love story but a story of growth. Not just the growth of the hero and heroine, but the growth that exists because a single person that comes into a family and the effects of her care and love ripples along each member healing little pieces along the way.
One main reason I adored this book so much is because rather than being filled with stupid drama (which no judgment because at times I enjoy reading that, lol!!). It is instead filled with hardships and the scars left behind, stolen moments and the aftermath of losing the people that make those moments worthwhile, hard choices that should be simple to make but know that both options could alter your life in unimaginable ways, learning what the most important things in life are to you and the most valuable lesson being that family isn't always what you are born with but instead who you choose to make it! Any of you who have read this and any who might read it after me might not feel the same way about this book and that is okay.
This is a complete standalone, but if you enjoy this world...know that The Effects of Falling is book 2 in the same world just a different couple. I'm headed off to read that one now!

Lauren (Lo) Crosby is left haunted by a stranger’s touch and their time together. Several weeks later after she met him, she cannot get him out of her head. His presence remains with her. While she cannot remember his name or details to find him, she remembers their moment. And how she wants nothing more than to experience a moment like that all over again. It was passionate. They connected on a level she never thought possible. He saw parts of her that she’s never shown anyone. In every way. But what happens when she comes face to face with this stranger?

I absolutely cannot say his name in this review, or that may ruin everything. The experience of reading this book as everything unravels is thrilling. You find out pretty soon who this guy is but when you do, things are put into perspective. You realize that fate never gets it wrong. That love finds a way through through the impossible at all times. Their journey is not easy, but so worth it.

There are some major FEELS in this book. Lauren is a very talented artist. Determined to prove her family wrong about her major and career choice, she works non stop at perfecting her talent in school and beyond. She has dreams and aspirations. But even with that, she sometimes doubt herself. She’s never had someone admire her talent and truly care about her. Until him. He changes things. As she wants to fall into the background, he pulls her out to shine on a pedestal. One she’s not so sure she deserves. Yet he believes so strongly that she belongs there. He SEES her. And everything she is. He sees and loves her beyond the surface.

The writing is flawless. I was easily captivated not only by the writing, but by execution of the story. The author has a natural talent of weaving together a beautiful story with flawed and compassionate characters. They are also strong, and very witty. There is such a realness factor to them. You are easily immersed into their world and everything within. And you don’t want to leave. The words are almost lyrical in nature. I loved the flow of this story. Once you start you become lost in the beauty of the writing and all it encompasses and the meaning it adds to the story. To put simply, the writing is brilliant.

What happens when you are determined not to love, but the heart doesn’t listen? You love harder. You feel the inner struggle for both of them. Wanting to love, but not exactly sure how. But the thing about the heart is that it loves deeply. Relentlessly. Without regard. For love always ends up where it belongs. The guy in this story WILL steal your heart. He loves with a love so deep and overwhelming. His love for Lauren transcends. He loves her beyond her insecurities and her doubts. And Lauren loves him as fiercely. They both love with conviction. Whole heartedly. Their love simply knows no end. There is no insta anything here. While their connection is instant, there is a slow build to trusting and loving. Lauren and her guy are no strangers to love and the disappointment it can bring.

I cannot stress enough the writing in this story and how it sets this book apart from others. This book is likely to stay with me for a long time to come.

I really like the cover and the title of this book; I think it was one of the reasons why I started reading The Weight of Rain by Mariah Dietz even though I hadn’t read the synopsis. Now after finishing the book I wasn’t disappointed that I went in blind.
I like the author’s writing style it was engaging and descriptive but not overly so. I appreciated Lauren’s (Lo) love for her art. I could feel the emotions of the characters and I like that. The storyline was also emotional at times and there was drama and angst but again not overly done.

“Something about you just buried itself inside me”
I really liked Lo and I knew I would once I discovered she was creative and a nanny. She is selfless, had a big heart and loved the rain. King may have seemed like a bad boy at first, but he was far from it. Loved the relationship between Lo and King, it was slow building and wasn’t an easy one at times. Both had flaws and there were a few misunderstandings and communication issues. But both were passionate about the things they love, the things they wanted and those closest to them.

This book has many secondary characters such Kash, Summer, Mercedes, Charleigh and Allie that I adored. The author immersed these characters into the story perfectly without taking the focus away from Lo and King. I would be interested to see if some of them will be getting their own book. My vote would be for Kash as I would love to read more about him as I think he has a story to tell.
The Weight of Rain is a beautifully written, heartwarming, and romantic story, one that pulled me in from the start and had an array of characters that I would love to have as friends. If I were to say anything negative it would be that some parts of the storyline felt a little slow but that being said it didn’t spoil my enjoyment and love for this book. The Weight of Rain was the first book I have read by Mariah Dietz and it won’t be that last. I will be adding her previous books to my TBR today.

3 Stars! A 22 year old Art student meets a 27 year old BMX competitor. Lo is a confident young artist or so she portrays. She is far from confident, living all her life on a farm with only her father and her brother. Her mother left them when she was only 2 months old. She goes against her family’s wishes and enrolls in college to become an artist. She is focused on school, work, until one night she goes to a party, gets drunk meets and hooks up with a guy she can’t seem to forget. She tries for months to find him with no avail. She had given up on ever finding him and then fate, as always plays cupid.It was a cute story, but the down side of this book is that it has too many characters so it makes it more difficult to connect with hero/heroine IMO it takes away from their story.It was a light romance, not too sexy and light on the steam. Hoping she brings more heat with Kash.

This was my first book by Mariah Dietz, and I really liked it. I enjoyed her writing that included an interesting cast of characters.
I really loved Lo. It was so interesting to read about seeing people and experiences through an artist's eyes. She was so perceptive and picked up little nuances and details about someone's feelings and behaviors and saw things with so much color. But as much as I liked her, I didn't understand her choices sometimes, like letting her roommate walk all over her. Basically forcing Lo out of the apartment most nights, and then making her take the nanny job. And King - well let's just say I loved his character! I wish we had more of his pov other than the epilogue. Lo & King's chemistry was incredible and you could feel their attraction towards each other.
If you're looking for a sweet, emotional and well-written story, be sure to check this one out.

Throughout the book you get to understand Lauren or Lo as she is called. She stays to herself and watches everyone. Lauren is an excellent artist and sketches everyone she meets.
I really enjoyed the premise of the story and how much she opened up and starting loving herself. King really is always there for her but sometimes she just doesn't see it. Sometimes their fights were frustrating and too often. She seemed to picks fights for no reason. Lo just needed to let someone help her for once.
Lo's relationship with Mercedes was awesome! The writing of romance was real and loved how Mariah captured it.

A was grateful enough to received this book a little early, and again Mariah don’t disappoint me. This book is one full of emotions that keep you in the right corner. The author really know how to bring a good story, is well written and the characters seems developed. The book was perfectly paced and this are the books that are in your heart forever. The Weight of Rain is the perfect story for your self-healing and because teach you to worth yourself better. I recommend this book 100% because is worth it. So I would wait for more of this spectacular author.

This book is my first read by Mariah Dietz and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I will most definitely be purchasing her other titles.
The weight of rain drew me in from the second I saw the cover.
It's a coming of age love story but it's so much more than that, The weight of rain has lots of complex relationships and emotions.
The book is about Lauren Crosby (Lo).
Lo is an art student from a small farm town in Montana, where everyone knows everything about everyone, she's living in the big city and trying to find her way, Lo hasn't always had the most positive family life and has built huge walls around herself to stay protected from any hurt people can inflict on her, she has close friends Allie and Charleigh but really keeps to herself, she shares a studio apartment with another girl Kenzie buy they don't particularly have a great relationship
During the summer Lo attends a party and ends up meeting a guy who she connects with on a deeper level, they exchange numbers and it looks like a mutual interest but after an incident with the number Lo is left pining for her mystery man and finally accepts after attempting to find him that it's just not meant to be,
Lo starts suffering from Artists block and is only able to draw her dream man, life goes along without any real excitement until one day a job presents itself to Lo as a nanny to a 10yr old girl named Mercedes.
Mercedes is a tough cookie, she has so much attitude and has experienced way more lose and upheaval then any 10 year old should experience, she is a real challenge for LO but eventually they both crack through the others exterior and become so much more to each other than either expected,
A surprise reunion with mystery man King really throws a kink in the works when LO least expects it and causes more confusion for LO as she tries to work out her feelings for King and his feelings for her.
Lo starts to realize that she has to start letting people in and that it's ok to let people help and that she doesn't have to be so fiercely independent, as Lo grows as an artist and as a person we really begin to see what a great future her and King can have.
This book is very heartfelt and well written it takes you on a journey of love, acceptance, becoming part of a controversial and out of the normal family. It' shows friendships forming and even touched on bullying, it proves that the saying blood is thicker than water is not always the case and that you can choose who you make your family.
I really feel Mariah did a great job with Lo and Kings love story, it showed real growth, I also loved Lo and Mercedes relationship and loved how Mercedes could be the one giving LO mature advice.
I really loved this book and would highly recommend it,

Lo is an art student from a small farm town in Montana, where everyone knows everything about everyone, she's living in the big city and trying to find her way, Lo hasn't always had the most positive family life and has built huge walls around herself to stay protected from any hurt people can inflict on her, she has close friends Allie and Charleigh but really keeps to herself, she shares a studio apartment with another girl Kenzie buy they don't particularly have a great relationship
During the summer Lo attends a party and ends up meeting a guy who she connects with on a deeper level, they exchange numbers and it looks like a mutual interest but after an incident with the number Lo is left pining for her mystery man and finally accepts after attempting to find him that it's just not meant to be,
Lo starts suffering from Artists block and is only able to draw her dream man, life goes along without any real excitement until one day a job presents itself to Lo as a nanny to a 10yr old girl named Mercedes.
Mercedes is a tough cookie, she has so much attitude and has experienced way more lose and upheaval then any 10 year old should experience, she is a real challenge for LO but eventually they both crack through the others exterior and become so much more to each other than either expected,
A surprise reunion with mystery man King really throws a kink in the works when LO least expects it and causes more confusion for LO as she tries to work out her feelings for King and his feelings for her.
Lo starts to realize that she has to start letting people in and that it's ok to let people help and that she doesn't have to be so fiercely independent, as Lo grows as an artist and as a person we really begin to see what a great future her and King can have.
This book is very heartfelt and well written it takes you on a journey of love, acceptance, becoming part of a controversial and out of the normal family. It' shows friendships forming and even touched on bullying, it proves that the saying blood is thicker than water is not always the case and that you can choose who you make your family.
I really feel Mariah did a great job with Lo and Kings love story, it showed real growth, I also loved Lo and Mercedes relationship and loved how Mercedes could be the one giving LO mature advice.
I really loved this book and would highly recommend it,

I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.
I can honestly tell you this is one of my favorite books I've read this year. I'm sure some people will find issue with the story as someone always does. But for me, I really loved these characters. The two main characters the book focuses on are Lauren (Lo) and King. They meet by chance and instant magnetism. She's drawn by him but isn't over the top like most people are which intrigues him.
Lauren has no idea who King or his family is. She's pretty clueless. She tries to figure out who King is after the phone number she had for him is unreadable and no one can tell her who her mystery man is. So fast forward a few months and they meet again. This time it's not so pleasant. Assumptions are made and King is a total jerk.
This is the best part of the story for me. They dance around each other. They fight like cats and dog but you can almost "feel" their attraction growing. It's awesome to read how he reacts to her and his protectiveness toward Lauren when he doesn't even realize what he's doing.
I haven't said much about what these two do as I'd like to leave some mystery for you. The synopsis shares with you that Lauren is an artist. Her sketches/drawings seem to share with the world how she feels and sees those she's drawn. Her character is an amazing artist and King has no idea she's as talented until someone makes him actually look at her work. Being the focus of her current drawing obsession King recognizes himself in many of her drawings. Her passion encourages him. Can you tell I think these two are a perfect match?
I was sucked into this book immediately and read it in less than 24 hours. I couldn't put it down...but of course family and sleep kinda had to nudge it's way in there so breaks were necessary. If you've not read anything by Dietz before you're missing out. Her words seem to float off the page and makes the movie playing in your head as you read seem to be real to life. This story is no different. Mariah Dietz definitely has the ability to show you her characters as well as tell you about them.
I highly recommend this story.

In The Weight of Rain, Mariah addressed topics of acceptance, confidence, bravery, and approval. The story focused mostly on Lauren's character while addressing these issues. However, King and the minor characters played an intricate part in her journey to succeed in life. I wasn't excited about the execution of this book due to the wordiness and slow delivery. So I can't offer my recommendations. I will leave that up to others to decide. I myself prefer less words and more emotions from my characters. The story didn't transition well between scenes. Some scenes felt unfinished and ended abruptly. The story began without properly defining the plot. The premise gave limited indication as to what type of story this was.The story lacked the necessary details of this night in order for me to better understand this so called connection that these two have been fighting against. The writing style was too wordy with mundane details in areas that didn't add to the story. Some areas were underdeveloped and required more details yet were limited.
King's character acted perturbed and abrasive towards Lauren. His hatred towards her was confusing. King's character seemed stiff and uptight to be bothered with Lauren. King's character was a famous BMX racer which seemed irrelevant to the story.
Lauren met a guy one night whom she had feelings for, at least she thought she did since she claimed to be drunk, yet clearly remembered intricate details about his body. For three months, no contact was made. Lauren moved on thinking he did the same. The problem with this plot was how this was organized. I had to piece this information together by reading several chapters. I usually am well aware of what I'm reading within the first chapter. Second problem was when these main characters finally meet the guy ignored her without explaining why. Third problem was that the minor characters took away from the main characters story. Fourth problem each chapter began with a character speaking yet the character wasn't identified until a few sentences in.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review before release... I know, I know.. I'm a little late :) Even though I am late, I will say that I really liked this book!
When I first started the story, it went a little slow for me but picked up within a couple of chapters in. Lauren (Lo)comes off as such a closed off person that it surprised me about why she is looking for the mystery guy that's talked about in the beginning of the story. (Sorry I don't want to spoil anything :)) Once she takes the new job she is offered, she really starts to become a little more open and feisty!
King definitely has a bad boy persona with having his background in BMX biking and once he comes face to face with Lauren, he acts like one. I really liked King though b/c even though he came off that way, he was a really genuine sweet guy (with a tough shell). I was surprised to find out that he was Lauren's mystery man b/c I figured it would be a story that put her and Kash together, who is Kings brother!
Mariah did an awesome job with this story! It has plenty of feelings involved, that's for sure! I also like that she put almost like a hidden message in there about bullying. The issues that Mercedes deals with at school and then once you find out more about Lauren's past, its obvious why!
Great job and I really hope to see a book with Kash & Summer, or even a novella for Lauren and King b/c I could go for some more of them :)

This was my first read by the author Mariah Dietz. From reading the synopsis this sounded like the kind of book I would enjoy.
The story is about Lo and King. They first meet at a party and they sleep together however the next day Lo can't really remember much including the guy she slept with. Lo is an art student and in her pictures she draws hands of King (unconsciously). However when Lo and King finally meet again he is Stand offish and tries to push Lo away. The story really explores the growth of their relationship and the emotions involved.
For me at times the story felt a little disjointed it seemed to jump from one scene to the next quickly. I have to say I loved Mercedes characters she seemed liked a very wise and beyond her years for a 10 year old. Lo's characters was good also I liked how she slowly opened up. King's character blow hot and cold for me for the first 70% but I really did like the last 25% of the story.
Overall a likable read wit lots of emotion and feelings.

November 11, 2015DNF @ 66%. I tried, I really did. I just couldn't keep going. They were just about to go on their first date, and I was just so bored. At this point I just really didn't care how things worked out for them. We had the h who I thought was just a boring girl that tried to please everyone but struggled with her choice to be an artist, the H was moody jerk a lot of the time but otherwise boring, the side characters seemed ok...but again just meh, and the "relationship" between our h and H of having a ONS then loosing touch and reconnecting 3 months later to hate each other for another 3 months before things started to move into the romantic category (if you can call it that with a few kisses and the first date being at 66%). I just wasn't feeling it...sorry.

Oh wow. This was such a beautiful story! I loved every single character aside from Lo's mom and brother. I coulda punched them both. Although I loved the romantic aspect between King and Lo, it wasn't even my favorite part. I loved watching her finally become herself. I loved that she found happiness. I loved her with Mercedes. The last few chapters were amazing and the epilogue, finally hearing King talk about her. It was beautiful to read how he felt about her and the things he saw in her that you, as the reader, don't see the entire book. Lo truly is amazing.

Wow. I was lucky enough to read an ARC of this book and wow I'm so glad I did. I love the characters.... I think I may love this more than the His series by the same author. Mariah Dietz really has a gift and I can't wait to read more.
